Holdi in Liverpool

Comically late.Dont bother.The usual phone calls with reassurance that it's on its way followed by more of the same.

First visit here after hearing good things from friends. Easy ordering on line to collect at the restaurant, everything was ready when we arrived. Really good food ( little disappointed in the mixed kebab starter as it was just a lamb kebab, samosa & bhaji not a mixed kebab at all ) Overall though, really good Indian food, we will definitely be returning

Absolutely delicious food and you were very quick to deliver!! Thank you, we have enjoyed eating in the restaurant but will be using the take away service a lot now too. The sag aloo is best I’ve ever had :-)

I don't usually write reviews but I was so disappointed with this meal I ordered. I ordered veg samosa but received the attached. Basically it was a Chinese spring roll, which was barely cooked and had hardly any filling in it Bit steep for £3.30.The rice, nan bread and poppadom were also all cold. The rice was hard like yesterday's leftovers. The veg korma was hot and tasty but the onions in it were almost raw. On the plus side, the salad was fresh and crisp. I was recommended by a friend who orders there regularly. I have dined at the restaurant and enjoyed it but I don't think I would order takeaway again. Not least because when I phoned, the gentleman wasn't really interested in my comments.

Over the years we’ve really struggled to find a nice Indian restaurant in Liverpool so we ventured a bit further out of town for a takeaway from Holdi. The food was ok, nothing special, however I was horrified to have nearly swallowed a large, sharp piece of plastic that was in my rice. Suffice to say I didn’t eat the rest of it. Disappointed and won’t be returning.

Wife had booked for our anniversary. I have been the rainforest holdi a few times and food quality was excellent there. Food quality here was not as good as rainford, but still worth a visit. COVID measurements where ok. Seating had screens between tables and most of the staff wore a mask correctly. Still some using masks as chin warmers. I could not see any enforcement as guests where walking in and out without masks although some did where them.

Straightforward ordering on line. Ready for collection on time. Food excellent, 2 lamb dishes both with very tender and plentiful lamb, 2 chicken dishes both with lean tasty meat. This is our first meal from Holdi but it will not be our last. We would definitely recommend Holdi for delicious food.

The Holdi is the best Indian restaurants in Liverpool. Atmosphere & staff are amazing and the interior is lovely too Always have the best meal when I visit and nothing it ever too much for the staff Highly Recommend

Acabo de regresar de una visita de 2 horas y solo estaba esperando comida, cuando los platos principales finalmente llegaron 1 hora y 40 minutos después de nuestra llegada, la comida fue una completa decepción, pedí una fuente chisporroteante pero ni un solo chisporroteo y un cordero muy exagerado , incomible! Esperaba que el plato valiera la pena esperar, pero lamentablemente no. Ellos eliminaron la comida de la cuenta, pero para ser honesto, no estoy del todo seguro de que no se haya hecho a propósito, ya que la cantidad de bebidas caras que se consumirán esperando la comida aumenta la cuenta total.No volverá.

He estado yendo aquí desde que abrió y siempre ha sido uno de los favoritos, pero lamentablemente nuestra visita el viernes significa que no volveremos pronto.La sala de espera estaba muy ocupada sin distanciamiento social y, a pesar del cambio en la ley que requería máscaras cuando no estaban sentadas, las personas sin máscaras aún podían ingresar al restaurante. Tampoco se tomaron detalles de seguimiento y rastreo.Nuestros poppadoms llegaron rápidamente, pero nuestras comidas principales tardaron casi 2 horas en llegar. Sin duda, hubo varios invitados que no habrían terminado sus comidas antes de la fecha límite de las 10 pm. Quizás lo más preocupante fue que otros invitados deambulaban entre las mesas y se ponían de pie con otros grupos sin ser desafiados por el personal.Cuando finalmente llegó, la comida era excelente y el personal atento, pero no se siente seguro en este momento.

