We had a fantastic time for an evening meal. Food was great and the service was outstanding. TJ was great banter and really helpful … all of the staff were top notch and really impressed us. Details like multiple people delivering food/drinks but all knew exactly who was having what made a difference. Great place, highly recommend and we’ll be back.

Our food was delicious. Steak was cooked perfectly. We got scallops, ribeye, potatoes, spinach, and sticky toffee pudding. Our steak was very delicious and seasoned well. The sticky toffee pudding was really tasty but we substituted the clotted cream with salted Carmel ice cream which was a match made in heaven.

Since relocating from Chicago to London, we have encountered difficulties in locating a reputable steakhouse. Subsequently, we reached the conclusion that the United Kingdom predominantly favors chicken and lamb as opposed to beef. However, our first assumption was incorrect. This restaurant offers some of the highest quality steak available. As an enthusiast of steak, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered a medium rare fillet and it was cooked flawlessly. Perfect crust on the outside, while the interior is pink, tender, and succulent. The hospitality and warmth of the staff members was exceptional. My daughter experienced a mild cough and was unable to consume any drinks. However, she was provided with a ginger-infused drink, which she thoroughly relished. Overall, it was a fantastic experience.

Mothers day ... I know very busy but for high class restaurant you should be able to serve attentively to all customers 😀, if not do not over book if not enough staff.

Amazing food and service. All of the staff went that extra mile. From the Australian bar tender to the amazing, helpful, attentive DT out waitor. He was great. My husband had 1kg of porterhouse steak and it was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend, would definitely come back. Thank you all! X

Came to Hawksmoor on December 21st 2023 during my visit in Edinburgh. The staff are friendly and helpful. The fillet steak was delicious and juicy. I had it cooked medium rare, the Mac and cheese was flavourful and the chips were fresh and cooked well.

Our favourite restaurant chain, always greeted with a warm and friendly welcome, steak is the best we've ever tried. Staff are attentive, amazing service. We will be returning

We came to Hawksmoor to have a proper Sunday Roast as a treat for my friends birthday weekend away, and we were not disappointed. Staff are so lovely, and the surroundings are fab, so lovely and plush but quirky! I had oysters with a pint of Guinness to start as I have never tried them, they were absolutely delicious! And the roast beef with all the trimmings was perfect. A huge fluffy Yorkshire pudding.. the gravy.. the stuffing.. all amazing. I barely had room for (but DID make room for) a divine bread and butter pudding with rum custard. So enjoyable, and felt very special for the birthday celebrations. Thanks so much!

Stunning building, the staff, meat and cocktails were top class. The sides did leave a bit to be desired. Especially the beef dripping chips.

A very decent place for charcoal grilled meats and really good starters. Recommend going for the big cuts of prime rib or T-bone. Good cocktails too.

The setting is magnificent, subdued atmosphere. For meat lovers this is the place to go.

Lovely venue and great food. Pretty pricey and bit of a pain the do not offer draft beers. Can of their own at 330ml are £6 or £8 each. Service was excellent, plenty staff.

Starter so hot could hardly eat them. So the scallops had little taste. Steak was excellent. Portion of chips , yip not going to say fries was on the frugal side. Creamed spinach was tasty. No draught ales disappointing for a top restaurant of that size. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding. You cant go wrong. Staff , Patrick in particular was very amiable. Overall is it worth the hype. Not so sure.

Came here as a celebration meal and was not disappointed. Gavin was a great host and waiter. His service was friendly and warm without being over bearing or pushy. He was very well informed, talking us through the menu and also sharing some personal favourites and recommendations. We went for the sharing prime rib and an array of sides. The buttered greens (hispi cabbage) were very tasty and the beef dripping chips were great. I wasn't a fan of the macaroni but it was a personal taste not a poor quality product. And the creamed spinach was a little bit too fine in the cut. However the rib of beef was delicious, cooked as recommended it came out medium and had a fantastic flavour. We shared a sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream ice cream and my partner had a flat white to finish. Both were good. We were intrigued by the salted caramel rolos but were too stuffed to try them. Could not recommend this place highly enough. The atmosphere ticked over without having a buzz or being overly busy but it was after 7.30 on a Thursday evening so I was not surprised.

