We visited for Saturday lunch, with a lunch voucher we had been given for Christmas. We were not disappointed!!!! From the second we walked in, we were treated like absolute royalty. All the staff were kind and attentive. We were mainly looked after by Charlie, who couldn't do enough for us. The food was impeccable. We started with scallops and the double chicken agnolotti and shared the beef rib for main. As foodies this is a meal we will never forget!Already planning our next visit! Thank you to Charlie and the team for making it special!

We redeemed a luncheon voucher given to us as a gift by our son. Booking and confirmation of the lunch was straightforward with very friendly and helpful staff. The approach to the hotel was impressive, parking was easy, and the greeting on arrival was sincere and friendly. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff, who were very attentive throughout our stay. We were spoiled for choice on the menu. All our chosen dishes were excellent. The setting was lovely, and there was plenty of space between tables to feel relaxed. Overall, it was a very memorable experience.

What an amazing and delicious experience. The menu is extensive and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. You can mix and match the courses suiting what you would like to eat. We had starters of cured bass and porcini risotto followed by lemon sole and veal with coco di paimpol beans. We did use google to find out some ingredients but the waitress was extremely helpful when we asked what “local yellow legs” was (mushrooms apparently!!) my only complaint would be that The lemon sole was served just in its own with seaweed butter - delicious but I think it should have had an accompaniment and I should have been advised of that when ordering. Desserts were polenta and pistachio cake served with masala plum and ice cream. Expensive but worth every penny for the experience, the choices, and the taste

Line Wood “used” to be special but is now much more “mainstream”. Impressive building but decor / service / food is on a par with the Ivy. Serious parking problems when you have to walk circa 500 yards from a “field”! Pleased it was not cold or raining and my wife was wearing flat shoes! We’d looked at menus in advance and I was attracted to the small plate menu (had to ask for it as it was not offered)? Service was nothing special, lacked “warmth” with a 12.5% service charge too! We are unlikely to return until the parking issues are resolved (and no, we were not offered valet parking!).

The car park is not too far away but could be a problem if cold or rainy; drop off at the door is offered. A newly rebuilt hotel on site of a 18th century country residence now also has a restaurant. The place has an ambience of old world sophistication; sumptuously decorated and furnished it has plenty of different spaces and facilities for all types of escapes. The lunch was delicious but horrendously and eye-wateringly expensive. The wine list is extensive but nice to see a good representation of English sparkling wines - equally overpriced. Service and the staff were outstanding. Nice to have been but not again.

We dined here both nights whilst staying at Limewood . Food was fantastic and the service friendly and efficient. A nice wine list with a good selection across a range of prices and some really nice Italian wines which you wouldn't normally find in the UK (we've spent a lot of time in Umbria so was nice to see that region represented!!)

We had a lovely dinner in food and wine terms, but the service for this grade of restaurant and in contrast to the rest of the hotel was really poor. The staff were clearly untrained and the restaurant manage was totally ineffectual, being both incapable of engaging customers as well as his staff. He could be seen floating around avoiding interaction with his staff who were all at sea. The waiter was trying his best telling us this was his second year and he liked meeting customers, but clearly had been poorly trained. He split the wine at each pouring. He had no idea he should be preemptive at pouring wine or water. The wine waiter was clearly not a sommelier and had poor training, having no real understanding of wine when asked. He proceeded to put the wine bucket 30 ft away hidden behind a bush . So staff had to go searching for it each time we had to ask for a top upBreakfast showed a lovely buffet but asking for anything brought delays…. 20 minutes and asking twice to get gluten free toast which was clearly from a packet so no baking time needed. Our breakfast cooked plates were grabbed from us while I was eating my toast from one. The waitress arrived and said “what do you want “…. Another arrived saying “ who wants the coffee”… again social interaction was lacking training for a hotel in this price range . The outside covered terrace was lovely, but the sandstone floor was covered in black marks from food stains and had clearly not been cleaned since the canopy was put up

You just can't beat lunch outdoors at Limewood on a sunny day, especially at the moment when you need to book well in advance to get a table ... it's a real treat!Loved the fresh herbs and delicate salad dressing ... takes a green side salad to another level. The lemon tart was zesty and full of flavour, luckily we shared dessert as it was plenty for 2. Booked lunch again in September... just hope scallops are still on the menu ... they're the best we've ever eaten!

