Wow!such a lovely fish bar. Food is amazing especially love the homemade curry and patties, and their tartar sauce is the best I've tasted. Lush friendly and cosy atmosphere, and the lady , Lesley I think her name was so friendly and helpful with great service highly reccomnd

Simply a must stop for fish & chips if visiting Hexham. I’m fussy on my Fish & Chips and I was blown away! Beautiful fresh flakey cod with the best tasting batter that is cooked to perfection all the way through to the fish, no gloop like so many shops. I know this sounds mad but chips that taste like lovely potato abs fab.

Great fish bar that has a good sized seating area inside. I have been there quite a few times when visiting family in the area and food has never disappointed. Portion sizes are generous and pricing seems fair, although a meal for four will be 50-60 pounds.

Little over priced for fish and chips at £10.30, but they were freahed cooked and tasty

Simply the best I've had in a long time and I've had a fair few, the cod bites were full of fish with a light tasty batter and were enormous the chips were tasty too, it was well presented and served by a nice pleasant lady, I got the Pensioner's and it came with a pot of mushy peas bread and butter and a pot of tea all PERFECT and TASTY

Food great, the fish was lovely and good portion sizes. Friendly staff. One of us had a pensioners small cod meal which was more than good sized portion. Will definitely eat there again.

Got a couple of chip butties to take out. A simple order perhaps but very well done by helpful staff. Excellent chips, good choice of sauces/condiments, the bun was a nice proper bread bun, not the sort of dried crumbly things that fall apart in your hands that so many chippies seem to go for, and a nice lot of chips both inside and outside the bun. Fairly priced (and slightly cheaper as it was early afternoon). Doing simple things right gives a good indication of how the rest of the menu might be. Would definitely come again.

The service was appalling charged me £3 twice for the sauces. The staff are impatient and rude first time visiting and last. For the price you pay the food and the service you receive isn’t worth it absolutely disgusted was not expecting this

Just had the most delicious scampi and chips - it was super! Had take away, but you can sit in if you like. Good portion size of chips too. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely extortionate prices!!! Prices have pretty much doubled since new owners have taken over. Takes ages for food and staff aren't the friendliest. I'd recommend another food place before going here unless you like being ripped off

First class fish and chips. The batter was very light and crispy. The chips had a very good texture and an excellent mouth feel. Service was great and the reatraunt was spotless.

This place was once great but has gone downhill. The last two visits were disappointing with missing food, overcook fish and an extra long wait despite ordering ahead with a pre set collection time. That's all before now being overpriced. Won't be going back after several years of this being our first choice for fish and chips.

Disability helps , I would be better trying to read on the board , wasn't wearing my glasses , the staff were brilliant 4 me , massive thanks , just enjoy what ya buy ! .x.

Fish was lovely but quite greasy (nice puddle in the corner of the carton). Chips the best I've had in a while. Mushy peas really tasty.

We enjoyed an excellent cod and chips meal at our table served with tartar sauce and a slice of lemon, home made mushy peas and a pot of tea, all presented in a most polite and friendly manner. This place is a great find, just a couple of minute walk around the corner from the (free) Wentworth car park, and handy for a stroll through the town afterwards. Highly Recommended. Choice of take away or eat in.

We had the sharing platter, and there was more than enough for 2. As it happened to be our wedding anniversary we treated ourselves to the homemade tiramisu, which was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend trying the homemade tartar sauce too! We will definitely be back

Awful service the new lad didn’t have a clue serving but the owner left him struggling. Everyone who comes in gets served at the expense of any food coming ou he left our chips and saucers sitting so long they were cold and not edible . There is a McDonald’s locally now this place won’t last

The food and service were exceptional but a lunchtime fish and chips for two with mushy peas, tarter sauce and two cans of pop came to £35.50 ! They charge £2.20 for an ordinary can of pop, £2.20 for each portion of Mushy peas, and £2.00 for a tiny portion of Tarter sauce. The fish and chips were £24.70 with a whopping £10.80 extra for two cans of pop, mushy peas and a tiny portion of Tarter Sauce. The portions were huge, far far too many mushy peas, the food is lovely, the staff are nice, the place is clean, but they sting you with the extras…

We stopped in Hexham on the way home up the A68. Weren't sure where to grab lunch but we found one of the best chip shops we've been too! And we have done Anstruther, Edinburgh Fishmarket and Durham's finest in the past. This place is great and the fella serving was so friendly. Just a really good lunch for the family. Perfectly cooked haddock and great mushy peas!

We sat in the restaurant and enjoyed very friendly and efficient service. Option of having fish in breadcrumbs instead of batter and it was excellent. We'll definitely be back.

The best fish and chips place in the area. Freshly cooked to order, friendly efficient service and just the best fish and chips you can get around Hexham! Needed a quick meal before a concert and stumbled across Hexham Fish Bar. We ate in and it was terrific. Vegetarian options were brilliant (Halloumi fritters - mmmmm) and price was very reasonable. The service was excellent too and the place was pristine. Well recommended.

We happened upon this magnificent chippy on our way into Hexham yesterday on a half term day out. Free parking to the rear was much appreciated and we hungrily made our way inside. We were warmly welcomed by our server who seated us whilst we chose from the varied menu. Cod chips and mushy peas, small cod chips and mushy peas, large scampi and chips and salt and pepper squid, chips mushy peas and curry sauce were ordered and we waited in anticipation whilst we enjoyed our drinks. The food arrived promptly and looked and smelled amazing and oh my goodness, it tasted of fishy heaven. The chips were 'proper chips' crisp on the outside, fluffy inside, the fish was crisp, golden and juicy and the mushy peas, oh the mushy peas...true perfection, best I have ever tasted, sweet, not stodgy, just mushy magnificence. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal, I also tasted the squid and curry sauce and all were excellent! Thank you to all the staff for making our visit such a highlight of the day, we will be back!

Have eaten here a good few times and the food is awesome. The haddock is always amazing with lovely light batter and so fresh it falls apart. Nice crisp chips too. The place is always ultra clean which is really reassuring.

After living in the south for some time, I forgot how good fish and chips are in Northumberland. By far you don't get better than this place.

First and foremost they have very friendly and cheerful staff and was nice place to eat in. Was worried there wouldn't be much choice for vegetarian but was pleasantly surprised with the range. We were given generous portions of delicious food and was good value. Would happily recommend to all.

Have not been in a while but popped in with a client for lunch just as they opened. The decor is light and airy, easy to access. We were promptly greeted with a smile and a menu. My client was directed to the pensioner special which was reasonably priced at £9 to include homemade mushy peas, tea, homemade tartare sauce and a hot drink. It arrived promptly, the batter light and crispy. The service was attentive and not overbearing. It became busy quickly but they maintained control and quality. The menu is tight and controlled allowing quality to shine through.
