Delicious food with nice ambient vibe. Staff was very friendly and respectful. Eel was excellent the meat was melting inside of my mouth. Prawns were delicious as well. I highly recommend! :)

Vegan option was tasteless miso :/ Too expensive for what they offered.

Absolutely fantastic Japanese sushi & sashimi… food is excellent, very tasty, good all round menu. Sushi & sashimi to start was amazing, super fresh and prepared very well. The main rice dishes, nice portions, tasty and very well presented with fresh accompaniments. Staff were very friendly and attentive.. around great place to visit.

Had a lovely birthday lunch here! The food was fantastic and we had such an entertaining waiter look after us, always checking in to see if we needed anymore refreshments or sides. They also catered for one of our party who couldn’t eat onions, garlic or chilli - making sure she knew which items she could eat and that her meal was allergy free. Wish I had taken a picture of the food but we couldn’t help but to dig in straight away. Would recommend the Tonkotsu Ramen 🥰

Absolutely fantastic experience. We were treated to a sushi and sashimi tasting session, with the server providing instructions on each different dish. Then we went for the sake tasting board to really go bonkers. Fantastic service and food and can't wait to go back.

We went to celebrate a birthday food and service were both excellent. The restaurant was very quiet, it was a Sunday evening so lacked atmosphere. Would definitely go again maybe on a Friday or Saturday

Went here with my brother, was a very delightful experience. We had a server named TC who was very welcoming and friendly. Food was delicious, would highly recommend!

Our server TC was incredible, kept us laughing all the time! The food was perfect and was cooking beautifully, I will definitely be coming back.

The food is great, but the service and atmosphere are so much better. If I lived in the area, I'd probably come here every day. Absolutely the best restaurant I have ever been to, and I seriously doubt I'll find something of similar quality, at least for quite a while.

There's more affordable and nicer places in town than here. Got the Tom Yum, which cost nearly £20 and all it came with was 2 prawns, noodles and broth. Servers were lovely.

Good atmosphere and great service, but the food is disappointing when it comes to value for money. Tom yum with 2-3 shrimps and lots of noodles for filler is not what I expect for £19. I live in London and used to getting more for less. Never thought I’d say that, but in this case it’s true.

Popped in for an early dinner after going a matinee performance and before catching our train back to the Shires. What an amazing space. Tucked away in a basement on North Castle Street, this is such a calm and serene restaurant. The staff member was so welcoming and friendly and the food was wonderful. I’m vegan, my sister is not, but we both had a tastie and beautifully presented meal. I highly recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you! The only thing I didn’t like was the huge TV screen, which showed a fair amount of dead stuff being prepared. Next time I’ll not sit where I can see the TV. Other than that, perfect.

I was looking for some nice Japanese restaurants, and I want to give it try. But I am very very disappointed with the food. We came in for dinner and the restaurant was not so busy. We ordered sushi, Sashimi, and some hot dishes. In general, the dishes not good for its price, the sushi is similar to take away quality, especially the rice is wet. The biggest issue we had is, we found big fish bones in our salmon Sashimi, in all three pieces. I think it is very low level mistakes, and it could lead to some very dangerous situations. So unfortunately I am won't come back to this restaurant and won't recommend for anyone who loves Japanese food.

This may be the best Japanese comfort food I've had since I lived in Japan. The chicken katsu curry was perfectly prepared, and the sake tasting was just delightful.

Loved our meal at Hibiki, fresh and tasty food, with lots of choice. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Can't thank TC and Michelle enough for their attentive service and for a wonderful evening. Would definitely recommend and hope to go back again soon!

The service is impeccable! We were starving on Christmas Day scavenging for open restaurant and they let us in without booking! Both waiters welcomed us with water and Christmas crackers. The food was really tasty, I ordered mackerel which taste good and not fishy. We had a little accident with spilt water and the waiter came right away with napkins. They also filled our glasses with water through out the meal. The ambience are super nice as well, with music that is not loud and comfortable to be able to hear the voice of people we’re talking to.

