Hawksmoor Manchester in Manchester

I've eaten at every single Hawksmoor in the UK except one over the last 12 years or so and this is the worst service by far. 1. Order wrong (fillet instead of rump) it happens, no issue 2. Steaks put down in the wrong place 3 times (a game of beef pass the parcel) not ideal 3. A side dish forgotten, promised, then out of stock 4. Bill came with an extra fillet still on it (couldn't be bothered to check it?) And the sides are still on too. Apparently we'd misunderstood and he only meant the sides of the person that didn't get them anyway. Not the other two of us who had our steaks passed around for a few minutes. All crowned off with an insincere apology. Don't get me wrong, the food was exceptional, and everybody else we spoke to was great.

Cocktail - delicious, from off book, served with charm and bonhomie and GORGROUS forearms. table service - friendly, welcoming, understanding of my anxious babbling (note: phone service was super friendly and they got me the perfect table!) Roast beef - glorious, top tier yorkies, delicioys gravy, and nothing that will sound astoundingly different but every taste was distinct and GOOD! Just top quality! and when a welsh girl and a girl ftom t'north willingly pay 25 a head for roast dinner with no complaints, you know it's good! atmosphere is great! the decor is dark but not oppressive! very queer eye "this is what manly decor looks like".

Couldn’t recommend more! We came for a 28th birthday meal and had an amazing experience start to finish. Gorgeous decor and the best service I’ve had in a long time- thank you Owaine!!! One of the best steaks and meals out in a long time. Expensive but worth every penny!

Everything we ate was amazing, steak was cooked to perfection, service was amazing. I only had one slight criticism, the Yorkshire pudding was slightly burnt 😂 but seeing as they gave me a YP on a Thursday night I’ll forgive them that. Can’t recommend highly enough

Nick, one of the assistant Managers at Hawksmoor went over and above at sorting out our return to this fine restaurant for my wife and mines 25th wedding anniversary. We had a lovely table and our server (cooper I think his name was) was so helpful, professional and knowledgeable. The food was absolutely exceptional. We had Oysters, carpaccio, Porterhouse and sirloin. We then got chatting to the wine sommelier as she was so knowledgeable. She very kindly paired a dessert wine with our desserts and totally nailed it. Great night to celebrate our 25 years, we shall return.

Absolutely my favourite restaurant in Manchester, me and my wife have been coming for 4 years regularly as the food is divine and the service is like no other. If you have slightest issue, they will bend over backwards to ensure you’re satisfied with your meal as well giving you complimentary extras. We thoroughly recommend you accompany your steak with the beef dripping fries and bone marrow gravy, washed down with their own signature Malbec. Also their roast dinners are to die for.

It was a terrible experience. The food was extremely tasteless and smelly. The hamburger had hard pieces in it. The steak did not come the way we wanted. I definitely do not recommend it.

OMG what a fabulous experience the greeting by all the staff was warm and friendly, a special shout to Charlotte and Ryan both of whom treated us like royalty. Service and food complementedeaxh other perfectly both being top notch. The Vietnamese oysters where fantastic, my wife had the Devon crab on sourdough toast which she described as "another level" For mains I had the pudding chips and peas, the chips had a lovely crunch and cloud like inners, the suit was cooked to perfection and the beef inside was so succulent, both complimented by perfectly cooked peas and gravy. My wife had the fillet steak which you could cut with a spoon it was that tender. Why have I not tried this before I don't know but if you get chance visit its fantastic!

Just had Sunday lunch with the family, roast beef all the trimmings and cauliflower cheese, chocolate tart and ice cream to follow 👌

The food and service were great, couldn't fault it. Staff were attentive and the atmosphere was pleasant. Overall, it was good value for money.

A big thank you to the lovely waitress whom served us at Hawsmoor, she really made our 15th Year anniversary special!! My boyfriend enjoyed his rib eye steak and I enjoyed my monkfish main. It was a good suggestion by the waitress to go for the monkfish as I prefer lighter tasting foods.

