Hickory's Smokehouse in Cheshire West and Chester

It was Monday evening. Should I book I thought. You bet. When we arrived a queue was already formed waiting for tables. We were ushered around the front of the building into the semi in/out area for our table which was perfect. From the moment the guy taking us around who engaged with interest to the point we left, this was a great place. The menu had some fantastic choices, service was well paced and with a smile, the system worked well with enough staff to bring your food over and/or drinks. It's a fairly relaxed place down by the river. There is a lovely outdoor seating area with sofas, a main section indoors and a covered section where we were. It is a wooden based building so gives you that American feel to it and the service is along the same lines which I love. When we left people were still queuing and whilst it was the Summer break, for a restaurant on a Monday evening to be this popular you just know it has to be good. Definitely a place to try if you are staying in town and don't want anything too formal. We loved it.

My Fiance and myself visited Hickorys this evening and had a fantastic night. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was fantastic, very generous portions. We would definitely recommend and will be going back again.

Absolutely Amazing ….. from the second we turned 20 minutes early, until the time we left. Bit dubious at first, as recommended by a work colleague…. But boy did this place not disappoint. The staff were absolutely brilliant, especially the Thai waiter saying “Batter” in his best Essex accent lol. Corn dogs for starters, they were pretty good. But then the real food came out, the Sharing Platter, OMG! With a 17 month old little girl not willing to wait 15 minutes, we need not have worried, as Popcorn was waiting already for us Good location, good food, good service !!!!

So today me and my partner went to hickories in Chester for the first time and it was absolutely amazing!!! The food was phenomenal we had the beef rib and the hickories burger and they were outstanding! As well as this the member of staff that served us (Sophie) was so nice and so helpful and we couldn’t have asked for a better staff members to serve us! We had an amazing time and enjoyed the whole experience!! Thankyou Sophie!

We booked Hickory's for our wedding anniversary meal last night, our first time there and won't be our last. We absolutely loved it, the sharing platter was immense and the brisket was just to die for The staff looked after us so well and a very special mention to the lovely young man in our photo, I think his name was Christiano? He went above and beyond to ensure our night was special and it certainly was. He is a real asset to your team, so friendly and knowledgeable. We can't wait to return next time we visit Chester. Firstly I like to consider myself a good cook,so the amount of times i eat out and think I could of cooked better myself,well not this place, absolutely brilliant I loved it, the food was delicious, good and friendly helpful service, great location ,I can not praise it enough, I will definitely eat here again when I re visit Chester it excelled in every way.

Visited with husband and daughter for dinner. We had a great time first visit for us and next time we are in the area will definitely return . Staff were lovely did was great and setting is amazing what more can you want .

We came here last minute with the kids after a long day at Chester Zoo and Googling the place from the car park. We had to wait a while for a table but staff were fantastic and we could see from the number of people waiting it was probably worth the wait - understatement!!Once seated we experienced high class customer service to a USA standard from Jess. We also met the manager, James, who took the time to talk with us about our shared love of the Deep South, teach my kids a game AND show us a magic trick! Oh, and the food and drinks were fantastic! Recommend milkshakes, ice tea and mac & cheese especially. What a fantastic time! 100% recommend

This is a very lively and popular place to eat. And I can see why. There's a mix of indoor/outdoor seating. Indoors it's booths or the more informal high tables. We were given a quiet booth which we really liked.The menu is extensive and everything we ordered was really tasty and came within about 15 minutes. Special shout out to Niall, who really looked after us. We were tucked in a corner but he didn't forget about us and came to see if we needed anything more than once.Cannot fault the food, staff or atmosphere. If we lived in Chester we'd be regulars. As it is we are an hours drive away, and are planning a return visit.I recommend you book a table in advance. There were queues during the day and the evening but we were able to just head straight in.The location is also what makes it special. It's on the banks of the River Dee opposed to in the city centre, which is about 5 mins away.I have to say, we went to the zoo the next day and we overheard another family really raving about it too. Ps. The milkshakes are super thick and very filling and totally worth it.

