Haka Take-Away in Wokingham

Tried this takeaway for the first time and found the online ordering very good but the food was a different story. All the dishes were swimming in a tasteless grey liquid and the food was soggy like it has been kept warm and not cooked in a wok. The chicken was very white and looked like preformed children’s plastic toy food and rubbery, everything lacked taste. Very average food and won’t be using again there is an outstanding take away nearby.

First time ordering and wasn’t disappointed. Food was delicious and was the best Chinese takeaway we have had in a while! Definitely be ordering again !

This has got to be the worst takeaway we’ve had in years. We ordered special fried rice, mixed veg with cashews and chicken chop Sui. Having got home, we’ve got chicken with cashew, not the vegetable dish we ordered. All of the dishes are tasteless, the chicken in both dishes appears to have been boiled, the rice has hardly any of the additional ingredients that you would expect in special fried rice. We certainly won’t be ordering from here again.

I went in to order food for the family. When finally served I was pointed to a website address and asked to order online. I felt that was very rude, so went elsewhere.

Another fantastic meal delivered by Haka Wokingham. We had Spring rolls starter, Nine season prawns, Beef in basil, Chicken with mounge tout and singapore noodles. I pre ordered on line the day before so you can be sure of getting it delivered at the time you want. We always serve it in serving bowls on a tale heat tray, it was fantastic. Thank you Haka :))

One of the worst Chinese’s I’ve ever had.. the crispy chilli beef didn’t have beef in.. explain that one?! Egg fried rice bland, along with the dry spring rolls, partner got food poisoning from her dish.. AVOID!

This was take away ! The food was tasteless, will not go there again , overpriced , very disappointed, had to pay for delivery as well !

First time trying Haka and we had one of the nicest Chinese takeaways we have had since moving to the area! Really tasty and well cooked.. will be our go to from now on.

Placed a large order and decided to try something new including Singapore Noodle 星米. When it was delivered it contained shrimps which I am deadly allergic to. Call the restaurant and was advised just throw it in bin, we don’t accept refunds and the next time you just stated no shrimps in the order. No apologies no offer of goodwill nothing. What an absolute cheek as the websites only states SI: Singapore Noodle 星米 Fried Singapore Rice Noodles (spicy) £7.10. Will not be ordering from them again and advise anyone who has allergies to reconsider their choices.

What a JIOKE you have turned into! Its a shame as you used to be a GREAT take-away, with great service and food, but now you have lost yet another customer. Placed the order online told to collect in 10 mins, but no one at the shop to hand over the order, kitchen staff dont want to open the door and deal with the line of customers outside! Long story short managed to get my food but tasted like rubber and old shoes, no way I will get my money back either which is really annoying A little suggestion, if you can't man the shop DONT TAKE ORDERS! BETTER STILL CLOSE DOWN!

Received a takeaway this evening. Was initially so impressed as delivered super quick but sadly was such a bland tasteless meal. Sadly won’t order again

The spring rolls had very little meat and tasted like banana milkshake. Missing the prawn crackers we ordered, no response. Seaweed too salty to eat. Chicken was too tough and dry, couldn’t eat. Beef Chow mien was poor, no flavour. Mostly rubbish and at 50 not good value. Delivery took 1 hour. Will avoid.

....a once great takeaway is taken over by new management and it then serves sub-standard and downright unpleasant food. This is what has happened here. Very disappointing. Avoid.

Advised the food would take an hour to be delivered on a family members birthday this evening and after 2 hours nothing received… I went down to Haku to investigate and they told me and others that they could not fulfil the order as they’re too busy? However, they were completing order for customers within 15-20 minutes in store? This is the second time this has happened within as many months although the first time I actually got some food after waiting an additional hour inside. Will never use again.

Ordering food should be easy, you order, it’s delivered, you eat. This place is genius you order and it doesn’t turn up, what a money maker, couldn’t tell you what it tastes like, as it never got here, said it did thou….. still hungry!

Got a takeaway from Hama this evening, and it was the best, tastiest, freshest Chinese meal I have had. Will definitely be using this takeaway again.

Very disappointing service! Missing a chow mein in the order and could not get through to them on the phone or contact them through their website to tell them. Would not recommend.