Really good Sunday roast especially the meat and roasties. Price is on the dear side but with the service and quality of food provided it’s most definitely worth. I would recommend for the Sunday roast to get the sharing platter for one of the cuts of meats on the blackboard rather than the regular Sunday roast as it’s a much better experience.

Absolutely top notch. Food, service was all well above the mark. We had an absolutely amazing server, somm and bus boys. Absolutely cannot say enough good about it. I thought the price to value ratio was spot on. Will definitely return next time we’re in town!

We booked in order to have a pre theatre meal and yes - you need to leave enough time to savour this experience! The wine is expensive, as you would expect but if you are on a budget even Hawksmoor's cheapest by the glass wine is beyond superlatives. As you would expect from other reviews, the food and service was excellent. I had the slow cooked lamb shank which was perfect. My friend had the Lunchtime Express Menu and having tasted it, I can agree it was simply the best steak I have ever tasted. Worth another trip to Manchester just for the steak! My friend of course managed three courses including the sticky toffee pudding which was glorious and lived up to the expectations created by other reviewers. I did not have any room for desert so clearly the lemon sorbet was a must 🤣 We will certainly be back in the future and I look forward to trying the fish and seafood. Hawksmoor quite simply made a very rare midweek trip away into a holiday - a whole wonderful day we will always remember.My only regret is for the server who first met us upstairs whose heart I broke because she couldn't get time off to see Iain McKellen - this was how we finished the end of our wonderful evening with Hawksmoor and the Opera House:

This was our first visit to Manchester Hawksmoor as we live near Liverpool. The Liverpool one is superb. The Manchester Hawksmoor was also fantastic. Food 10 out of 10 Staff 11 out of 10 Ambiance 10 out of 10. Looking forward to returning.

Been to Hawksmoor several times now and it's my number one place to eat out in Manchester. The food is amazing yes, but the atmosphere and service is what really sets it apart. The staff really can't do enough for you and it makes an evening there memorable. Always top of my list to go to when I want to celebrate an occasion!

All food cooked to perfection. Staff were very friendly. They have a lot of seats and it seemed almost fully booked at lunch time so it was very loud in there. Not a problem for us but some may not enjoy that. Didn't mind the price of the steak at all but to charge £6 for chips and £6 for "greens" to give approximately 10 chips and 5 cabbage leaves felt really stingy and annoyed us a little

We were served by Danny, Carmen and Marie on Monday night and they couldn’t have been nicer. So kind and generous. All of the team that we encountered were incredible. Food was also amazing - thank you guys! We’ll be back as soon as we can💗

Really enjoyed the experience but don’t go unless you have your credit card with you it is expensive just for a steak as you have to pay for all extras such as chips or potatoes even for some gravy. When the waitress asked do you want some water and poured out our water into our class on the table we didn’t know it would cost us £15 for a bottle of water great service and was very busy so booking is a must enjoyed it except the prices unfortunately

Food was good despite being a bit expensive. We had the rump and the shortrib and the shortrib fell off the bone perfectly. Steak was slightly overdone but tasty. Would eat here again to try the steak pudding which looked delicious on the table next to us.

Chateaubriand, creamed spinach and chips are incredible. First visit, won't be the last.

This place was UNBELIEVABLE!!! Literally couldn’t speak highly enough of it. I’ve seen some miserable Karen’s moan about them not having their favourite starter or running out of lobster. It’s literally fresh meat and fish every day…..they’re gonna run out of certain things so get a grip. The service from start to finish was nothing short of sensational. Our server Peter was very personable, knew it was our anniversary and couldn’t have done any more for us and was also very knowledgable about everything on the menu, it was like he was a personal friend, I would go back just for him! It was also very busy when we arrived and from the get go we were made aware it could take a little longer than normal to be served which was absolutely fine.The ribeye and sirloin were cooked perfectly(also absolutely huge), the mash and gravy unreal and the bone marrow gravy was probably the best I’ve ever had. Seen some people moan it’s expensive……it’s Manchester City centre in one of the nicest restaurants around…..of course it’s gonna be more than you’d usually pay…..grow up or go to spoons. Anyone who moans about this place clearly hasn’t got much going on in their life and to any sane person out there it’s well worth it!!! Oh and by the way the hot chocolate tart and peanut butter shortbread would make even the most miserable Karen crack a smile. Thanks for a lovely evening guys

