Had an absolutely amazing visit with a group of friends at the bottomless brunch! The food was lovely and drinks had a wide range of choice, even having a specials list as well as the regular menu. Cannot fault Carla’s service either, she was a gem and really lovely! Would definitely visit again.

The greeting and service were excellent but the food was only okay. It was luke warm and over cooked, a shame as the experience could have been so much better. The value for money should not be reflected in the quality of food and I think that that was the case here.

We turned up after managing to book a table at short notice when everywhere else in the area was fully booked. We arrived and the phrase “country club” made us worry about if there was a dress code. We didn’t have to worry. The outside looked tired and in need of a bit of TLC.When we first arrived, we were told by the staff member at the main entrance that the card machine wasn’t working so we would have to find cash. The staff member didn’t know where the nearest cash machine was.The staff at Rachell’s Restaurant on the other hand were lovely, friendly and welcoming. We were then told the card machine had been fixed so we sat down and ordered. The decor was okay and everything was clean and well presented. We thought we had found a hidden gem.Unfortunately, the food came out after only 5 minutes which set alarm bells ringing. The chips were hard and reheated. The pie was microwaved and soggy and the chicken was overcooked and dry. Presentation was poor, the plates were too small resulting in the food being stacked up. You couldn’t see what you were eating.Anyway, I ate mine because I’ll eat anything and I was starving but the missus couldn’t eat hers (I finished it for her). If the price wasn’t so low (twinned with the eat out to help out discount), we would have complained. When the bill came we were told the card machine was not working again and had to rummage around for the cash.Overall, the venue is tired on the outside, better on the inside. The staff are lovely but a little inexperienced. The food was poor and reheated.Unfortunately, we won’t return.

Mum and I visited last week for afternoon tea. At first, we were located in the restaurant, at the top which was empty and a little cold. We asked Danny if we could be moved to the sofas next to the fire so that we could also bring in our dog from the car. Danny was very happy to move us. We were offered tea or coffee and asked when we would like our prosecco. The prosecco was cold and in a nice small bottle, which is much better than getting a glass of opened prosecco. The sandwiches were brought out on a cake stand, with a wonderfully large selection of fresh beef, ham, prawns, and chicken....wonderful! We were also offered crisps to accompany our sandwiches. Danny asked us to let him know when we were ready for our cakes. Our eyes widened as Danny brought out our cake stand full of cakes. There were warm scones with a jar of jam and clotted cream, and a selection of chocolate fudge cake, toffee cake, carrot cake, Bakewell tart, and another chocolate cake. We had to ask for a takeaway tub to put the cakes in that we were unable to eat. Overall the service was exceptional, thanks to Danny. The afternoon tea was wonderful...the best we have had to date (and we've certainly had a few!), not only because of the food but the service from Danny. We will be back, and would highly recommend it.Sharon, Val & Cassie

Finally managed to find this place after great difficulty as neither the entrance nor the building itself was visible from the road. Waitress later told us they’d ‘forgotten to put the lights on’. Finally found our way in. A dated, empty room devoid of life and atmosphere. We were the only people in. Waiting staff very friendly and polite. I can find nothing positive to say about the food. I ordered a ‘light bite’ version of Scampi and Chips. I can honestly say that this is the first time my food has been served on a tea plate since I was 5. Scampi was overcooked to the point where there was no evidence of any fish. It had probably made a hasty getaway. Chips were soggy and cold. Mushy peas just about made the grade. Even the most inexperienced chef can’t go wrong with a can opener.Hubby and daughter in law had a soggy roast meal. Meat was ok but vegetables looked and tasted as though they had been puréed for a party of toothless pensioners.Son-in-law had a vegetable curry. He didn’t say much except that it was spicy, but I did notice that he left most of it.Desserts limited in choice and small in portions. Our first visit and our last. You can’t dress up mutton as lamb and neither can you call a run down pub a Country Club - not unless you’re prepared to deliver the goods.

