Harpenden Grill Kebab and Pizza in St Albans

Always get a fairly good kebab from here , fresh and consistent and fast for when you just want a quick bite . We always use Deliveroo which to be fair does push the cost up a little to high . Overall no problems !

Way to expensive for average at best food

I visited kebab shop for a kebab I’ve been coming here for like 15 to 16 years never been spoken to in such a rude and arrogant manner absolutely ridiculous dry Waithe, thin chicken,donna don’t like to complain, but it was absolutely an edible. Try left there all day. Asked for fresh one, as it was just cooked on the skewer and was told no I will not be returning. Such a shame for to be spoken to and so disrespectful and a very very loyal customer for many many years. Disgusting !?

Superb service, the staff were so attentive, even noticing when I was too hot and offering to move our table. The food was delicious and the decor stunning. A must visit, but book ahead as it's a tiny venue.

The customer will love this!". This is more extreme than usual but the meat is generally way too dry. The salad was good, but then salad is cheap, right? Their burgers are good, I find, but for a kebab there is a much better place a little way down the hill that I will now go to. I recommend you do the same.

Good food but not great service

The halloumi wrap was cold overpriced and quite frankly a waste of 7£,the staff are rude and are constantly giving dirty looks to customers this is debatably the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant #pinarzontop

I must agree customer service is non existent. Asked for a chicken doner no onions, got onions. This was the most disgusting kebab I've ever had and that's not many! Every other tasteless mouthful was chicken fat. I literally had to spit it out eventually and bin the rest. My son did the same. Asked for another doner kebab full salad and got cabbage and onions. First and last visit, don't waste your time and money!

Oh my gosh ! What a difference a shish kebab can make in 2 months ! Had a chicken one last night and it was so soggy. The pitta was so thin. Full of crispy (nice) lettuce .some onion. But no tomatoes. Over £1.00 more for the small size. ( enough for me tho). Wont be buying again. Trying to save £ guys ? Lost my custom !

The customer is clearly the enemy. They are just rude. The food is ok but the service is shocking. It is like they assume everyone is drunk or they genuinely hate people. Maybe shut and shop and go and work for Hermes. They genuinely hate people.

Lamb meat was poor, for price very below par

The chicken burger was dry with a funny taste and soggy salad, took 3 bites and couldnt eat it. The 'cheesy chips' were cold and the cheese was just lumped on the top. Had to warm up in microwave and add more cheese. Aside from the fact it was quick delivery maybe they should work on the quality of the food first before sending it out..been coming here for years amd very dissapointed

This kebab shop is the worst I've ever visited the food is shockingly bad the staff are rude a pay not attention to personal hygiene.. the old guy with glasses couldn't have sneezed in more places without covering his face I think the food standards people should be visiting and quick

Customer service is non existent! If you order a takeaway to be delivered and your order is incorrect it is a waste of time contacting them as they completely ignore all correspondence even if a refund is due.

Really hate to leave a bad review as have been coming here for many years however standards have slipped. Ordered two deliveries recently and both times the pizza was not what I ordered. The first time I was brushed off and told I would be given a credit next time I ordered. Never happened. The following time my meat supreme had no meat - just the extras (peppers and onion) that I ordered. I shan’t be returning. Have been back and more rude service. Their reply is nonsense - they have no intention of making this right.

I have been coming here for 20 years. What is wrong with this place? The short lippy woman behind the counter who has so much attitude! I ordered a pizza. They didn’t ask if I wanted thin crust or Dee pan. A moment later I said could I have it thin crust and was told it was too late. She started an argument and even though the pizza hadn’t been made refused to change it. This is the fifth bad experience here. Have previously complained and they’ve apologised and asked me to call so they can make it right. They didn’t. Avoid this place. Small business…. Yeah good riddance.

Lamb shish seriously undercooked, not just rare, raw and not even hot through. Why not just cook it for long enough?! There wasn’t even anyone else waiting. Such a waste.

Excellent quality of service and friendly amazing food

As a loyal customer never had a problem since, The delivery driver didn’t have my change £4 said he’d bring it back which didn’t bother(it’s just the point) I done a order for collection 3x chips and kids meal were missing I called to explain the lady said well we can just give you more chips next time what is the problem. The problem is that I came all the way from St Albans, after calling me a liar saying they’re going CCTV they called me back saying they’ll give me half my order money back. I called today explained with my name etc the guy called me a liar and said ‘why would he give me free stuff I either pay for it all of go elsewhere’ this place is going down hill the new girl staff members are so RUDE. I will never use this place again because of the way they’ve treated me and how little they don’t care about there customers. Wouldn’t waste your time ordering to get half a order, give your money to a company that actually appreciate your custom.