Reservé una mesa para el cumpleaños de mi hija con 1 semana de anticipación para las 7 en punto, esperamos en el vestíbulo que estaba abarrotado de gente sin absolutamente una máscara a la vista hasta las 7 - 45 y luego recibimos la atención de alguien solo para decirnos que otras personas estaban esperando para las mesas era un caos, nos sentíamos tan incómodos esperando en esta zona tan concurrida que decidimos irnos. Absolutamente vergüenza de un restaurante que no deberían aceptar reservas que no pueden cumplir, la noche de cumpleaños se arruinó gracias!

Visité aquí para el cumpleaños de un amigo la primera vez que estuvimos, desinfectante muy limpio en todas partes, hermosa decoración espaciosa, personal muy atento y amigable, muy buen ambiente.La comida era absolutamente deliciosa, todos la disfrutamos mucho, tanto que llevé a mi familia a visitarla poco después.Definitivamente recomendaría una visita aquí.

Love this restaurant, one of our favourites (have rated 5 star in past), but felt deeply uncomfortable there tonight. Tables very close together, much less than 1 metre. Our table was crammed in middle of restaurant so we objected and were placed in a quieter part of the restaurant but as it filled up they were placing people on the tables right next to us. We objected again and near table was left clear only to be filled 10 mins later without any consultation with us. Wouldn't have been so bad but our food was very late and we felt a bit stuck. Had a discussion with the manager but really don't think they get it. Apologetic but bizarre excuse after bizarre excuse. Was also my son's birthday so trying not to make a fuss in front of him but not well handled at all. Packing people in as if a normal Sat night. Will not be returning until pandemic is over if at all. Gutted and just hope no one in that place has the virus as likely many of us now have.

Booked a table for 8.30. It seemed iffy when I booked the guy was"yeh yeh no problem"which raised alarm bells. We turned up at 8.20 and the place was rammed. We thought the people in the immediate reception area were waiting for takeaways but it turned out they'd booked too. Waiter told us to come back in 15 minutes which was totally unrealistic and insulting. Social distancing was non existent. Went across the road to the other Indian restaurant in Woolton(Dotana) and had a lovely meal. Fresh food and nice atmosphere. Won't bother with this place again.

Been to restaurant a good few times and food has always been top notch, had takeaway last night and it was awful, very very overcooked prawns, couldn’t even chew them, tikka starters also overcooked and really dry, my main meal tasted really gritty, whole lot went straight into the bin apart from the sea bass meal which was lovely

Excellent food and service as always. All Covid 19 measures in place and felt very safe. Staff all wearing masks, socially distanced without losing any of the friendly service.

Usually had good meals here. However ordered a 'lock down' and 'social distancing' meal for a small group of friends.Order was late, can't rely see how as this was at the beginning of the night?We all ordered Chicken Dishes of different strengths, but there was no indication which dish was which? (A simple black marker used to write on the lid.)The portions were relatively small and rather oily.Hope this was a 1 off as we do like the restaurant.

The Holdi is a favourite of ours and never lets us down on the quality of food and exceptional service, so it was a no brainer to use their takeaway service being offered at present..As usual the food delivered was tasty, full of flavour and just as good as if we had visited the restaurant..Thanks Holdi...

Got to say, had a takeaway last night from here, pre-ordered earlier in the day online for 5:45, arrived at 5:45 food waiting, staff very nice.Dropped food off for my parents and then home to eat ours, food still hot The food was the best Indian takeaway we have had, 5 different meals, all rated 10/10Would highly recommend and we will be definitely be going again soonLooking forward to lockdown ending will be trying the restaurant with friends

Ordered food for 7:45 it got delivered at 9:25 phoned them 8:30 fella in there said its out for delivery rang back 30 mins later the fella said sorry its only just came out why lie he said we are busy he didn't have to lie and was wrong food what we ordered chicken was dry £45 down the drain we normally sit in and food is always spot on disappointed

I’ve been 3 times now as everyone tells me how good it is ! I just feel food is you’re bland , service is always shockingly slow and disorganised. Everyone raves that it’s the best etc , I use Shahs in lark lane , nearly half the price but amazing fresh tastes and flavours .