We popped in spontaneously on Sunday lunchtime. We had not booked and required gluten free so we weren't expecting much... We couldn't have been more pleasantly suprised! Despite there being a lot of cars in the carpark (always a good sign) they had a table spare and... They also catered for gluten free! The staff couldn't have been more helpful when showing us to our table and explaining they would bring out the gluten free gravy and yorkshires for the carvery! The choice was fantastic and the amount and quality far exceeds what you would get from a chain carvery restaurant... All home cooked and tasty and at a very reasonable price too! We will definately be visiting Hilcote country club again and look forward to trying more of their menu! As a side note, the staff couldn't have been more attentive and really made you feel like you were their number one priority despite the restaurant being busy. Highly highly recommend!

Every week my dad, auntie or myself visit The Hilcote Country Club to fetch my Grandma a take away carvery. Without fail week on week we are met with genuine, polite and well mannered staff. The food is to die for and I would certainly recommend this place to anyone in the area...especially for the Sunday carvery. My Grandma is a full time carer for my Grandad and so doesn’t really cook big meals for herself, this carvery is one of her favourite ‘treats’ and I’m grateful to the team here for putting a huge smile back on her face every week. The portions are huge so they last her 2 days too which is another bonus. This place deserves nothing less than 5 stars for quality, service and everything in between.

Whilst here recently on a Friday evening drank the Chatsworth beer at £3.40 a pint. Was ok but nothing special. On Saturday went to the bar for the same drink and it had gone up to £4.10 overnight. We didn't have any more drinks that evening. Also on Saturday morning had fried egg cobs, the eggs were rock hard and like rubber, inedible...yuck. We had intended to have an evening meal at the place but were put off by the horrible food and overnight inflation on the drinks.

Now I’m not one to complain or write such negative reviews but I only give credit or feedback where due. I have never point blank refused to eat a meal because it was of such poor quality. We were part of a large group for a 60th meal for a Sunday roast which isn’t cheap. Staff upon arrival clearly short on numbers and running round like headless chickens. Maybe not the best idea to keep b ching and moaning in front of customers old or new. First impressions not brilliant. We were put into the room to right of the entry which was light and bright. It’s clearly a popular venue and the queues for the carvery were unacceptably long taking over most the bar area but staff were working hard to reduce this. When we finally got to the front i was shocked to see staff literally dumping the food we were about to eat into the serving containers from old battered looking plastic tubs. It then I first noticed the cauliflower looking grey. This is generally my favourite veg for a roast so I was chuffed to see it being served but gutted that it didn’t look edible. However i along side my daughter and husband started to fill our plates before returning to our table. The few mouthfuls I’d eaten I couldn’t tell what veg I was eating. It had been cooked beyond the point of no return leaving only a taste of water. I dare say none of it has seen salt and pepper in its life either. The Yorkshire pudding although home cooked were like rubber. The meat wasn’t horrendous tasting. Now normally I’d just plough through it and such it up but it was of such poor quality I just couldn’t bare to eat it. My husband will eat anything but he couldn’t even stand to eat the meal and how could I make my daughter eat something we refused to. I spoke with a waitress and informed her but was just told “I’ll tell the kitchen” before scuttling off. Nothing else was said to us. Very disappointment and lucky that we are all too polite to really complain and 25 unhappy customers wouldn’t have looked good. Fortunately for us we won’t be returning and the only recommendation I can make it to stay well away from the carvery!!

The staff are friendly and attentive, they made sure our table was ready before showing us to it and explained everything we needed to know. Even though the place was packed the staff were efficient and service was reasonably swift. The food was amazing, it was possibly one of the best carveries I’ve had for some time. The meat portions were very generous, and the accompaniments cooked perfectly. Well done to everyone there. Thank you and we will be back…..!

