Only stopped for a pint but I loved the place. Very traditional looking pub.

Top Sunday roast. Staff were gracious and attentive, and the food was top notch, affordable, and came with a decent sized portion. Would definitely come again.

As strangers we were made to feel comfortable with staff and locals. Having searched for somewhere doing food this was an extremely nice pub with very nice food.

Called in today with my grandson, in a rush hoping for Sunday lunch. The lady behind the bar was lovely . We were lucky enough to have Sunday roast and we weren't disappointed. Absolutely fab. Better than many high end places in Crickhowell. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Only stayed for one drink whilst visiting Abergavenny. Beer was good. Belongs to Brains Brewery chain so only in-house beers sold from what I saw. Food available also.

Perfect pub for a rainy day in Abergavenny. We popped in while we were house hunting nearby and were given such a lovely welcome! Service was outstanding. Food was lovely, home cooked chips with ham and eggs for just £9.50. Made us feel really positive about the area. Also dog friendly!

Straightforward traditional pub, decent food and prices and comfortable atmosphere. The variety of beer has improved lately. Still well priced good quality food. Monday is cheap beer day! Very good meeting room upstairs. Recently held a function in the Hen and Chickens and everyone said they enjoyed the buffet for 30 people.

Popped in here during my 65th birthday trip to Abergavenny. Brains Dark on tap is absolutely superb 👌

Saturday 23 September 2023 This is the best real ale pub in Abergavenny what a lovely range of well-kept real ales fro Braines brewery was on offer The atmosphere in her was lovely, and the pub itself was a place of grandness. The lady behind ths bar was of great knowledge of all local pubs in Abergavenny Well done, all involved

We went to the Hen and Chicks because we heard there was a good band playing - we were not disappointed. Brill band and Thatcher's Haze on draft.

So we’ve just had the fish finger sandwiches (yes I’m a grown man) but absolutely awesome, they buy cod and then make there own fish fingers, lovely fresh bread and a few chips on the side, you have to try it, lovely, thank you 🙏

Excellent meal and great price I had the fries with chicken chilli sandwich £8 and my husband the steak £12 both were lovely meals and really tasty and plenty of food, lovely staff too ,thankyou be back soon , ps flacky paint bugged me lol

A dog friendly pub with a good selection of beers and probably the best pizzas on north street. Service at the bar can be a bit chaotic at times though.

Popped in for a light lunch, decided to try the Beef and Dripping (steak) Bloomer. Superb!! Bread was crunchy, steak cooked to perfection, chips were to die for. The legacy of Peter May's Beef 'n' Dripping lives on. Sat outside in absolute sunspot Well done Kelly and team

Wow, just wow! Passing through and saw this place was pet friendly, and it most certainly was! Such a warm and friendly welcome to us and our dogs, great food, great pints, what more could you ask for.

Forget Spoons!! If you want GOOD food and a lovely atmosphere then this is THE place to be in Abergavenny!! Wifey had Gammon n Chips, I had hand carved Ham and Poached Eggs!! Sensational! You will NOT be disappointed and won’t be out of pocket either. Thank you so much for a wonderful meal to finish our 5 day Easter break - on our way home to the Midlands with work tomorrow.

A old fashioned town pub . Called in on way to a show in town hall . Will return another day when we have more time.

-Lady behind the bar really friendly -Drinks good -Ham and egg very good, fish and chips no that so (cod was hidden inside a far too greasy batter) -Ambient, so so. Amazing how a single customer ca spoil a meal. Language, farting and laughing about his own manners...simply 🤢 I would suggest the staff to advise people that is going to eat to seat in a different area if the customers on the darts area can't behave themselves. I would go back to drink there if I was sure not to find that kind of "animal" on the premises.

We booked last minute as 14 people and 2 dogs. They accommodated us so well and gave us a private area with dog bowels for our pooches. The food was amazing! We had roasts which were the best I’ve ever eaten. Everything is homemade and delicious. The staff are so lovely aswell. Thank you for a lovely lunch

We are staying in the area for the weekend and were looking for a pub that could accommodate 13 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs at short notice. After little success we called The Hen and Chicken who were really helpful and managed to fit us in at lunchtime today. This is a really friendly pub and we were made to feel very welcome. The menu was great and all of our food was fantastic, especially the roasts! The staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area next. Well done and thank you to all the staff.

Spent a couple of hours at this pub on Monday afternoon . First time visit. The friendliness of the staff and the locals was excellent. Felt really at home. Food was great (try the pork and stuffing sandwich - superb) and inexpensive. Will definitely return as this was ‘our kind of pub’. Thanks again.

They host many events and live music, including an eclectic folk band who will blow you away on the first Sunday of every month. This wonderful pub is inclusive, warm and friendly and the regulars here are full of charm and character. Without a doubt, it is the best pub in town!

We had Masonic Meeting in Abergavenny and needed somewhere to dine. So glad we went to Hen And chicks. 17 dined service was good food superb. We are going back in June.

A lovely,friendly local pub with great food and service.We stopped off here on xmas eve for a beer and meal.Theres plenty of choice for vegetarians luckily.The lasagne was delicious and tasty and served with garlic ciabatta.Weve eaten here before and will definately in the future.A lovely atmosphere and a real traditional feel.Would recomend.

Came in for food whilst visiting Abergavenny. The food was delicious and the portion size was great, I had the roast pork and stuffing sandwich and it was amazing! Kelly the landlady was really friendly and there was a nice atmosphere in there. Will definitely visit again when I'm next in town!

Popped in last week on a birthday trip to Aber. It's a great locals pub. Everyone was friendly enough, and although there were only a few real ales on, the beer was in great condition and a cheap pint too! Will definitely visit again if in the area ☺️

Visited as I wanted to watch the rugby, only televised on Amazon Prime, and was very please to be able to eat, have refreshments and enjoy the game in their upstairs function room. Fabulous atmosphere and one of the few establishment television the rugby this year.

Proper pub with good beer and there is always some mad interesting characters drinking here. Good times

Turned up quite late on a Friday night and couldn’t be more welcoming. Found crayons for my toddler and just generally made us feel like they wanted us to be here. Definitely recommend for families with children.

Great food. Able to get food and take drink upstairs to watch rugby on the big screen. Great for a quiet little drink or food downstairs as well.

We called in after a meeting close by, it has been sometime since I have been there, but I was pleased to see it was a proper pub, pub. Good old fashion pub full of atmosphere and will look forward to future visits.