I often go to Hickoyrs as it’s local and great place for a light bite, but today took the extended family (10 of us) for a huge family meal. Service was as always great, I worry at times there isn’t a wide enough selection on the menu for everyone, but hey, I can be wrong, all got for what they wanted and all really enjoyed food with excellent service. Greet staff, always happy to short any issues and keep the drinks going when needed.

I've always heard great things about this place so had to try it out at the start of our holiday. We were not disappointed as the food here was incredible!!We ordered the full rack of baby back ribs and the pulled pork with sides of frickles and burnt ends. Our servers were really friendly too.One hint for parking - we drove around for ages then finally managed to find parking at the military museum for £5 for all day which was a 5min walk.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the service, food and drinks were second to none. Absolutely everything we had, we would have again. The only downside to this restaurant is that we don't live nearby to enjoy it more often.Thank you to everyone for a fantastic evening xx

Being gluten free (coeliacs) We are very picky on where we go. The thought of being glutened petrifies me. We went for our mini moon Chester and visited Hickorys for a meal. Everything was just so easily no fussing it was just so natural. They didn’t make me feel special for ordering off a special menu it felt just normal. The meal was fantastic with the added bonus of a Daura (GF BEER) there is literally nothing I could fault. To all my fellow coeliacs I would recommend this place.

Fantastic service, the best we have had anywhere! It was my Husband’s birthday and they treated us like royalty. James and Molly were especially amazing but all the staff were friendly and relaxed. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was brilliant. We felt welcomed, relaxed and looked after - thank you so much for such a special evening. We can’t stop talking about how fabulous it was

Food was sensational and the soda drinks were so refreshing. Sam J went above and beyond to make our experience a great one, was full of energy and attentiveness which was especially impressive as today was hotter than the Sahara! Several other members of staff were really friendly and wished us a nice day on our way out; definitely going back

Wow ! This place is unreal. To start with the service is excellent. Visited the Chester restaurant. We ordered the platter for 2 and there was so much food. But the quality of food was exceptional. Every mouthful was tender and tasty. My son eats very little but he polished off an 18oz steak and chips, no problem. Daughter and son-in-law both said this is the best meal they’ve ever had. We’ve been to America many a times, but this blows American food out of the water. Definitely be back.

Been to the West Kirby Hickorys s so we knew what to expect. Service was great and the food fantastic. We had a platter for one and a couple of sides which was plenty - great advice from Summer our server. You would be seriously full if you had the platter for two. Service was brilliant and when you throw in some good music it makes for a great experience. Will be visiting Southport Hickorys which is nearer to home.

Came here for a meal with my partner, needless to say that the food was incredible. Practically perfect. The restaurant was really busy, imaginable with the glorious weather. Molly H I believe that’s what her name was, that’s what it said on our receipt. The lovely waitress with brown hair and glasses was exceptional, very witty and well mannered! 10/10! The only tiny issue we had was that when we were eating, we were asked about 6/7 times by different managers, different staff if everything was ok. I work in hospitality myself, so I know when it’s busy it’s hard to keep track of who needs what sometimes. It just got a little frustrating when we were trying to enjoy our food and each other’s company. Other than that, absolutely great. Will definitely be back! Thank you!

There is no finer hospitality venue in the North West (let alone Chester) that can cater for every need better than Hickory's. On our most recent visit, Izzy and Mollie were superb in looking after our wholle table and entertained our 2 year old throughout the evening. Hickory's never fails to deliver in offering superb Southern cuisine, sports entertainment in a venue that feels comfortable for work, friends or professional gatherings. We can not wait to return.

From the moment I walked in to hickory's I knew it was going to be a good experience. I greeted by the most friendliest of waiters called Henry who made my visit the most welcoming especially being a lone diner. Perusing the menu was so hard for the choices were the most enticing dishes you could wish for. I decided for the corn dogs to start and once they arrived I knew I made the right decision for a place to eat. They were so flavourful and appetising starter I could wish for. Then to follow I went for the beef rib. This completely fell apart and glistened under the light. It came with this Tennessee bourbon gravy that just enhanced the flavour and was great for dipping the fries into. I am really tempted to book a week's holiday to Chester and come here every day to sample what other delights they have to offer.