This is the best Indian around and we always visit when back home. In fact we have made the trip from Manchester just to come here before now. The restaurant is stunning, the food is superb and the staff are always friendly and efficient. This place is literally a hidden gem!

El servicio inicial fue un poco al azar cuando pedimos pre bebidas, pero ese fue nuestro único problema. La selección de alimentos es extensa, al igual que el conocimiento y el asesoramiento del personal. Pedimos una extensión de entrantes y platos principales que todos disfrutaron. Holdi , heard alot of good things abt this place , the rare occasion that me & the Mrs get to dine without the kids in tow , i was looking forward to my meal !!Food , the food was average to be fair , well cooked but nothing special same with the wifes.. Service was good , the young lads who served us were polite & efficient, Drinks ,, I ordered a pint of coke , & to be served a lukewarm pint of obviously bottled Coke was a let down , Really ? In this day & age ??? So if you’re ok with average Indian meals with warm drinks then you’ll love it here..Contemporary Indian quisine ?? Nahh l!! I think not. ..

Ordered takeaway online on a Saturday night. Upon collection I was told the starters I’d ordered where not actually gluten free as I’d thought. The lovely server Shar offered additional complimentary GF starters which then were not put in our order bag. As our address was included in the online order, Shar came and delivered what had been forgotten with some extra poppadoms and a chutney tray. The service was above and beyond and the food amazing as always. Thank you very much Shar.

How is the holdi #146 ? more people need to visit the Holdi it is a fantastic restaurant tucked away in woolton village, the indian food is some of the best in the City, its a 10/10 every visit

Eaten here twice, two totally different experiences. First time it was busy but not hectic. Service and food were excellent.

Arrived at 8pm and managed to get a table for 4 straight away. We ordered drinks which took quite a while to arrive, and we had to chase them up a couple of times. Food was absolutely delicious. Staff was friendly. Will definitely be coming back soon.

Whilst the food was lovely and I have absolutely complaints there... the experience needs to be improved here.

Booked for 7.30pm. Arrived 7.30pm. They spent more effort serving take aways than looking after bookings. After 8pm and no sign of a table or apology we walked out. Gave it one star as couldnt give it zero. Will 100% never go back. Went chinese two doors away and had a lovely meal with polite staff. AVOID!!!!

This is a very nice restaurant. Great variations on favourite Indian dishes, served in comfortable surroundings (by very efficient staff). It does, though, get incredibly busy - to the point where you may have to wait for a table even though you have booked a particular time. For weekends, you should definitely book.

We had our Christmas lunch at Holdi this year. We enjoyed our day as they made every effort to make you feel welcome- the staff are fantastic. The atmosphere was lovely. My only complaint would be the lunch. There was a lack of pigs in blankets, parsnips, cranberry sauce and not enough roast potatoes. I did not feel it was a “proper” Christmas lunch. Having said that the Turkey was amazing, plenty of it and so well cooked. I will not be put off going here again but this time for a traditional Indian meal. My niece and her family have been here a few times and love it.

The menu is far too big. My group of 4 all had different chicken dishes. The chicken was obviously pre cooked, all the same and put into different sauces, which were all pretty much the same too.

Visited with my family for an 18th birthday celebration. I was very impressed. The menu was varied with loads to choose from. Food was delicious and arrived promptly and all togethor . The service was excellent with the waiters going out of their way to make it a lovely occasion. Can not fault this restaurant and can highly recommend it x

We have been visiting the Holdi restaurant for a quite a few years now with the family and are always pleased every time we go.

Been here about 8 times and it’s never let us down. Vast menu - we choose something different each time (though I will say the onion bahjis aren’t brilliant). However, the place is well kept, the service is superb, and the atmosphere is nice...but the food is the real hero here - I bring every visitor we have to this restaurant! A total gem.

Been here a few times and visited again tonight with my husband for my birthday. All the staff are really friendly and very attentive, even when the restaurant is busy. The meals are delicious, really tasty and can't fault a thing. A big thanks to the chefs. We will be back.

Nuestro plato principal llegó antes de los entrantes y esperamos 30 minutos para llamar la atención de alguien por la factura. Parecía que los grupos más grandes a nuestro alrededor eran más importantes para atender tanta vergüenza que la comida era deliciosa.

