Feel a bit conflicted writing this as most visits have been good. Today less so, unfortunately. Slow to receive food (not overly busy for a Saturday night) and food was mediocre. Game lasagna (£22) was overcooked and dry, and served with a paltry salad. My wife's confit duck was a bit better but also overcooked. Nearly £13 for a large glass of wine also a kick in the teeth! Shame as other visits have been better. Hopefully this was a one-off

Popped in for a pint and lunch this weekend and really enjoyed it. Good selection of beers and lunch menu was great, I had the fish finger wrap, delicious.

Just discovered this lovely pub just 2 miles from home! The food was great, the staff were really lovely and attentive and they are dog friendly. Just one request - please do a quiz night! I love a good quiz!

Premium prices should have indicated premium food quality, however the sunday roast beef was very disappointing. Fatty pieces of beef. The roast potatoes were hard and dry inside and the outside was very tough and took lots of effort to cut. Apple and rhubarb crumble was good.

Just revisited the Heron for lunch, always a lovely quiet atmosphere, the food as usual was excellent, served by friendly staff.

We have regular lunches at The Heron with different friends. We have eaten a variety of meals which have consistently been well cooked and enjoyable. In November, another friend with mobility issues was very well looked after. All 4 of us had a very nicely cooked meal and will return . This was an evening meal on March 12th with my son. We both much enjoyed the ribeye steaks with nicely cooked dauphinois potatoes and other veg

We had a very lovely meal and service was excellent. The only reason for 4 stars is that I think that your prices are a little high. Otherwise it was first class.

We thought the music was a bit loud and asked for it to be turned down, to be told they can't do that. The moved us instead away from the speakers however, that meant we were in the darkest corner of the pub and even my 4year old said it was too dark. We asked for his kids burger to come plain, it came drenched in burger sauce. The starters were nice, only other complaint was the fish special was a bit pricey for the portion size.

I was really impressed when I visited last week, great food , lovely atmosphere with the roaring fire and the staff were very helpful too, all round it means I will be back!

Up-market foody pub with a nice atmosphere balanced between patrons and restaurant guests - with both smartly separated from each other both inside and outside. Food is always very tasty, with both specials and regular menu having a large choice of dishes to suit all tastes. Menu has many more game options than most other restaurants and pubs, which is interesting. But lots of options for all different tastes.

Nice food, good service and they brought a bowl of water for my dog without being asked. A positive experience for all of us.

We had a table of 10. We were told when we booked we had the table from 12 to 2.30pm, which was no problem, however to be constantly reminded when we arrived, four times, was a bit much. We left at 2.10pm. Requested a high chair, which was not at the table.we had to organize. Your fish is always good, however your roast meat not great Cauliflower lovely. Children's playground sealed up.

Really tasty and interesting menu. Impressive range vegetarian options. All enjoyed in a cosy corner with a toasty fire and with attentive staff. We all enjoyed our lunch!

This is our favourite local pub. There is a good mix of options on the menu. The staff are friendly and attentive but don’t rush you. A lovely relaxing evening every time we visit.

We had a lovely time. Well looked after by very friendly staff who took time to chat to us. Starter was excellent from the set menu but main course pie not so good. Will return at a later date.

We visited the Heron on the Ford pub on Sunday for a reunion with a group of friends and young children. There were 25 of us and we were reserved a nice area close to a fire. The staff were extremely accommodating and helpful and patient with the chaos created by such a large group! We pre-ordered the food which was excellent and came out in a timely manor. We would not hesitate to recommend the Heron the Ford as a great family friendly location.

We had booked a table for 8 and we was made to feel welcome straight away. Service was lovely the meals arrived I good time and everyone enjoyed there meals they even did a dairy free Sunday roast for us. Would definitely recommend them and will going back in the new-year

6 of us came for lunch and overall the meals were good. However, the 2 people who ordered chicken found that half of it was tough and could not be eaten. In addition, the blue cheese desert was simply non existent, the portions were ridiculously small for the price.

It was a great place to have a lovely meal and share it with friends.

We were with you for a 70th birthday. Everyone had a good time in a very comfortable atmosphere. Staff were excellent and food was lovely. Couldn't fault anything.

Booked for a quiet meal and staff were diligent enough to move our table rather than being next to a large group having a Christmas party. Service was exceptional and food was delicious. Couldn’t fault anything and look forward to returning again soon

Went for Christmas Dinner, the Turkey Roast was fantastic and the Christmas pud was delicious. Staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble. They've got beautiful Christmas decorations this year which along with the log fires just add to the experience.

Such a disappointment - food very average, bland and did not meet expectations. In addition the staff were rude and unhelpful. We won’t be recommending or returning.

Saturday lunch with adults, children and dogs. All made to feel very welcome. Great service and great food. We sat for a couple of hours, not rushed through but well looked after and attended.

