I travelled up from Southampton for the day to meet up with an old school friend, who recommended this pub for lunch. What a great place - very friendly and welcoming manager (Kim), excellent beer (Westerham 1965) and one of my favourites off the special's board, faggots, chips and veg, made for a most enjoyable lunch. No complaints about the 'facilities' and the sunny weather meant we sat outside, which was very pleasant despite it being next to a main thorughfar through the village. Definitely hope to get an excuse to go back!

Attended the Hare & Hounds for a Coronation Afternoon Tea We had a wonderful time with a fantastic tea The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and they coped extremely well considering the inclement weather prevented people sitting outside. We had a couple of children in our party and they were made to feel special with their own tea boxes which were full of goodies.

I went with two friends, and we all had a fabulous meal. Every dish was excellent, and every last bite was eaten. There was nothing pretentious about the food. It was good pub fare, well-presented, and delicious. My lasagne was excellent, the fudge cake dessert the lightest I ever had, and my friend's lemon tart was 'sublime'. Plus, it was the most reasonably priced meal we'd had in ages. The pub is small, comfortable, and charming, with a lovely atmosphere, and the service was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. A little gem and a wonderful find. The Hare and Hounds is now THE place for our get-togethers. We will be returning.

Popped in here with the wife for lunch on the way to staying in a Spa hotel nearby. Owner/landlord was a great guy, very chatty and amenable who happily accommodated my wife's request for dishes not on the menu (Fishfinger Baguette with salad & chips). I had a Cheeseburger, chips & slaw which was really good, all washed down with a pretty good pinot and some decent beers. All in all a very enjoyable lunch at a reasonable price. Our car broke down outside this pub - we were there for several hours. They couldn't have been kinder or more helpful. Food (chicken green thai/ with spinach) curry was delicious. They made calls for us to get a taxi home (as RAC let us down so badly- 10.5 hours before the car was picked up) and got together staff and customers to push our car to a safer place. It all made such a horrible day so much better: Thank you!By the way, they now have track & trace and were very vigilant about customers not coming too close to or leaning on the bar.

Never having been to Godstone beforehand reading reviews we thought this place would be OK. We arrived and parked our car, the landlady rushed out to tell us we could not park where we were. So we moved the car. On entering the pub we got the sense it was run down, not many people in. We ordered from the menu, my partner ordered a burger with chips and salad, I ordered scampi chips and salad. The burger was very thin and my partner said it was tasteless. Scampi etc just about ok. As we were walking around we saw another pub, think it was the White Hart which looked very welcoming and also looked busy.

We had ordered burgers and chips, it was a very busy night, and not much room to move around, the stuff were running around trying g to find the people that had ordered food.It was a bit mad and crazy, but I felt their pain, I've been a waitress before and it's not easy when its extremely busy and your the only one taking out the food. All n all it was a blast.Myself and my partner really enjoyed ourselves and it was nice to get out of Dorking, and be somewhere new.

Went there for lunch on a wet day. Nice and cosy atmosphere and the dining room was full. Choose from the lunch menu rather than the full menu. I had the soup and chicken baguette with salad and crisps, my friend skipped the starter and choose sorbet from the dessert selection. Waited a long time for the soup which was luke warm and tasted suspiciously like tinned. The baguette was truly awful, dry chicken in a mediocre baguette and very salty. My friend's sorbet was good. The coffee was the best part of the meal. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day here, rather a shame as the venue is an old coach-house with bags of character and our waitress was very good. Next time I'll choose the Bell

It came in a very cheap bun with a side of chips. I wish I had saved the money! The kids ordered pizzas that were Chicago town mini deep dish pizzas. These can be had for £1 for two in the supermarkets. The chili looked very bland, but they made up to it with enough rice to feed most of China. When we commented on the burger, we were met with a disinterested shrug.I wouldn't come here again. Both dinners were lovely. I haven't had such a delicious roast dinner for a very long time. Not only were the vegetables freshly cooked, the beef a good cut, it was also piping hot which makes a change these days. Absolutely delicious and if we lived nearer it would become a local for us. This place is what I call a "pub pub". And a fantastic one at that!No it hasn't got swanky decor, or a posh wine list. It does have delicious home cooked food, real ales and a warm welcome! We popped in on the off chance they had a table as we were visiting the area. They accommodated us (6 adults and 3 children) straight away.Food was fantastic! It says home cooked on the front of the pub and that's what we got. The ham was off the bone and cooked so it melted in your mouth. The Lasagne was home made. Lovely braised lamb shanks came out with minty gravy. I had the last rib of beef off the specials board which had an amazing flavour and fell off the bone. The gravy served with it seemed to be made with bourbon which complimented it perfectly. The vegetables were steamed fresh and to perfection with a good bite to them. There was a choice of potatoes with all dishes. All the kids meals came with a choice of pudding which they thoroughly enjoyed. We all ordered pudding which were delicious traditional sponges / tarts etc and the portions were generous too. The land lady behind the bar made conversation with us and the kids. Very friendly. She changed the channel on the nearest tv for the boys who wanted to watch the football. If you want proper food and a relaxed atmosphere this place is ideal. We chose this pub rather than the nearby White Hart because we didn't want pub food that was a standard menu that you can find anywhere. The White Hart is a Beefeater. The pub was everything you'd expect from a country pub and the waitress who was very busy and appeared to be alone was friendly and helpful. The food was ok. We both had ham, egg and chips. It was slightly overpriced but well presented and came with a nice side salad. The eggs were cold and the chips overdone but the ham and salad were tasty. We decided to stay for dessert. I had choc fudge cake and cream, I had hoped the cake would be warm but it wasn't. It was average but good value at £2.95. My husband had the Bakewell tart and custard. The custard was ridiculously hot. We'd had to wait a while for it to arrive and then wait again for it to cool down. Half way through my husband gave up eating it because the spoon was so small it was like eating with a teaspoon, not easy with custard. I doubt we'll be returning.