Great meal, good atmosphere and lovely staff

We were a large party of 8 who visited as part of a working trip to Manchester on a Sunday evening. Originally the party size was 7 and when we called to adjust the restaurant was very accommodating and said it would only mean a short wait while they found us a different table. First tick. Sure enough in the time it took to have drink we were seated at a long table. We’d previously called ahead to ask if it was ok to bring our own wine for the dinner and pay corkage. Again no problem. The staff asked us what order we wanted the bottles served in, and whether we wanted them decanted. Second tick. Food menus were explained and cuts advised on. Orders taken and everyone got the right dish at the right time. Another tick. Carmen our server was just excellent. Our table was a mix of English and Australian and when Carmen said she was from Bilbao I told her my husband and I were headed there as part of a holiday this summer. During the meal, Carmen came up to me with a long list of recommendations for Bilbao! So incredibly kind of her to take the time to do that. Hats off to Hawksmoor. I will definitely be back, and hugs kudos to Carmen for excellent and personalised service

Did not have any draft beer only had small cans of lager that were terrible. What a shame can’t understand why restaurants don’t have draft beers

Outstanding steak experience. On the expensive side, but worth every penny. The Fillets, Tomahawk, and T-Bones were cooked to perfection. A great selection of wines to go with your steaks. There is also a fantastic selection of cocktails to enjoy. You can expect great service on your night out without being rushed.

Our waiter provided exceptional service and was a good laugh. The food was equally amazing, second time in Hawksmoor both times it’s been amazing can not fault the service provided and would highly recommend

Lovely restaurant with great steaks and excellent service. Only reason I haven't given them top marks is because the burger we shared as a starter was overcooked and had a burnt taste to it. Was disappointed about that but the rest of the meal was great. Not a cheap experience but we expected that. Overall we had a great evening there and would happily go again as a nice treat.

Steak, Red wine! Ok you may need more details than that but in essence. The staff are very professional and attention to detail is unquestionably. I was here for business meeting and had all the space required to order but with politeness to interrupt that escapes other restaurants. The menu was good, with a nice selection, worth a note, if you do order stake and no accompaniments at the time you will literally get a plate and a stake, definitely try the mash potatoes and greens and marrow gravy. Limited cocktail menu but hardly a major issue, that's what the the alchemist and botanist are there for.

Our visit to Hawksmoor Manchester to celebrate our daughter's birthday was flawless. From start to finish the staff were excellent, professional and super friendly. The interior space is full of character and apparently an old court house and really interesting, with lots of break off spaces so its never too crowded and you can hear yourself speak. The ambience is relaxed and classy, its the kind of place you can wear casual or smart clothes and not feel out of place. The classic old school contemporary interior decor is just lovely and cosy. We had a mix of cocktails and beers and all were delicious. The Sunday lunch was so delicious, we chose the sharing Sunday feasting for 2 or more. When everything arrived and filled the table, it was a sight to behold. The star of the show is obviously the beef which was cooked to perfection. But the often overlooked vegetables were also tasty, perfect roast potatoes, delicious cauliflower cheese, and the gorgeous indulgent stuffing, it was a feast for the senses. Also worth noting was the seating was super comfy, it just seemed every detail had been thought about and together made for a flawless experience. I cannot speak highly enough about it and we will certainly find an excuse to go back 100%.

Thoroughly enjoyed our most recent visit here for a Saturday lunch. Had a couple of excellent cocktails, the Vietnamese oysters for starters and our usual Porterhouse steak which was perfectly cooked rare. Also had the Tunworth mash which was cheesy and delicious, the creamed greens and the salty and rich anchovy Hollandaise as our source. Service and food was all spot on and although it wasn't cheap it was well worth it as a treat.

Service was great! Steak was quite chewy and fatty unfortunately, but the rest of the meal was really good.