We have visited Limewood restaurant for the last 5 years to celebrate my birthday with friends. We have decided not to bother again as it has deteriorated. Last year we were concerned with hygiene as there were remnants of breakfast on our lunch table and the service was poor. This year we were very disappointed that the fixed price lunch menu is no longer offered yet it was still on the website when we booked. The service was disappointing as we waited ages then were served some antipasti and our starters in quick succession. A couple of friends had the lamb which was tough and fatty and they had to send it back. Hard to believe when they charge £32 for it. The crab tart starter was delicious but overall we found the food disappointing especially as the prices have increased so much! Not worth the money anymore. In the past we have had petit four with coffee but alas no more. A real shame that standards have fallen as we like the place so much. Definitely living on past glory.

Had a relatively expensive course at dinner today. For £37.00 (including £5.00 for potatoes) I had a small Rump of lamb. It was undercooked , tough and 50% gristle. Totally unable to cut it without the aid of a hacksaw - let alone eat it. Very embarrassed , as others weren't wishing to complain in such a lovely setting but who also found it inedible , I asked for it to be replaced. It duly or the reappeared , however without the potatoes , accompanying vegetables or the "specialty base" and still unable to chew through the gristle again. Regrettably to avoid further embarrassment I gave up. Possibly the most disappointing meal I have had this year when I was expecting much more at this venue.

Setting and ambiance excellent. Food v good and my 84 year old mother had a fabulous birthday lunch. Staff lovely but forgetful and there were hiccups you wouldn’t expect at this level. We should have, but didn’t, query the 12.5% service charge that was automatically added to the final bill. It should be discretionary and the customer shouldn’t feel uncomfortable in asking for it to be removed. Here’s why. They asked me three times about my reservation - I’m still not sure if they had it even though I had confirmation. We were offered arancini whilst waiting for our table and looking at an a la carte menu. They didn’t appear until we were seated in dining room and waiting staff had to remind kitchen. Then we given a lunch menu to add to the a la carte before being seated and given two more - a vegan and a set lunch menu. That’s four different menus - they just kept coming (v confusing). We explained one guest didn’t eat red meat and they brought humous instead of mortadella which was a nice touch but all the bread and radishes were on same platter and touching the meat. Dover sole boned at table - quite a few bones remained. New potatoes hadn’t been selected well. Had to ask three times for wine list. Waiting staff were asked if the Tiramasu was vegetarian friendly and they didn’t know. Finally, and this was rather unpleasant, we were intermittently showered with fly and spider carcasses which were falling from conservatory/atrium roof when wind blew in on an open window above us. Don’t look up - feather duster urgently needed. So all in all not a 12.5% gratuity experience.

We had a thoroughly wonderful evening and appreciate the staff providing little ‘happy anniversary” muffins at the end on the house. A special meal for a special occasion. Highly recommend.

Well I had been looking forward to visiting Limewood for some considerable time, however the experience did not live up to expectations of 5 star service. This is a hotel that in the early days said it would give the Chewton Glen a run for its money - well that wasn't my experience on this occasion. We had a table booked for 2pm and arrived for 1pm to give us time for a relaxed pre-lunch drink. We were shown to a table and rather unceremoniously left with no explanation of what to expect. I walked in with my walking stick and tried to move the chair (heavy & awkward) - no one came to assist me. We sat & waited for some service - nothing!! After 20 minutes, I asked a waitress if we were going to be served some drinks - she went off to find someone (there was no shortage of waiting staff) so we were then able to order drinks and given the menus (having had to ask for both the menus!!). By this time, we were certainly not impressed by the poor service. It then came to moving to our table for our lunch. We both chose the smoked salmon starter and the grilled chicken with salad and a side of chips (we were advised 1 portion would be plenty for 2 (which it was). Whilst the chicken was tasty, the salad consisted of just a few salad leaves with some dressing. This was not value for money. We asked for mayonnaise, which came in small glass jars (as for jam at breakfast in hotels) showing that is was Heinz variety. I really would not expect a restaurant supposedly in a 5 star hotel to be serving mayonnaise in this way - I would expect it to be served in a dish with a spoon. All about portion control I am sure (& keeping profits as high as possible). The other thing that irritated us was our waitress referring to us as 'guys'- to address 2 ladies of a mature vintage, I think this is wholly inappropriate. Very disappointed indeed - some customer service training would not go amiss here!!