A very disappointing visit. We were very excited to try here. Had heard good things! Unfortunately for us, a lot was missing from the menu, food was overcooked! The service was terrible , really from start to finish was not great! We won't return.

Was really looking forward to trying the Sunday lunch and ended up really disappointed. Roast beef was very tough and chewy. Roast potatoes very overdone and difficult to cut as the outer layer was brick hard. They had run out of stuffing at 2pm and only open at 12pm. Really expected it to be so much better than it was.

I can’t remember having a better steak! We had a chateaubriand to share which was cooked to perfection and served slice in a skillet. Fantastic service by DT who looked after us and made the evening perfect.

The food at Hawksmoor is always good, so is predictably very good here. My experience here though was a reminder that Hawksmoor's reputation - here and nationwide - is based on amazing service. The staff here couldn't have been more accommodating and conscientious given we had small child. All in all, an excellent lunch.

An unforgettable evening at Hawksmoor! The drinks were spot on, delivering exactly what we were craving. As for the Chateaubriand, calling it cooked to perfection would be an understatement – it was hands down the best steak I've ever had. I might never see beef the same way again! The sides were equally impressive, complementing the meal perfectly. A huge thank you to the Hawksmoor team for an evening that surpassed all expectations. 6/5 stars! ***

The Sunday lunch was good, especially the beef, it was excellent. You got a few crunchy carrots and a huge Yorkshire pudding which filled half the plate. The gravy was nice. Wines are expensive and they top you up every time they pass the table so we felt like we were being rushed. Literally as soon as I put my fork down they were asking if we wanted dessert. They moved us to the bar area as they needed the table back (plenty of empty tables) and then they forgot that we needed to pay. A lot of confusion when I asked for the bill from the restaurant- took them about 20 mins to work out what we owed. Even the bar staff said we were more patient than he would have been.

My family had booked as a special treat for Mothers Day. Lovely restaurant and ambience, we had booth table which had been requested so initially all good. However when we came to order we were told roast beef dinners were finished and that was what we had come for, second choice of beef pudding there was only one left so had to choose again. No peas left to go with beef pudding so an alternative side had to be chosen, then we were told no macaroni cheese side. We really felt like walking out. Steaks were excellent, beef pudding filling was tasty but very stodgy crust, burger was ok. Then to crown it all when my husband tipped out his tomato sauce there was an old chip in the bottle. We were horrified. However our server Esther was lovely and tried her best to give us a good experience. By way of compensation she did take some money off our bill. We will be reluctant to return.

The restaurant is in an old bank building and has a wonderful and unique atmosphere. Dinner was out of this world and our server was the best. Would definitely recommend

Beautiful food from the team and wonderful service from Abbey from start to finish thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and felt terrible at the bad reviews some have left as we couldn’t fault the service or food but you’ll see that for yourselves if you decide to go

Absolutely perfect steak and scallops, with delicious rhubarb icecream to finish. Safia (our waitress) should get the Waitress of the Year award - could not have been more helpful, friendly and attentive. Thank you for a lovely evening.

We visited hawksmoor last night, it was a nice place aesthetically and pleasant staff we waited ages for our soft drink to come and had to ask where it was which is fine but seems a bit long considering the restaurant wasn’t that busy. When we received our food we were very happy with it and the chips were absolutely amazing some of the best chips we’ve ever had! As I was eating my steak I came across some really strange purple bits of meat which didn’t really look normal to what I’ve seen before and kind of looked like raw off parts of meat. This really put me off my meal. The waitress kindly took it to the chef to cook it more but it was obvious the bad bits of meat had been cut off as the steak came back quite a bit smaller. To pay £32 for this with no side included felt quite extreme especially as I only ate half of it due to the fleshy raw part. Wouldn’t return here to be honest.

After a couple of visits to the Hawksmoor Edinburgh, there’s no way I can give it anything other than a good review. The food is fantastic, as are the drinks, but we’ve been lucky to have been taken care of by Steven (spelling may be wrong) an absolute legend from Ireland who genuinely is a star. The food and drink can be the best around, but without good service it can be nothing. A solid five stars for me. Great food, great drinks, great staff.