Have been a customer for a very long time however the standards have slipped. Aside from the delivery time always being far off the estimated time, the pizza dough is often very undercooked, to the point it looks transparent. The burger we had last light came with a burnt, stale bun and the chips and scampi were very under-done. The delivery was also 30 mins late. If it was a one off, I wouldn't say anything, but having complained to the shop before, my feedback went unnoticed. Back in the day standards were good but they have slipped.

Excellent local kebab shop, friendly staff and home delivery to Harpenden and many neighbouring villages. I particularly love the lamb shish and Kofte which is marinated and prepared onsite.

Ordered was given a delivery time but had to wait over 2 hours I called to chase but was met with “Yeah we have been busy “ Food arrived

First and last time we ordered from here. Absolutely rip off, even called restaurant they were aware that they missold us. Item was missing, rude staff.Never ever again.

We were so looking forward to our kebabs. Were told it would be delivered in 45 mins. Eventually arrived nearly 2 hours later. Was cold and the meat was very dry and overcooked. The chips were also cold and soggy. Very disappointed.

Very disappointing, cold burger the chicken hadn’t been cooked properly and still frozen in the middle. Cheesy chips had the smallest amount of cheese and the cheese hadn’t been melted and the chicken kebab was terrible I couldn’t eat it, I’m not sure if it was even chicken it tasted awful! The whole thing looked like it had been rushed and slapped together. Overall a very disappointing meal we won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend.

We have eaten from here 3 times, 2 times the order was incorrect when my wife rang up the second time about a missed side dish he accused my wife of lying . Beware more orders are wrong than are right if you use here for your food

Forgettable chips did not detract from lean slices of the best lamb and a delicious variety of the best mixture of salad veg. Under no pressure to have chili sauce, I opted for burger sauce on my take-away, and this proved a delicious addition. Great choice of soft drinks, and friendly staff too!

I ordered a chicken wrap £6:80 I can honestly tell you I have had more meat on a beef flavored crisp, the portion of chicken was so small I thought I had turned vegetarian as all I can taste was salad ,,, The little bit of chicken tasted nice ,however ,, it was not enough infact I felt like I was being scammed , I no many a Turkish man that would be embarrassed to serve that portion ! Sorry it’s a no for me !! 2/10

wonderful kebab shop. I order from here weekly and they never disappoint! Would recommend a chicken and lamb shish wrap - make sure to try the homemade chilli sauce!! Will be a loyal customer for years to come. The manager and staff are always super friendly and polite even when extremely busy. My favourite takeaway around the local area.

The burgers were ok but the chicken shish wrap was shocking. A hard wrap and four tiny pieces of chicken for £7.50. Not even an option to add salad. Not good value for money.

Possibly the worst kebab we've ever had. Chips were absolute mush. We got a take away and they had put ketchup all over them inside of the closed box with vinegar. Sog dog dog! Chicken kebab (shish) was rock hard, was obviously pre-frozen. Covered in a watery garlic sauce with no onion. Lettuce was fresh but that was about the only nice thing.

Popped in with no cash card only. Received a flyer stating they accept card. Previously told only accept card payment over £10 and before 10pm. Tonight was told cash only at 830pm then some excuse that the machine wasn't working.... Rubbish sort it out its 2020 you should accept card payment like everyone else does.

Lovely food and we always go for shish or chicken doner. Never a disappointment and guess what, staff were happier and friendlier this time! Also we had chilly peppers HOORAY. Makes such a difference to spend money in a place where the staff are friendlier and happier than before. Thanks for the improvement. Just one note, the paper wrapping the kebab could tone down a little. We had 4 layers per wrap.

I've been budding thus restaurant for over 4 years. My daughter's and I are always pleasantly greeted. The food is usually pipping hot and very tasty. I've never been disappointed. I'd recommend any of the kebabs, never had any other items other than chips so can't comment on those, but I can't find any fault with anything from this establishment. Looking forward to my next visit.

We had been regular customers for 24 years I would say the last 3 years it’s gone down hill I ordered again after being disappointed a few times hoping things had improved I am afraid to say that’s its I will not order ever again. The quality and flavours are fSuch a shame.

So we’re regulars here, perhaps once or twice a month we pop in after getting back to Harpenden station late and we can’t be bothered to cook dinner. I don’t think we’ve ever been disappointed and we’ve sampled a good cross section of the menu. Our go-to meal is a chicken shish kebab, we work on the principle that fresh chicken breast cooked on a charcoal grill, served in a grilled pita with salad, must be a pretty healthy meal as far as a kebab shop goes. It is great to see your food cooked fresh while you wait and everything looks clean and hygienic. The guys that work there are always polite and accommodating (we often ask for the salad to be separate). The quality of the meat is good, particularly if you go for the fresh chicken or lamb on a skewer as opposed to the doner. The salad is pretty decent too. I think it is important to remember this is a kebab shop, so expectations should be moderated accordingly. That said, we’re picky and we would not go back time and time again if it wasn’t decent. I guess it is slightly on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for.