I ordered gyudon, in the picture on the menu this dish looks appetizing with a lot of meat. When the dish was brought to me, I was disappointed, it contained 2 pieces of beef and the rest was onion. After eating I can taste onion in my throat and it made me vomit. I paid £19 for a bowl of rice with onions.

What a fantastic place! I wish we lived closer so we could eat here regularly, hope to come back again, I came as a solo eater with my pup and was so welcomed and the food was outstanding.

Although tucked away this Japanese restaurant is definitely a hidden gem! We were greeted warmly and given iced water upon arriving. The atmosphere and layout of the restaurant is perfect, and despite not having much natural light it feels warm and cozy. Our waiter was wonderful throughout the entire duration of the meal and made sure our experience was excellent. We ordered the tonkotsu ramen, chicken katsu curry, tuna nigiri and chicken yaki udon. All were delicious, great value and portions. The chicken katsu curry came with a side of miso soup which was very delicate and refreshing, a wonderful pairing. The tuna nigiri, although only 2 pieces, was served quickly and at the right temperature, very tasty. The chicken yaki udon was very sweet and rich, which I enjoyed however not everyone may. The tonkotsu ramen was definitely the star of the show however. It was served with a side of 2 chicken gyoza and was a large portion. This is the best tonkotsu broth I have ever tried, it was rich and bursting with flavour, unlike many I’ve had before. I will definitely be returning and recommend it to anyone who has appreciation for Japanese food.

My partner and I decided to reserve a table here after booking a holiday to Japan in 2024. It was a celebratory meal and one to get us excited for our journey ahead. We were encouraged by the positive reviews and the excellent sounding menu, offering everything that we were hoping to try. It was also a great opportunity for us to go somewhere new and support a smaller business. We had a great experience. We had never tasted sake before so we had the sake flight, which was very good. We shared the 8 piece sushi platter and I had the Katsu Curry, whilst my partner had the Tonkotsu Ramen. We finished up with the matcha ice cream and rice pudding. All tasted excellent. The portion sizes were adequate - not small but not massive either. The servers were very friendly and we felt very welcomed by all Perhaps the one downside was the toilets weren't the cleanest and the noren curtains (curtains in doorways) could've done with a wash as well. However, I'd most definitely come back for the amazing food and service.

Found this little Gem in Edinburgh. Tonkatsu Ramen, Unagi Don, Chicken Teriyaki Don were excellent choice when we were there last night! Atmosphere and service is excellent!

We've been to Japan and loved the food, so we try and visit Japanese restaurants as much as possible in the UK. First time here was great, so visited twice more during the trip. Didn't disappoint; Great food every time. Will be back : )

I was at Hibiki on Saturday for a celebration dinner. There were 18 of us across 2 tables, along with some additional walk in customers. The service was excellent, the food was quick to arrive, considering how many of us there were & everything was hot! The staff never appeared overwhelmed, nothing was a problem & I was so impressed by their memory of who was eating what! Such great value for money too. Highly recommend!!

Asian people DON'T COME！！As an asian，can tell they are fooling people. even lemonade is straight from supermarket.

Came here with my parents who are usually not fussy eaters, but oh boy was the food here horrible. I got the ramen, which was so soggy it disintegrated in my mouth. They got the chicken and mackerel don, both of which were so dry it looked like the proteins were microwaved. The tempura was pretty decent however.

Went to Hibiki in the summer and chose it again for a lunch in town at the weekend based on that experience. Was not disappointed. The service is impeccable (the waiter even said glad to see you again), The food is amazing. The best duck spring rolls I have ever tasted in my life. There were many Japanese clients which is a great positive indication too! This will be a recurring favourite!

Popped in for lunch as just round the corner from our rental. Lovely inside. Staff was very friendly. We had squid and chicken karaage, salmon and sea bass nigiri and tuna maku. All the food was excellent. Would definitely return.

One of my new favourite places to go to for Sushi. Not a huge menu but a lot of good food. Sometimes that is all you need and good atmosphere! 08/02/22 Back to Edinburgh again for business and visited Hibiki, sushi is quality and love the relaxing atmosphere.