We haven’t been to Hickory’s for a little while, pandemic not withstanding, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. With the current circumstances we were slightly nervous, but the new extension was light and airy and was a great place to sit. The service was very good and attentive when necessary. The food we all had was very good and we enjoyed our choices, including the side dishes. The Hickory’s ale is a great addition. As a footnote the coffee was also very tasty.

Get the Frickles! Then get more Frickles! It was our first time at Hickory’s and we were really impressed. Friendly staff, great place and fantastic food and drinks.We had Frickles, Mini Corn Dogs and Popcorn Brisket. All were really good but the Frickles are definitely the stand out. Amazing. We got a big sharing platter, a burger and a basket of fried chicken for mains. Way too much food, we really struggled. It was all really good and well cooked but we left so much. They did package it up for us to take away.Drinks were really good. The house made Grape Soda with Vanilla Vodka was a stand out for me. Sweet but really good. We had a great night and can’t wait to come back!

Came here for lunch with my partner on Wednesday 7th July.I booked a couple of weeks in advance requesting a private booth. When we turned up we were sat in a busy conservatory area.The diners next to us were talking so loud my partner and I couldn’t hear each other speak.When the food arrived my chips looked like the scrapings off the bottom of the fryer. Dried up and a little greasy.The dessert we ordered churros which were overcooked and crunchyOverall a poor show

We had a great meal here, delicious food, well worth waiting in the queue for a table. Special thanks must go to our Server Georgina, who went above and beyond to assist us as we were first time visitors to Hickorys. Her menu recommendations were much appreciated, and highly appreciated.

We visited Hickorys Smokehouse last month to celebrate my daughter's 25th Birthday. We booked well in advance as we were travelling up from Bristol. What a wonderful visit - the food was lovely and the staff and service were great. We had a baby and a dog with us and the staff were so welcoming. Lovely to be able to sit outside and be inside and undercover as well. Will definitely return when visiting Chester again and would highly recommend!

We booked a table for 2, turned up 10 mins early and got seated, the waitress, Isabelle was the nicest and friendliest waitress I've ever had, nothing was too much for her and she was so lovely, she even got the wife a plaster for her foot as her shoes were rubbing her, we had the burnt ends to start the the sharing platter as a main, the food was top quality and came very quick, couldn't fault service or speed.. lovely night out, 100% recommend

01/07/21 in the afternoon . Queued in a line where the restaurant was to ask if we could just come in for a afternoon drink , the girl took us to the other side where there was indoor and outdoor seating we chose outside .After 20 minutes of waiting and trying to get the attention of various staff we left “ that’s how it was “ . Poor poor poor IMO !!!!

We had an amazing meal at Hickory's during our recent stay in Chester. I would certainly recommend booking well in advance. We booked for a Tuesday night a week in advance and there was only availability for 9pm, which tells you how popular Hickory's is. There was also a long queue outside for lunch when we walked past in the day. The service was great and the food was fantastic. We had two Biscoff milkshakes with a shot of Jack Daniels, they were huge and very filling but absolutely wonderful. For mains I had the chicken burger with chilli fries - wow, what a treat. My partner had the platter for one which had an array of different meats and he loved it. Huge portion sizes so make sure you go with an empty belly!

The HoHo Bus stopped just across the road from Hickory’s which was ideal for us. We shared the large rack of ribs, fries with dust, & coleslaw:-)’’ Thanks to our server David Smith who recommended the best meal that we had whilst in Chester. Great location by the river, good atmosphere.

Arrived in Chester for a short break during the Euro 20 in 21. Asked for a table with a view of a tv on Monday for the England v Germany game and we managed to get one.Arrived Tuesday. We had the bench around the kitchen area with two screens to pick from. The service was excellent, checking if we needed anything very regular. The food was absolutely amazing, the pulled pork was very tender and tasty.I cannot fault my meal and time at the Hickory, staff were very friendly and lovely food. I would visit again when in Chester.Thank you everyone for a great night.

Visited yesterday while in Chester and everything was perfect.I had the beef sub and then the cookie sandwich which were both gorgeous.Service excellent,lots to choose from on the menu and a beautiful location.Will definitely visit again.