Just had a meal there after recently moving to Woolton and wow! All four of us agreed that it was probably the best Indian meal we have eaten. Add to that the faultless service and this place is not be missed.

Debo ser honesto y decir que he vivido en Liverpool durante 30 años y no sabía que este lugar existía, ya que se encuentra en un pasaje entre Lloyds Bank y la entrada de Sainsburys. en la calle Woolton L 25 Qué hallazgo. Para empezar, el lugar está muy bien decorado, con un gran ambiente, los camareros son muy atentos y serviciales. Comenzamos con los poppadoms y chutney. Mi esposa tenía el plato de cordero, que era increíblemente bien preparado y muy caliente. Tuve pollo Madras con limón y arroz con miel, que estaba hecho a la perfección, también pedimos un pan Nanh de Peshwari, los dos estuvimos de acuerdo en que el pan de Nann era el mejor que habíamos probado. Comido aquí muchas veces y debo decir que esta noche fue horrible. Una de nuestras mesas no tenía entrante, platos principales era plato de cordero estaba demasiado cocido y sofocado en queso. El marido tenía carne de cordero que tenía diez veces y esta noche fue duro y demasiado picante. Las opciones de verduras no eran agradables y esperamos 15 minutos para nuestra primera bebida. Pensaría dos veces antes de reservar de nuevo

Amigos y familiares de todas las edades se reunieron para la celebración del 70 cumpleaños de mi madre. Éramos 22, todo tipo de personas estaban en el grupo, desde aficionados al curry hasta novatos. La reserva fue fácil, Holdi se mantuvo en contacto con nosotros sobre la reserva y acordamos dejarles un pastel para después de la comida. A todos les encantó. Desde la comida, que era tan fresca y deliciosa, hasta el servicio, que era impecable y muy amable. Siempre será un recuerdo especial para todos, así que gracias a todos en Holdi

My husband and I went here last minute after a babysitter became available. Delighted to get a table as we have been here before and it’s always packed out. Food was amazing as usual it’s sooooo tasty. The waiters are amazing they come and have a conversation with you and I love this!! They remember we are also real people and not just customers!! Great atmosphere and we will 100% be returning

Booked a table for 4 at 8 -30 and were told they did Not have our booking i asked to see the reservation list and my name was on there eventually seated at 8-55 after waiting in a crammed holding area,ladies toilet not flushing properly,the starters and main courses were nice but nothing special bearing in mind the cost of the meals we did expect better also when the main Courses arrrived we had 3 plates for 4 people and no cutlery staff went away for cutlery and forgot the other plate and were a couple of minutes each time so food was not hot when we finally started our meal .

Took friends and they too were very impressed. Food is amazing vast selection. Staff very attentive and food served very quickly. Only but is the toilets! Holdi get the toilet fixed and the tap nearly came off in my hand. Shame this lets this beautiful restaurant down. However This would not stop me going back I dont go out to do reviews on toilets.

Visited holdi with my wife and friends !! Toilet was out of order and menus were dirty and sticky , food was not good !! Popadoms and dips were very nice Lamb chops were very tough obviously not been marinated in yoghurt and chicken puri just tasted of cloves and nothing else ,chicken buna was very salty also expensive!! I will not be returning to holdi !!

Acogedora sala de espera donde usted espera su mesa o se la lleva. El personal es perfecto, no demasiado exuberante pero agradable y acogedor. El menú es variado y los precios son de gama media. Los cuatro empezamos con popadoms y dips. Tuvimos diferentes comidas para el plato principal. Todo absolutamente fabuloso. Muy sabroso, fresco y perfectamente preparado. Buena selección de vinos y bebidas disponibles. El personal era cortés y agradable.

