Looking through my photos, it was actually the image of St. George’s Deli & Kitchen “Irish stew” that got my feelings of wanderlust going again. Of course, it’s not that the stew was particularly mind-blowing; rather, it was more of what it represented: The ability to travel beyond borders, through airports, on planes, to explore other places and cultures without the worry of contracting COVID. Indeed, that was only six months ago, but it feels like so much longer. But enough philosophical reflection. This café-style eatery, located in Belfast City Airport, carries a little bit of history – and I’m not talking about the vague references to the world-famous St. George’s Market; instead, I’m referring to its life as an eatery. Beginning life as the Harvest Market, the establishment was re-branded sometime in 2017 as “St. George’s Deli & Kitchen,” obviously drawing inspiration from the aforementioned St. George’s Market. Interestingly, this re-branding did catch the ire of many folks who traded and worked at the actual St. George’s Market, if only because, according to the Belfast Telegraph, the Market’s fresh produce “will not necessarily feature on the menu.” I do feel this is a valid criticism because if you’re promoting or drawing inspiration from a world-famous Market then, naturally, some of what you sell should come from there – not just propaganda photos. But then, maybe things have changed since this place opened and some ingredients/goods do come from the Market? In any event, St. George’s Deli & Kitchen is modern and spacious, especially for an airport restaurant. It contains a variety of seating options – everything from your typical café-style seating, small booth seating , and plush leather chairs similar to what you might see in, say, a bachelors pad. The lighting fixtures are also attractive and help to give the space a smart, clean look. I especially enjoyed the large floor-to-ceiling windows, which allowed me to watch Flybe (RIP) and Aer Lingus bumble about like busy worker bees. When it came to food, as noted, I decided to order the traditional Irish stew. I wanted to avoid the typical burgers and fries type deal + get a small taste of Ireland. Now, when I ordered, I was fully aware that the stew probably wasn’t going to be the best representation of the dish, but at least it would be a start. It certainly looked the part and, when it came to flavours, I was pleasantly surprised. The stew was flavourful; the carrots, potatoes and lamb were tender, and the broth made for excellent dipping with the bread. In many ways, the dish reminded me of a beef stew my grandparents used to make. In short, the Irish stew far exceeded my (low) expectations. FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 4/5 VALUE: 4/5 RECOMMENDATION: Because of my experience, I was fairly surprised when I logged on to TripAdvisor and saw that 44/65 reviews for this restaurant were rated as either “poor” or “terrible,” representing just over 67% of the total. Maybe other items on the menu are sub-par, or maybe I just got lucky? Regardless, I found St. George’s Deli & Kitchen to be a decent place to eat . . . not that there’s much choice in BHD ;) PS: If you found this review helpful in any way please consider hitting the "helpful" button!

There aren't many places available for a lunch or meal at Belfast City airport, so we managed to grab a couple of baked goods from the Harvest Market while we waited for our flight. Overall, the baked good items were large, and tasted fine...they all worked for us as we waiting for our flight.

I must say that this about average for airport food. The fish and chips I had was so so. The batter was extremely heavy and the fish itself was warm, not hot. In spite of that though the staff was quite nice.

This place needs a good make over, not the decor but the staff. Cooks can't cook and there is too many staff behind the counters. Fried eggs that have been made dear knows how long ago are like plastic and the rest of the food is sub standard. The prices that are charged is outrageous for this very poor quality food. Bring your own sandwiches etc rather than eat at this place.

Delayed flight so popped in looking for something to eat. When we asked about two or three options on the menu customers were told they were out of them. No explanation, no apology. Staff more interested in conversations between themselves. Ordered two pizzas at £11 each. Ludicrously overpriced. Went for tap water because bottled water was £2. Might as well just go the full hog and mug you. The pizzas were fine, nothing special. But when the waitress brought mine over it fell off the plate and onto the table. She laughed and said ‘can you pull it back onto the plate?’ Seems to be a poorly managed place. Shame that for many tourists this is their last impression of NI.

As we had an early flight to Heathrow we decided to have breakfast at the airport. The breakfast soda looked to be right for us as it had 2 pieces of soda bread, 2 sausages, plenty of bacon and a fried egg for £5.95. Great food and excellent value for money, especially compared to prices in Heathrow. The coffee was good and the orange juice was well chilled. So glad we ate here, rather than waiting until we got to Heathrow.

This can only be described as a typical airport restaurant. We had pre-made panini’s which we had heated and they were both okay. The coffee was also okay. Price wise it was also about what you would expect from an airport eatery. The serving areas were all kept clean and tidy but the staff could be a bit more proactive in clearing tables.