Hawkmoor does so many things well. The service. The ambience. The atmosphere. What it doesn’t do is particularly good food. I believe that people who rate the Hawksmoor are just kidding themselves. £43 for a fairly tasteless fillet on a plate. Just tasted bland and somewhat chewy. How do they cook the steaks? Ask yourself that question. You don’t know do you! Chips are just bland and tasteless too. Peppercorn sauce is too thin. I admit that the Hawksmoor is probably the best steak restaurant of the lot, but your paying for the service and the experience, not the food which is just bang average. I think people are starting to sus the HM out now. Overpriced and nothing special. That said, in manchester there’s always enough of a crowd to pack the place out. I won’t be back in a hurry.

Staff here a very friendly. I went there without a reservation not knowing they tend to be very busy and advise to book a table before hand, but they were able to accommodate me and squeeze in a table for me. The food experience was amazing, my taste buds got a treat 😋 would definitely advise to book a table in advance as they are very busy everyday apparently. Very pricy but worth ever penny 👌

Visited here recently for my husbands birthday lunch. The ribs were great as starters but sadly, what followed was just nothing short of poor. The waiting time was horrendous. An hour and 45 minutes to be served ribs and lunch. No one came to offer us any drinks after the first and no one came to ask how our food was. When the mains arrived, the fries were stone cold. The waiter was informed and they said that they would replace these. I asked that the mains be placed under the hot lamps, to keep them warm but was told there was no need, as the fries would be “seconds”. 7 minutes later, the fries arrived. My steak was almost eaten, apart from the bit I saved to go with the fries. The steak itself was chewy and of poor quality. It was also served cold. The burger was tepid in temperature inside but we were hungry and my husband decided to just eat this anyway, whilst waiting for his fries. No offer of the fries (that we had to pay extra for, as they don’t come with the burger) to be removed from the bill and the service charge was still applied. Would we return? Absolutely not! There are far nicer places, for a £104 lunch. Avoid!!

Taste of food was outstanding as usual - have visited various Hawksmoor locations and been to Manchester multiple times. However, I felt a bit hard done by on my portion size. Went to try the new lunch menu and ordered the short rib au poivre - this came with only 1 short rib and compared to my partners order of the beef pudding seemed like a significantly smaller portion size for a similar price. It tasted incredible, but I would have loved more for my money.

I’d heard much about Hawksmoor and as such I and my party were looking forward to our visit. Arriving at 7 pm on a Friday evening we were seated swiftly on a table which was a little dark (I guess it could have been referred to as “intimate” but a round table for six folk doesn’t really lend itself to intimacy!) … anyway we progressed the ordering process using phone torches to read the menu. Beer arrived promptly, and was very good, although the pints ordered were about 300 ml at pint prices. Three of our party requested 300 gram steaks … but staggeringly there was no availability … and we were advised that couples should perhaps contemplate sharing Porterhouse steaks instead. This option didn’t suit all parties, but compromise was needed so the Porterhouse option was accepted. Sadly, no 600 gram Porterhouse or (when requested) T-Bone steaks were available either …. The smallest was 750 gram (25% larger than required) and these were about £90 each - rather a lot for something we didn’t really want. Faced with the option of walking out or Hobson’s choice, we decided to make the best of a bad job and enjoyed our steaks which arrived in good time. The beef dripping chips were delicious, although the portion size was disappointing for the £5.75 price; however they proved to be an outstanding bargain when compared to the £7 garlic mushrooms … as there were barely physically plural … so hardly a snip at £3.50 each!!! We also added some sauces to our order … sadly, not free even on a £90 steak. A £12 bottle of red was also added to our order … (supermarket price) this came in at a cool £65.00. Two G&Ts were also ordered, plus a soft drink and plenty of water. The bill was touching £550 when it arrived, which included a healthy chunk of service charge … and gave me a bout of indigestion …. we left within 100 minutes of arriving. Hawksmoor undoubtedly provided good quality food, but running a steak restaurant without a decent range of meat is rather like having a sweet shop without any Mars bars. Pricing seemed ridiculous high and was certainly not assisted by a lack of choice at a relatively early evening time. However, the place seemed very busy, so I assume that I am very much out of touch central Manchester trends.