Absolutely delighted with the whole experience. I wanted somewhere that would accommodate 25 of us for a Sunday carvery to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. Not an easy thing to book as I found out that all other venues that I tried wouldn't even consider such a large party on a Sunday lunchtime. Despite being extremely busy we were made very welcome by all the staff and were seated in the function room. The food was delicious, probably the best carvery we have ever had . A choice of 4 meats and an abundance of fresh beautifully cooked vegetables. Everyone enjoyed the food and commented on how welcoming and helpful the staff were. Country Club is isn't, average working men's club maybe! Visited last Saturday 15th December 2018 for late lunch on a Groupon Voucher for a two course meal. No restaurant seating merely a large function room with canteen tables, none with place settings. Half hour wait from ordering to delivery of starter [ after chasing request ]. Looked nice but that was as far as I could take it ..... the garlic mushrooms didn't see any garlic until plating when garlic salt was liberally sprinkled over the top of them, rendering them inedible! The garlic bread was barely toasted baguette and a scrape of butter. My wife's fishcake [ stated fishcakes? ] was however ok. We both had fish and chips and wished we hadn't. The batter was soft and mushy inside but it at least covered up the thin grey fish. The bottom of the batter was swimming in fat and was inedible. The chips/wedges were bordering on cremated! Needless to say, most of both mains was left untouched. The on duty manager came to speak to us and whilst confirming he would pass on the comments to the kitchen, failed to offer even the £7 cost of drinks in compensation. I fail to see how this place can attract any favourable reviews on this showing unless the owner has a very large family providing them. One final point, whilst I appreciate the pleasant tone of the waitress, to be continually called 'babe' at 62 is not endearing! I couldn't recommend a single thing about this dire establishment!

We ate in the restaurant which wasn't busy, but the menu was interesting and the food was really lovely. The prices were good value and the waitress was delightful. She couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant. I would recommend this place and wish it well for the future. Taking in the ambiance, above small chatter a melody is heard. Tranquil piano tunes ecco whilst staff work transparent, clearing away to serve 2 tiers of wonderful mouthwatering desserts. Be prepared to have the best sugar rush you have ever experienced. From sticky Bakewell, Chocolate Brownies to small jars filled with jam spread onto a warm scone topped with wonderful clotted cream. No rush is needed, sit back and relax you really won't be able to move after you have polished all the above off. If afternoon tea isn't for you, the menu offers something for all. The Hilcote is an odd venue - a mix of a locals' pub, function rooms and traditional cafe/tea rooms with all three running into each other but each done very well too.We had been before for carvery lunch and to a couple of parties but this was our first time for afternoon tea. We had high hopes after seeing various reviews and posts on FB and the speedy response to my email about our 'fussiness' kept hopes high. These were more than met.Sandwiches were plentiful, delicate and met all of our fussy requirements - good selection of vegetarian sandwiches; separate trays of meat sandwiches with relishes and sauces served alongside. The selection of cakes was very good and the scones were tasty too.Particularly good were the brownies, the carrot cake and a Bakewell inspired cake. Both members of staff were pleasant, welcoming and friendly without being intrusive. The price was very good for the quality and quantity of both savoury and sweet offerings and we will definitely be visiting again.

Called here without a booking and it was almost 2.30pm so we thought we might not get in. It was very busy with people outside on the sunny terrace as well as inside but not only did we get a table they were also very happy to accommodate us. My husband had the carvery whilst I ordered the vegetarian option. Both meals were very good and excellent value for money.

The carvery at Hilcote is so good, 5 meat carvery and a wide variety of vegetables! Vegetarians also catered without any problem- the gravy for veggies is made upon request. A friendly service from all members of staff, they are always on hand to help deal with any enquiries and are generally polite and chatty. The country club itself is undergoing the process of improvement work, and when the final ideas are brought together it will be worth it! A must visit for families!

The meal is always lovely and hot and a good selection of meats and vegetables. They have a new chef and the Yorkshire puddings are home made and not straight from the freezer.

We had a Groupon offer for afternoon tea and went yesterday afternoon. The location is a little off the beaten track but well worth the visit and is in the process of external refurbishment. The entrance leads to the bar area which has a fully stocked bar well served by Dan and included 3 Moody Fox beers which are brewed on the premises. The dining room is nicely set out with a "piano" playing relaxing background music. The excellent service was by Lisa and her staff and we were served with a wonderful display of finger sandwiches with eight different fillings, all of which were freshly made. The display was dressed with salad and included a small pot or horseradish sauce for the beef sandwiches and a another with mayonnaise to compliment the others. The offer included a glass of Prosecco which came with the sandwiches. After a few minutes an equally impressive display of cakes with warm fruit scones was brought to the table with a choice of tea or coffee. The Scones were with options of butter cream and jam. There was a choice for 4 different cakes each which we are sure would satisfy most appetites. We will be recommending and visiting again to try both their afternoon tea and lunch menu, evidently Sunday lunch is very popular.

