Haystack Cafe in Swansea

Served by Joanne. She was so welcoming and friendly. She took my order, repeated it back to me to confirm it was right and her outstanding customer service throughout our visit had made us want to come back. Stunning food and quick service. Definitely be back!!!!!

"Underwhelming" is the word I would pick to describe my experience at Haystack earlier this week. I had heard a lot of good things about this place and decided to give it a go myself. The place was packed and though I was able to secure a table, I struggled to order via the app (WiFi was bad and data didn't work). Eventually, I gave up and ordered at the till, and had to wait five minutes, as the employees were frantically running around doing other things. The food (I ordered "The Haystack") looked amazing, but tasted very average. I'd give the flat white a better score - this was probably the highlight of the trip. Parking is accessible, and the cafe is easy to find, but Haystack seems very understaffed and could do with an extra server at the least. The stress was evident on the faces of all employees, and this took away from my experience. I'd be willing to give it another go some time, but I won't be rushing back.

Delicious food, got the Kinder pancakes and a side of potato tots with smoked salmon. Lovely friendly staff! Great little place, always super busy! Can tend to be a bit pricey but lovely as a treat :)

This is such a nice place. The food is great as well as the staff. Only wish you could book tables to guarantee you get a table. Wish there was more parking as it gets very busy.

Stunning breakfast on our date day, local parking which was free and the best menu! All around £10-15 quid but quality was great! Deffo a great spot for a treat or a moment to remember. Place was busy on an early Monday morning but still didn't wait long for grub. Coffee and ingredients are local. Coaltown coffee and knipes and co which is great to see. Clean and tidy, nice staff and all the decor is pretty neat and trendy! We loved our American pancakes and we loved the XL breakfast. Plenty of syrups and styles for coffee to so we both had our favourites!

Walked in and instantly one of the tiny staff members had the biggest sighs and eye rolls from behind the counter, obviously couldn't face having to deal with any more customers. Instantly felt like walking out the door. Utterly miserable, surly service throughout our time there. Horrible experience and won't be back

A top notch spot to get some delicious food and coffee. Great atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, tempting specials and excellent eats. Bravo on the Mount Snowdon (March special) -hats off to the chefs! Will be back again for another meal soon!

Absolutely stunning food, cosy interior and fabulous staff. Always order far too much as can never decide between sweet or savoury but never any regrets!!

Been twice (so far!). Both times had a breakfast or one of the specials (cheese toastie with kale) and both absolutely scrumptious 🤤 I'm amazed I've been here twice now and resisted actually having pancakes, mainly because I've been too full to order any more! The presentation and taste are both amazing and I love supporting local businesses so they'll definitely be getting more of my custom in the future. Diolch Haystack! ❤️

Been several times now and quality of food is stunning! Had pancakes and brunch bagel and recommend both! Their pancakes are 👌! A plus that its dog friendly too!

I wish i didn’t even have to put one star for the service. Came for breakfast last week for my friends birthday, we were told by Ameera there was a 30 minute wait so we waited. We then went back in and was told by her again that it was a 30 minute wait, then to our surprise we saw people who were behind us in the queue go in before us. We had then found out that there was a list that we were supposed to join that the waitress Ameera did not tell us about. Overall we waited around 45 minutes not on the list and 30 minutes on the list. I am extremely disappointed with the service from this waitres, although i must add all of the other waitress were lovely!

Loved it, great theme, comfortable and friendly atmosphere, background music was quality and XL breakfast was a solid 9/10 👍 Nice to have coaltown coffee.

THE LIST. What is THE LIST? How do you get on the LIST? Who controls the LIST? Woe betide you if you don't get on THE LIST! Went in today for some lunch. A number of tables empty yet dirty. Stood around waiting to be seated or at least greeted as the kids working chatted with their mates. Asked if we could sit at one of the dirty tables. No apparently we need to get on THE LIST and there's a half hour wait. Do not come here unless you're mates with them or don't mind staff chewing wasps whilst they're attempting customer service.

Food looks better than it is, breakfast stack is good but sometimes greasy. Pancakes are good but stodgy. Coffee is always good. Parking can be an issue when busy. Avoid on a Saturday morning or you’ll be waiting for a table. Service is hit and miss.