We had a fantastic meal today - six of us with a mix of sunday roasts and other meals. All really lovely, very friendly and helpful staff and full pub so clearly doing things right.

Average Sunday lunch. Food and plates tepid. Lacking in green vegetables. Pork wafer thin and crackling rock hard. Redeeming feature the staff are very nice and welcoming.

Service: Zero. Not at all welcoming. Food: One dish ok, the other bland. Atmosphere: Sat outside on a sunny day so don't know what the inside atmosphere is like. All we know is that on entering not acknowledged at all, staff clearing tables around us no interaction with any customer so weren't surprised we too got the same treatment. Statt are very young, but that's no excuse for appalling service.

Nice friendly busy pub located near Twyford near a ford. Lovely large bear garden with lots of shade. Really worth a visit if in the area.

Nice place, visited to meet up with a bunch of cyclists at a lunchtime meet. Snack lunch (very tasty) was roast beef panini. Very nice, but the beef needs to be cut up more finely, or get yourself razor sharp dentures! It was very nice but perhaps a steak knife would improve the situation. Go for it, but find a sharp knife!

Unless a local..a sat nav is needed to find your way through country lanes to this pub. The ford nearby looked quite deep after the recent rains but was being enjoyed by a man and his two dogs. Went with a group of club members and enjoyed the food the service and the atmosphere. Play area for children good car parking and excellent outdoor seating

I ordered a baked potato with tuna . It arrived black on the outside and the filling was watery with little potatoes. It's a shame they deemed it appropriate to leave the kitchen! I explained I was not happy and they said I couldn't have a refund but offered a pudding! I didn't want a pudding. I will not be returning!

Went there for Lunch on 23rd Aug 2023. Welcome - Zero. Totally disinterested staff. No Greeting. No Smile. Nothing from the young chap behind the bar. If I had been own my own, I would have just turned around and gone elsewhere. Food - We ordered Mains only. You order and pay at the bar. Your food is brought to your table. You have to collect your own cutlery, paper serviette, salt, pepper, mayonnaise and tomato sauce and lay your table. Main: Companion ordered - Lamb Shoulder Lasagne which came with a salad. He said it was very very nice and tasty. I ordered - Szechuan Spiced Bream on a bed of noodles, pak choi and broth. I found my food totally bland and tasteless. Didn't think it had any seasoning at all. However, the fish was crisp - just how I like it. i just added tons of salt and pepper which helped. Dessert: Luckily they forgot to remove the Menu because, when clearing the table, no "would you like see what we have for dessert?". I did not want pudding. Friend had Rhubarb Ginger Custard tart which he said looked unusual, but tasted very nice. He would have it again. Drinks: I had a White wine Rossi Trebbiano 250ml. I really enjoyed it,. Complimented the fish beautifully. Companion had half a Guinness and black. A member of staff comes and clears the table. no interaction, no warmth. Nothing. Was going to give 2 TA stars, but have left 3 simply because the kitchen should not be penalised, for the poor service. The total bill came to around £55 give or take a few pennies. Conclusion: Would we visit the pub again? - No. Service: None. We felt totally ignored and in the way. When I went to order the pudding I felt I was interrupting the chap behind the bar as he was chatting to female member and neither looked up to acknowledge me. I just waited until they finished their chat!!! One can excuse one or two members of staff having an off day, but every single one? Leaves a bad taste. We eat out twice a week and really wanted to make this our "local". Thankfully, it is a very busy pub, so us not spending our money there, will have Zero impact.

Weather wasnt the best so sat inside for dinner with Dog in bar area. Water bowls and treats for the dog. Hard stone floor which on warm days one can imagine is cooler for dogs. Greeted immediately, sat at table, we had made a booking earlier. Staff polite and friendly. Took drinks order immediately. Then came back for food order. Both had the special Pork Belly. Excellent. Veg crunchy and fresh, pork tender and not a lot of fat as you would expect sometimes in pork belly. The food came quickly enough as apparently being cooked to order ( nod to sign at entrance :) ). Same with the pudding. The staff checked in regularly (could be because we sat at a table in bar area and its the centre of operations) and were friendly and courteous. Definitely go back. We walk the dog in Charvil country park regularly and its been many years since we have been in to this venue. We obviously have been missing out. Thanks to the staff front of house and kitchen for value for money visit and nice time.

First time back since reopening, my Mother in law lives in Charvil and it has been a favourite in the past, myself and my husband stopped a few days ago recommended by our family. The food was ordered and came out quite quickly considering there were families there and it had just opened for the evening, my food was OK, nothing interesting or to write home about, had the pasta with beef shin, it was just that. No seasoning very bland, had tonadd salt and pepper for a bit of a lift, I asked for a drink with with elderflower and was given cordial with lemonade and it was sickly sweet, too much cordial! The garlic bread was a whole baguette, which is too much for 1 person but I ordered 2 because I assumed it was a few slices. They need to explain this on the menu, also the beef shin and pasta I have had before is usually in a sauce, tomato/beef based, it was just slow cooked beef no sauce combined with plain pasta. A few herbs would have been complimentary guys! Very basic and dull. Very disappointed and probably won't be going back.