Visited Friday lunch time ,service was brilliant but was let down by the food and drinks. My starter was barely warm and my husband's steak was extremely salty and tough. Cocktails were tiny and full of ice and for the average cost of £15 each. The dessert I ordered was lacking any sweetness really too . I wouldn't recommend a visit.

Been here well over ten times with family and on business and have never had a bad meal. It’s consistently brilliant. Had the two/three course deal often which we find superb value. Even on this deal it’s never a cheap outing as the costs mount with drinks. However we think it’s great value. The service is perfect every time. The location is excellent and such a great atmosphere inside. The service was excellent and they really took care of us and other guests. Food was also oustanding and came in a timely manner (we had a theatre show to go to). We went for my mums birthday and they surprised her with a special treat which was so lovely. Thanks for a lovely evening :)

Came foe Express as had theatre at 7.30pm. Service excellent, friendly and knowledgeable staff. The food was beautiful and as it was my birthday, Happy birthday written on my dessert plate and a candle. I can recommend both the bitter salad and the rhubarb pavlova (coming from NZ, nicest pavlova I have had in the UK) . My steak was perfect..thank you for making my birthday so memorable

Visited for drinks on previous occasions but first time for lunch. Easy booking process online Arrived early and our table was available. Restaurant area full, great atmosphere Drinks order taken and delivered swiftly Waiter attentive and answered all our questions regarding the food on offer. Food ordered arrived well presented, piping hot and tasty. No room for a dessert. Never felt rushed. Not the cheapest but well worth a visit as a treat Will definitely return

Honestly one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The staff were so lovely, the food was incredible and the building was beautiful. They were very conscientious about my gluten allergy and made slight tweaks to the menu so I could eat what I wanted. Would recommend to anyone.

Don’t get me wrong The steak we had to share was lovely but at £180 I nearly fell of my chair. All in bill came to over £290 for, then wanted to charge an additional 12.5 % on top, we did give a tip as it wasn’t the waiters fault, but just because we didn’t give a full tip, they never even said goodbye. We sat in the bar are too, so was quite dull and dismal, will be be returning most definitely not. I can have a weekend in Spain including a lovely steak cooked on a charcoal fire for not much more

Always a brilliant experience whenever we dine here. On this occasion we had the Sunday roast, chateaubriand and stuffing - a combination we would highly recommend! Our waitress for the evening, Chelsey, was faultless. Honestly incredible service and made us feel like family. She met every request with a smile and we hope we meet her again next time. The best restaurant in Manchester, consistently good every single time.

First time here after a few friends saying it was great. Thought we'd treat ourselves for valentines. Definitely 5 stars, if I could give more I would. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left the staff were all friendly and attentive. Shout out to our server Carmen here as well. She was lovely with a great sense of humour! We went for the prime rib and a few sides. Meat was cooked to perfection and everything tasted great. Ace cocktails as well. It's a bit pricey but completely worth it!

Another great meal at Hawksmoor. One of my friends ordered the bacon & beef starter. Our waiter heard us say we were going to share & so brought an extra Yorkshire pudding. Yes you get Yorkshire puddings with this starter!! Lucious gravy and a jar of the potted bacon and beef too! We were stuffed. The steak pudding is immense and extremely tasty. I had the short rib, which was also delicious. Other friend had the rump and was amazed with the beef fat chips. I do think the wine, although lovely, is over priced but that's Manchester for you really A peanut butter shortbread with a birthday candle in finished off our meal nicely. Thank you Hawksmoor. The most fantastic evening, from start to finish! The food was superb - the crab starter and the carpaccio, sublime steak and the best burger ever, to heavenly puds of a caramelised poached pear dish and rhubarb pavlova. Chelsea was our waitress - she was outstanding in her friendliness, attentiveness and professionalism- what a lovely experience she created for us! As it was Monday we were able to take our own wines and were charged a nominal £5 per bottle corkage- great idea! I cannot recommend the Hawksmoor highly enough

All the staff were welcoming, attentive and friendly. We had a 4 year old with us and all staff talked to him and made him feel very welcome. The restaurant was classy while not being pretentious, and the atmosphere was relaxed and warm. The Sunday dinner sharing platter was outstanding!

