Hickelty pickelty in South Lanarkshire

Excellent place for a bite to eat, it's one of the few places I have been where the chefs can actually cook poached eggs, they were superb. Service was quick, polite and done with a smile. The whole place was clean, tidy and welcoming. Definitely worth more than a five star review.

Food lovley staff very pleasant can be a bit noisy. Well worth going to but would recommend booking .

Hubby had a sandwich and I went for cake and coffee. Place looks nice but food was just OK. I guess I expected a bit more from a place with "tea room" in its name. Nothing bad though. It was just simply ok.

First time to this small cafe but it will not be the last. Good freshly prepared food. Selection of salads, sandwiches and light lunch- just missed the breakfast menu but it sounded interesting. Fresh smoothies with bags of flavour, scones that had flavour and texture and a nice cup of coffee. Toilets immaculate. Good parking. What more do you need.

First time there food was delicious and staff were lovely will definitely be back there 😋

Found this tea room on a trip to Scotland, a very clean and welcoming establishment, food excellent.

We initially went to the Cafe and were turned away as we did not have a reservation and we had a large group, so this was understandable. We were able to book tables for the next day and we enjoyed our meals. We tried to book again for the following week by sending a message on the facebook page but didn't receive a reply, so this is my only complaint. Lovely atmosphere and the staff were very friendly.

We were here last weekend and the food was exquisite and the home made pesto so vibrant and flavourfull. Nachos tasty and so fresh. Of course I must add the cake...walnut and Carrot...we shared a slice between us....but should have had one each...it was moist, tasty, sweet but not too sweet, just amazing. The staff were so obliging and clearly work well together. Fabulous setting and tea room decor is so perfect. Loved the recycling and re-loving sentiment in the entrance hall encouraging exchange of books. If I could give this more than 5 star I wouldn't hesitate. It will be our detour home to Edinburgh from Dumfries from now on.... Thanks to all.

Oh wow staff were so friendly. The restaurant was spotless. The prices were so competitive. Food was top class and plenty of it. Coffee was absolutely delicious. Please everyone go try this for yourselves. You will not be disappointed. A will be back.

Lunch stop with a guest from the US. Soup and a sandwich, homemade tomatoe soup was amazing together wuth a lovely fresh sandwich with salad, coleslaw and crisps. The food did not disdapoint, it was lovely.

Cannot belive I live so close and have taken so long to visit. The tea room is welcoming and cosy.... despite the cavernous ceiling! The staff are friendly and attentive. Menu is not vast and that is a good thing. Specials on the board with a choice of soup. Soup servings were plentiful with big bits of bread! We both chose the special and can I just say the prawn cocktail was tasty and never ending. Had to help finish ! The ciabatta with pastrami, gherkins and Jack cheese was really tasty. Served with just enough salad and crips, and just the right amount of coleslaw. Yummy. I would say it was good value, sure don't think I need any dinner now.... my 1st visit won't be my last and noticed a few Happy Alice wax melts available to purchase too - fun!

Great tea room in the middle of nowhere, so you need a car to get here. Good selection of food and specials, freshly prepared and very tasty, served by very attentive and polite staff. Well worth a visit, but try to book ahead, as it can be busy and very annoying if you drive out there and can't get a table.

Glad we came across this wee cafe, we hadn't booked but staff were nice and and found us a seat, they were all very friendly, the soup and sandwiches we had were lovely. We had our 10 month old with us, the staff were so good and kept coming up and talking to her, she loved her soup too.

I’m sure this place is wonderful for food, however, my husband & I didn’t get that far. After passing the the place on the way to Lanark, we decided to try it the next day. We arrived & were greeted at the door by a young lad who when addressing us, I had to ask him to speak up. He then repeated himself asking if we had a booking. We unfortunately did not have a booking but didn’t think this would be an issue as there were lots of empty tables. However, we were turned away as we didn’t have a booking. When asked how we could book we were given a small card with their phone number on it (which didn’t say bookings were advised). I then checked for a website but there was only a Facebook- again when checking this, nowhere did it state we needed to book. Very disappointed- especially since this is a tearoom at the side of a country road. Would never expect having to book ahead for somewhere that looks like you can just ‘drop in’.