I visited the hilcote country club with my aunt and uncle to see Rik Gaynors tribute to Elvis Presley. The food was second to none, The staff attentive and prompt and the entertainment was out of this world. 5 stars fully deserved. Negatives....can't even call them that really.....It was cold in there until about 9:30, we had no dessert spoons on the table and there were 2 wedding helium balloons stuck on the ceiling. Like I said you can't even call these negatives. All in all can't wait to return. A true bargain at £14:95 per person.

Top notch event, absolutely brilliant can't find anything negative the food was great the artist was brilliant, he really did well to say there was a table of very rude people talking rather loud whilst he was talking/singing. Will certainly be going back.

Just had the best afternoon tea I've had so far and believe me I've had quite a few, usually there is to much cake and not enough savory, but this platter was superb, with six different types of sandwiches ,as well as scones and clotted cream plus six different types of cake, couldn't eat it all so the owner wrapped it to bring home. The staff were really friendly nd couldn't do enough, the grand piano added to the whole experience, we've eaten here a few times in the eveniNT and the food has always been good, don't expect it to be fast food as its always freshly cooked and not pre packed microwave junk one of the best places to eat out, try it and enjoyÛ

I've tried lots of carvers over the years only to be disappointed with some aspect. the resterant was busy so I will be booking in advance next time. The staff were friendly and smart. The pub is having work done and will be a nice to visit this summer.Great value too.

I have to say that the service is not the best, however, since my first visit it has got alot better! I have only ever visited this restaurant for the sunday carvery, my first experience was not too great because the food was not piping hot, however, I thought that I would try it again a couple of weeks back and it was exceptional! All of the food was piping hot! It is clear that there is a great deal of effort being put in to improve the venue as a whole. Keep up the good work!! A must visit for a fantastic and well priced sunday carvery!

I organised a surprise party for my mum and needed a place for an afternoon for approx 20 people with food etc. I also lived 200 mile away from the venue!Lisa and her team were extremely helpful from start to finish, advising us when we needed help (actually helping to keep the cost down). They were very relaxed and nothing was to much. The food was outstanding!! and all the guests remarked at how good it was.....so much so that most people took doggy bags home for later!!The team were never intrusive but always on hand to help and top up drinks as and when.......all at a price that I would consider very good for what you got.The function room was large enough without being to big but allowed people to spread out where needed,(they also have a much bigger room if needed) and the whole place was kept lovely and warm with a lovely log burning stove in the centre of the room.I want to thank Lisa and Lawrence (and the team) for being so helpful, relaxed and supportive and putting on a brilliant afternoon for my mum and the guests who ALL enjoyed it.

We went here for a carvery which I, as a coeliac always worry that I'll be limited & have no gravy etc. But the Hilcote were great! Firstly the price is so reasonable and you get absolutely loads and it's great value for money. But also they do so much for us coeliacs. They had gluten free gravy, Yorkshire puddings and even stuffing! It was all absolutely delicious and was the first carvery I've had since being diagnosed as a coeliac almost 5 years ago. The staff were all really friendly too. Thankyou. We will be back.

Visited for a family meal. The restaurant itself was nice with the food as you expect at a carvery. There is a small choice of other foods available as well. The price was good and fair. My only reason the rating is average is the bar next to the restaurant is like a local pub where everyone shuts up and looks at you when u walk in, with no room at the bar to get served as all the locals stand by the bar and don't move to let you get served. The drinks were average with the coke and lemonade not quite right but drinkable. The pub/restaurant is in the middle of nowhere and could be very nice but needs a bit of work. On a good point the staff were very friendly and couldn't help enough.

My friend and I went for cream tea today and I must say we where pleasantly surprised, the drive into the car park and the entrance through the bar had me feeling apprehensive, as it looked to be little too rustic but what a pleasant surprise we had when we where shown into the dining room. It was very nice with piano music playing in the background, our cream tea was lovely and the service was excellent with the staff being very attentive. After speaking with the owners it was explained to us that this business is a work in progress which accounted for the unfinished feel but saying that it has great potential and we will definitely be going back.

Came last night with husband and friends. All our food was beautifully presented and more importantly tasted excellent. The restaurant/ conservatory area is not too big so you can actually have a conversation over your meal as it’s not too noisy. Really impressed it’s a welcome change in comparison to some of the other local eateries, will definitely be back.