From the start, this place passed the ambient control. Great atmosphere nice smell of fresh coffee, really very good beginning. I had heard very good things about this place, so we had high expectations and they did not disappoint that I had the eggs benedict with smoked salmon and wow it was amazing The salmon was great and the eggs perfectly poached. I would recommend 100% this place and I will return definitely next time I will return to Manchester.

Recently had the pleasure of dining at Hawksmoor, the second-ranked steakhouse in the world, and let me tell you, it was an honor to be there. I highly recommend the crab on toast and the beetroot salad – they were phenomenal.Now, onto the steak. While the taste was impeccable, I must admit the presentation was a bit lackluster. Just a plain piece of meat on a plate felt a bit underwhelming. A touch of gravy or some tomato slices could've really elevated the dish visually. Nonetheless, the steak itself was cooked to perfection (I ordered it medium). However, soon after eating, I had to dash to the restroom, which made me question their cleanliness standards. Hopefully, they'll take extra care in the future.Despite that, it was amazing and I recommend anyone to visit here.

The place is very dark. You do not see what you are eating. You need to use a torch from your phone to read the menu. It is also very loud. With 6 people at the table you do not hear what others are saying. Waiters are casual. They are very helpful but difficult to understand. Espresso served cold. Sirlon steak not so clean of the white stuff.

Beautiful steaks, starters and wine.

I love it here, hence 5 stars... it sometimes gets expensive example I had a 400g steak (bloody good👍 ). However , you then have to pay £7.50 for chips, and I had a side of spinach that was £7.50 (again lovely but about half a cup size) so it soon racks up.

By far the best Sunday dinner I’ve had in my life. And this was our first time going. Will not be the last. Food is well worth the price. The beers, at £7.50 for a 330ml can (around £13 a pint) is a bit excessive. Whilst it’s not a place to “skrimp” still think it’s alot for a beer. Cauli cheese was exceptional.

Unbelievable service, and food is excellent.

This was our first visit to Hawksmoor, I’ll be as fair as possible to all myself, the staff and the restaurant itself, I honestly think the atmosphere and decorations were cosy and lovely, but the food and staff fell way below expectations, firstly the food was sort of bland and plain, my mash was supposed to come with the gravy separately but they came together (I dislike the taste of their gravy). The staff were acting as if they didn’t know exist and were not helpful at all, trying to catch their attention was very difficult, they also were very forgetful but apologetic afterwards which doesn’t really help out at the end. I definitely think there’s big room for improvement and I would surely not be visiting back anytime soon.

vivianna was amazing, so welcoming and friendly🥹 made me feel so special on my 21st, she gave me a frozen margarita with happy birthday on it! the food (as always) was incredible. if you come to hawksmoor you MUST get the potted beef for starter or you’re missing out!!! steak amazing too - perfectly cooked. always will be back x

Just posting my review now (this was from a few weeks ago). This place is absolutely amazing, I had heard great things about this restaurant but my expectations were over met for sure. The service was brilliant. The food was so flavourful and to be honest I’ve never had a better meal than it. The chips were to die for. The only note I could make is that the cocktail menu is too small, I would love to see more of a selection in the future.

The best steak I’ve had. We had a selection each cut was cooked perfectly, so much flavour and seasoning and then melts in the mouth when eaten. The starters were great the pork ribs superb and the bone marrow was something a bit different. The service was good. Not bothered too much but very attentive and was there whenever we needed. The ginger beee drink we had was really good as well highly recommend.

Meal for two to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Excellent service, very helpful and helped choose our food and wine. The food was excellent, I cannot fault anything at all. We had three courses, the steak was as ordered and was perfect. The atmosphere was great and we were not hurried along, we stayed about two hours all in all, plenty of time between each course. Perfect and made the occasion even better.