THEY REFUSED TO ACCOMMODATE A SIMPLE DIETARY REQUEST - AVOID My partner and I have been regular ‘breakfast’ visitors of this cafe and up until recently we had no problems. The food was always decent and the young service staff have been pleasant. However lunch is a different story! We had booked during the week and arrived to no booking surprisingly (someone not doing their job correctly). Anyway we where quickly seated in a half empty restaurant after being intimidated about wearing a mask - Regardless of our disability (The owners ask young staff to do their dirty work, I could see the female owner or manger spotting me when I came in while she was standing doing nothing and she instructed a young member of staff to pull us up) Anyway I noticed most tables had their food at their tables which I noted to gauge how long food could potentially take. We looked over the menu and my partner choose the BLT sandwich (bread, bacon, lettuce & tomato) HOWEVER we where advised because the items of this item where breakfast items the chef couldn’t make it. We turned to the lunch page of the menu and where gobsmacked to see lots of items with BACON!!!! Anyway I then ordered the Sautéed mushrooms and asked for a side of potato scone. That too couldn’t be done because the chef is incapable of frying a potato scone for 2 minutes on a frying pan he has in front of him. I looked around and thought to myself ‘this is the most unaccommodating experience I have ever had in a restaurant.’ If it’s not on the menu and requested in the exact format in which it has been written, THEN THEY ARE NOT DOING IT. Overall terrible. To top it off my partner said something to me about the place (nothing directed to any of the staff or anyone other human in the place) and the owner decided to ask us to leave. Clearly has a chip on her shoulder. Even without this experience the place is going to pot. They use young staff to pay low wages and they never do anything for their customers. They set up tables with menus on them for bookings which don’t come for hours and they refuse walk ins when clearly there is empty tables. Luckily for them they don’t have any competition in the area because they would quickly go out of business if they did and no doubt would revert back to a customer focussed service when it started to fail. These places are laughable. Full of their own importance and no consideration for their customer as long as they are getting your money. NEW LANARK WORLD HERITAGE SITE CAFE WOULD BE MY SUGGESTION IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEWHERE GOOD TO EAT LOCALLY

Burger was lovely, quite big portions, and staff were amazing. One of the guys, didn't get his name was excellent, especially me having anxiety. We were out for my gran and grampas anniversary who are elderly, excellent wee place. Quite unusual menu, nice all the same. We had a mishap with juice, was quickly sorted by staff with no fuss. Spacious for wheelchair and toilet were super and clean. Well done guys ❤

Lovley greetings front of house They where fully booked but manage to fit us in for a cuppa and toastie outside in the garden Then the clouds came but the staff made up for it 👍 Would recommend booking that's what I will be doing Must be family run buiseness as all the certificates on wall has alot of same surname and a great job they are doing Stay safe and is worth a visit

Just been for afternoon tea with my daughter, absolutely lovely, plenty to eat, bottom of tired plate was a wee cup of homemade mushroom soup and a wee bowl of veg crisps 2nd layer x3 finger sandwiches, 3rd layer a wee slice of quiche and a bit of toast with pate top layer a wee mint areo cheesecake, a choc orange brownie, a piece of tiffin a piece of lemon drizzle cake and a warm scone with jam and clotted cream NB all cakes are small comes with a cup of tea, 80p extra for cappuccino or hot chocolate, interior and toilets of a high spec finish, remember to book for afternoon tea though this is a busy tearoom, well worth a visit.

Enjoyed our quick lunch. Pate was pleasant, creamed mushrooms on toast - 'nice'. Pleasant surroundings and staff. Just a little something lacking to be really good.

Was there with friends for high tea yesterday which was lovely although when booked requested downstairs but put upstairs.? Cakes bit disappointing we never ate any. And was surprised when told you have to pay for coffee and any additional coffees or Tea. At the price it should have been included. Have had many high teas and never once paid for these So maybe a wee think on this!! 🤔

This is a delightful place, a beautifully decorated barn in a rural location. The food was delicious I can recommend the warm chicken salad, fab. You also get a great cuppa too