We dined here for an early dinner while on a quick visit to Chester. The restaurant is located next to the river where the tourist boats take off from and there is plenty of parking nearby in the NCP. We hadnt eaten in a Hickorys before but both are fans of this type of food. Menu is large, as is the drinks/cocktail one. We ordered the 2 person platter (£45) which was lovely but make sure you are hungry! Almost everything in the platter was great, apart from the brisket which was very very fatty. Service was a little disappointing. Plenty of staff on duty, but a lot standing outside chatting. Would still return though.

I came in on my own with my 2 small dogs and was really looked after. All the staff were so friendly and talked to me.They brought me some of the brisket which my dogs really enjoyed.Food was good and nice blues music.I have been to the USA many times and think the atmosphere here is very authentic.I will come again and loved my experience. So I’m on holiday from Cambridgeshire and what an amazing last meal before heading home…The staff and mangers was so lovely and friendly, got a real feel for an American grill place would be like with the music, staff uniforms and the whole restaurant atmosphere.my dad has a msg and can be in the food such as gravy and sauces and the managers was so great with this as they double checked everything my dad had to make sure it wasn’t in it even in the pudding which was unlikely.The food was out of this world ! Some of the best food I had and what my family had was all great. The steak was so good my dad said it was better then the savoy, when he told the manger he was so please he brought all the chef a beer, must be such a lovely place to work.

My second time here, and the food was amazing.Cannot wait to return.Glad I had booked as there was a queue outside waiting for empty tables.Came for brunch for a friend's birthday who has really fussy taste in food, but she did enjoy the southern fried chicken burger, and very filling she said.Me being me (loves picky foods) and because it was lunch time went for 2 appetisers , nachos with salsa and the burnt brisket popcorn bites....wow.. they were amazing.Then we we both had a fro-co for dessert, myself the cherry pie and my friebd the honeycomb, let's just say she inhaled hers withing seconds ha. Very nice all round

Looked like a nice place to sit outside, have a pint and a cigarette. But was told on entry all outside areas were non smoking. So went elsewhere. I have no problem with designated smoking areas and the indoor ban but requiring that you leave the premises when outdoor space is plentiful is a step too far.

The food and drink at hickorys was absolutely fantastic and the staff were also brilliant. I highly reccomend the hickorys pale ale and also the baby back ribs.

The starters were ok The mains were ok The drinks were ok The service was ok But thats the problem everything was just ok .If the management put in a little more effort , and stopped trying to be too cool for school .It could be a better experience.

We were staying in Chester at the end of a road trip and had recommendations to eat at Hickory’s. Big mistake as it was Fathers Day but had booked weeks ahead without making that connection. Terribly disorganised at the entrance with queues in both directions and no signs to indicate where to go. It turned out that some people were queuing and hadn’t got a reservation whilst others were waiting for their table that they had reserved. Service was rather frenetic and hurried and not a terribly relaxing meal. The food was very good, steak very tender and tasty. Pulled pork good, as was the chocolate fudge cake. Didn’t bother to wait for coffee as we felt rather on edge with all the rushing around and organised chaos. Might go back, but perhaps midweek next time!

We had yet another fantastic meal at Hickory's Chester tonight, it never disappoints. Special thank you to Beth for being so kind throughout our meal and for making my end of exams celebration really special Hickory's is our favourite place in Chester.

Sooooo nice , I love the burgers the ambience the staff , the cocktails , everything , the prices are average but worth every penny ! Thee desserts are gorgeous, I love this place

Wife and I went to this restraunt few days ago, ordered 2 coffee lattes, ghastly taste, told the manager, he admitted the milk had gone sour but it was in date, which left me asking questions about their refrigeration which was concerning, Didn't offer us any sort of compensation, so we just left and felt sick most of the day

When we arrived the staff were friendly and took us to our table, as soon as we sat down we were asked if we wanted any drinks to start which rarely happens in most places. I have no other words for the food except that it was exceptional and delicious, it didn’t take long to arrive which was great. The staff were amazing with everyone and were on top of everything.

We had a good meal - my steak was a little dry and chewy but the rest of the family enjoyed their meals and the kids loved the colouring. A little pricey but a good family place to eat.