Just a few restaurants seem to know how to make you feel you’re having a really special time, and this is one of them. I’ve eaten many excellent meals over the years, some of which have stood out in the memory, and I think this will be one of them. The main thing was the ability to surprise. How do they make humous taste so special? You think you know what ratatouille will be like, but it comes and it is just surprisingly wonderful. I thought I could cook a pretty special lamb chop, but now I think I was wrong! You decline dessert but then fancy petit fours with your coffee and even though they don't do petit fours they find you some mini cherry bakewell tarts. It’s the kind of place you just want to be in. This meal has brightened up our holiday. Happily, we’re back again next week.

We sat outside under the canopy and enjoyed the views over the garden. For our starters we had the IOW tomato risotto and the spaghetti with lobster and chilli, both delicious. For the main we opted to share the lamb chops with ratatouille, these were lovely, cooked beautifully and flavoursome. All washed down with a lovely glass of rose. For desert, I opted for the lemon tart which was a very generous slice and my husband had the gelato.Russell our waiter was great and really attentive the whole time. The hotel is excellent in all respects except with regard to the restaurant and related services. There were too many serious errors. Leaving aside the “difficult” limited Italian style it was worse than disappointing that we were not informed of the apparently, readily available steak, vegetarian and vegan options. But, there seems to be a problem with staff insufficiently attuned to customer service. Being ignored Is poor enough. But being told something would be done and then , repeatedly it is not, is very poor. Yes, there were honourable exceptions among a couple of wait staff but the constant absence of managerial attention surely has something to do with the problems.

Many thanks James. The Alfresco menu, with limited choices brought about by the pandemic, was good but not, in our view, excellent. Table booked for 19:45, had a drink in the bar beforehand. Ordered a bottle of Hambledon (delicious) - lovely lady called Jane took us to our table right next to a revolving door in and out of the kitchen - constantly banging (why wouldn't you quieten this door and put a screen up to hide it from the diners) and because there were so many staff coming in and out of the door, it felt like I had a swarm of flies buzzing around us. Asked to move tables, no issues. Nice starter of Salmon, Sirloin Steak for main - pretty average if i'm honest - fat left on but because it's covered in sauce and the lighting is low in the restaurant you end up eating fat. Nice dessert (Tiramasu). We ordered a nice bottle of Red for our mains - would have been better if it had been decanted - Sommelier kept putting the lid back on it (isn't red wine meant to breathe?). Restaurant is in a stunning location - chose HH & Co as really like Angela Hartnett but i'm sad to say I didn't get the wow factor.

We enjoyed a pre-lunch drink in the atrium bar area, which was very relaxing and made us feel comfortable, before moving into the restaurant. We were shown to a corner table, which was fine, we were offered the choice from a set lunch menu, a la carte, or a selection from both menus. The table service was polite, courteous and professional, our orders were taken and descriptions of the dishes provided by the staff. The food was served in a relaxed manner, no rush fuss or bother. We were expecting small nous vous style portions, but were pleasantly surprised that the portions were more home cooking style, presentation was excellent and tantalising, and the food delicious! As we are elderly and have been shielding for so long we considered that hotels would have sufficient managerial control over the hygiene conditions that the current situation calls for so hence we decided to eat out here. The hotel and food was very good and the staff were very attentive. We were a little concerned that the staff were not wearing masks but even more concerned that the tables both inside and outside were not cleaned after guests had vacated them. Even the one cafe that we have frequented have been cleaning between guests' use. As the tables do not have table cloths on this was a little worrying, we did mention it and the tables were cleared and cleaning actioned but it ceased afterwards. We do think this is an important part of the procedure as cutlery is placed straight onto the wooden tables. This can easily be rectified. We did like the small sanitizers placed on each table, a nice touch and not floral which would interfere with the food aromas. Please rectify this small but vital procedure with the tables and we will return.