You have to make sure you have been here before you leave Edinburgh. Such a different style of a restaurant. The food is good and the ambient light fit in perfect.

Visited here as a couple, and I was looking forward to the Sunday Roast. Had a reservation for 2pm, arrived at 1.50pm... from the second we walked in, the service was not great. Very abrupt. We were seated at our table, the American waiter we had, was rude, did not listen, and wasn't very helpful. We placed our order and were told we either have to have the roast pink or well done! I asked for medium, was told this wasn't possible, so we'd both have to have pink! We ordered 2 roasts, a side of cauliflower cheese, and mashed potato. The mashed potato was already sold out. We waited about 40 minutes for the roast to arrive. When it did , the beef was very overcooked! Was extremely well done! The potatoes were under done, and the cauliflower cheese was also under done. We did say it was too done for our liking, and the waiter did take one roast of the bill. However, at 3.15pm the waiter informed us we had to leave the table as they had a booking at 3.15pm. So the table is only booked for 1hr 15mins? We hadn't ordered starters or desserts, so how could we have if this was the given time? We still had a glass of wine each to drink, so we found ourselves wondering aimlessly around the restaurant ( the bar was full) with our wine until one member of staff actually helped! We will never return, terrible service!!

Very expensive food and wasn’t hot. We chose the roast dinner option for four people. We did enjoy the food but not sure the sharing roast platter is £36 worth of veg.. Would also recommend taking extra layers as we were very cold in there!

Absolutely outstanding lunch - service is notably good, very personable and professional. Food is always brilliant, and in a beautiful setting. Salmon to start. Bone-in Rib-eye for main, with all the necessary trimmings. Sticky Toffee for pud.

The food and drink were extremely tasty. The service was fantastic. The building is beautiful. I ate here solo, but I would say it would be a much better experience with 2+ people so that you could share sides and appetizers.

if i could give my experience 0 stars i would. the steak and seafood are priced by their weight, which no one explained to me. and the waiter was absolutely no help..rude, condecending and just a mean person, making what should have been a nice evening a disaster. even tho the food was great, i couldn't get out of there fast enough. this server (i think he was american..JR or JP?) is a total disgrace to your establishment. a simple iexplanation of the menu and pricing at the beginning of the dinner would have avoided a bad experience altogehter..something he failed to do.

Was here for lunch at the weekend - I last visited,and reviewed, in 2019. Service was very friendly but slow. They seemed to be short-staffed . Difficult to judge as staff wear their own clothes - so get mixed up with guests! The rump steak, which I like medium to well done, was well done and very chewy - even with a steak knife. There are better steak restaurants in Edinburgh.

The 16th of February 2024. We booked a meal around 3 months in advanced for valentines weekend. After just receiving our meal we were sent out due to a chef setting off the fire alarm. The one bite we got was amazing but we unfortunately didn’t have the 1+ hour time given to wait for our food again and had to go home due to having a baby at home. Nothing above is the restaurants fault of course. Just a bit sad that we couldn’t enjoy our one night together at a lovely restaurant.

Well that's what I call a restaurant! First beautiful building, very elegant and refined! For the dinner everything was flawless from start to finish! The staff was very friendly and the food perfect! Our steak was cooked to perfection, terrific wine recommendation from our sommelier.. And I've rarely ad such a lovely dessert in a restaurant! Special mention too Easther who made the evening perfect, she was both pro and lovely! We will be back next time we are in Edimburgh for sure!

Myself and my husband had a beautiful steak lunch. Servers were very attentive and friendly and food was absolutely delicious can't wait to go back

Out for lunch with 2 friends. Stunning surroundings, quite quiet for a Friday. Had a glass of cava each then ordered mains, beef pudding, hake and (cant recall.). Food very tasty although a little more gravy with the beef pudding may have helped. Bottle of picpoul which was very nice. We continued to chat. Waiter appears and clears table. Water served to table. Half an hour passes. No one asked if we wanted dessert or teas/ coffees. So we got the bill and walked out. Service was added to the bill and paid for but apparently not delivered. Seriously disappointing. It was a special birthday for my friend which was acknowledged when arriving but then completely ignored for the rest of the visit. We won’t be back. There’s plenty of competition who haven’t become complacent.