Hickorys is one of my favourite places to go in Chester. However, this time was a bit of a let down. Me and a friend booked a table, and were seated promptly. Unfortunately, I don't believe we were assigned a member of waiting staff. We didn't get the usual bag of popcorn like those around us and it took us about half an hour to get served after catching the attention of someone passing. When the food came, I was given the wrong meal. Thankfully, this was fixed really quickly and the manager did come over to apologise as well as removing this from the bill. I was really thankful, but the service didn't get better after this. Over an hour passed after we finished our main course and no one came anywhere near us. Eventually, despite Covid rules, we had to get up to pay the bill at the desk on the way out. It is a shame as everyone around us seemed to be getting very personal and high standard service. The food, as always, was top class though.

We had high hopes for this meal. The meals were a decent size and most were ok. The drinks were delicious- especially the peach ice tea. We just expected more.

Came her for my 40th last Friday, this is our favourite place to eat in Chester. We were spoiled from the start, great service, fantastic food and lovely cocktails... A BIG shout out to Leighton a massive asset to your team (even though he's a UTD fan) lol all the best in your studies. All in all fantastic! The food was amazing just a note book as far in advance as you can. But the staff were lovely and atmosphere was brilliant .

We booked in advance for celebrate my partners birthday(recommend booking as it's usually busy).The place is very clean and looks amazing, staff are wonderful, so friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious and delivered to us so quickly. Drinks are amazing and so refreshing, we especially recommend The Grasshopper and Watermelon Sugar.Thank you for a lovely time!

We ate here on our first night in Chester and it was amazing. We hadn't booked but after a short wait we were seated outside. It was a very hot June afternoon, and we actually felt like we were abroad. The restaurant is located next to the river and it had a really lovely chilled atmosphere. The service was top notch- you couldn't ask for better. Friendly and attentive, the staff obviously care about what they are doing and it really does make Hickory's stand out. The food was superb. They offer an extensive menu full of unusual dishes. I had the steak with a stilton topping and it was sooo good. If we ever visit Chester again we will make sure that we visit Hickory's again - superb all round. Thank you

Been there with my friends. Requested an special table as my friends were visiting for the first time. Food was okay but the atmosphere was amazing. Good choices of music. There was football match was going on the provided screen, was a good idea to scape from any conversation that’s going on on the dinner table. Among 4 of us, it was decided that the slow cooked 8 hours smoked Ribs was the best choice to order there. Overall, would love to visit again.

We visited Hickory’s after a lovely trip along the River Dee. We were already excited after viewing the menu online and it didn’t disappoint! The beef burnt ends were to die for! Fantastic food and fantastic service!

As always hickory’s was fab! We went on a very hot June evening and avoided the queue by booking weeks in advance, showed straight to the table, served quickly always with a smile and even had a pack of colouring for the kids!! Food was great and we were in and out in an hour! Perfect family restaurant! Always our go to when in Chester!

Terrific American-style food in a nice setting right on the river. This place is just a five minute walk away from the shops & bustle of the city centre but it feels miles away. All of our party enjoyed their food. The smoked meats are a treat, the pulled pork was as good as you would get in the states. We were lucky enough to be served by Jess F so the service was prompt, efficient & friendly. The marshmallow dessert is spectacular & the churros were very good. The Hickory Pale Ale by Purity Brewing is also highly recommended.

We absolutely loved it here - think steak, ribs, fahitas and nachos. Great booths for eating inside and the staff are really friendly and welcoming. The marshmallow dessert was just brilliant. We had a great meal here - queues out of the door all the time so worth booking in advance

Popped in for a quick drink this afternoon and had an amazing time. It was pretty busy but the staff found a table for us outside over looking the river. Kind of wish we’d also been eating as the food coming out looked amazing. All the staff we met were fantastic - no hanging around waiting to be served once we were at the table despite a sunny day and being busy. James was amazing with the kids and taught them a magic card trick. If he won then the kids had to go round all the other staff to tell them that ‘James was the best’ :). He won and the kids fulfilled their forfeit. It was fantastic and it’s the moments like this that really make a holiday for the kids. It may have seemed a small thing but they’ll remember this long into the future. Thanks to you all....and of course James - you were the best and made our day :)

Hickorys is our favourite venue, birthdays, brunch, the food and service is always great. We visited again last week and sat outside in the new seating area, usually have the beef burger but chose Mac and cheese and it was incred. Hickorys nail it every time!