The food was very tasty and i very enjoyed it, the portions were just perfect. they brought out the food quite quickly and didnt take to long. I would recomend this take away if you want some traditional chinese food.

Having traveled extensively it is disappointing to report the worst customer service I have ever had or seen from what until now has been my go too local takeaway. Having dropped in to give my order and been given the standard 25 minute waiting time, 90 minutes later I left with a full refund and no food. I left a queue of other similarly disappointed customers the common denominator being ordering in person or for collection. The issue appeared to be prioritising Just Eat delivery clients and sod everyone else. Orders were quite clearly not being dealt with in the order received. At one point the manager apologised to everyone and promised that they had stopped taking orders and would clear everyone within 10 minutes. This was clearly not true and 30 minutes later I requested my refund which was given with not much more than a shrug of the shoulders. Clearly after many years of regular custom I won’t be back.

I ordered at 7.30pm, said it would be delivered at 8.30pm when it didn’t arrive I called the restaurant to ask if they could track the driver as it was ordered though just eat! They said it’s out for delivery, I asked whether I should call back at 9.15pm if it hadn’t arrived they said yes. Knowing full well they close at 9pm I was unaware of this, disgusting service and to top it off they put delivered on the just eat app. £60 down the drain as I highly doubt I will receive a refund from this hideous service.

So the food is very tasty . But and it’s a big but . Every time we get a delivery it’s missing an item . Despite all there promises of we’ll sort it next time nothing happens . You don’t get a refund , nothing . There’s no point trying to ring to complain/get the missing item delivered as it takes hours . You have to visit , which defeats the whole delivery thing . It’s a takeaway check the bags , how difficult is it . Once okay but the last four times . Given up on them now . And if they do they that to many effectively there upscaling there margins by short changing . On Sat gone the place was In chaos, one customer who was waiting in shop who had placed an online order was told it hadn’t been received . ?? He left empty handed fuming . Get your logistics sorted people it’s not difficult .

DO NOT USE THIS TAKEAWAY emailed an order in the afternoon. Followed up requesting a confirmation. No response. Telephoned as soon as they opened. Gave my name and they said yes no problem. Order ok. They had received it. Went to collect. They said no order. Complete pandemonium with other customers all arguing their orders no ready. After 25 minutes trying to get clarification of email and order left with nothing. Cannot rate the food. SERVICE ATROCIOUS

ordered at 5.10. told 30-40 minutes.rang after 50 minutes and they had lost the order. Female then blamed it on COVID, i said rubbish. Found my order and would be with us in 5-10 minutes. arrived 20 minutes later and the chinese man started shouting at my wife stating no more deliveries at the weekend at my address.

Didn’t even receive our food after the chef shouted at us on the phone and hung up. Ordered well in advance but they didn’t see our order. AWFUL

Amazing food! Ive tried most of the Chinese in Wokingham and the surround areas and I think this is the best!

The food from this restaurant used to be top-notch, but since there seem to be new staff, the chance of getting the correct food has gone down, and the quality of that which arrives is now very hit-and-miss. I sent back tonight’s order as one dish was terribly overcooked and I didn’t even check the second dish (as what was the point of it all by itself) and telephoned to politely request a refund, only to be harangued, abused and sworn at. Appalling behaviour. I have been a good customer and order about three times a week. Not any more.

Haka used to be the best Chinese in the area, but went rapidly downhill a few years ago. Decided to give it another chance and was pleasantly surprised. Friendly service, great food, not quite as good as it used to be, but still very good. Meal for 4 (F) was great value for money and would now recommended them again...p.s. they also deliver, tho we collected

We ordered hot and spicy beef, Szechuan chicken, king prawns with mixed vegetables, barbecue pork with soy, egg fried rice, Nasi Goreng (spicy special fried rice) and mixed stir fried vegetables. There wasn’t a scrap of food left. Brilliant quality and service.

Appreciate they’re busy with the covid crisis and expected things to take a bit longer.But we placed our order at 18:15 and waited and waited, nearly 3 hours and over 30 either engaged or unanswered calls we gave up.I don’t understand how they can run a business without fulfilling orders or even answering the phone?

