Lovely small cafe in Old town, has a nice selection of sandwiches, bagels and cakes along with coffee - it is a self proclaimed laptop free zone - they want you to converse or read if on your own - we had a lovely experience, isn't somewhere we'd take our toddler but was nice for a couples breakfast, coffee and catch up

Lovely place with great tea selection and good vegan options. Always my go-to when in the Old Town. Staff are always kind, chatty but efficient. Love love love

As a regular at Hive in Hemel Hempstead, I can't believe I haven't posted a review yet! This café embodies everything you'd want in your local spot: incredibly friendly and welcoming staff who always greet you with a smile. The coffee here is absolutely delightful, consistently hitting the spot every time. Even though I don't have a furry friend myself, I adore the fact that Hive is a dog-friendly café. The presence of our four-legged friends adds an extra layer of charm to the already cosy atmosphere. One of my favourite things about Hive is the abundance of greenery. The numerous plants create such a homely vibe, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. Whether you're looking for a quick caffeine fix or a leisurely catch-up with friends, Hive is the place to be. Highly recommended!

The best coffee shop in Hemel by far. Lovely coffee, the cakes are scrumptious and top notch customer service.

Really this is 3.5 stars but only giving 3 seemed a bit mean. The coffee is ok but not amazing and the food was good but not great. They make a big fuss about their coffee on their website and whilst it’s much better than the chains, it still had a bitterness to it.

Wonderful food, wonderful shop, wonderful people! Never had a bad experience here! Plants are fantastic quality and the chocolate banana slice is to die for!

Best oat flat white I’ve had so far in HH while visiting family. Also very relaxing atmosphere. Will be back!

It’s just the perfect cafe to work in or to just enjoy a nice warm drink and incredible quality food. i highly recommend the avocado and mushrooms on toast the avocado was fresh, everything was warm and delicious. i was there 10 minutes before opening and the woman kindly let us in, they were hospitable and welcoming and i couldn’t ask for a better experience.

Based on the Americano coffee I got it was was of good quality! You can always tell how good a baristas coffee is by trying a black coffee! Very smooth full bodied roast! Overall better then your chain spots. There was selection of cakes and savoury food available also. Always try supporting local businesses and £3 for the coffee it’s very competitive!

My type of coffee shop! Small, intimate, and with friendly smiling staff. Way better than industrial and "conveyor belt" shops 🤣 it has homey feel, rustic/modern decor, plants around, and calm lovely atmosphere. Food and coffee were also great!

Was in HH for some work and decided to have a coffee. I am huge on local cafè where possible so found this place. And it did not disappoint. Super friendly staff. Nice coffee but the wholemeal toast with butter was heavenly. Proper *melt in mouth*. Lovely spot. Enjoyed the hour spent there.

This cafe in the Old Town is ideally situated for anyone doing the Owl Trail currently available in Hemel Hempstead (or at least the five of 12 in that area). Service was good, food was tasty & came out very promptly and was reasonably priced. The coffee was a decent size and very good. Thoroughly recommended.

Awesome friendly spot, great staff who believe in service with a smile! Speedy service from ordering to drinks and food on the table, quality of both was very good too. This is a great space, clean and inviting, lots of greenery inside, some gorgeous plants and great baked goods on offer too. Good menu range and they have a strong community vibe too, offering so much more at different times that other businesses miss out on. Worth visiting if you're in the area. If you're not? Worth driving too! Dog friendly as well, BIG win there. Treats, water and dog cushions available!

This was such a great little find! The staff where so polite and made us feel very welcome even with a baby and noisy dachshund in tow. The food and coffee was really good, Although I was gutted that I didn’t get to try the vegan carrot cake before they sold out (it looked amazing!) so that is definitely a good excuse to return at another date.

Seriously impractical with kids. They don’t even have a toilet.. at all! The place looks nice and cool but there are a lot of plants for sale all over the floor which we had to try not to knock with chairs. The food was good, if a little over-priced. We didn’t feel welcome with the kids dropping the odd cucumber slice and we were practically ushered out with dustpans! This on a Sunday afternoon, a stones throw from the big family park. We’ll try somewhere else for lunch next time.

Had heard about this cafe and was keen to visit. I read up on the web and it sounded good. Always on the lookout for a good flat white. Visited mid week with my partner and certainly not disappointed. Was looking forward to tasting their coffee bean mix of Costa Rican, Colombian and Sumatran beans, superb ! The bacon and Brie baguette was excellent. Many thanks to the staff and see you soon.

Quirky fun and amazing coffee! Get a lovely feeling when you go inside very warm and cosy. Some fantastic plants also on display and available for purchase. Had a brie and bacon sandwich which was probably one of the best I've ever had. Also dog friendly which is a massive plus in todays society. Nice range of cakes and coffee and other drinks aswell as food. Price definitely fits with the quality... would highly recommend as one of the best cafes in the old town.

After a bracing walk at Gadebridge, we decided to have some breakfast at Hive Coffee Shop. The first plus point is that its dog friendly, which means we can eat inside. The decor and ambience is fresh and unique. It has been clearly thought out, with a view to being responsible and sustainable. The coffee is top notch and so is the food. Great value for money too. Speaking to the owner, Kelly, she had only assembled and trained her new team the day before, so they should all be congratulated on delivering such a friendly service. I am certain this jewel in the crown of cafes will go from strength to strength. We will certainly be returning for sure and believe this could be the best coffee and breakfast that we have eaten at in Hemel Hempstead.

