Wonderful lunch stop. Amazing food.

Great food, great staff, excellent service. If you're in Hexham give Costa coffee a miss, this place is just round the corner. With an excellent bookshop next door.

The food was delicious, best cheese scone I've had in a long time, delicious soup. Husband enjoyed his panini very much. Excellent tea selection, not often I find somewhere which serves rooibos tea! Very wholesome and friendly environment, was just disappointed I didn't have enough room to eat the carrot cake with looked very good! Will have to visit again and have it next time 🥰

The principles of this establishment is first class...lovely to see an organisation supporting people with disabilities and a great atmosphere and vibes... However, both my special cauliflower and potato curry and my wife's special roasted veg lasagne lacked any flavour! My anticipation for a brilliant curry was lost after my first mouthful... Such a disappointment 😥 Please look into the ingredients and flavouring and then you would have an even better experience to offer your customers... Roy Williams 😁 X

A social enterprise cafe with nice cakes vegan if you need them

We stumbled across this cafe whilst walking around Hexham. The staff were absolutely wonderful! My friends and I work in SEN schools, and we especially loved how a staff member Susie interacted/supported all of the staff, she was really encouraging, kind, she fostered a really positive atmosphere. The food was so good all handmade, (even my friend who initially was reluctant to go to a Vegetarian cafe) loved it! The food came incredibly quickly too! We only wish we lived nearer so could visit frequently! Could not recommend this place enough!

A warm welcome awaits you here. We all had the vegan breakfast , which was delicious. Everything was cooked perfectly and the service was great. Tasty coffee and a free refill too for the filter coffee. Dog friendly as well. If I lived in Hexham I would be a regular here and if in the vicinity again will be calling in for another substantial breakfast.

The staff are absolutely fantastic!! They’re so welcoming of children, little ones don’t just feel “tolerated” they actually chatted to my toddler and joked with him. We both really enjoyed our food. I was very impressed with my vegan biscoff cake and they have a nice menu. I think the only improvement that I can think of would be to offer add ons for the small plate/childrens portions such as fruit and/or yoghurt so they they have a fuller meal. We will definitely be back!

We were a boisterous party of 5 who arrived mid morning before the lunch menu had started but were made to feel comfortable just having a drink. The food was great espcially the cakes and the staff top notch!

My go to place for lunch, never disappoints. Beautiful food, amazing staff and a great cause. It’s so nice to have a good range of vegetarian food to choose from and the cheese scones are the best ever.

Looked this cafe out as great ethos. Wasn’t disappointed. Only had coffee and cake but both good and the service was amazing…such lovely staff. Lots of choice on the menu for vegans . Would recommend for a casual lunch or coffee and cake. Also near a great independent book shop so can’t go wrong.

The friendliest people, making me and my dog feel so very welcome every time we visit. An absolute gem of a coffee shop - one of the few places that still offer free top-ups of filter coffee - this is a rare find these days and much appreciated! Delicious scones (and who knew they were vegan? Such a bonus!). Free wifi and a loyalty card to encourage you to keep on returning. We'd be back regardless of that card though - this place has our loyalty already - it's a cosy, welcoming, friendly, gentle place to be. Thank you!

We dropped in on the spur of a moment and discovered a real gem. The ambience was lovely and friendly and all the menu options looked really tasty. We had eaten lunch not long before, so we opted for cake and coffee. The vegan biscoff was out of this world and a very generous helping. We will be back!

Excellent home made food, excellent choice, plus daily specials. Reasonably priced too. Excellent ethos behind the cafe, supporting people with mental health problems into work. Staff friendly and service quick too. Wished we lived more local, it would be a regular choice of ours.

We visited this cafe just want coffee but once inside we saw the cakes and scones and the fact that they had gluten free Victoria sponge we all got cake as well. Between us we had fruit scone, cheese scone, caramel shortbread and gf Victoria sponge. They were all delicious and good value. I would recommend this to others.

Just saw this whilst passing and popped in for coffee and cake/scone. All vegetarian with good vegan selection and gluten free cake and hot food. GF victoria sponge was good as were the scones, couldn't fault them. Definitely worth a visit if looking for veggie or even just healthier savoury food or just good cakes and coffee.

