HMS Hinchinbrook in Great Yarmouth

Fair service, fair pricing, and fair food. Plenty room for groups as well as some cosy booths for a bit more privacy. The "Cash preferred" sign at the pay point seemed dated in 2024, but our card was accepted with a smile. We'd definitely be happy to eat here again.

The team fitted us in without a booking on a Sunday which was great. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious and quick to arrive. You have to pay at the bar. The toilets were clean. Overall I would recommend:

Went here yesterday. 8 of us plus a high chair. We were lucky that we got in as we hadn't booked. The service was great, very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. They were great with my little niece, gave her a book to look at , which she loved. The food was really good, top quality. I had the roast beef and it was really lovely. Nothing was frozen, or tinned. Everything was fresh and made from scratch. Childrens portions were really good to. Will definitely come back here again. Best in the area .

This place is a must if your in Yarmouth, the fish and chips was so fresh and a great portion size, the staff was very friendly and pretty quick to be served, all round had a great experience with the family

Just got back to our hotel after having tea here. I had plaice and chips, other half had cod and chips....all really tasty, presentation lovely and service was wonderful....will definitely be back.

We had lovely food here today Sunday roast was perfect very tasty and good produce used , we had roast chicken and pork dinner and our fussy grandchildren had the kids portions nuggets and the fish and they said it was lovely too.

Had a Chicken Breast roast dinner and it was well cooked and plenty of food and tasted great. The owner made us feel welcome and was friendly. Great service too.

Have been to the hinchinbrook few times before in the last couple of years. Was always well pleased with food. Tasty hot and well presented. Went there Saturday evening. Was disappointed. Burger was okay. Nothing special. And I had lasagne chips and a hot chocolate. Hot Was a cold chocolate!!!! And lasagne wasn't nice hard lasagne sheets and again cold. Wasn't a good meal. Children's meals were okay!! Didn't come round and ask if food okay.use to!! Shouldn't take it for granted that they always have customers cos circumstances can change in a instance. Clean restaurant. Parking in road. Or carpark along seafront.

We ate here twice during our stay in great Yarmouth, food was beautiful both times. Sunday roast is the best roast we have had in a long time, highly recommend.

Ordered hot dog and paid £2 extra for "paprika" wedges. Resulting in a single burnt potato worth of wedges with no flavour whatsoever. What on earth I paid £2 extra for I don't know. Moving mountain hot dog is fine despite it also being slightly burnt on the bottom.

We were greeted & seated (3 adults, 2 children) ordered drinks & food. After being served we had to ask for the appropriate amount of cutlery, then hunt on different tables for sauces we wanted. Salmon was overcooked, beans were overcooked, 2x chicken nugget meals were school canteen standard at best, burger was beyond bland, skin-on fries were soooo dry & the onion ring was literally a piece of onion skin battered. We pointed out that we weren't happy with our meal, and what you see in the attached pictures is the food that we left. Upon going up to settle the bill we were met by the owner/manager who mumbled to the cashier that we could be discounted the price of one of the chicken nugget portions, she then proceeded to abruptly address us that "nobody else had complained" and "we can't see inside onion rings" Rude, arrogant behaviour (this has been pointed out in other reviews), shouldn't be in hospitality with mannerisms like that. Even with the discount, our meal was £80+ Overpriced, poor quality, awful attitude. Avoid!

My wife liked the cod, new potatoes and green beans but I only ate half of my Meal: plant burger n chips .. completely and totally tasteless.. this was our first time. There won’t b a second :(

Have been here a number of times over the years. Unfortunately the prices seem to have gone up (its Yarmouth) and the food has gone down. I had a large haddock with chips which looked much better than it tasted. The haddock had no real taste at all and was all batter covering a thin later of haddock (which as I say was a bonus as it was tasteless anyway. A real let down and at around £15 not good.

Great fish and chips in a clean and family-run restaurant. Come here to sit down and watch the rides whilst enjoying a cold beer and made-to-order fish and chips.

Really nice restaurant, allows dogs in the outside seating. Nice to have a vegan option that was similar to regular food. Huge portions. Lovely to sit and watch the ferris wheel and slingshot.

Just came back from great yarmouth and had to write a review on a little gem we found.It was so good we went both Friday and Saturday.The food was perfect and the steak pie i had on Saturday night was FANTASTIC. The staff were lovely to. They went out of their way to make it a beautiful evening. 100 of of 10 guys.Keep up the fantastic work.

Charming family run business with awesome food and terrific staff. Relaxed, good value and high quality. Super friendly hostess (owner) who runs a tight ship. Definitely recommended.