1 hour wait for a table. Food was horrible. £7 for 2 pancakes with bananas and syrup. There was 5 small banana slices and to much syrup. And my dads girlfriend almost died falling down the stairs if she wasn't holding on the banisters. She cut her hand badly.

Always fabulous food at Haystack, so popular, hardly surprising. Looking forward to my next visit 😁

Best coffee in Wales!! Lovely American pancakes! Great place.

Super tasty food, but the service was absolutely shocking!!!!!!! We sat down and my food came out pretty quickly. My husbands came out 20 minutes later, by which point I had eaten mine. The husbands milkshake then came out after his food arrived and I had to ask where my can of coke was!!! Even though the food was nice, the rest of the experience was shocking and we won’t be returning. Overrated.

Coffee had 2 large chips in cup ask to change just poured coffee in different cup didn't make fresh one 😡 Got our order wrong did say but did nothing had to swap eggs round at table For £10.95 each and £3.50 for coffee I would have expected better service

Oh my days, stop what you are doing and get yourself to this little gem of a place. This place is busy so you may need to wait for a table but you will not be disappointed by it. The staff are always friendly, polite and create a great atmosphere. Highly recommend

Extremely tasty food. I had the Xmas foot long pig in blanket roll. Very, very nice and quite a plate full. I was the pig in blanket after eating it. Would recommend Gluten free options available

Best Lotus Biscoff pancakes ever!

It was full when we arrived so staff asked for my name and mobile number, adding they would text me when a table was free. Within a couple of minutes we had a message on WhatsApp, from Carbonara, a company based in Pittsburgh, stating we would have a 15-20 minute wait for a table. We waited in the car for 28 minutes before another WhatsApp message from Carbonara invited us in for our meal. We had two vegetarian breakfasts, a flat white and an Americano. The food was very nice although a little cold. At first I thought it didn't look like a lot but it was and I left with a full belly. It was tasty and cooked well. There are however two points I must mention, even though this shouldn't distract from the fact that the food was good. Firstly, I did not give permission to have my name and telephone number passed to some company in Pittsburgh. I was not informed that when they said they would text me to say the table was free, they meant they would pass my number onto an external company. I visited the company's website and their terms and conditions says: 'Carbonara is based in the United States and information about you will be accessed and transferred to entities located around the world. Some of these entities may be located in countries (such as the United States) that do not legally require the same level of protection for personal information as your home country.' That is shocking! Secondly, the place could do with a clean. The floor and stairs had layers of food spilt all over them and the tables would benefit from a proper wipe down too. This wasn't good. In summary: Lovely staff, lovely food, but data protection and cafe cleanliness problems.

Great service lovely welcome making the atmosphere great and popular as all tables full and busy making you feel like your in a barn with all the miss match furniture some chairs also broken portion of food are plenty full I just found my sausage a bit under cooked and bacon over cooked but that could be personal taste definitely worth a visit

Went on the Saturday, table was ready within 30 mins of asking despite being busy so happy about the quick turn around. I was positioned upstairs which was nice and quiet. The food tasted incredible BUT flys everywhere upstairs, they landed on my food and I killed roughly 8 flys - was not impressed!!! We were sat close to a door which could have been the origin but then the table shouldn't be positioned anywhere near there in the first place. For the respect of everyone, I beg you remove the table away from the door upstairs nearest the sink. No one wants to have a battle with insects when trying to eat ESPECIALLY ON A SATURDAY MORNING AFTER BINGE DRINKING THE NIGHT BEFORE (spew emoji)

Popular cafe destination. Visited on a Saturday morning. Not surprisingly it was busy. However they operate a text based notification, so we opted to wait, and duly got our text after about twenty minutes. Nice meals and coffee.

I love it here and I make a point of coming every time I visit Swansea (from East Anglia!!!). The specials taste amazing, always deliver and worth the money. The staff are all really friendly too. The lady who served me and my hungover friend on Sunday was called Tegan and she was particularly lovely.

I had Ameera serve me the other day & she was so lovely & bubbly. Her service was quick & efficient & she did it all with a smile despite how busy it was inside. Food was amazing as well. Will definitely be returning again!!

Worth every second when detouring from the motorway. Parking could be limited but well worth it. Lovely welcome and introduction to what is what. Fabulous coffee and the most superb full plate of breakfast, all with a slight spin on traditional (think full-english INCL chillies). Will def fiond journeys to take up and down the M5 for this!!!