Sadly the only vegetarian main was unavailable which was a important part of why we chose the hawksmoor. We left the restaurant and choose somewhere else when it became apparent that the only vegetarian options were starters.

Food 4/5 Many interesting options. I love all the sauces we get to choose to come with our steak. My friend’s sirloin tasted very nice, though my mom’s ribeye as a little tough. My monkfish was somewhat bland. The bone marrow and mackerel salad starters were very nice. Service 5/5 Out waiter was very friendly :) Atmosphere 5/5 A beautiful building with brain interiors. I loved the tall, vaulted ceiling and the gentle lighting.

Absolutely loved this restaurant.everything about it ticks your box for a Sunday lunch. Ate here as a family with my son and daughter in law and husband! Lovely ambience,lovely waiting staff and the food is amazing. Whoever runs this restaurant is totally switched on. Service was very good and the Sunday roast was devoured by 2 in our party which they said was really good. Loved the atmosphere and definitely will go back. 10/10

Had the most beautiful birthday meal here this week. I’ve been to most Hawksmoors by now and this definitely exceeded others, the service was wonderful as was the food, and the interior is just stunning! The express menu has to be one of the best deals around too, thank you!

The whole experience was fantastic. First class service, every dish was perfect and delicious I honestly couldn’t fault it. We had the beef and bacon Yorkshire/ crab toast to start and steaks for mains. Steak was first class cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful and all the sides also. The waiter was excellent and yes it very expensive but it was worth it.

Last year my wife and I went for our 10th Anniversary celebration. Bad experience and we complained. Given a free steak and sides based on our previous, so to claim this we went out for our 11th anniversary and yet again we were left disappointed. Arrived and the group in front of us reservation hadn’t been observed, despite group showing validation. We were then taken to our seats where we were given drinks and food menus before being ignored for nearly 7 minutes. When we were eventually seen to, they took our food orders and were about to leave, I asked to order drinks. Our drinks came and then 320 mins passed before our starters came, as soon as they were finished the mains came. Within an hour we were done and dusted! Horrible Horrible experience, and witnessed similar treatment to surrounding tables. An American waiter was not interested and we had that same attitude towards us last year from same guy.

Had an amazing experience last night, the service was amazing and very accommodating to my allergies. Stephen was our server and he was great! Definitely recommend was a lovely treat

We loved everything at this restaurant. The scallops and the ribs starters were incredible. The fillet steak with chips (peppercorn and bonemarrow gravy) and the steamed greens were absolutely mouthwatering. We were very impressed. I would 100% come back here. I liked the vibe too with the big grand space. We finished it with a tawny port wine. Absolutely delish! Attentive service too & the food arrived piping hot every time :) 10/10!

Went for a meal with my girlfriend. From start to finish the service was absolutely faultless. Unfortunately the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate due to a smoke alarm being set off in the hotel above. All the staff remained calm and...

Observant and attentive waitstaff....Great sommelier...and educated and professional kitchen...the bar tenders...I'm running out of superlatives. By far one of the best steakhouses in Great Britain. Go & drink great wines at any price range, enjoy the ambience, you will enjoy the food..a delight!

Wonderful experience. Communicated in advance and asked about dining there with two young children. While they don't have a kids menu, there was no problem sharing meals, which they totally lived up to in our experience there. My wife had the Sunday roast which she really enjoyed. My son and I enjoyed a really nice steak, while my youngest was very happy with his makeshift sandwich of bread and bacon. We loved the sticky toffee pudding! Finally, the service was extremely friendly and welcoming. We would be very happy to come again in the future.

We have been here twice and won't be back. Some of the food can be incredible, but the wait time for food is often ridiculous. A group of us visited for lunch over Christmas and preordered our food. Despite this it took hours to have the meal, with huge wait times in between courses and the main courses all delivered at different times (my main was delivered forty minutes after most of the groups and another 1 hour later). The restaurant wasn't busy (we didn't visit at peak time) so it wasn't due to that. Side orders never arrived, orders were mixed up. Staff were friendly and kind, but unfortunately didn't deliver and it just wasn't a good experience. There are a lot of fantastic restaurants in Edinburgh to visit instead of Hawksmoor where you will get a lot more bang for your buck.