My wife and I stopped for a coffee and cake in Hemel Hempstead on a Friday afternoon and headed straight to Hive based on the reviews I'd read here on TA. When we arrived, at 2:30pm (they close at 3pm), there wasn't really any cakes left to choose from other than Lemon & White Chocolate Muffins. There were some very nice Blondies being put out but these were frozen as had just come out of the freezer! We had latte's and a muffin each (£4.18 per person), the muffins were nice but the latte's were lukewarm, if we were not so close to closing time I'd have asked for it to be made hotter. We liked the decor and ambiance of the cafe, full of lovely green house plants that are also for sale. Spoke to the owner who was also very nice. Due to the fact that we visited so close to closing time I think it unfair to rate HIVE down on lack of cakes and the lukewarm latte, so giving it the benefit of the doubt and a 4/5 rating.

Lovely friendly place ! Beautiful hot chocolate.. they had 15 minutes until closing time and still welcomed me and my other half in for a hot chocolate ! X

No menu on display, which I thought was a legal requirement? Oh well, that's 3 places in Hemel Old Town that I won't be using.

Came in for brunch and went for the fry-up, which was really good. Food took a little while to arrive but the staff were very busy running around so can’t moan!

What a gorgeous place - staff very engaging and the food even more so...cannot think of a nicer place to be when it's raining outside (which it was) special mention for the fabulous jugs - very clever touch! :-)

Love this absolute gem of a café. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the coffee is delicious, and we can often be tempted by the selection of cakes on offer. The cherry on top is knowing they are dog-friendly and sometimes meeting new puppy pals when we visit!

Visited today and it didn’t disappoint. Inside its designed like something of a magazine very stylish but still has a cosy and quaint feeling. Excellent service from Kelly and the team. Lots of options for vegetarians and the hot chocolate is super delicious and creamy! Will definitely be back!!

I often walk my Dachshund in the nearby park and it is 'oh so easy' to find ourselves on the doorstep of the Hive. It is so lovely to be able to take my little pup into a coffee shop which truly welcomes dogs... he will always excitedly run down the Old Town towards his favourite retreat which sells ' cakeys'It is obvious this is a family business because the service and the interaction is paramount and this, together with the cosy and friendly atmosphere, is why I frequent the Hive 2 or 3 times a week.The fact that the food there, freshly made dishes and wonderful cakes are so 'yummy' plus at a very reasonable price is a real bonus.I love supporting this independent business as it is a real asset to our town

They serve an English breakfast without mushroom and tomato sausage and you pay for a full breakfast. No professionalism

Best coffee and cake.Also the breakfasts are good too. Working from home then have it delivered. . I wouldn't go anywhere else. Friendly welcoming staff. The whole place has just had a revamp and looks fab. The coffee shop is eco friendly with all its packaging too.Also supports local businesses selling plants which I also buy. I suppose in January or February of this year, the small blackboard in the entrance probably said 'Welcome' if it existed at all; as opposed to 'Wear a mask until seated' or words to that effect.I also suppose that in cold weather like today, the door was closed and it was warm, cosy and taking off your coat inside was normal instead of sitting in our jackets. I daresay coffee was served in a cup or even a mug instead of a take out cardboard cup. They may have even provided a spoon to stir in the milk. I imagine back in those days the coffee shop was a pleasant experience and customers were cherished.

Without a doubt, the best cafe in Hemel Hempstead. Always greeted with a smile, the food is delicious with generous portions and overall there is a warm and friendly atmosphere which completes the perfect meal out. They don't even roll their eyes when I ask for a decaf, soya milk capaccino, they cater for everyone! Hive is also dog friendly so if you fancy taking Fido along he will always be very welcome too. They now offer a delivery service, if you don't have time to nip in yourself. My order arrived within 20 minutes of ordering. You cant get better service than that!

I love Hive coffee shop, the service is great, everyone in the place is very friendly and I get to pet dogs. What more could I ask for? Oh yes! The coffee and the cakes, the cakes are delicious!! I almost forgot Friday night pancakes, I love that they do a late night opening on a Friday night.

Phelps the Staffie's favourite weekend place where he can regularly meet all his doggy friends, get petted by the customers/owners and if he's lucky, lie in the dog bed and munch his Bonio's from the Cafe's 'Bonio Bar'! (His humans love it too, btw!) Yummy food, decent price, what not to like?

I usually attend this cafe while on my break at work. 1 thing that attracts me to this cafe is how friendly the staff are. Always smiling/singing and welcoming. Tea / Coffee great and a nice size for a decent price. Had some of the muffins/cakes which are very delicious and always fresh. Although muffins are sometimes dry as they have been in the fridge area.Haven’t had any food / breakfast so can’t comment on that. However over all a nice little cafe which you can take your pets too and have a chat :)

A hip boutique cafe nestled in the old town of Hemel Hempstead. The atmosphere is perfect for a chilled breakfast/brunch. The staff are so friendly and the food was delicious. The best coffee I have had in the UK. Would fit in perfectly in the Melbourne (Australia) cafe scene.

Used to lunch here when it was the Coffee Cup and can definitely say things are changing for the better! I had a bacon roll which was just perfect- just the right amount of bacon and a beautiful fresh roll at a very reasonable price. The service was friendly and they have made some changes to the set up which makes it seem more spacious. Will definitely be going back.

Just visited the Hive Coffee Shop for lunch with a friend.. we used to go when it was the Coffee Cup.. It has now been taken over & a lot of work has been done to make more space and a better atmosphere in general..plus the staff are very welcoming and are working hard to make this a very special Cafe in the lovely heart of the Old Town in Hemel.The menu is very enticing for a lovely Breakfast..a Scrummy Lunch or try the delicious yummy Cakes.The coffee is blended locally & is very tasty.. I had a Bacon Roll & a Caramel Latte it was very tasty with plenty of very good quality bacon. They do takeaways & open on Fri & Sat night from 7 - 11pm. Good luck with the continued redecoration and will be back for some of the cake. See you soon..
