Came here for a drink on my first night arriving in Garlieston, restaurant very busy so decided to book for a meal the following night, was still full from a battered sauaage supper from Newton Stewart!! Staff all very welcoming and pleasant. Lovely old small bar at front, and lots of tables and benches outside to enjoy an evening dusk pint and relax. Food was ok, restaurant very busy, was taken into table at the back room but this seemed to be where all the children are, music pretty loud so not that relaxing, ask for a table at the front part if you can. Would gladly eat in again, wasnt rushed and evening nicely finished off with a leisurely pint in the back garden

Our meal here was excellent! We had steak pie, mac and cheese, and sea bass. The meat in the pie was tender and juicy. The mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy and perfect consistency. The sea bass was very fresh and perfectly cooked. For dessert, I chose the Scottish tablet ice cream. This was like a sundae, with tablet in the bottom and vanilla ice cream on top. Was delicious. And all pretty reasonably priced. Staff all very friendly and attentive, and all covid related guidelines etc followed.

We had eaten lunch at The Harbour In the day before, the service and food was excellent so we looked forward to attending for our evening meal the next day !! Well the two visits could not have been so diffferent !!! The restauarant was not busy, we were seen to promptly and food order placed. Between ordering our food and it turning up was a joke !!! The staff it would appear have been programmed to look after regulars and people they know - which was clear when our main courses turned up and we hadnt had our starter !!! The waitress offered to keep our meal warm until we had our main courses !!! NO !!! recook the main courses once we have had the starter !!! Waitress who took our order couldnt even look us in the face as she fannied about hotel guests and people she knew !!! My daugther works in a busy eatery and can look after 20 covers on her own no problem because she has been trained well and understands that customers pay her wages and give her good tips for the service and professionalism she displays !!! Only tip I have for The Harbour Inn waiting staff is dont bother turning up if all you are interested in is chatting and cuddling your regulars, all customers matter !!!

I recommend booking as there aren't many pubs in the area sadly and there is a near by campervan park. We did the local walk to Craggleston Castle then returned for lunch. I had the beer battered fish and chips and it was one of the nicest fish I've had, really crispy batter. 1 real ale, Belhaven 80 shilling. A beer garden out the back but too cool for that today.

Visited whilst staying in Garlieston. Phoned the day before to book, left a voicemail, but no return call. Managed to book a table eventually. Food was good and plentiful . We were served by a total of 4 waitresses. Same waitress forgot to bring the dessert menu when requested, she eventually remembered BUT the second pint my hubby ordered at the same time as dessert never materialised. He couldn’t be bothered to wait any longer and no one picked up on the fact there was an empty pint glass at the end of the table! I’d finished my wine by then so we paid and left. It was a shame because some of the other waitresses seemed far more diligent.

We have visited many times before over the years, but felt that the Harbour Inn, while still excellent, isn't quite as good as it was. They have careful coronavirus precautions in place and good social distancing between tables. However, we felt the menu was not as good. We did find something to eat but it just didn't seem as fresh and creative as before. We will definitely return but I hope the limited menu choice was a temporary thing.

We were really looking forward to eating here after the reviews but it didn't live up to expectations. Service was slow and we waited a very long time for drinks although we did receive an apology as they had forgotten. Staff were friendly and explained they were really busy as there was a birthday party in another room. Food was ok but nothing special, the fish was fresh and a good portion but the batter was very oily. I think we were just unlucky.

Great value, excellent location with some stunning beaches nearby. Very good value, honest home cooked food in the pub. Apartment was very clean with everything you need including washing machine. Some of the furniture is cheap/dated but it is comfy and clean. Entrance stairway way is not the most appealing but considering the price of well below £100 a night for four people we felt it was excellent value and the staff were fantastic and friendly. I Would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice quiet get away surrounded by fantastic views and beaches. Thank you very much for a lovely stay :)

Those of us who are sufficiently fortunate to have the 'Harbour Inn' on our doorstep throughout the year are never surprised at its popularity when the holiday season commences such is the ever present warmth on entering from all who pleasantly service this place, until leaving. Yesterday evening held no exception. The weekly tempting variety menu apart, Friday seafood specials from our experience provide succulent 'Starters' and spoilt-for-choice 'Mains'. "How about":- Cajun spiced fillet of Halibut with oven roasted vegetables, lime and parsley butter with a choice of side order. (That beautifully cooked dish really 'hit the spot') My wife thoroughly enjoyed 'Pan seared fillet of Sole' served with Haggis mash potato, cheddar and (Arran whisky sauce thoughtfully served separately) with a side of vegetables. Thank you all at the 'Harbour Inn' for the past 12 months of 'Friday Seafood Specials' and now looking forward to the next twelve months. (- lack of 'foody photos' I'm afraid. It's taken several years for me to appreciate that my photographs never ever reflect the amount of effort in presentation nor convey the lovely aromas or flavour)