Unfortunately my partner and I didn’t have a very good experience. I’m a big fan of steak restaurants and planned my partners 50th birthday on New Year’s Eve at Hawksmoor in Edinburgh which we flew up up too from London and take part in Hogmanay afterwards. We were seated at the bar waiting for our table which was 30 mins delayed, then the fire alarm went off and had to stand outside in the freezing cold for an hour. After 1 hour of no communication and the staff re entering the building, I went to the reception and was just asked for my tickets for my jackets which I gave them to be handed our jackets and told they are shutting. No apologies, or call or e-mail to apologise. I appreciate they may have been a fire but with no communication then looking for another restaurant at 8pm on New Year’s Eve to celebrate my partners 50th, just shows how much you care about your clientele. Not really what I expected from a well know restaurant.

I just had to leave a review as we had such a perfect experience! We have been to several of the Hawksmoors, such as London & Manchester and Edinburgh is definitely one of the best! The food was perfect, so tasty! Cocktails were delicious also....

Excellent food, we ordered the set afternoon menu. The restaurant itself was very nice although quite loud and with poor acoustics. The food was amazing, highly recommend however the sticking point for me and my partner came at the payment point. In small print at the bottom of the menu it mentions and "optional 12.5% tip" while this says "optional" it really isn't. When we went to pay the tip was already included despite the fact we were not very happy with the service we had received up until that point. We were faced with the option to face the server directly and ask them to manually remove their tip which would be quite uncomfortable to do so and I assume this is why they take this approach. I have no problem tipping for good service but the approach this restaurant takes is quite manipulative. Overall the food was great and the service was fine. However if you are planning on going here bear in mind you will essentially have to add on 12.5% on whatever you order to the menu prices they advertise which o feel is quite misleading.

Visited here last year for an occasion and had a great experience, this time around was topped by incredible service and hospitality from both Esther and Becca - individually skillful and caring hosts. We'll always have this site in our hearts and now have all the reason to come back here again in future.

Heard Hawksmoor is well good place from online, my family also love steaks, we booked this for my mums birthday. Had a nice welcoming and nice little seating booth, ordered the ribs for the starter and it was very bony and fatty for 2 bits of ribs and a little salad on the side definitely wasn’t worth the price, the guys pouring the drinks for us was very nice and pleasant also had this other server which was a girl, never smiled once or engaged with us was very quick to just get away, I think with a 12% service charge and the service was ok not brilliant. Next part we ordered was the steak, my dads steak was the ribeye which was extremely fatty for what was expected, I had the sirloin which I really enjoyed and my mum had the steak Diane which was also pretty fatty and not much steak meat at all, quite disappointing . Had dessert which was really nice, sticky toffee pudding and my dad had the maple tart. Was a ok experience but wouldn’t rush to be back, think miller and carter would have been a better shout and half the price.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant; attentive staff and beautiful restaurant but most importantly the food was excellent. Highly recommend anyone visiting Edinburgh makes a stop. Not the cheapest but worth every penny.

Some of the best steak in Edinburgh. Set in really nice surroundings of the old bank. Bit tucked away, but worth the visit. Minor point was it’s a little dark inside on a winters night!

I had the pleasure of visiting a restaurant for a company event. Place is beautiful, you can feel the history in it. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. After so many years, I finally discovered my favorite dessert, passion fruit pavlova. It was pure pleasure.

Food was excellent. The Yorkshire dippers starter was delicious and the steak was one of the best I've eaten. Service was excellent and a really nice venue. All round excellent experience.

This was my first time dining in any Hawksmoor restaurant. Being a big steak lover it was on my list. Whilst visiting Edinburgh I’d reserved a table for me and my partner to dine here. It didn’t disappoint. The lady we had serving us was very polite and informative with recommendations as it was our first time navigating the menu. The building itself is grand and beautifully lit. Despite not photographing well our steaks were cooked perfectly, the sides were delicious and our deserts were our stand outs. Would throughly recommend the maple tart and peanut butter shortbread deserts. And the macaroni cheese was our favourite side dish.
