I had the fish and chips yesterday, hard to say if the fish was in breadcrumbs, batter or badly freezer burned. It was definitely cooked in lukewarm oil so was soggy, grease soaked and heavy. When I complained I was told it had to be cooked that way (badly?‍♀️) otherwise it had to go in the oven.Went back in today just to let them know how uncomfortable and unpleasant I’ve felt since that meal.I would suggest that if the kitchen can’t cook it safely - take it off the menu.Really is such a shame as we quite often ate there and frequently recommended it to tourists.

Visited the cafe today and ordered the cod chips and peas. All items of the frozen veriety and served on a slate. How on earth are you supposed to eat frozen garden peas from a slate?. The fish was overcooked from frozen, chips in the usual basket (again frozen) and peas in a little bucket. For the price I should have gone down to the sea front and sat on a bench with a takeaway. Won't patronise this place again.

One of the worst roast dinners ever! Everything was warm once gravy added. Roast potatoes cold - yuk. Vegetables were under cooked. Sprouts were ok..but cauliflower was sooo hard. The beef may have been roasted once..but was definitely braised when served!! Chicken bits rather than slices..why? The Yorkshire puddings needed pulling apart, not cutting. This was the second time we gave this place a try, last time was 2019...and we resolved then never to try again!! I'd rather pay a bit more than £8.50 and have quality, rather than quantity...I do however take my hat of to this place for all they did during the pandemic.

We tried to get a Sunday Lunch, but alas everywhere we tried was booked, so we walked along the front and noticed this cafe down a side street. Boy are we glad we did! The gentleman who greeted us was absolutely charming and polite and showed us to a table. Two of us had fish and chips and one of us had the chicken curry, rice and chips (which was on offer that day at 5.00). The fish was the tastiest I have EVER had, the batter (Tempura) was so light and grease-free; served with chips and a side salad. The only downside, it was served on slate and I'd prefer a plate!!!The curry was a generous serving of each component. The gentleman serving us was lovely. He couldn't do enough for us and even asked if the food was to our satisfaction (which seems a rare thing to get lately). It pains me to have to review this cafe as I'd rather have kept it a secret!!!Highly recommended and cannot wait to go again.

I tried this place multiple times while I lived in Aberystwyth, it was always bad. Regardless of whether it was breakfast or dinner options. Food is low quality, but that isn't really reflected in the price you pay and you can tell it's just not made with any love or any care. There are so many independent cafes in Aber that clearly care about what they do. Go there, this place just wants your money.

Place is clean enough, staff seem decent. My wife and daughter ordered the mega breakfast for brunch. The food was good enough apparently but it was served in a frying pan which they found a pain to eat from. I ordered the fish & chips - total joke. The fish fillet looked like a bread crumb fillet that you get frozen in a packet of 4 from the supermarket. Smallest I've ever had to pay for in a cafe/restaurant. It was also way over cooked and was rock hard at one end. I saw little point in complaining as if someone things that is good enough to serve, they are not going to be that interested in complaints. The toilets are outside, which was a bit chilly in January, no heating that I could see. Didn't bother using the place again. Cheap enough for a breakfast.

Our usual hangover breakfast spot was completely full, so as a group of six we found what we thought was the next best thing. We waited at least half an hour before all of us had ordered as the girl behind the till was ridiculously slow. She clearly found every thing a chore and almost seemed stoned the way she responded. After then waiting at least another half an hour for our food (all cooked breakfasts) to arrive in stages, it was clear something wasn't right. The sausages weren't entirely cooked, eggs still gooey, fried bread and toast was only half done, and the mushrooms were their own dilemma, some burnt and cold and some not even cooked and cold. If I hadn't had to pay before I received my food I don't think I would have. The ONE waiter was clearly stressed and run off his feet so instead of kicking up a fuss we just left, still hungry. It could really be a nice place but the staff and clearly the chef need a kick up the backside.