Lived in wokingham for 30+ years so as you can imagine we have eaten everywhere over this period. Having had a poor take away 6months back we have avoided. Unfortunately we needed a take away that delivered this evening due to not being able to walk to town to collect. Ordered at 6:15pm still no sign by 8pm and told on the phone its on its way twice. Appreciate its friday, appreciate its busy but this is so poor we will never use again and will tell everyone we know. Liars and incompetent. Food again was poor to average in comparison to the Shanghai.Avoid.

Another fantastic meal Friday night from the Haka:) We had it delivered too, which always helps. We ordered singapore noodles, beef curry, king prawn chowmien, and spicy chicken. delivered within time specified and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you team at the Hake :))

Such a shame - I could always rely on Haka to provide top quality takeaway food. It was such a disappointment last night to find crispy duck was all skin and no duck meat and generally food was not of expected standard. Will have to look foe a new Chinese takeaway !

have had takeaway a few times from here - and not had a bad dish yet plenty of choice and all the favourites on the menu - that said there is lots of very good competition in the town best place to park is th other side of the road or the car park behind the fire station is free from 6pm -

Been going here for years. When they closed briefly there was not another that compared. Love the simplicity of it and now they even deliver. Only downside, can’t find their menu online when I’ve lost my copy!

YUK worst Chinese food i have ever tasted, if this was a trial to see if i would like the food in china then i would never visit the country.

For years Haka has enjoyed the reputation of best quality Chinese for miles and certainly in the whole of Wokingham. A good measure of quality is the spring rolls - if they’re made fresh, the vegetables inside will be crunchy and the flavour aromatic. Yesterday’s offering were mushy and tasteless inside. Just like the supermarket version. Absolutely horrid. If I want ready meal quality, I’d rather pay ready meal prices and have ready meal convenience. As a whole, the meal did not have those clean stir fried flavours, eg the noodles had a nasty oily taste. I’ll be on the hunt for a replacement Chinese take-away.

We used to have a Chinese takeaway from the Haka regularly. Having not visited in a while thought we would use again. We spent £70 on food and had a good selection, it was very disappointing. Ribs were tough, beef and mushrooms...well this was very poor quality meat, Singapore noodles just lacked a decent flavour.Sorry to say this WAS the best Chinese in Wokingham and has fallen from grace with a bump.AVOID at all costs.

Visited as our usual takeaway was closed for holidays and we used to go to the Haka in Bracknell and thought that was good so, this one must be too. Overall i found all the dishes we ordered were very greasy. It seemed that the food was good quality and reasonably fresh but i just think they have used too much oil in the dishes and over fried certain things so they are past the stage of being crispy but they just soak up the oil. I dont think we will visit again if our normal Chinese is closed.

Ordered on the phone, quoted 15 minutes, an hour later still waiting. When food arrived order was incomplete. Given the number of other options in Wokingham the Haka cannot afford to be this awful. My business will go elsewhere from now on.

We used to call and order our food in advance, always freshly cooked excellent edible food. Such a disappointment when they closed, it will be missed as no other offering good portion sizes for the price

Excellent local Chinese takeaway. Always good quality and they now take credit and bank cards. Parking limit as in the town center but in the evenings not a problem with ample parking to the rear of M&S or three space outside across the road. Would definitely recommend.

Can you call a Chinese take away a holiday highlight? Whenever I stay in Wokingham I look forward to the best Chinese food I have found anywhere. Good prices too. There is always a wait to be served but the queue 'out the door' is just another clue to the quality.

Used to think this was the best in the area, but the last few visits have been a real disappointment. The food has gone downhill significantly. Plus, I cannot look past the stained and half broken ceiling tiles above the counter - surely environmental health would have something to say about that.

Used to LOVE Haka and was the only Chinese we would go to. The management has now changed and the standard of the food has also changed. Chicken is hard and square shaped with minimal flavor. Should have stuck to the same suppliers for their food!

I'm so disappointed with Haka lately! What use to be a favourite is now a place to avoid. Have they recently changed hands? Because it's definitely changed. Will not be ordering from here again which is such a shame as it really was a lovely Chinese.