We read the reviews and though it was worth a look, but in reality it was even better. The staff were all really nice and took time to welcome you and chat about what was in the menu. We just had chicken wings as a starter but the portions were generous and the glazed sauce was just incredible. We had a couple of steaks as the mains meal and again these were a fair old size and cooked to perfection especially with the pot of glazed sauce we had left over from the starter... delicious. This is just one of those places that you rarely find where the staff have just got it right, the food is amazing and the prices were very reasonable. Well done guys, you really did a great job for us. As a side note it was quite busy when we turned up and although there was a queue at the front, the staff came outside to check if we had booked, what we wanted and did everything to look after us and get us in and comfortable. Once again, top job and we will be back.

We visited yesterday, myself and my husband. We only wanted to have drinks so after waiting in a small queue, we got taken to the outside seating area. Whilst waiting in the queue we were offered a cup of ice cold water, which was a lovely touch and very thoughtful of Hickory’s. We spent most of the afternoon there, drinking a mixture of cocktails, beers and coffee liqueurs, all the drinks were delicious! What made the experience so great is the staff, especially Paul who served us. He was very attentive and we were able to have laugh with him. It’s nice to be made to feel so welcome and looked after. Thank you again. We will be back soon and this time to get some of your amazing food!

Came here on Sunday 23rd May as a table of two for lunch. Ribs and sides were absolutely delicious and my friend also found their chicken and waffles to be superb. Service was prompt and friendly and cocktails were delicious too. Couldn’t fault anything. Would definitely return if I went back to Chester!

I had a lovely date there. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. Staff were extremely nice, Rita was especially lovely and really made our experience one to remember. She gave us great recommendations for drinks and solved an issue we had very fast. She went above and beyond.

Wow - amazing food, perfect setting and location and food was incredible!! We have experienced a lot of poor service during our trip to Chester but this restaurants service was impeccable!! We hadn’t booked a table but they managed to sit us within minutes .. all staff were clearly on it and made sure all customers were being looked after and having a great experience! Clearly a well oiled machine!! The food was also amazing - quick service for saying how busy they were and so tasty! Highly recommend the beef brisket sub!! Definitely recommend visiting here if you’re in the area great restaurant!! And also has a lovely view of the river too!

I booked this restaurant a few months in advance for a family meal. We telephoned and asked to be seated inside due to very windy weather and the person on the phone was absolutely lovely and understanding and explained this was no problem. The food was very hot . Fresh and highly delicious. I ordered the 3 am Mac and was not disappointed I’m already thinking of coming back soon for another dish !. Every single staff member was very friendly and accommodating and made the whole experience. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough not only is the food amazing and the service but the location is beautiful !!

Great food, great staff could not fault. From the minute we arrived all the staff were constantly friendly and helpful. The food arrive quickly and was so nice, will definitely be visiting a Hickory’s again when close by.

Lovely setting and nice staff but the food, which is what you go to a restaurant for, WHAT A LET DOWN. I took the 3am Mac - Macaroni tasted like the stuff out of a packed and the 2 tiny pieces of southern fried chicken were so salty the best thing about my lunch was the grape soda. Hubby had the Texas Style Brisket, a good portion, but a portion of dry meat. Not a place we will be going back to

I was refused entry regarding my ‘outfit’ for the day after travelling all the way from London for dinner with my wife. 2 months later we decided to try again, (I’m wearing the same outfit as the last time) we have been allowed in which clearly shows a problem. As a person of colour I feel I could’ve been racially profiled but I would not like to accuse anyone, the way I was made feel however wasn’t acceptable. On my second visit our waitress was really nice, although based on our previous experience we can only give one star. Thank you.

