Brilliant quality food and great service

Managed to finally make it down to Hatch for brunch, and I must say, the service was exceptional. The staff were attentive and offered excellent recommendations for dishes. The chicken and bacon was exceptional with crispy chicken, a fluffy waffle and the perfect runny egg. The truffle eggs benedict was also really tasty and the combination of flavours went so well together. The hash brown bites packed so many flavours and the perfect side. However, the gochujang chicken bites were disappointingly dry and the sauce wasn't that great. The salt and pepper fries were soggy, lacked flavour and wasn't that good. We enjoyed our meal and we'll definitely be back to try other dishes. The portion sizes were generous and the pricing was reasonable.

The best spot for brunch 🤩 Incredible, I stopped off in the city on route to a week away and were so glad we chose Hatch as our recharge point! Great portion sizes, brilliant taste and happy staff, what more could you want? Looking forward to returning the next time we head north 😁

No exaggeration… these are genuinely the BEST BURGERS IN THE WORLD. Place is always busy, even at the newer and bigger location. Book ahead. 🍔

I was wondering why the restaurant was full in a Monday morning as I met a friend for a brunch. After the meal , we both agreed it was the quality of the food, very welcoming staff and spacious dining area. I took away a chicken burger for my teenager son, he said it is absolutely delicious along with very generous portion. Highly recommend it. Need booking to avoid disappointment.

Great place for brunch, dog friendly, great for families with babies / kids, couples, families, groups of friend. Lovely atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff, delicious food, with great options for veggies and meat eaters equally. Make sure you book in advance as walk-ins are difficult.

Outstanding food, great choice and a gluten free menu to boot if asked. Simple wine and beer choices but brilliant ones at that. Well priced, fun and delicious.

Recommended by a friend, we visited last week for an early(ish) supper before a show at The Arena and expected mixed results having read reviews posted, however, I can only say that if 'six' stars were possible, that's what I'd have awarded. The menu draws you in with tempting offers, while the salt'n'pepper fries were just on another level, with an incredible flavour profile and something we'd not had before. Regarding the double cheese burger, this took me back many years when you could get a super-juicy, tasty burger and I have to say that this was the best I'd had for decades and nothing short of amazing!! We shared a desert, the honeycomb waffle and all I can say is to advise against ordering one to share, you need one each, as again, it was simply superb. Service from Holly, (on only her third shift, bless), was excellent, the overall ambience was warm and inviting and nothing was too much trouble, while my friend and I were also pleasantly surprised when the bill arrived and we both agreed that in today's world of inflated prices, what Hatch charged was reasonable to say the least. The measure of any restaurant is whether you'd return and in this instance, we simply can't wait, as it was faultless and the food was outstanding, so we'll definitely be back and very soon. Highly recommended!!!!

First time in the new location but a regular to the various Hatch venues over the years. Great to see the team going from strength to strength and this is the best yet. Terrific venue for breakfast/brunch, one of the few places who “get” the brunch concept properly (Ok I’m a brunch snob). Coffee very good. Service fantastic, they anticipate what you need and seem to appear from nowhere to ask you whether you want another coffee as you’re about to ask. Sophie was brilliant this morning. I had the cheeseburger with the hash brown bites which were amazing. The cocktails are also great and the service was attentive. Our server Sophie was lovely and she made sure we were enjoying ourselves! Will definitely come again.

Hatch never disappoints. I've enjoyed brunch here many times, but today I tried a burger, and it was also excellent! My daughter specifically requested Hatch for daddy/daughter day, and Sophie was a delightful server. We'll be back... again & again!

Hatch is without a doubt one of the best places for brunch in St. Albans. The food never disappoints and the service and atmosphere are always excellent (Special shoutout to our server on Friday Elena, who was friendly and accommodating!)

One of our favourite places to go for brunch or dinner. Chicken and waffles, amazing burgers and the salt and pepper five spice chips are like what you'd get in an Irish chip shop. So good and the staff are brilliant. Highly recommend to everyone

We had lunch here on Wednesday 14th. We didn’t book a table as it was a last minute choice but it was busy which we took to be a good sign. Unfortunately the lady who greeted us had a bit of an attitude and bordered on being rude, it was not a warm welcome by any account and kind of made you feel as if you were inconveniencing her by being there. We were told that we would need to come back in 20mins or so for a table and she took our phone number. We returned 20mins later and sadly the mood had not improved but she showed us to our table which to their credit was ready when they said it would be. We were then looked after by a lovely, cheerful, friendly waitress (whose name I forget but she had curly hair and piercings). Food was fine, nothing spectacular but filling and there was a good variety on the menu. Overall it’s a nice place and everyone we dealt with minus the initial lady was lovely so it was a shame she let the team down.