Well I wasn't surprised to see the awful reviews after we had eaten here. I ordered fish pie. It was served in a round deep dish about 14cm diameter. I was stunned to find that the top layer of about 6cm depth was just mashed potato. The bottom 1cm (max) was the "fish" and even that meagre offering only consisted of a few small pieces of fish. If I had wanted a serving of mashed potato I would have ordered that. Prices seem high even for airport prices. Any good points. Well the seating area is reasonably spacious. There is free airport wifi though very slow. There are charging points in this restaurant so you can sit at a bench with your laptop charging. Though the number of these is a bit limited.

Time to kill as usual at any airport, the more so in this instance due to flight delay. Not much to choose from but it seems I chose the wrong one from a choice of two. The food when served was indescribable. Cold chips, veg which died some hours before and a strange object posing as a Burger. Posing was about all it was good for. The so called meal was an absolute disgrace. Next time a packet of crisps and a Bounty Bar for pudding will be a better choice. If you value your standards this is not the place to eat.

The smell of pizza as we walked upstairs lured us into this eatery. It did not disappoint! Stone baked and a variety of toppings available - I had pesto chicken with peppers, sun dried tomatoes and mozzarella. A little on the expensive side - but worth it. Just wasn't that impressed with the place. On going through security to the 'airside' of the airport this place is pretty much the main choice. There is an O'Brien's but it's mainly just sandwiches, there's a bar that does hot food but it was quite small and was too full. There is a Lavazza coffee shop, but apart from good coffee the food options are more limited. So the Harvest Market would appear to be the one that tries to offer a bit of everything. It is certainly the biggest and offers both the majority of seating in departures and one of the better views of the airfield, let's face it, that's the best place to be in an airport, watching the planes.Unfortunately despite being there in the middle of the day the food range looked largely like the place was about to close, not much choice and as if a lot of the choices had been sitting out for some time. Also despite some posters with specials advertised there was little trace of the real thing. Some of the staff were not that attentive either, despite queuing for some time myself and other customers stood just feet away from 3 staff members tinkering with an oven in no particular rush, who upon completion split in different directions and ignored us. If it hadn't been for the girl on the till I don't know how long it would have taken. Once ordered the food had to be brought to the table and everything arrived in drips and drabs, so most of us were finished one part of lunch before the rest arrived. This place has the best seats and the best views out over the runway going for it, but sadly not much else, there is a lot of potential going to waste here sadly.

i have been working in Belfast a lot this year and always take the 20.30 flight, so getting to the airport at around 19.00. you would imagine this would be a busy time for one of the only food places at the airportif you though that you’d be wrong, its not busy for several reasons.1.they never have any food!! they have a huge menu but by 19.00 they have nothing left the hot counter is always empty apart from the odd pan of baked beans that look like they have been there for months. the menu looks inviting and tasy but they just dont have any by early evening2. the staff. the place stops serving at around 20.30 but the staff start to pack away at 8ish and seem most unhelpful. last week as i was eating a sausage and chips , yes on sausage as that's all they had left , one of the staff took a waste food bin and placed it on the table next to my food. 3. I know they have to keep the place clean but they are always moving stuff and tidying you up , rather than waiting for you to finish4. they take ages to serve you and have no common sense. i asked for a plate of chips and coffee, the guy stuck the chips in and when i suggested he do the coffee while waiting he blanked me, then after the chips were cooked he made the coffee, enhance cold chipsoverall slow crap service , lack of food choices , and an overall bad attitude to the customer !!

A colleague and I went to the café for our lunch break today. The server area was poorly optimised, as the menu for food was located behind the drinks ordering area rather than where you order your food. This caused confusion. My colleague ordered a chicken roll and I ordered the pasta salad. After waiting a ridiculous 30 minutes the chicken roll arrived, but I was informed that the kitchen didn't have the ingredients for my salad. I was astounded that it took them 30 minutes to inform me of this and to heat up a simple roll, especially given that the café had only a small number of people. As a consequence of this we were running late for work, and I was forced to leave without my order. The only positive in the experience was the waitress, who was friendly and apologetic regarding the whole fiasco (none of which was her fault, the blame laying with the incompetent kitchen). I was offered a pre-made sandwich and a baked snack which I accepted in lieu of a refund. A terrible experience and to top it all off, my colleague described the chicken roll as tasting "like airport food". Don't go here, there are much better eateries nearby.