Abbiamo trovato questo locale per caso rientrando in hotel, ci ispirava molto ma leggendo alcune recensioni eravamo un po’ titubanti. Lo abbiamo provato lo stesso e mi sento di dire che ne vale proprio la pena. Ottimo cibo cucinato bene e gustoso con porzioni adeguate, posto molto confortevole e il personale molto gentile e attento alle nostre richieste nonostante il mio inglese non perfetto. Lo consiglio vivamente per chi viene in questa meravigliosa città.

Extremely disappointed with their ramen. I knew we should have just went to Mak & Ramen nearby. The noodles were soggy, you can't even chew anything anymore. The broth tasted horrible, low quality, they didn't use eggs that are normally for ramen. The chicken karaage was undercooked and far from the other chicken karaage I ate, wasn't crunchy at all. It's overpriced for its quality, priced at 18.80 with a bit of an extra gyoza with the ramen. Total waste of my hard-earned money. The staff was nice and kind.

Our server, TC, was delightful and attentive. I had a quality tonkatsu ramen bowl with tuna sushi as a starter. The pork belly was cooked perfectly and served in a delicious broth.

Starter and mains are good, as is the service. The only thing we prefer differently is the type of noodle, it was soft and missed the bite to it that we're used to with Japanese noodles. Otherwise it would be a 5-star for us.

My sister and I saw this restaurant on TikTok. We thought the food looked amazing! Luckily, it also lived up to our expectations (even if it was a teeny bit expensive).

Tried for the first time. We ordered Sushi set B, Prawn and vegetable tempura and Tantanmen ramen. Tantanmen here is not something you can find in Japan and noodles were too soggy. Sushi rice is not properly prepared and too wet. Rice grains were stuck each other. That’s the reason why it is not so good. Sushi presentation was good. Tempura dipping sauce was too sweet. I had to add some more soy sauce. Also, soy sauce is healthy one which is reduced salt one. In my opinion, reduced salt soy sauce is not good in taste but for health.

食物都像是微波炉加热的。炸物都没有很好的衣，又薄又水，不像是很好的技术油炸的。面条用的面也不是日本拉面用的。而是最普通的素面，一点也不劲道且应该没有过过凉水，上来就已经开始坨了。总体来说并不好吃，很难说值这个钱。

An absolute gem of a place. It's a little hidden away and we walked pasted it a few times, but saw the pretty lights and stopped to have a look. I am so glad we did, this sushi restaurant is beautiful. The host was attentive but not over attentive and the food was delicious. When I am next back in Edinburgh, this restaurant will be booked at least once.

Già un po’ sconcertati dopo due sere dalla cucina scozzese abbiamo chiesto un’alternativa al ns hotel. Ci è stato consigliato questo locale sicuramente poco turistico. La cucina è di buon livello ma meno raffinata rispetto ad altri giapponesi. Soddisfacente il sushi, meno la tempura. Tutti i piatti sopra la sufficienza ma nessuno così speciale da lasciare a bocca aperta. Servizio molto preciso e cordiale con un cameriere gentilissimo. Prezzo corretto. Da consigliare per provare il giapponese in centro ad Edimburgo

The food and staff are both excellent. The sushi was terrific as were the hot dishes. The saki was extremely delicious. I wish I lived nearby so this could be my usual hangout.

My wife and I live in Saigon and so maybe we’re spoilt by the standard of Japanese restaurants. We thought this was bang average. The chicken karaage was only a bit warm on delivery and the gyoza was similar on the side dish to my ramen. They gave me the money back for the Karaage so that was good service and ‘TC’ was an excellent waiter who provided great service throughout. The spicy ramen was not spicy at all, pretty bland in fact & quite oily. Overall, a really disappointing evening on our 1 year anniversary. I hope there are better Japanese restaurants in Edinburgh.

This was my first time there, a saturday evening. Although it is a little bit more expensive than other Japanese options in New Town , I think it is totally worth it, as the comparative increase in quality is noticeable. The service was fast and everyone was very kind. The atmosphere was lovely, peaceful but not completely in silence, and the decor was very pretty. The menu offers both sushi and Japanese dishes. We had the latter and they were very good sized portions (not too big, nor too small), and delicious! Our tea was topped up without additional charges. Looking forward to be back!