I've been there with a group of mummys and babies and everything was perfect! Nice coffee and food, great service aswell.

Visited today with lots of fellow mums and babies. We were so well looked after and catered for despite taking up loads of room and being very noisy. Thanks for having us!

What an excellent cafe. Supporting people with learning difficulties, vegetarian and right next to independent bookshop and...... after extensive research the best cheese scones in Hexham.

We enjoyed our lunch in the cafe. The food was delicious and the staff were really lovely and helpful. We would recommend this for anyone, not just vegetarians! :)

Everytime we visit Northumberland we go for lunch at this cafe. The staff are always really friendly and helpful, especially so for people with dietary restrictions. I had the baked potato with roasted veg and hummus. It was delicious. There was even a DF coleslaw on the side. My husband had the real thing and enjoyed his sandwich. We don't usually look at the cakes, but couldn't believe the size of the slices of chocolate cakes which came out of the kitchen that day. The person who received the cake with wide eyes said despite the size she couldn't help but eat it all!

The Hextol Tans is a vegetarian cafe run by the Hextol Foundation working to improve the lives of people with disabilities and learning difficulties, so a great place to support. All the staff were brilliant, really friendly and we sat down to a very clean table with a sign to say it had been sanitised (after seeing the Manager clean one of the other tables, be assured they are clean she did a proper thorough job). We ordered vegan lasagne (which also happened to be gluten free), a jacket potato with houmous and roast vegetables and two decaf teas with oat milk. The food was delicious, good sized portions and we left clean plates, I also liked chef came out to serve our lunch, that's service for you. There were vegan cakes on offer but we were too full to partake, but they looked delicious. Highly recommended if you ever visit Hexham and you are supporting such a good cause.

Popped in for coffee and cake. Really delicious food, great portions (big!) and very friendly service. It’s down a cobbled side street and unfortunately we’d already eaten lunch at a different cafe, would’ve loved to try their savoury offerings, nice looking menu with lots of choice. Cleanest cafe been in for a long time too, Covid compliant, saw staff cleaning the chairs after customers had sat on them for example :) Will be recommending and one day hopefully revisiting!

Just had a lovely lunch out with the family at Hextol Tans. First visit to Hexham and we were recommended this place by a friend. The staff were lovely, food delicious. Its based on a lovely quiet cobbled street. I would highly recommend.

Lovely cafe concept run by a charity. Nice welcome on arrival. Had Coffee, tray bakes and scones between us. All were very tasty and of good quality. Very Covid compliant. Will visit again

The Tans is such a cosy and welcoming café, and it is such a pleasure to dine there. I have enjoyed two vegan main courses from the specials board recently, and I have been so impressed with the delicious and diverse range of dishes available alongside the fantastic every day menu. The staff are always so friendly and kind, and I really must make mention of how incredible the cake is! The vegan chocolate cake is even better than the dairy chocolate cake, and I love popping in to find it's available. Can't wait to return, hopefully soon.

We stopped in at the café for lunch. The tables were all really well spaced out, with tape to show where to step. There was also hand-sanitiser and clear instructions. The staff were really friendly and helpful (even offering to make a special dish because of an onion intolerance in the group). The food was delicious and really reasonably priced - highly recommended.

Lovely food. We enjoyed a very tasty celeriac and apple soup and a delicious butternut squash pasta. Good choice of drinks and some yummy baking too. Friendly and efficient service. Thoroughly recommend.

We really enjoyed our break from Xmas shopping on this little cafe. We couldn’t fault the friendly service, homemade scone, jam and carrot cake. A local independent charity really worth supporting.

With a warm welcome, and staff who are friendly and helpful, this vegetarian cafe has a decent menu, with many vegan options. Additionally, it is in itself a worthwhile cause as it seeks to employ people with mental health issues and learning disabilities as part of its charitable aims. I only had a cup of coffee and a toasted tea cake, with my granddaughter, but they were delicious and served quickly and well presented. The staff were happy to help with the pushchair and made the whole experience a pleasure I will return to.