Just returned from a terrible experience at the Harbour Inn. We had high hopes for this establishment given the recent good reviews. We both decided to plump for the carvery, as we were not keen on the standard menu items which sounded a bit like a motorway service station menu. We had to leave our table and walk past the toilet corridor and into another room to collect our food, We probably realised on first sight that this was not going to go well as the food looked rather like school dinners. We both decided to give the roast beef a try. The lady struggled to carve it it was so tough. A lady who we think was the owner had to help pull the end away...then two tiny slithers were allocated to me, .A Yorkshire pudding was then flung on to my plate, two roast potatoes and help yourself carrots and peas. We then made our way back from the other room to the main restaurant and started to eat. Everything apart from the meat was cold. The meat was as expected, completely overdone. I can’t describe the roast potatoes, so I won’t try to. We called over a waitress to tell her and she said well no one else has complained. There was no attempt by any of the owners to come to the table and so we asked the waitress if we could pay for the drinks. We told us to pay for them at the bar, which we did. Very disappointing.

I had reservations about staying somewhere so quiet but I was so wrong. The pub was great, the locals and staff so friendly I wish we could have stayed longer. The food was good and a huge choice so well done will certainly come back

The Harbour Inn is a cosy bar full of character - we loved the open fire. The bar meals were delicious - good portions for a reasonable price. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The inn really added to our stay in Garlieston.

Great meal and prompt service, I had sea bass daily special and other half had hunters chicken. Both were delicious. We decided on dessert but was just too full after our main to finish. I had the strawberry cheese cake and other half had chocolate fudge cake. A great meal and the merlot was great!

Have stayed in Garlieston in campervan a couple of times and always pop in here for glass of something and food and never disappointed. Warm and welcoming for us and dogs, food is always great and just love the veggie options. Seafood always fresh and delicious. And q family run business too which is good to support. Highly highly recommend.

Had been out for a walk at nearby gardens with the dog, and popped in on the chance they were dog friendly. Made to feel very welcome, as was our dog! Lovely pub grub, good sized portions, friendly staff and locals. Will definitely return.

Not to detract from the daily menu but yesterday was a welcome return of the 'Friday Evening Seafood Specials Menu' following a break during December over the Christmas and New Year festivities. The usual high standard of cheerful pleasant service from Laura on entering the 'pub' continued through to Wendy and Rachel in the dining room.

We arrived on a Saturday night and thought that we would get a table no problem given that it was November but the pub was packed full of locals all celebrating something. We managed to get a table and the food was served by a friendly local girl who chatted to us while serving us our delicious food. I can’t pick one plate over the other as all four plates were delicious. We went to the bar where the friendly locals made us feel really welcome. Would I go back? You bet. I can’t wait.

Not just a pub in an idyllic location but, the staff hospitality is second to none. The food is lovely especially the Sunday Carvery. What is worth a mention is on our trip this time my wife had a bad leg and was having a job to walk. I just happened to mention this to the landlord who said "Hold on a minute let me have a look out the back" A few minutes later he came back holding a stick! "Will this do?" Perfect, I said. We also attended their Free Halloween Disco which had a fantastic DJ who sang as well and there were free nibbles provided. This pub adds value to their customers and is a real asset to the Borders.

We were staying at the local caravan park. Popped into pub after lovely walk. Got warm welcome as did the dog! My husband had steak pie beautiful flake pasty and succulent beef! I had the fish pie. Just missed a wee bit off seasoning but I added it at the table. Very good crack in bar after meal with the dominoes gang! Haven’t laughed so much in a wee bar for a long time. Well done all.

We were back in the area again on holiday after an 18 month abscense. The last time we visited here it was excellent in both Food, Drink and a good Craic. The problem they have is it is such a good pub is how can they improve it and the answer is they dont need to. They have added a Fish on Friday Menu with varied sea-food but the fire is still there, super dog friendly, Superb Harbour Ale and Guinness. Nothing fazes them the host Harry and his Son Frankie are genial, welcoming and you are at home in an instant. This is not a Gastro Pub with ever more outlandish dishes, they focus on being a pub with Steaks, Fish and Chips, Pies and a choice of about 4 wines. Nothing is too much trouble, their staff are hassle free and actually believe in customer service, Laura is outstanding. The locals are mostly quite mad or they are sane and the visitor is mad, I am still not quite sure but it is enormous fun finding out. One of the best Locals I have been into and I have been into a few.