We have been coming for about 10 years and it’s just gets better! I’ve been with family, friends & my partner and everyone always thinks it’s fantastic. On their re-opening week for outside eating, I dined with them 3 times and the standard of food each time was spot on. I’ve tried most things on the menu and usually go for the hickory’s burger but opted for the beef brisket as I’ve never had it, great choice! My brother & partner shared the smokehouse platter, huge portion, lots of variety and they just about finished it. The portions was massive and the beef was really juicy and the bourbon sauce delectable. The staff are always accommodating, friendly and always have time for a chat. The food and drink is very reasonable priced and it’s such a great spot looking out at the river. See you again soon

We initially came across this whilst walking along the river on a very wet and windy Thursday, we called in for drinks and then booked for later in the day for dinner. Both experiences were very good, extremely friendly staff, very quick service and a lovely buzz around the establishment, the food was lovely, we had pulled pork nachos to start and shared this, it was really tasty, then for main we both had a Texan smoked brisket, this was again gorgeous, the bourbon sauce was a wonderful addition. If brisket is cooked well it should break up and melt in the mouth which is what this did, the coleslaw and fries were also great, I wasn’t sure about the pickle that was served with it, but did eat the whole pickle, I think something warm would have been a nice addition instead of cold onions and gherkin. But that really is a small personal niggle and doesn’t reflect on the quality of the food. We ate at Hickory’s tonight on the second night of indoor reopening and it was exactly the experience that you would of wanted for a long awaited meal out!I made sure I booked well in advance as I know how popular the restaurant is and it was my partners birthday!Our server Maddie could not have done enough for us! We have been plenty of times in the past but she was on hand to provide recommendations and checked in often to make sure we had everything we needed. I always recommend to others, perfect food and service every time! Thankyou x

Myself and my partner had rang for around a week before our visit trying to get a table. They informed us on the voicemail that table bookings are only online 1 day before. We attempted from 7am every hour to book a table but unfortunately it did not allow us to book for 2 people. I rang again and was told that there will be plenty of tables for walk ins and just to turn up. We did this. I appreciate the fact it was raining and staff were having to work in the rain which isn't very nice for them but we were told that they were fully booked. When questioning about the phone saying walk ins we were told yes we take walk ins but we are booked out for walk ins tonight. This was disappointing as how could they know that they were booked up for walk ins? It was clear they just didn't want anymore custom. We would've completely understood if they said that due to the weather they are not taking walk ins but to pretend that they were booked up all night for walk ins just seems ridiculous. Staff were not customer friendly at all.

Very extremely average.As a group of friends, we’ve been to poynton hickories before and was extremely Impressed. This time in Chester the food was really not impressing us. The chicken and corn dogs to start were nice enough. The nachos were nothing to write home about, no real cheese it was just a bit bland. 3 of us got the hickories burger which was just very basic, was about the same as McDonald’s. My friend got the beef brisket, it was the worst driest blandest meat. She left it so I tried it and it tasted awful. It was just on the whole pretty boring and bland. Underwhelming.

Couldn’t fault this BBQ lunch. We sat outside and enjoyed people watching and the sun. My daughter is gluten free and this was probably the best GF menu we have seen for a long time. We ordered the sharing plate and got extra Bourbon glazed chicken to replace the sausage which contains gluten. This was a great decision as they are the tastiest wings I’ve had. A very fussy eater was also catered for with a plain cheese burger and veg sticks. All washed down with a mega milk shake and water melon sugar drink. Only complaint is we had no room for the desserts ... GF waffles!! Booking is advised.

We managed to get a table while on a break away in North Wales. The restaurant was recommended to us from the hotel we were staying at. The menu is amazing and the burgers were delicious. All the staff were so helpful and friendly. Will be back and recommending to friends who are coming down in a few weeks.

We had a wonderful afternoon in the sun at Hickory's. Everything felt very COVID safe. Service was excellent, the best organised I have experienced since pubs/restaurants were allowed to re-open. The food was, as ever, plentiful, tasty and a lot of fun. Thanks Hickory's!

Had a table booked for myself and 2 friends, the whole experience was very well organised by the staff, who were all helpful and friendly. My friends who were drinking loved the drinks menu!I found the chicken burger too salty, I am the sort though who never has salt on anything so the taste stands out to me, the staff were really good though, offered me another meal (I went for a pudding!!) Have visited various Hickory's Smokehouse since the very early days in Chester and will continue to do so.