Gioza and tempura prawns were nice, but unfortunately the pork belly ramen seemed like it had simply been heated up and tasted like it was on, its last day in the fridge. Wagamumas version is far superior which is not saying a lot. Katzu curry was not great. Home made one with curry past is again, significantly better. Plus very expensive. Will not go again.

A little hidden gem, during our stay we walked past several times and decided that tonight we would try it as its our last night here. The food is amazing, credit to the chefs. However the reason for 3* and not a 5* is down to the service. I'm honestly shocked at how myself and my partner was treated. We got ignored for a table of 10, we then after asking for a dessert menu was forgotten about until the waiter realised. When trying to get the attention of a waiter who looked at us and ignoring my request for the bill and served the table to the left and right of us their bill made us extremely unhappy. Eventually we got the bill then left. Such a shame as its a beautiful place that serves beautiful food and fairly well priced.

Service was good while the food was average. Ramen was way too soft and tasted like prepacked noodle from supermarket. Tempura was nice. I may go again to try their sushi if I am nearby but will not go on purpose.

We visited Hibiki for an early dinner for the first time a few nights ago. The restaurant is a really lovely setting, with a nice relaxing atmosphere. It's on the pricer side, but I think this is more than justified by the high quality food that's served and the great service we received throughout our visit.

Such a hidden gem! Not so hidden though. 😅 I just wanted to say it because this restaurant is located under another restaurant. Loved that we discovered Hibiki. Such a lovely and relaxing environment with music that calms your mind and body. Aside from that, their food is excellent!! I ordered their Mackerel with miso soup- the soup is legit delicious!! The mackerel is so soft plus topped with savoury sauce and sesame seeds which is perfect for me! Our other order was the Ramen! So far the best Ramen we’ve tasted in UK!! Noodles are soft and not too heavy, the broth was perfect as well and the serving is just right! The staffs were friendly and soft spoken. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Also, i wish they have a branch in England or in London so we can easily access it 😉

I visited Hibiki with a friend of mine after hearing about how lovely the food was here and it did not disappoint! The ramen dish that I ordered was absolutely delicious and one of the best that I have ever had. The staff were especially kind and friendly. You can tell that the people who work here pride themselves on giving good service. I will definitely be back to eat here again soon.

I’ve been there four times and was never disappointed. It became my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh from the fist time I dined there. The food is always gorgeous, staff friendly, really nice vibe and I think you pay for what you get. Whether it’s an occasional meal with friends or on your own, or a romantic meal, Hibiki is the place to go. Btw I highly recommend their guioza topped with cheese. My favourite item from their menu. My mouth is watering already!!

Nice but way overpriced £5 for a basic miso soup

Ok, where do I begin… The duck spring rolls were unbelievably dry (I know I know, ordering spring rolls at a Japanese place, but the sprog was begging for it). The Sushi platter was ok, but equally nothing to write home about. The serving saucers we were given were actually hot to the touch, which must surely go against the whole point of raw fish on cool rice thing… Now onto the ramen. Look, I don’t necessarily object to paying £15+ for a bowl of ramen, but definitely not for this. The flavour was ok-ish, a little under seasoned but to each their own I suppose. My problem was with the egg. I love a runny ramen egg as much as the next man, but this one was so undercooked, by the by the time it reached our table the yolk had all but disappeared into the soup, which in turn made the soup very thick and almost gritty. After being charged nearly £40 for these two starters and a main, there was also an optional 10% service charge added to the bill, which I seriously considered not paying. But being the chicken I am, I swallowed my pride and paid. To be fair though, the service, apart from the food, was efficient. The décor and general ambience is nice. The two slabs of pork that came with the ramen was huge, a bit bland but huge, which I can always appreciate. All in all this is sub-bar food with eye-wateringly high prices. Not a herd of wild horses could drag me back…

For my birthday my bf and I decided to try this restaurant for the first time. Simply amazing. Great atmosphere. Service was at the top, the manager was kind and helpful. I appreciated the refilling of water and tea like it happens in Japan . About the food was stunning. Only one thing to say: if they add the salviette to clean your hands at the end of the lunch/dinner , this place is the top. I ll be back soon. You got a new regular