So friendly and welcoming the service was fast and the food was really good. They also are EXTREMELY dog friendly with water and a pupa chino offered.

First time at the Haystack and won't be my last. Arrived just after 9am on saturday and managed to get the last table down stairs. Good selection, if slightly on the higher price range than our local cafe. We went for the breakfast and bagel,both were really good but the bagel was amazing! Also ordered a side of the tater tots and they were yummy.

Overall we like this place the atmosphere is usually good and it's quite a cosy little place. Don't mind waiting for a table when it's busy. We usually sit in the car and wait for the WhatsApp message to tell us our table is ready. The wait was 40 to 50 minutes today but table was ready under 15. The girl who met us at the door told us a table but didn't bring us menus had to get one from the table next door which was empty As usual my children wanted pancakes and I had the crumpet stack. Mine came out very quickly which was fine but we then waited a good 20min for the pancakes. I had already finished mine and still we were waiting. I had to ask the servers for the pancakes and miraculously they appeared within a minute so seems likely they were sitting around somewhere waiting to be brought out. This has happened before. They have two kitchens. One makes pancakes and the other cooked breakfasts. They really need to communicate better with each other. They cope less well when it's busy at the weekend. Food is excellent but pricey. Two lots of pancakes crumpet stack two apple juice and breakfast tea came to about £40. I recommend the churro pancakes. They are fab and good for sharing.

Had a very bad experience. We had to wait for over an hour to be seated. I ordered the haystack. The poached egg was fully hard boiled and there were way too many fried onions in the plate. The food overall was terrible. This place is definitely not worth waiting an hour for. They should consider adding bookings

Used this morning , after 3 years of my partner non stop telling me how great it was . When we arrived (9am ) it was only one other table with customers before us . It was homely , rustic and quirky decor . It was filling up fast so we opted to order food over the app . We got our order in before anyone got up to queue . We ordered breakfast and hot drinks . We waited a good 40 mins for the food , watching everyone who ordered before us eat and get there drinks . We finished our food and still did not have our drinks . Normaly , wouldnt places give drinks prior to eating ? We had to ask for the drinks , remind . When the drinks came the lady was super apologetic. We didn’t make a drama over it , and smiled it off . However if using the app delays service it’s some things they should remove . Luckily we wasn’t in a rush or on a time scale . The lady's serving where super polite , professional and food was absolute amazing . So minus that hic up it’s worth noting it was great .

Everything on the menu is delicious and unique, the staff are lovely and the atmosphere / decor is incredible! I could sit for hours in Haystacks just looking around and eating pancakes!! 😁 Absolutely love it it!

Ordered thr gingerbread pancakes. Wait time was alright but when it's busy it can be a bit of a challenge to get a seat depending on availability. Staff were very friendly. Pancakes were good too

Brought my daughter to Haystack Cafe for her birthday breakfast and as usual these guys have hit it out of the park! The level of quality, care and effort these guys squeeze into the food, the branding and the atmosphere is truly top class 👌 I had the Christmas Special Ho! Ho! Ho! Stacks and Elena had a farmer breakfast with a pistachio hot chocolate 🙌 Keep up the fantastic work guys ❤️

First time here with my nan today and I couldn't have asked for a better meal with the best customer service I have seen. The food was spectacular definitely coming back.

Check out their cozy cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor area even allowed a large black Labrador and it is covered and has a free standing electric heater. Features S'Mores pancakes and loaded tater tots!

Really disappointing service. Waited outside for a table for 40 mins - they took our number and said they’d call us. Went back to check and they’d given the table to someone else - no apology, no offer of another table, and the original waiter who took our number was too embarrassed to come over. Angry and hungry. Do better!

First visit - a good sign as it was very busy! Polite staff and plenty of breakfast/brunch options catering for both modern and traditional tastes. We had a vegetarian & vegan breakfast (see pics). The American style pancake stacks seemed very popular too.

What a fab little place. Amazing situe. Staff all amazing and willing to help and just have a chat if they've got time. It always seems to be packed to ready to burst. Hard to get a seat ,but hey that's what comes with great food and amazingly friendly and helpful staff............and no I ain't been payed to write this, go, check this place of bewilderment and wonder. You'll thank me I swear. Happy eating guys.