I have very recently moved into the village and have been made extremely welcome here. I think the landlord and landlady are lovely and the atmosphere is friendly. In the past I have enjoyed sitting outside and watching whatever is happening on Godstone Green be it the cricket, the summer village fete or the fair in the Spring. The other pubs in the village are fine but, for the genuine article, it has to be The Hare and Hounds.

On entering the pub found it to be very tired and shabby, had a look on the menu and decided to go for cod and chips and mushy peas. When it arrived it looked as if it came out of a frozen box and tasted not nice even birdseye would have been embarressed by it.The mushy peas turned out to be frozen peas The staff were not really helpfull at all. In future we will continue to drive pass.

We stopped at the Hare and Hounds for lunch on a long walk.We ordered a simple lunch - stilton ploughmans, gammon ploughmans and a bowl of chips - and we had a couple of pints of shandy. The bill was £30. The bread was warm and nice. However, the meals didn't come with butter, and when we asked for some we were provided with a paltry amount. The Stilton was not a very good Stilton. The gammon was good. The salad was frankly akin to garnish. it was basically a deconstructed cheese/ gammon sandwich. There are nice views over the green from sitting outside but the benches are, at a minimum, in need of refurbishment. The landlady (if it was her) did not seem particularly happy on the day we visited. The inside of the pub was not great. The toilets need refurbishing. We wished we'd visited one of the other establishments locally.

We live locally and have tried this pub several times over the last three years, last time was last month.Fabulous location oposite village green where you can have a pint and watch cricket etc. Inside the pub is tired and shabby. Landlady appears unhappy in her work as she was soooo miserable and grumpy. Totally blanked anyone that was not a regular. Odered burger and chips and got tepid, reheated fragments of old chips. The burger could have been used to re-heel your shoe.It is a shame as from the outside it is such a lovely looking pub in a great location that seems so inviting. Each time I have been inside, the regulars stop and stare (you expect the tumbleweed to roll past) and the staff have the knack of making you feel like they are doing you a huge favour taking your money for their food and drink. I have always found the beer good, but the food is nasty.I did go on a quiz night and again found the staff only interested in the regulars. Shame.

I often visit the Hare & Hounds with my wife and daughter for dinner, The food is excellent and price is excellent. They allways leave off of bits I don't want, and my 3 year old has bespoke 'off the menu' meals as we are both fussy eaters.

I visited this establishment on a business trip with a colleague for drinks. The only cash notes I had in my purse were denominations of £5. While paying I was told that these notes were not accepted because staff could not verify authenticity of them which is surprising considering all bank notes contain security features. I offered to pay by card and was told that a transaction fee would apply. To avoid the fee I was left counting together change from my purse. I found the experience embarrassing and unnecessary.

Very good nice to go to a real pub. friendly, helpful staff. The food was tasty, wonderful fresh vegetables ( which is very rare these days). The steak was delicious and so was the obviously homemade pepper sauce - it had a kick like a mule!!

M friend and I visited this pub on Thurday night. The staff were attentive and the beer was to a good standard. The interior was stand old world. However the food was terrible and over priced. In fact I would say that the steak I had was the worst bit of meat I have paid for.The specials board was interesting, but I and my friend qwill not be going back.

Arrived in a walking group, thirsty and ravenous. We'd booked a table but the place was practically empty. Ordered shepherds pie (£7.50) It took a long time to arrive, and was very poor. Other diners ordered things that they were later told were off, but that was after waiting some time. Service was surly. I would not recommend.

A nice old pub in the heart of Godstone village. A decent pint of real ale. But if I was asked to rank the pub food I have eaten in more than forty years the offerings in the Hare & Hounds might make a short list of one for the bottom slot. Shamefully poor.