Unlikely to go again. We went for our anniversary dinner and did not stay at the hotel. Arrived at 19:45 for a pre-dinner drink for a table booked at 20:00. Asked to sit outside which was fine and the terrace is lovely; it overlooks a beautiful lawn and is attached to the attractive main house. Asked for a wine list so we could have a glass and were told that the wine lists were all out on the dining tables. Odd as when we got to our table there was no wine list. So we asked for a glass of white chardonnay which was good but no idea of the price (although having checked on their website I think £17 for a medium glass) . No menus were offered the entire time we sat and finally at 20:30 I had to ask to be shown to the table. The meal was okay but my lamb (beautifully cooked) was coated in a quite strong marinade and when I cut off the outside to see how it tasted on its own I was disappointed. My partner's fish was pretty bland although fair to say that fish is always a bit of a lottery. Perhaps my fault for choosing lamb in August but still. The wine is extremely expensive and you are unlikely to get much for less than £50. We had a Gavi at I think £47 and I was expecting something sensational for the money. Gavi can be meh but if you get the right one it is fabulous. This was okay but certainly not what I was expecting and probably £9 in a supermarket. We sat for ten minutes with empty glasses and I am not sure that we even finished the bottle such was the level of service. While the staff when they were there were fine, overall either they had too many people to serve or they were not totally in control. End result £200 for two including one bottle of wine and the stater two glasses. For that I would expect an exceptional meal with great wine and exceptional service. I think I am being fair when I say we got none of those things.

Having booked a birthday lunch on route from Sussex to the West Country we arrived 20 minutes before our reservation to be shown to the terrace for a pre lunch drink. After sitting there for half an hour without even being offered a glass of water we had to ask for a drinks menu. After a further ten minutes we had to ask for our drinks order to be taken. Five members of staff by this time were aware we had a lunch reservation. After a further twenty minutes or so we took ourselves to the bar to ask to be taken to the restaurant. After being seated we were told the kitchen had shut down from the lunch service and there was no a la carte menu available. We were given a warm glass of Prosecco and offered the bar menu. After eating a few mouthfuls of one of the worst burgers I’ve ever eaten we left to go.The waiting staff in the restaurant were horrified that we had been so totally overlooked. They were clearly embarrassed and apologised sincerely. The restaurant manager however avoided us completely until I asked to speak with him. He said he had no idea how we had been overlooked. He made no offer to look into it and made no offer to contact me with an explanation when he had found out how this had happened. He just kept offering us drinks which was pointless as we still had a long drive ahead of us and we had not made a reservation to drink but to have lunch.I was offered a slice of cake in a box as we left for the birthday we had booked to celebrate. I declined considering the extreme heat and our long journey. A slice of cake was Totally inappropriate.Walking back to the car I was approached by another manager who had overheard my conversation with a staff member. He was genuinely horrified at the service we had received. He did ask us to return another time but seeing as we do not live anywhere near Lime Wood this wasn’t realistic. He also offered to see if he could arrange something at our destination but we are self catering in a beautiful castle with family.Such a disappointing experience, so badly handled by the restaurant manager. Beautiful house, beautiful setting, appalling service. Way, way too casual and indifferent.People make reservations for so many different reasons. Each booking should be honoured and respected not ignored and dismissed as irrelevant by the restaurant manager.

We were 4 adults and two toddlers for lunch. We were able to move tables from drinks terrace to indoor restaurant to outdoors for desserts freely. The atmosphere was relaxed, and large lawns gave space to run around. Food was delicious off both the daily menu (2 or 3 courses) and the a la carte. We mixed dishes freely. Stars were tomato tart, mackerel, confit cod, pasta chicken, pork rump. Good selection of wines including by the glass. The bar drinks menu should include all wines by the glass, which were available request, but not advertised alongside fizz and cocktails.

Great food, great wine, great setting and knowledgeable staff. We are in the restaurant twice during our stay. First time on a table, the second time sat up at the bar in the main dining room. If you are there on your own or as a couple, it is the place I would recommend. We had a great time with the staff and especially the sommelier, from whom we learnt loads about Italian wine.

There was no major complaint about this restaurant or the Limewood Hotel, but I just didn’t enjoy this experience. Firstly everything is ridiculously over priced. I’ve been to many expensive restaurants (mainly in London) but main courses in the restaurant were mostly £35++, the other courses equally as expensive. I wouldn’t have minded that if I felt that the food was absolutely exceptional. It was really lovely but nothing that made it taste better than other similar level restaurants. Apart from that, I just felt very uncomfortable in there, it wasn’t relaxed. The style of waiting just isn’t for me, they’ve all been trained in a certain way and for somewhere in the heart of the New Forest I think it needs to be more relaxed. Other people were clearly enjoying themselves and I think it’s about my personal taste.... but over £30 for two (very) small espresso martinis....