Qué fantástico hallazgo. La comida era inusual y fantástica. Hicieron sus comidas indias habituales, pero los especiales son para morirse. Es una pena que esté tan lejos de donde vivimos, de lo contrario iríamos allí todas las semanas. El personal es muy amable y el servicio fue muy bueno, ya que estaban muy ocupados en el restaurante y para llevar. El aparcamiento es muy pequeño y solo tiene capacidad para cuatro coches. Teníamos un taxi de ida y vuelta que era perfecto. Recomiendo encarecidamente este restaurante Asegúrate de reservar como muy ocupado.

Fuimos con 2 amigos que lo habían recomendado. La comida estaba bien, pero tantas mesas habían sido aplastadas en la habitación que el espacio era muy limitado. Todos encontramos el ruido excesivo y luchamos por oírnos hablar. Sin embargo, el descubrimiento más impactante fue el estado de los baños. Honestamente puedo decir que fueron los peores en los que he estado. No volveré allí hasta que escuche en la vid que se han tratado con ellos, a pesar de disfrutar de la comida.

We went after lots of friends had recommended it. Even though we had booked, we had to wait a few minutes for our table to be ready. I had Garlic Butterfly Prawns to start, so tender and in a delicious sauce.

My husband and I thought we would treat ourselves to Christmas lunch out after a bad year with bereavements etc. The staff here were so lovely and attentive the service cannot be faulted. However, with large family parties and tables of up to 18-20 people, packed in like sardines, the noise was just unbearable. The very low ceilings seemed to make the noise even worse, it was so bad we were unable to have a conversation together during our meal.

A brilliant dining experience!although very busy the night we went the the staff were excellent ,as was the food,which was very reasonably priced.the whole interior is great with lit up water partitions.will definitely be returning .

Went to Holdi for a meal with 3 work mates, staff were very friendly and attentive. Jay is always a great host and made sure we were looked after. The food was top class, we all enjoyed our food, I had the garlic chilli chicken which was lovely, lots of chilli’s so does have a kick. Holdi is in a great place with plenty of bars and pubs nearby. Will be back again soon.

Having had a few ales in the local bars of Woolton Village myself and 5 friends decided to go to Holdi for a curry. We hadn't booked but the staff quickly found us a table. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food is of a high standard and that is reflected in the price (for example, a Balti in Holdi is approximately £10...compared to £11/12 in EastZEast in the Kings Dock or £7 in UnI on Renshaw Street). The decor is clean and smart - the sort of place you could go with a group of friends or as a couple.

We visited for dinner with family before going the cinema last week. We don't get the chance to eat out often so it's always a treat when we do. For the price - it wasn't really worth it. Food was ok but no better than you would get from an average takeaway (just far more expensive). Service was slow and we were almost late for our film despite giving ourselves an hour and a half to eat just one course. Also make sure you check your bill thoroughly - we were charged for a bottle of wine we didn't have!

This restaurant flatters to deceive. The food, as a previous review indicates, was of a higher standard than it is now. The biggest problem for me with this restaurant is it’s absolute inability to meet reservation times, whether it be for a table to dine in the restaurant or a time to pick up a takeaway meal. I have stopped going to the restaurant to eat in because no matter what time you book a table for you are kept waiting 30 minutes and upwards to be seated ( usually at weekends I accept ) Today I ordered a takeaway meal at 5.30pm ( Saturday ) and I expressly explained I wanted this to be ready for 8.00pm as we had friends visiting our home this evening. I arrived at the restaurant at 7.50pm and then waited 25 minutes before I received my order. The order itself was incorrect as I was given an extra portion of rice which I hadn’t ordered but for which I was charged, and the whole order was at best warm. The food I ordered was more than £15 more expensive than I would have paid at the Khaja takeaway across the road, and the food was no better. I will not be visiting Holdi again as I will not have my custom taken for granted at exhorbitant prices.

We booked a table here for 8-30 and was standing around for 25 minutes as there was no seats available until we were shown to our table,Another problem here are the Toilets in the gents only one urinal which i find strange considering the size of the restaurant and guys queuing up saying the same thing. i did ask a member of staff were there any other toilets and the answer was NO also the cubicle was broken and we were also told that it was similar in the ladies where only one cubicle was working in there as well,hand towels were just thrown on the floor as no bin available,obviously not cleaned during the night as we used the toilets on our way out and the floor wa sworse than ever with hand towels everywhere.