Despite the staff taking the table numbers when you go to order, there was still the risk of them giving your food to someone else. When ordering lasagne you expect to find some pasta, however it was served in a pan smothered in stringy cheese melted into one big mush unrecognizable with no sign of any pasta and a bit of dried out salad on the side. Desperate for something to eat, I headed towards the 'Home Cafe & Restaurant' in Aberystwyth. I had previously been here for their delicious all day breakfast, despite it being served in a skillet. The restaurant was relatively empty, but then again it was a Tuesday out of term afternoon. However, it did fill up as tome went by. The menu is not excessive but does have plenty of choice, with the breakfast clearly being their 'flagship'. I browsed the 'Mains' selection that included mainly burgers and grills, as well as the usual sandwiches and paninis. There was no line at the counter so I ordered a beef burger with cheese, pineapple, onion rings and chips with a cappuccino. The cappuccino arrived promptly on a nice plate with a little bowl of sweets. Yum yum. As far as cafe standard cappuccinos go, it was quite good. The food arrived very quickly after with the burger on a chopping board with a nice fresh salad and the chips and onion rings in small baskets. Whilst not a fan of food being presented in 'alternative' ways, this vaguely worked. It was disappointing that there was no vinegar on the table but it was nice to see Heinz and HP sauces. Ok the food was not prime quality but for the price of £7.95 it wasn't too bad. I would imagine that it is mostly cash and carry food, however it doesn't try and pretend to be anything that it is not. Burger was cooked well and the chips and onion rings drained of all fat. So all in all, not bad. Whilst it is a mile off a michelin star, it isn't half bad for a town cafe. Nice, friendly and a friend of the wallet. The food is not of the best quality but it is cooked and presented will love and a smile. By far not the best place in Aberystwyth but by far not the worst, and thats ok.

A very good choice. The coffee is excellent and the complimentary jelly beans a nice touch. Would have dined here as the food looked amazing, but unfortunately two of our party had other ideas.

If I had seen the toilets before we had ordered and paid, then I wouldnt have had the misfortune of writing this review as we simply wouldn't have stayed. I don't know if it was to save on the washing up, but the dreadful breakfast was served in the frying pan. Yep folks you've read it correctly, in the blinking frying pan and on top of what was similar to a wooden cheese board. With a burnt half of tomato on the aforementioned cheesy thing, and a cold hash brown. Diabolically dreadful on so many levels.

I visited this cafe last week by myself as i was on a break from work and needed somthing small to eat and fast. I couldnt decide what i wanted because the menu had so much to choose from the lovely looking girl behind the counter helped me decide what to have it was a jacket potatoe with cheese and beans and im so glad i went for it because it was really yummy. While i was waiting the lady brought me over a glass of water as i didnt want a drink thought that was very thoughtful of her. Really did feel like home its a must visit not only for the Delicious food but for the staff Ffion i think her name was she is a asset to this cafe.

Won't be returning to this cafe till either management or waiting staff or overhauled. The waitresses studiously ignored us the whole time we were waiting to be served..or acknowledged at all. Two staff were front of house, one on the counter, ignoring me for several minutes minute while faffing about with the coffee machine. One half heartedly plodding around trying to look busy, caked in so much fake tan and bronzer she looked like an Oscar statue. Neither spoke, smiled or acknowledged us once. Then it became clear all food is now also served on silly planks of wood or frying pans, with gimmicky miniature stainless steel buckets that hold about 10 chips or 25 baked beans. That nonsense belongs in over priced, pretentious city gastro pubs. We left hungry and very annoyed, went to spend our money on a generous breakfast in a cafe that knows about customer service.

Sophies was full - again, so had to find somewhere else for breakfast. we were a bit dubious as it was empty but put that down to the location and very bad weather. Ordered Mega breakfasts - how can it be described as Mega - 1 x sausage, 1 rasher of bacon, 1 x has brown - what would a normal breakfast have been. Then it happened the food arrived and it was one of those pretentious places that serves food on anything but a clean, white plate. Served on slates, minging chopping boards and frying pans. Most of it was luke warm - they probably spent too long trying to make it look good! When will these places learn - good food does not need pretentious crap like this. Find a chef that can cook a hot breakfast, serve quickly and on simple white crockery. Another Aberystwyth place to avoid.

Popped in today for lunch with my wife and grandchildren, after a recommendation. First impression was that it was cold inside so sat next to, what appeared to be the only heat source; a cal our gas heater with just one of the tree bars burning! Moved to a booth that we thought might be a little warmer. I'm not a stout chap but found it a bit of a tight fit with immovable table and benches. Ordered food and popped out the the toilet. Crickey, absolutely disgusting. Urinals taped off as 'out of order'. The only toilet was filthy. Wet seat, that wouldn't stay up. Dirty bowl, toilet roll on the floor, no hot water, hand dryer not working. If we hadn't ordered I have left. Ladies toilet was just as bad, with no toilet paper. Surprisingly enough the food was generally good. I had curry with half rice and half chips, my wife had a burger, kids had food from children's menu. We all enjoyed the food and the coffee was particularly good. Scores on the doors was 4, so was expecting the facilities to be better. Shan't bother going in there again until I've checked the toilets and the weather warms up a bit. We visited in mid February.