We ate brunch at Hatch on Friday 16 Fenruary 2024. The food was very tasty (sweetcorn fritters and avocado toast with halloumi), the atmosphere was chilled but still upbeat and the service was very good, too. We were served by Sahar, who was friendly and attentive. Keep up the good work - we will be back!

Had an amazing brunch today at Hatch. The food was fantastic, we had Buffalo Benedict (chicken schnitzel, avocado, eggs, rocket, hollandaise, buffalo sauce) which was delicious and poached eggs, avo and chimichurri sauce which was also excellent ☺️. Sophie and Rachel attended our table who were so lovely and friendly and chatty, would highly recommend.

A lovely all day brunch spot in the heart of St Albans with a great choice of food - I had the scrambled eggs with a side of mushrooms and they were delicious (and very indulgent). My juice was nice but felt overpriced for the size and quality - would highly recommend a visit!

Consistently great place for lunch/brunch and now dinner in St Albans. The service is always spot on (thank you to Sophie for today’s brilliant service that even impressed my mum!) So glad to see Hatch thriving in its new bigger home. Hospitality done right!

Absolutely the best breakfast in St Albans and they also do great burgers! Loving the new venue in St Christopher’s Place. All the staff are amazing, George is simply a legend and Sophie is a great new addition to the team.

Amazing breakfast spot located in the heart of St. Albans. Very friendly people combined with very hearty food. They never disappoint and that can be visibly seen but the number of people that always venture here. Absolutely love their chicken and waffles. It can get busy, if you can make a reservation that's ideal as the wait could be quite long if you're a walk-in, however even if one has to wait there are so many places within walking distance that can keep your attention while you wait. Can't wait to visit again!

Heard a lot of good things about Hatch in its previous incarnation in St Albans; it has now moved into St Christopher’s Place where Carluccios was previously and is constantly busy. We were unable to secure a walk in reservation so booking in advance is encouraged. The restaurant itself is buzzy and energetic with a canteen feel and a wide range of clientele from young and older families to couples. The service team are young and enthusiastic; quick to take your order, serve and clear away. The food centres on higher end American fare; brunch, waffles, burgers etc. Chicken schnitzel is a speciality and recommended as is the Dirty Reuben. Prices are as expected £9-12 for a burger and the portions are comfortably sized. An added bonus is their alcohol license; two cocktails for £12 from a small drinks a nice quirky addition. Fantastic food, coffee, and service! When my partner and I got here on a busy Saturday, the place was rammed, and it was a 45 mins wait for a table. Sceptical whether HATCH would be worth the wait or not, we decided we would wait and order a coffee whilst we waited. The member of staff on the front of house took our coffee order for us whilst we sat at the front of the shop. My partner is a massive coffee snob, and I struggle to find coffee places that he likes. The coffee came quick and was fantastic and blew both of us away. The member of staff on the front of house was so friendly and made sure to check in on us and keep us up to date on our table. When seen to our table, staff were extremely tentative and really looked after you, despite being busy. The food and drinks came fast and were delicious! I had the buffalo benedict, and my partner had the Katz burger with a side of chips. Both of us said how fantastic both these dishes were. Special shout out to Sarah, who is an absolute credit to HATCH. She really looked after us and gave us the best service we've probably ever received at a restaurant. My partner and I couldn't believe when she told us it was her first day! You couldn't tell. Well done to the Manager Chris, this is honestly perfection and couldn't fault our visit at all! We walked away saying we would come back again and happily wait any length of time to be seated here!! Altogether we spent £50.12 including 12.5% service charge. 3 coffees (my partner loved it so much he had 2!), 2 fresh juices, 1 buffalo benedict, and 1 Katz Burger with skin on fries. For the area and the quality of food, I believe this is great value for money! A must visit!

Been for the first time with family during the busy Xmas period - staff were so accommodating in getting a table together for us for a large group, service was excellent, food was excellent quality and the prices are so good! We will absolutely be back - especially as brunch food fanatic!

Totally recommend this after a fantastic breakfast. Good coffee and the poached eggs were wow. Great service, it was busy so we were booked in and given a time to come back which was spot on.