After few bad and some not good experiences with in Indian restaurant in recent months , I was getting a bit worried if the quality of Indian in Liverpool has gone down. I am glad we found this lovely Indian restaurant in Woolton, beautifully decorated, with friendly and helpful staff and delicious food. I was wored that some of dishes are not as spicy, well that was not the case in our main course which were Lamb balti Rogan josh and chicken tikka biriyani.

Our first visit to The Holdi was just 3 of us for a birthday. We all enjoyed our meals great food and some really interesting dishes I've never seen before. It was a Thursday night and we had booked for 6.30pm but it soon became very busy, lots appeared to be regulars. Beautifully designed interior and felt really comfortable.

Ate at Holdi on Friday after not visiting for a while. What's happened Holdi!!! The food used to be excellent, but it was very disappointing this time, to the point where I won't visit again, unless it ups it's game again. The food was at best, average and at worst very poor. Only one out of the 5 curries had any flavour. The rest were bland and boring. The rice was hard, dry and gritty and the starters were more like you'd buy frozen in a supermarket. The staff are still all brilliant though. 10 out of 10 for them. Always lovely, friendly and helpful. I hope the food improves again. It would be a shame if it didn't. I won't be going back otherwise and won't be recomme ding it again. Sorry Holdi, but something's gone wrong and you need to put it right again soon.

El personal no para usted, haciendo lo imposible para ir por encima y más allá de cada vez. Me encanta su francés puertas corredizas ih el verano cuando el clima es agradable. . . . . I have eaten in hundreds of Indian restaurants all over, and I would place the Holdi as best I have been in for food. A 5 star Highly recommended.

Visited here second time. Service was poor on first visit but thought would try again. Waiter very polite served very quickly. Food really Good. Only complaint is think they did not give us enough time between each course. As soon as we finished one other came out. But couldn't fault food! Decor very nice. Luv the waterfall effect!

Let’s get the downside out of the way.... it was a weird Tuesday and Woolton village was rammed. Holdi was really busy - over busy. Service therefore suffered but the quality of the food was as perfect as usual. Would always recommend Holdi.

Hemos vivido en la zona durante 10 años y no sabía de este lugar existía. Está muy bien escondido! Después de un montón de críticas positivas, nos dimos una oportunidad esta noche y no nos decepcionó. El personal es profesional y amable y el restaurante es precioso. El menú tiene muchas opciones para elegir y toda la comida que pedimos era increíble! La mejor comida india que he tenido. Así que me alegro de este tesoro escondido está tan cerca y sin duda volveremos!

Best Indian in Liverpool by miles. The king prawns are sublime. Massive and juicy. 10 out 10 would choose here over any Indian and I've tried most of them.

5 of us ate midweek and it was fairly busy. We all had a different meal and the consenus was it was good and we all enjoyed the food and the service was perfectly acceptable.

Fuimos a Holdi por primera vez esta semana como una celebración de cumpleaños mixto para mi pareja y mi padre. La comida era excelente, y el personal era encantador, arrojando en algunos extras para nosotros, incluyendo un whisky cada uno para los chicos de cumpleaños! Gran experiencia y sin duda volveremos.

Visitamos a unos amigos en Liverpool y nos llevaron a este restaurante en sábado. Menús estaban bien diseñadas, así que podías pedir según preferencia de especias y la comida era deliciosa. El servicio era constante en el que no nos sentimos presionados, pero entonces no tienes que esperar mucho tiempo entre los campos. Teníamos poppadoms y salsas mientras espera y estos eran deliciosos. El personal era amable y servicial, y estábamos llenos. No vienen a darse cuenta que como un 2, si llevar un grupo quería el mismo arroz entonces sólo 1 plato de arroz no pedir cada uno ya que hay mucho para 2. Volveremos cuando nos visite Liverpool.

I’ve been to Holdi many times and should have wrote a review by now. A superb restaurant but also does competitively priced takeaway meals. I always opt for a veggie tikka which goes down well. Thanks for the free beer also.