Stand in front of the Royal Pier at Aberystwyth, look straight and it is the Pier Street. Walk a few steps, say 30, and you reach a place called ‘Home’. It is a great Restaurant where you can have Breakfast any time of the day. You cannot miss it as there is a display board on the foot path announcing its speciality. And, the restaurant has been named ‘Home’ rightly, because you get home made food in homely environment. It is a moderately large place with good ambience. No, it is not a place for Breakfast only; you have other choices of food too; say Chicken Burger, Staffed Potatoes, hot drinks, cold drinks … And all are comparatively cheap. Nice place. Nice food. Nice people. I recommend everyone visiting Aberystwyth to make a visit to this place at least once – for tea or coffee, breakfast or snacks, lunch or dinner and above all for Breakfast all day !

Came here as we like to try new places when they come down to visit, we sat down and had a table by the door as it was very busy which was a good sign. We sat down and decided what we wanted then walked up to the counter and ordered the food and drinks, I ordered tea and assumed it would have come in a teapot but came in a mug, I kindly asked if I could have a more ladylike cup for my grandmother, the waiter which i assume was the manager didn't understand and while I explained why he chucked the tea into the cup and it over flowed onto the tray and he walked away. It left me , my mother and the lady behind speechless, and that said it all.

Visited this cafe today for lunch. When we arrived it was busy although there were 3 empty tables. The tables still had the cups and plates left on it from previous customers. I ended up clearing the table myself so as we could sit down as so did another lady that came infront of us. They had a good selection of both hot and cold meals that you ordered and paid for at the counter. After ordering the drinks and meals I sat back down but a few minutes later a yell came up for "2 teas!" I then realised I had to go and fetch them myself! A short while later a lad came wandering around with a cheese and pinapple toasty. He asked around a few tables before finding the rightfull owner. This should not happen in my view as we have to give them our table numbers! Our meals turned up fairly quickly but we had to ask the waitress for some cutlery as there wasn't any on the table. She huffed and walked off like we asked her for something inconvienient!!! The food was hot and tasty. The cooked breakfast comes served in a frying pan. Loved that idea. I have mixed feelings about this place. The food was lovely but the service poor. When serving the food just grab some knives and forks aswell and get some staff who aren't grumpy and have been trained with waitressing knowledge.

We were drawn by how posh it looked, menu looked extensive, we just went for a panini, it was quick, drinks were quick although I had a milkshake and it wasn't cold, sort of room temperature. The panini was quite small and came only with a salad garnish, also was served on a piece of slate which annoys me but that's a personal thing. The cheese was melted but it was quite cold which was weird. The toilet is outside too and looked like an after thought, they were cold and shabby. Nice staff though, nice cafe, coffee was good but for £13 for two of us, I'd have gotten more for my money in a major chain coffee shop which is a shame.

We visited the home cafe on a business meeting focusing on customer service skills and restaurant presentation, including quality of food. We were pleasantly surprised as were greeted by a pretty young waitress, im assuming is the manager or owner who seemed very professional but friendly at the same time, managing a busy time independently as she was also helping a trainee aswel. She talked us through the buffet and also the menus. Our food came hot and presented lovely. We were asked half way through our meal if everything was ok. Will defiantly return lovely service and food.

The waiter service was dire. Two main meals were put on the table with only one set of cutlery available. We asked the waiter for vinegar to accompany the chips and we were waiting for about five minutes before it arrived. Fish, chips and peas was attractively served but the garden peas appeared not to have been cooked. The fish tasted great and the other meal we had, mushroom omelette and chips was fine. The toilet facilities were outside and poorly maintained.

During a day walking round Aber we decided to grab a snack. Having seen loads of people chomping on fish and chips we looked for a simple cafe to sit down and eat. Right in front of us was Home Cafe.....clean looking and reasonably priced.Having ordered from very pleasant staff we took our seats and waited. Our coffees came with little chocolate treats on the side, nice touch. When the fish and chips came they were on a slate platter with a bowl of chips and a little bucket of fresh garden peas. A very attractive dish indeed. Cutting into the large portion of Cod I found the beer batter wonderfully crunchy and tasty and the fish cooked to perfection.....and very, very hot! In the end the portion size defeated me but what a lovely meal and friendly staff. Gazing round at other dishes people were eating you could see that all meals were beautifully presented and extremely appetising. I would heartily recommend the Home Cafe to anyone wanting to get away from the Formica tabled, quick turnaround joints all too common in seaside resorts.