Delicious food!!! Lovely team working here and really nice food and drink offerings. Impressed with the service, food and standards. I only gave the atmosphere a slightly lower rating as it is open plan and a busy place so it can be very, very loud so difficult to eat in if you just want a quiet coffee but I guess that's the trade off with it being so lovely as it's just very popular!

We are house hunting in St Albans and can’t help but pop into Hatch every time we’re in town. Amazing food, friendly staff and a great selection. The chicken schnitzel is beyond! Plus it’s very dog friendly!

We walked in on Saturday morning at about 10.45 and managed to get a table for two. Great atmosphere and service and the breakfast was delicious - especially the mushrooms.

I am a local and when hatch opened few years back in the Maltings I was very happy to support a local business and watch it grow, once they moved to to the small space & started to get busy it was hard to get a table due to space restrictions but I would understand, today i knew they moved to a bigger space I woke up specially to come and enjoy a breakfast to be disappointed to be turned away due to unavailability I was just one person not a group! I wasn’t even offered a take away option !! beyond disappointed with the customer care !

Had brunch here recently, even though they do not have any halal options available they do have vegetarian and vegan options. The food was AMAZING!! I’m not a huge egg lover but those scrambled eggs were the best I’ve eaten and the hash brown bites OMG!! Heaven. I wish they did halal options at least in chicken as their fried chicken looks bomb!!

I've been waiting 2 years to visit Hatch as the Holywell Hill location was always fully booked. The new location at St Christopher's Place is much larger and we were able to go on a Monday lunch. After 2 years of hearing recommendations my expectations were unfairly high. Hatch met my expectations with room to spare. We ordered the buffalo benedict, truffle benedict and a burger to share. The food has a wonderful layering of flavours that do not clash. The portion sizes are pretty spot on and they have options for pretty much any hankering. Service was pleasant and prompt. Would definitely recommend and hope to visit again.

Great brunch and great service from a lovely Rachael today. We all ordered different meals and each one was cooked perfectly using delicious fresh produce. It was very busy however service was excellent. Friendly and efficient with great food!

Just had lunch at my favourite place to eat at St Albans, Hatch, in their new place near Wagamama…the food is just as perfect (this time amazing scrambled eggs with sourdough toast and the most delicious butter I’ve ever tasted) and the best flat white I’ve had since…well the little Hatch days a week ago It might be new but the menu and more importantly the friendly staff make your brunch or lunch or supper special Big thanks to George - he always give the biggest welcomes, and to Becca who wears the coolest glasses and remembers my favourite meals better than I do, and to Ali who served up the coffees with the nicest smile Hatch IS the friendliest place in St Albans and their food is pretty amazing too !! Try it for yourself, but book! This place is very popular!

Absolutely delicious food! We were staying in the hilton not far from here and thought we'd give the place a try and it was so good we would travel back just to eat here again. Service was a little slower than we'd hoped but still all lovely

This is a cute place that does coffees, drinks and brunch type foods. It was pretty cramped and we felt pretty rushed - this was understandable as we didn't book as we were just getting coffees. Not many vegan options on the food menu and oat milk is the only dairy milk alternative. Would be good to do more vegan options such as vegan waffles and have almond and soy milk options too. (Oat milk also cost +30p more...) We got the oat milk chai which was really good and I got the oat milk flat white.

It’s unusual to find somewhere that’s consistently brilliant, but Hatch is exactly that. Whether it’s a takeaway, date night or an outing with friends, the team at Hatch are always welcoming and efficient - despite usually being at capacity. The food is always amazing and the atmosphere spot on. We feel lucky to have this gem on our doorstep and can’t recommend it enough.

Only had a (deliciously fruity Americano) and a pastry, but a lovely place to stop for a while. Since had lunch there (avocado, poached eggs and halloumi on toast). And the wonderful coffee. Yum.

On a mangé un breakfast anglais très typique. C’est un bon plan à St-Albans pour consommer local. Les employés sont très sympathiques. Un bémol avec le café par contre, j’ai fait l’erreur de commander un expresso et il était pas dans mes standards gustatifs 😅 : très acide ! En Angleterre il faut se contenter d’un café allongé ou avec du lait. Sinon je conseille vivement. Merci !

Lovely little place! Great service, atmosphere and food. I had the brunch bun replacing the sausage for vegan and it is genuinely the best bun I've ever had! Also the hash brown bites were awesome. Thanks all at Hatch!