They do the best chicken Shish I’ve tasted and always had really friendly service from them! The card payment thing over £10 is slightly annoying but cash point is only a minute down the road if it’s less

I have visited this kebab shop several times. The food is good. But. They dont listen. I get a take out and get it wrapped for takeout. About 50% it is what I ordered...the other 50% it is very annoying to get home with a kebab and not a wrap (always that way round). This has happened multiple times.They are also passive and have a don"t care attitude with no interaction with the customer other. If i was the owner i would give the staff a rocket before they lose their business...

Staff attitude was not great as after giving the order (which was above the £10 threshold) they refused to take card payment as they only would accept cash. Even though I questioned they accept this form of payment as per their menu and inside shop board. He explained they only accept card payment after 5pm!

I didn’t hear my order and when I did, I asked for some ketchup, they refused, I threatened them with 1 star on tripadvisor and the kebab shop owner squared up to me and started trying to fight me, awful and unnessecary customer service, why are you getting violent to me over asking for some more ketchup, GROW UP

Ordered some kebabs for the family. The service was great and the kebabs were great (according to everyone afterwards!). Never had an issue with Harpenden Grill Kebab & Pizza and I quite often use it when with friends after a night out in Harpenden.

Don’t normally write reviews... but Last few times have had food delivered, always been hot, tasty and generous portions.. one time got order wrong but man over phone was more than helpful and got a generous discount on my next order. Keep up the good work guys :)

Went in for a load of food and asked the guy for a sample of doner meat to try, he walked away. That is ignorance. poor.

Unreal. After a night out, beved up with the boys, this goes down a treat. Bossman is friendly, prices are cheap and the friendly atmosphere always makes me look foward to my next Stella. I dont have kids, but imagine the love that I would feel for them is the same as for this place.

This kebab shop opens late and offers a good selection of kebabs at reasonable prices. Only criticism is sometimes the meat is not hot enough and they miss out on including peppers unless you ask.

What happened to the original amazing service and kebabs? Two visits this month... 1st - no chicken doner,so had a lamb doner. Perfect if you want new fillings. So full of bone I couldn't eat it. 2nd visit - no chicken doner again, so chicken shish. Bit tasteless. So sad that after 15 years, I have to resort to a new kebab shop.

Spent £8.50 on a mixed kebab and it was mainly salad with a handful of dry meat. Then they charged me for having my sauces in pots rather than on the actual kebab... AND had the cheek to charge me for three drinks without asking!!!

Chicken donar wrap is great. Nice thin wrap if you don’t like heavy pitta bread, loads of salad and loads of tasty chicken. It’s so great that I just want another, even when full.

Went here last week after work but never again while i was standing looking at the menu the bald headed guy kept tutting at me because i was taking my time to order he kept saying yes please yes please while i still hadnt chosen.. I decided on scampi & chips what a mistake that was the scampi was over cooked and was rock hard and the chips were undercooked.. i asked if i could have some mayo thought it would be put in a little container but No Flooded the whole container with mayo i thought the scampi was going to swim out of the box there was so much.. and how does chicken nuggets sound like scampi..asked for scampi he puts chicken nuggets in fryer.. until the other guy corrected him.. the bald guy that i think is the manager has no people skills and needs to sent on a customer service training course.. dam right rude no wonder i was the only one in there.. this place has been there for years surprised it hasnt been closed down.. Please AVOID and save your money not nice

On a Thursday night at midnightit was the only place open, a major plus. Food was good and decent price. Would go again. 😀

Food cold on delivery... called to inquire got told they were too busy and after waiting 50 mins for cold food ... got a 40 min wait offered... basically to the back of que again . Or money off next order another day Pathetic

This time a hit and the chicken doner was better.... it depends if they give you leftover I suppose. The staff are friendly, so I would ignore what others have put on reviews, maybe they don't like serving drunk people or bunch of teenagers during school holidays, because that's often the crowd after 10pm.

I've been here several times, the customer service of the staff is poor and at times comes across as being rude. The food is very inconsistent and twice it has actually made me ill. I won't be going back.

Delicious Turkish food well cooked and with fresh ingredients. Staff friendly and meals very good value.

Good selections of food & always quick service for takeaway - open late too! Parking a little awkward but so long as it's not peak hours you can park on the yellows in Victoria Road! ;-)

Tried to use this place twice - waste of time on both occasions - first time the chip fryer wasn't working but they didn't tell anyone for ages and the second time they close early on a Friday night - queue of people just got off train outside, customers inside still waiting to be served proprietor says "go home and get your mum to cook you something" to another customer. Lovely. Giving up even going to this place anymore, not worth it. Better to eat in London before you get the train.