We don't have a Chinese take away very often but when we do we have found the Haka to be the best around in terms of taste, portion size and freshness of food. We have found it to be consistent. That said what we order is always the same; hot spicy prawn soup and spring rolls and crispy duck. My husband has the pork balls too but I find these (indeed other mains from there and other venues) too sweet and too brightly coloured! The duck is good, not fatty and lots of crispy cucumber and spring onions.Best to phone and order and not just turn up as you could be waiting for ages. Prices reasonable.

Having used the Haka for over 10 years our family have a level of expectation which was far from achieved when we had a take away last weekend.It's difficult to pinpoint, but previously the dishes have always been spot on and well seasoned, tasty and 'moreish'. The best way to describe the most recent offering is bland.I now understand that the restaurant is under new ownership. Regrettably, it's not what it once was and with so much competition in town, the new owners have really got their work cut out.

Having ordered from Haka on previous occasions,(but not in the past month) I was amazed at how it has deteriorated in both service and quality of food.At 6.15 pm New Years Eve I ordered a take away for 2 for collection at 7.30 pm. Being New Years Eve I was expecting a wait perhaps of about 10 minutes............certainly not 50 minutes upon my arrival The restaurant was packed with what I counted to be 15 customers, some of whom had been waiting an hour for their order. Total chaos ensued with confusion over orders and delivery. Disgruntled customers were not amused to say the leastWhen I eventually received my order I found the food to be soggy and saturated with salt making the whole experience a waste of time and money.I advised the counter staff to convey customers sentiments. Lack of staff , total disorganisation and poor quality food make this place now one to avoid.

We had a takeaway from here this week which was surprisingly good. The food was tasty and portion sizes were good. It was extremely busy when we went to collect the food and when we got home we found we had two extra portions of rice and no prawn crackers but that was no big deal. The crispy aromatic duck was very good.

Been using this take-away since we moved to Wokingham 20years ago and never had any complaints - until now.We ordered our usual dishes (curried mushrooms, lemon chicken and chicken fried rice) on the way home from the cinema. Noticed something different as soon as we put the food on the plates - the curry was much darker than usual, and when I took the first mouthful the over-riding taste was of salt. It was so awful I really couldn't eat it. My husband said the lemon chicken wasn't very nice - dry and tasteless - and even the rice was undercooked. Can't say it was because they were busy because we were their only customers!When I started googling I found comments about them changing hands and going downhill, and I couldn't agree more; we won't be going there again. A shame, because they used to be really good.

Have been regularly going to Haka for decades and was never disappointed until recently. Since it has changed hands the quality of the food and cooking has dropped considerably compared to how it was. I think they have had time to get over any teething problems with the changeover but no better this last time so our family will not be using them again.

Best Chinese curry in Berkshire, hands down! (And yes I have tried most of them)! Will be making many more trips to Haka! Staff are friendly and very quick service. Never had to wait more than 10 minutes even on a weekend in busy times.

Totally agree with the comments. Been going to Haka for 10+ years, used to love it. steadily downhill over the past 3 months - and tonight was an all time low ...... should have known from the quiet pickup (that never happens!), the containers were smaller, the dishes made differently, and across the board - all very very poor. Not going back - time to find a new venue!!!!!

We have been Haka customers for many years so looked forward to tonight's takeaway. However the food was awful, hardly any sauce for the lemon chicken which was very dry, chicken and cashew nuts nothing like previous as very little sauce and very salty, the rice was very dry and the noodles tasted strange. I then found out that Haka has new ownership and thus new chefs.....not a patch on what Haka was so need to find another Chinese in the area.

A great takeaway with a great range of choices. The only downside is that it is in the centre of town so parking is usually tricky and the take away is extremely busy, sometimes with the queue out the door, even if you phoned to pre-order

Food tonight wasn't over warm. Considering had to wait an extra 20 min after the waiting time suggested. Good portion sizes. Seems to be different every time I order. Tonight's rib sauce was runny, last week was better and more gloopy. And no prawn crackers with an order????