Great tasting food and friendly fast service. I had the baked potato with hummus and roasted veg and fresh salad, both GF and DF, and my husband had a toasted ciabatta. With 2 green teas it was £16.50 for a substantial lunch which was very reasonable. It's a community cafe and we felt a welcome that you do not always get. Everyone seemed happy to be there and it made us enjoy our meal so much more. A real treat. Thank you to all the staff.

What a joy to visit an establishment where everyone seems happy in their work and genuinely wanting to give great service, the food my husband and I had (Lentil and chickpea soup with scone and Aubergine curry) was delicious, the cafe was spotless, I just wished we lived nearer so we could be regulars.

We had soup and drinks here. Lovely Mexican bean and veg soup, not overcooked. Nice atmosphere, obviously getting lots of support from locals as well

So, with Trish moving ever closer to vegan from vegetarian we were looking for a restaurant that did a bit of both. We came across this one tucked away in St mary's Chare and to its credit from the outside it screamed veggie and vegan!!It has a modest menu, mainly snacks and we had the mushroom pate on toast, a nice touch was that the young lady who had served us had picked up on me ordering a coffee for Trish with soya milk and when she brought the pate and toast over offered to swap the dairy butter for vegan. Top Marks!!The food was fabulous, 3 big slices of brown toast, a tub of fruity coleslaw and another of sweet onions and a spllash of fresh crispy salad. I had a cup of tea and with Trish's coffee the whole lot came to exactly £15.00.Another big plus, the place was well decorated , fresh and bright and of course the all important toilet score, it was spotless 10/10.Well worth a visit if you are looking for something different.

Great selection of vegan and vegetarian food in a relaxed atmosphere

Called here for a snack of tea and a cheese scone and really enjoyed it. We called later in our week's holiday near Hexham for a late lunch, and had the most delicious and extremely generous ploughman's lunches. Service was quick and friendly. We were pleased to be supporting a local charity too. Do give this vegetarian cafe a try.

Lovely food and the best people

Hextol Tans is a lovely little cafe with very friendly and helpful staff staff. the food in general was excellent, with very good flavours + at a very good price, as well as interesting options for the daily specials. we especially enjoyed the cheese scones and the quiche, both of which were some of the best I've had (we ended up getting an extra scone because we enjoyed it so much). the atmosphere was great and I'm definitely planning on coming back if I am in the area again!

My first visit to Hexham - looking for somewhere to have lunch and came upon a board advertising Hextol Tans. Excellent food, friendly atmosphere and good service..

Had a random day off with the missus so decided to have a look around Hexham, by chance wandered in as we strolled around and had the veggie chilli that was on the specials board, thoroughly enjoyed it and was great value, whilst there read with interest the background to the company/ charity and left with a warm feeling! Not only from the chilli but also supporting a great cause! We will be back, well done to all involved.

We had a nice lunch. Our 18 month daughter loved it as did we. Alice the supervisor was friendly and extremely attentive. She helped us with the high chair.

Friendly service and wonderful, creative vegetarian food (and I'm not even veggie!). Scones (sometimes with melty cheese still stringy when pulled apart!) and beanburgers to die for. A must for coffee and cake in Hexham and far betyer thsn the other national chains...and they support the local Dilston College students with learning disabilities who make some of the food and give service with a smile. Five stars every time - esp Thursday mornings

Had a very nice lunch here yesterday ......almost defeated by the generous portions of wholesome , home-cooked food ( great quiche and a tasty macaroni/penni cheese ) The surroundings are pleasant and the staff delightful . Well worth a visit .

4 good friends meeting for lunch. Phoned in advance to say 2 of us would like a low calorie salad. No problem, I shall pop some eggs on said my phone contact (even though salad is not on the menu).

Staff are friendly, and they employ people with learning difficulties or disabilities, who otherwise may not gain employment. A real hidden treasure in the centre of Hexham. Oh, the coffee and tea are spot on as well.

What a lovely place! 1 veggie 3 omnivores all very happy. We had quiche ( brilliant- good pastry lovely filling) lentil soup, cheese scone, houmous and roasted veg ciabatta and a brilliant pesto pasta with feta and pea shoots. Homemade cakes and child friendly.