As a group of girls visiting a restaurant, sometimes a waitress can be perceived as somewhat standoffish however, Maddie welcomed us and felt like one of the girls! She was lovely and made our experience that much better, being our first night out after covid for a meal, we are truly impressed!

I tried to book here and was unable to do so as there system crashed. I constancted them and was told they always have a walk in service available and never fully book online so just come and visit I later explained to them that the person I was visiting with suffered from a severe nut allergy so could they please confirm that a table would be available as we can not just walk in anywhere due to this. They then told me for the second time that there are always walk ins available so I trusted this and went to the restaurant. I later got there to be told that they had decided that day to let people book all tables leaving no walk ins. This then ment we were unable to eat anywhere and had to travel home. The staff were so rude and not helpful and just blamed each other for the issue which was highly unpressoinal. I then asked for there names to a write a complaint which they told me they wouldn’t give me as they did nothing wrong and proceeded to laugh in my face. Absolutely awful experience with awful staff I will never be visiting here again.

Amazing staff very helpful and polite fantastic service food and drinks, We were seated in a little booth with pillows set up for our 19 month old son it was just perfect with heaters.. can’t praise the staff enough Can’t remember the names but the females were just lovely and the bold guy had a 10 minute chat lovely chap.. The food was unreal we have the platter and the Heineken was a lovely pint.. see you all soon. Daniel, charlotte and littel eddie x

We had an amazing time here on a lovley busy Saturday day in the sun, Ell was amazing throughout! And for her first day working here you would have thought she's worked here for a while, thank you Ell for your hospitality! Food and drinks were amazing also! Really recommend This place 100%

Excellent staff. Maddie was particularly lovely, asked what we needed and were provided with everything we asked and needed. Felt comfortable. She was quick and nothing was too much trouble! Lovely staff member!

We chose Hickory’s because they had outside eating with heaters to accommodate for lockdown. We had lovely coffee and hot chocolate and chose a selection of deserts to go with them. This was a treat for my daughters and grandchildren and it’s was so enjoyable we booked to go back.

Just before yet another lockdown we decided to have a last supper!I've always been a little unsure about if I like Hickory's but it is definitely growing on me.The Mississippi Mule cocktail was amazing, that I had to have two of them (just to be sure of course).The Salsa Nacho's were lovely and so was the rump steak (and I eat steak a lot) so for it to be good from NOT a steak house is good.The service was really good, and the restaurant had clearly thought about social distancing and face mask wearing.Although not my favorite restaurant it is in the top 20 and the price was really good - its always the booze that increases the bill.

Ordered the Hickorys at home family platter, the order process & delivery was so easy, nice to see a local business adapting well to the current restrictions. On the whole the food was exceptional, with a wide variety and easy to follow instructions ( & soundtrack) but I have to say we were disappointed with the meat, Brisket was tasty, but very fatty, probably as much as 50% fat. I'm guessing during normal times this would have rendered down during a long cooking period, but not so much now. The ribs also under par, again very tasty, but hardly any meat on the bone. I've eaten at Hickorys many times and always enjoyed it, and I'll certainly eat there again, just a shame they fell below expectations on this one occasion.

Perfect. Ordered online for Super Bowl Sunday. Able to choose a delivery day which was ideal and the food came vat packed with great instructions to cook. The only downside is I didn’t order more!! Now need to wait for lockdown to finish and drive the 3 hours to eat in the restaurant. Great job guys.

Waiters dressed trendy and made a big fuss with the kids and where very happy doing their jobs. It’s a cool place to get some Top American food

Ordered Hickory's at Home for new year's eve. It came on time, well packaged and with clear and easy instructions for heating. The end result was delicious and great value for money in terms of quantity. Well done Hickory's for adapting to the current situation.

We ate here last night, having booked on line a couple of weeks ago.A nice welcome, drink orders taken promptly, complimentary water and popcorn a nice touch.We both ordered the rump steak which was cooked perfectly and was so tasty.Prices on the higher side, but sometimes you get what you pay for and it’s worth it.There was a good atmosphere which was nice in the current climate.The restaurant was busy but the service was great. Our main waitress (Maddy, I think) was especially friendly.Definitely eat here again when next in Chester.