After the refurbishment I'm in two minds about Home Cafe. It does look fresher, newer, etc as you'd expect but the new decor is not something I'd go for had I been decorating my own house. It looks very elegant, very posh but I liked the simplicity of the old look. Somehow it feels less like a home now but hopefully I'll get used to the blue and yellow coloured walls in time. The toilets haven't been refurbished yet sadly - I hope it's something on the "to do" list. I was glad to find out the new menu hasn't been drastically changed and I could still go for my favourite dishes, but most importantly the coffee - still as good as ever. I've noticed a slight rise in pricing but it didn't put me off - it's still fairly cheap for what you're getting. Now, the food presentation.Dear Home Cafe, what are you? A "greasy spoon" or a "posh" place? The food presentation (see photos) sure looks nice, don't get me wrong. But I've always been coming to Home Cafe for simple eats and when I was presented with a full English in a cast iron pan on a wooden board it screamed "pretentious" to me. Sometimes the simplest ways are the best ways and I soon found out the new way of serving food, however pleasing to the eye, was rather difficult to eat, much more difficult than when it was all stuffed on one big plate. My partner and I both agreed there was too much focus on style at the expense of practicality.I actually quite like the idea of eating off wooden boards so I was pleasantly surprised when the waitress brought our dishes but in my opinion it's something that would be more suited to an expensive food venue - in Home Cafe it simply looks and feels out of place. But don't let that discourage you, this place is worth a visit and I'll definitely be coming back too!P.S Thought the lighting was very dim, the cafe could benefit from some stronger or bigger lights to make it a little brighter.

Visited today with my partner. Going by the name expected a warm welcome. How wrong. Greeted by a young waitress who had completely overdone the fake tan especially on her hand. Ordered food and sat and waited. Partner order lamb casserole which in his words was ok. I ordered scampi and asked if I could have salad instead of peas. Mine arrived with the scampi placed on the chips and some brown lettuce and grated carrot on a side plate. I asked if I could perhaps have other salad items? It came back with two little pieces of tomato and one slice of cucumber. I then asjed if there was any mayonnaise. A catering bottle of mayonnaise was then produced. Attention needs to paid to staff customer service training and in food presentation. Not a pleasant experience!!

What a terrible place. Ordering was difficult, as both the two staff members were new to the job and couldn't work the till - and one of them didn't speak English. The table and chairs were dirty, and the restaurant was generally shabby and grimy. The food arrived in stages, with my pizza arriving after everyone else had finished their food. The quality of the food was poor - really cheap ingredients put together in the most basic and unattractive way. The ketchup was watered down and the squeezy bottle was filthy - the sauce had congealed in the lid. The outside toilets are truly disgusting - no paper, half-finished tiling and in need of a good clean. One of the worst places we have ever been.

we went to this cafe end of last year and were served by a dark haired girl/woman with a scar on her shoulder (i wish i had got her name, so I' m describing her as well as i can in the hope that the management will know who she is). she took our order and we found a table. we ordered 2 pizza with 2 potions of chips to go with it. we also had lasangue and chips and prawn jacket potato. After a little wait the latter two dishes were served and so were the extra potions of chips. we then waited a good 20mins for the rest of the meal. assuming they had been forgotten my mother spoke to the same girl we ordered with who in a very rude manner said 'well pizzas take a long time to cook, what do you want me to do' my mum returned to our table at which point the chips were cold. the girl them came over to the table with the pizzas ploncked them and said in a very angry manner ' heres your pizzas, they arent cook but because you complained you'll have to have them like that' the pizzas were very under-cooked and the ham on one of the pizzas smelt rancid. we were shocked by the manner in which we were spoken to especially as we had two children with us, if we had ate the pizzas we would without doubt been very ill. we had not complained, but just inquired where the rest of our food was, which after all that time waiting and having already paid for our food, we were perfectly within our rights to ask. if it wasnt for the fact that we had already paid we would have left without paying. please go somewhere else for you food, there are so many great places to eat in Aberyswydd and if anyone else has a simular experience make so you take a note of the girls name!

I quite like this place, it has some charm about it. What I like about it is that it's very simple, not pretentious, doesn't try to be something it's not. It feels very warm, welcoming and as the name would suggest - homelike. A huge range of foods on the menu but I always go for the mega breakfast (£4.99 including drink) whether breakfast time or not, because they make very nice fry ups. There's loads of room inside but can get quite busy on the weekends. Absolutely delicious coffee, I don't know what's the secret recipe but it tastes 10 times better than the most expensive coffee I've ever had. The prices are very reasonable too, sometimes I'm wondering how they can get away with charging so little and still make a profit. The only downside I can think of is that the owner sometimes goes out for a fag and the smell gets through the backdoor which ruins the atmosphere somewhat.

The tables are mis-matched and chairs basic. I had baked beans and hubby had the veg ciabatta. The baked beans were tepid - how hard is it?? The waitress had given us an out-of-date menu. This place could so easily be made to be more inviting with a range of small tables, allowing better arrangements for 2, 4 6 etc. rather than the large ones crammed together. We should've walked in the opposite direction.