Very pleasant indeed. Food is lovely, very generous portions at very reasonable prices, the beef shin nachos are great may I add. Staff are very accommodating, all round very happy and will most certainly return.

This place is worth a visit for a few reasons. Great menu - all the usual ‘pub’ favourites along with some more interesting options. Good food - not only is it presented well, but it tastes good and plenty of it. Location - big patio, perfect for summer evenings. The restaurant area is spacious and plenty of room between tables. The staff were friendly and know the menu inside out - however, we had to chase to place a drinks order after being shown to our table, we had to nudge them to place our meal order, had to ask for cutlery and chase for the bill. This wasn’t just us… other tables were having to wave and call out m to catch the staff’s attention too. Will be back, but hoping waiting staff are further trained in monitoring diners/tables.

Very disappointing. The service was almost non existent, there was no greeting and everyone was too busy to serve. We waited almost an hour before eating with no apology. The food was okay, but I would not return as the service was terrible

Had Sunday lunch here and everything was as it should be. Great choice of menu with friendly and attentive staff. The building has evolved over the years and now is a beautiful place to sit, eat and have a drink. Good value so another reason to come here. One word of warning if using the rear car park be aware of two cavernous dips which in a low car could cost you dearly. Enjoyed our visit here and also has a lovely seating area in the garden.

Went for lunch with family on 31st May 2023. The service was excellent, very friendly. The menu had a very good variety of meals, the allergen advice on the menu not only had the usual items listed but also said which items had egg (which my husband is intolerant too) and fish.

After waiting over an hour for our starter & questioning how long it would be, the starter was disappointing. The bou buns were supposed to have a slaw with it that consisted of a few strands of cut carrot & cucumber! The fish cakes were bland & coulourless! We waited another 20 mins for our main & it was terrible! The sole was tasteless & the rissoto came with a large piece of cod on the top & cold tuna. My friend left half of it. When we complained all they said was “sorry” & took off the drinks which was all soft drinks! The attitude of the young assistant was kurt & offhand. We have visited on numerous occasions & had a lovely meal which is why we returned but unfortunately we won’t be returning!!

A very enjoyable Sunday roast, a cosy warm pub with friendly staff. You’re nicely spaced out from other diners too. Has a large outside area for when the weather is warmer, and local walls nearby.

We have visited the Heron on the Ford many times, and each time, the food has been amazing. Tonight, I had the chicken katsu burger, and my boyfriend had the liver. The whole menu looked incredible, and I would have been so happy with whatever I had picked. We both shared the bread and butter pudding, and it was honestly the nicest pudding I have ever eaten, and I wish I had ordered one all for myself! - Next time I will ;) The owners and staff are so lovely and the atmosphere is so homely. We are looking forward to coming back again in the new year! Thank you to Adam, Niki and gorgeous baby Riley, we had a lovely evening x

Our family had lunch at the Heron on the Ford on Sunday, celebrating 2 birthdays. We always know we’ll have very good meals there and this was no exception. We pre-booked our starters and mains, with desserts chosen later, and as usual all of us...

We went for dinner on Friday evening, the staff were welcoming, the food was fantastic and great value, Followed by a great band. We will be back

This is the 2nd time we been this summer for evening meal. The food once you get it is of a good standard. Slow to take orders , waited over 30 minutes just for a garlic bread starter. One of the waitresses come across moody...

We went for lunch which was worthy of a Michelin star, absolutely lovely. How this place has had any bad reviews is beyond us! You simply must give the Heron on the Ford a try, you will not be disappointed!

Hardly busy, yet food was very disappointing indeed. Chips under cooked on kids meal, and main meal. Kids play area shut off, and just seems to have lost its initial attraction. Won’t be returning again now.

As a family of ten, we moved two tables together on the patio so that we could all sit together. It’s 24 degrees outside and a lovely day. Whilst one of our group went in to place our order at the bar a female member...

Great location by the river...good end point for a dog walk. Food okay, nothing to write home about. Staff friendly. All in all a nice pub. Probably deserves more than three stars but not quite 4 stars yet.

Splendid - good food, good service, good atmosphere.

My wife and I decided to try this pub for lunch having read the good reviews. Staff were friendly and polite so no problem there. Unfortunately it was the worst meal we have had. My lamb koftas starter was tasteless, the peri chicken main was bland, watery and equally tasteless, nice oven ready chips though. My wife's starte, Brown crab Caesar salad, mentioned crab but seemed to be just Caesar salad with some slices some sort of fish. The stuffed chicken leg was equally devoid of flavour. I mentioned this to the waitress and she said she would let the kitchen know. This was a complete rip off at £56 which included a pint of beer and a soft drink. Sorry to say we shall not be returning.