Battered sausages 🙄 a blonde lady welcomed us … she was really rude … food wasn’t good. Stuffed with oil! No chicken in the grill menu ( just hamburger chicken / who knows whatever was inside as the sausage was really mixed, not even had taste of meat) 🙈 the lady that served us was really lovely person ❤️i just came here for grill and reviews ! Has to be the worst fish and chips I've ever tasted or didn't taste as it was so bland! Partners steak which they said was sirloin was definitely a minute steak, burnt and no seasoning yet wanted £25...100% frozen food

Really nice Fish and chips the only let down being the amount of tartare sauce given was in those McDonald's in-house tomato ketchup paper cups which seemed a bit stingy. Overall the fish was lovely.

Wonderful food served by lovely staff

This is a reasonably large sea front restaurant serving a holiday clientele. The food was hot but not particularly appetising and I felt for the pie it was overpriced. The restaurant was clean and service reasonably quick. When I requested some additionally gravy we were told we would be charged extra for it. Unbelievable. Food filled a hole but I would not rush back

The food was lovely, service was very good. We were sat outside and were asked to pay for food prior to service, we didn't have an issue with this at the time, seemed good business practice.. However customers arriving before and after weren't asked to pay until they had comsumed their food. Please explain your policy. Seems very judgemental and rude. How do you pick your clientele, we both have very good paid jobs. How dare you judge us? Just rude, will we come back again or recommend ..... no. Judgemental and bad business error!!! An explanation would be good.

Must say the food was actually good to be fair, ive seen previous reviews about the same complaint im about to make and its about the rude middle age waitress grey/blonde hair who has no matters when speaking to customers. Bearing in mind there was a lot of us she was so rude! How is she still working front of house when there are so many complaints about her.

Had the loveliest meal and service today. The kids absolutely loved it and loved the super friendly service. It was lovely and clean and felt like a super special treat but at a reasonable price! Went as a group of 7 and everybody loved the food and said how lovely the atmosphere was!

Ordered Lasagne with salad, Foot long hotdog with skin on fries. The fries were hard and quite a few were green, the onions on top of the hotdogs were awful. Looked and tasted like they had been sitting around for a while, very sloppy. The service was good. Sadly won't be visiting again or recommending.

Went in once and food was fine although salmon expensive and beans overcooked. Went in again with my son who was unwell and really needed the toilet .was very rudely told I needed to be seated first. When we came out of the toilet was told to leave which was absolutely fine as after the way we'd been talken to, would never eat there again and would say avoid unless you like rudeness. Never ever been spoken to like that in a cafe. No regard for my son's condition. Disgusting behaviour and has put me off going to great yarmouth.

Lovely staff, clean restaurant, great food. Had a lovely welcome family of 2 adults and 2 children. Had 1 kids cod and chips, 1 kids macaroni cheese and 2 large cod meals. All lovely, fresh and hot and we all really enjoyed our meals. Would definitely go back.

Arrived just as they were closing, however warmly welcomed us in with our dog. Couldn't recommend this place higher. The staff here obviously have it's best interests at heart, it really shows how much it means to them. The service here was excellent. The food was also fantastic. The battered plaice was the freshest I've ever had, and with perfect batter. Others in our group had the gammon, which they loved. Brilliant family run venue which I hope do extremely well in the future, because they absolutely deserve it. Huge thank you to the gentleman front of house and the chefs.

My meal was Absolutely disgusting sent it back. Never had fish like it and we go regularly to a fish restaurant where we live. When my lunch was presented the cod was that thin it was in an arch shape either cooked from frozen or it was just batter and skin. My husband had large haddock at £15.50 and the fish was not white as it should be it was grey and did not seem fresh.

I have to say we have just had the most superb food freshly prepared, Salmon, baby New potato's green beans all in a very tasty herby butter sauce. A taste sensation 😋 My husband had the five bean chilli he was over the moon with how tasty it was. So thankyou for all the work in the preparation and presentation 🙌 You just make our holiday!😊😋

The front of the HMS Hinchinbrook hides a real gem of the Great Yarmouth promenade. I've always avoided this place as it always looked a bit old and tired when I walked past, but went there on Saturday as it was away from the chaos of The Wheels Festival and had outside seating which suited the dog. Great attentive service and the food and drink were out in double quick time too. Good, honest British fish and chips, and great value as well. Would recommend.

Went with little one and mum on a weekend for lunch. The meal was tasty. The rib, in particular, we had was really juicy, tender and flavourful. Good variety on the standard menu. They have kids meals as well. They even have day's special. Various seating configurations to choose from and it feels really cozy and great hospitality. Thank you.

Was on holiday in Great Yarmouth and saw this little restaurant and popped in on the off-chance. Wow we hadn't had fish and chips for a few years but oh my god this place is wonderful. Plenty of choice of food and drink. Enjoyed it...