The restaurant, adjacent to the bar where a different menu is served, has fine white table-cloths and quite a reputation for local food. The lunch menu was attractive, but there is a major emphasis on preserved and pickled vegetables which we found a bit overwhelming in two successive courses. Flavour combinations were imaginative, but not quite successful in all cases (e.g. Oranges with burata) .The restaurant obviously has aspirations judging by the prices. Our carafe of rather boring rosé was expensive, pushing our set lunch for two to just on £100. But all the food items were fresh and some of the elements were excellent - the gurnard for example was perfectly cooked and very fresh. Perhaps if we'd had the a-la-carte we would have had a better experience as we were a bit disappointed with the flavours and juxtapositions.

Very nice welcome whilst entering the property and shown to some seating by the fire which is a nice touch. We had some champagne and the young lady brought the menus over so we could peruse those at our leisure. Had some questions about the food but they young lady had only just started so thats fine, would ask in the dining room and google is always handy. We ordered and when they were ready went through to the dining room. Could only see one face we recognised from our previous trips and he was pleasant and seated us. We had ordered from the set lunch menu. My husband said the soup was superb, I tried it and it was, very fresh tasting with some pieces of salmon which had been smoked, delicous. I had a coppa carpaccio with salad which also was good, nice and light. For our mains, one of us had the fish with lentils, the other chicken saltimbocca. That was huge, it covered the whole plate pretty much. The ham on top looked like it had fallen off and the pieces were put back on to cover it as much as possible, it wasnt crispy or even hinted at being so, didnt look that appetising but it tasted ok. I love rustic food, just didnt expect to have the whole plate taken up by it as that is not what it has been like every other time we have dined here, never portion sizes like that. Not one for ever leaving anything, I finished that along with extra veg I had ordered. I was pretty full. The fish & lentils were fine, thing is you expect more due to where you are. Then desserts. So we decided to have one of each, treacle tart and pannecotta, not that we felt like eating them as were so full but we did. The dessert I had in here last time was excellent, but these were super cold. They had just been taken out of a very cold fridge, could not taste the flavours as far too cold. Did not fancy hanging around waiting for them to warm up... such a shame. So the meal was 2 halves really, good and not so good. Thing is, it was not busy so dont understand why this happens when they obvioulsy had time. Customer service was good, food not up to par on this occasion.

A morning meeting in a log-fire warmed room left us feeling like we’d been sitting round a camp-fire, but then went through for a Christmas lunch. The standout for me was my chosen starter of a salmon tart; main of slow cooked beef was meltingly soft but quite dry and would have been good to have some extra jus alongside the veg and cut-glass crisp roast potatoes. Cheese board dessert was great too and mince pie to finish had crumbly thin heavenly pastry. The festive decorations were gorgeously tasteful and decadent - would love to go back there for an overnight stay!

I cannot even begin to describe the food. I had the mozzarella and tomato salad whereas my partner had the onion tart. The flavours were not overpowering but delicate. We both opted for the fish stew for our mains which was simply outstanding. Dessert was perfect for a Summer lunch;apricots with burnt custard and cherries with an almost sorbet like ice cream. However the sommelier who was serving an adjacent table spoke loudly and endlessly, he must've been talking to them for at least 20 minutes. It felt intrusive. Once we had finished eating, we left our table to escape him. We would've preferred to stay a little longer and enjoy the evening sun in the garden.

Wonderful weather so sat on the terrace with a pre-lunch drink and just took in the beautiful surroundings, hard to believe you are just a mile or so away from the busy New Forest town of Lyndhurst, all you could hear was bird song. We were shown to our table in the restaurant where a helpful waiter explained items on the menu. On arrival shown to the bar area and then forgotten, eventually got our drinks and then we had to ask for the menu. Read the menu and tried to order but the system seems to be orchestrated to get you out of the bar and into the restaurant where we ordered. The starter came very quickly which surprised us as it did not seem to have been long enough to be cooked there and then, food was warm. I asked for some butter as I did not want the oil, never given a choice, the butter was brought in, in a kitchen type dish, no butter knife. Soon as we finished the starter the dishes were whisked away and the main course arrived. I ordered a rack of lamb, served two small chops cut from the rack, there was no sauce or gravy and we were not offered any. The vegetables were definitely not cooked fresh and they were dead on the plate, potatoes were an extra. All this was served up on a cold plate. I kid you not.