I really wanted to give this place more stars because it was really lovely. But what let it down was the surf and turf. I saw it advertised on a board outside, but didn’t see it on the menu. I asked the waitress if it was available and she said it was. So I ordered it. But because it wasn’t on the menu, I didn’t know the price of it. Had I known it was £30 I wouldn’t have ordered it! It was very mediocre and consisted mainly of chips. It was ok, but it definitely wasn’t worth £30. Maybe replacing some of the chips with peas or something would be an idea. Other than the disappointment of that meal, everyone else’s were fine, drinks were fab and service was great!

The restaurant looks fantastic from the outside however was a huge disappointment, we asked what the base ingredient was for their vegan burgers, the waitress didn't know so went to ask the chef, the chef did not know ingredients either!! He came out to us with a torn piece of cardboard from burger packaging and proceeded to read this out to us at the table!!! Food arrived and chips looked anaemic, discovered a hair on a chip which waitress advised as per chef that this was part of potato!! This was laying on the chip and not growing from it.... unfortunately i couldn't eat my meal even though I was offered a replacement meal One star from me......

Looks ok from the outside. Servers were nice and friendly. AND THAT'S ABOUT IT. Asked about food the contents of the vegan burger. The server went to ask the chef. He came out with the packaging box of the burgers as he did not know. (not made in house). Had bean chilli. Not much taste to it. Friends food had hair no the chips and the chef said it was a bit of the potato...#LYING. Would NOT recommend.

I really couldn't fault this place, we had the chef take time to let us know of the freshness of the fish, the food was fab, not too greasy like many fish and chip shops and the fish almost melts in the mouth. Price was comparable to anywhere else on the seafront but quality was very good. Captains combo is enough for 2-3 so i would recommend this to share.

We rocked up as the owner was about to shut and he decided to fire up the cooker and cook us the loveliest fish and chips this side of Brum. We must of been a good luck charm as another 5 customers came in while we sat waiting for our grub. Great service, friendly staff will deffo visit again when in the area

Lovely food, decent price. One problem though... they forgot all about our order. We were sat like lemons close to closing time waiting for food that didnt arrive. When we piped up they were absolutely mortified and tried to take care of us in an appropriate way, but it was just not really salvageable. I understand mistakes happen, but I'm not sure I've seen such a lack of interest from the waitress anywhere else before or since.

Great food and sized portions and a very reasonable price. Me and my partner were both very satisfied with our meals and the service was also top notch, the young lady who served us was very friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Went in this evening for a quick dinner with my son. Service friendly, food piping hot and clean restaurant. £14.50 for fish and chips is a bit steep but not extreme. £5 for a pint is fair too. Would visit again.

We always have at least 1 meal here when we visit Yarmouth. A bit pricey but the food is top quality and you get a good portion so pay for what you get. Clean restaurant with friendly staff that leave you to eat your meal without interruption.Family friendly with indoor and outdoor seating area.

Used to go to the Hinchinbrook whenever possible but recently had a dubious experience. Our meal was very small compared with the standard we had become used to and the waitress was quite abrupt despite the restaurant being quieter than we have seen before. When I asked for the bill it wasn't brought to the table and so I went to the counter. The person behind the counter didn't tell me how much the bill was but indicated I should use the card machine. I entered my pin number and the machine asked if the money should be drawn from my card in Danish Krone from my bank or GBP. Before I could proceed with my selection the person behind the counter reached across and pressed the GBP. I asked her why she did this and she just shrugged her shoulders. I do not mind that it cost me an extra couple of quid converting the money taken from the card instead of the the exchange taking place by the point of sale provider..... But I do mind that the card machine was being monitored so closely that she was able to read the screen and reach across and press the button before I could make a selection of my own.

Amazing customer service, me and my son have a dairy allergy and rather than being told what we couldn't have, or pointed towards the vegan menu, the lady serving us made suggestions that weren't on the menu. It was lovely of her and the food tasted delicious. There were 7 of us in our party and we would definitely return, not just for the delicious food but the outstanding customer service!!!

First ever visit to this place on a day out to Gt. Yarmouth. Seating choice of inside or out. As it was a hot day we decided to eat in but entrance doors were open so an occasional cool breeze coming in was nice. I had cod, chips, mushy peas + tartare sauce. Wife had quiche, salad + red onion coleslaw ( and a few of my chips!). Her quiche was served hot as was my meal. We were greeted at the entrance by a polite, friendly waitress who showed us to our table with comfortable seating. High chairs available for the young ones if needed. Would go there again.

Was seated by staff and then ignored. Other customers who came in after us were served but we were still ignored. Can't comment on the food cos we never got any .0 stars

Lovely food and great staff I'd say the prices are reasonable too, if your around the area defentily worth popping in for a bite.