We have ordered many times from The Haka and today;s meal was extremely poor. The sauce for the sweet and sour was watered down - the special fried rice just consisted of more egg, few peas and a tiny piece of chicken and was not fried. Plus the chicken in the sweet & sour was over cooked.. We also had Beef Chow Mein for which there was no Beef!!!!!!!! I have just since spoken to them and there is a new owner. EXTREMELY POOR FOR THE HAKA

I visit occasionally and find the food good, basic takeaway. The blackbean dishes are very good and the lemon chicken is fine, the sauce is light and fresh. No complaints at all about the food.But the lady taking the orders could be more friendly - she is there to represent the place to customers.

Always use this place as my Saturday night....fall out of the pub into the takeaway! Food consistent and very generous portions. Would be 5/5 but the lady on the counter is always grumpy! Even when you ask her to smile she frowns :)

This is take away only and it's ok.Big portions and the food is just OK, it's not the best you will have from a Chineese but it certainly not the worse you will have ether.Service is quick but does not often come with a smile... Don't think you will get the best, but if your happy with big portions for average cost its the take away for you.

This Chinese takeaway restaurant is now the only Chinese takeout I will consider as everything else pales into insignificance. The food is consistently good - always good punchy flavours, ultra fresh ingredients, prepared on order. Lovely variety of dishes, including Thai, if you like these flavours.

Food was just ok service was appalling the lady who served me had no people skills she just added it all up on a calculator and showed me it didint say a word to me just listened to my order.wont go here again

Have been using the Haka for nearly 20 years now and enjoying Chinese/Japanese/Thai for over 40 years including being stiffed for over £600 at Benihanas Swiss Cottage [see separate review] I feel I have enough experience to rate this great establishment. So why not 5 stars? I don't think any chinese Take away can achieve 5 stars as so much of the product is flash fried and by the time you get it home it will have lost some of its crispness and thus its quality [on the contrary Indians seems to improve with travel/time!] However in the context of a Take Away the Haka takes some beating and always has consistently delivered the highest quality. Be careful on Friday/Saturday nights as just walking in may result in a 30 minute wait so phone your order over! I was given a 10 minute wait last week and it was there ready to go on my arrival, cant ask for better than that. And still great value.

Visit this Chinese monthly have dine for years last 2 have been extremely poor satay tonight was inedible pink, fatty very bad. Chow neon was just as bad brown fatty chicken and to top it 45min wait instead of 20min and cash only which caused chaos !!!!

Choice of dishes, home-cooked taste, competitive price. Our grown-up children still come 'home' for a take-way from here ... says it all really!

Good take-away and very friendly staff who are happy to oblidge when you ask them not to put MSG into the food as thats how I prefer it. Some will have it in already though! Otherwise very tasty collection service.

Fantastic food excellent if you a are entertaining. It is always busy but it is certainly worth the wait.

If you get a Chinese take away then you pretty much are going to get the same as here. The food is pretty standard and the service was quick. It has been here a long time and is busier than most in the area so I'd recommend it.

Me and my boyfriend love the Haka, we've tried other chinese takeaways when over at friends houses but both agree that we have yet to try one that matches up to the Haka's standard. Thinking anout it I can't think of a better Chinese takeaway that I went to before I moved to Wokingham.Dishes we love: salt & pepper chicken, hot and spicy chicken, beef in black bean sauce, crispy chilli beef, garlic & salt prawns, BBQ spare ribs, prawn toast and satay chicken skewers to name a few!

Situated in the centre of town, it is a great location to sell Chinese Take-Away. Always busy which is a good sign however I do wish some of the front of house staff would engage on a customer service course. Quite curt on the telephone and that does not improve when inside the restaurant. Could do with being friendly towards their customers. By the way, food is very good!

After a 3.5 hour flight home from Marrakech (which for the whole week we didn't get sick at all) we had a 3 hour drive home(stuck in traffic)we decided to stop on the way to pick up some food after an already long day.Normally the Haka is great but on this occasion both my self and my other half were violently sick after eating. I wouldn't take the chance and avoid this place. I won't be getting a take away from here again.

Very quick and tasty, exactly what you want from a chinese take-away! Can recommend the sweet and sour chicke, chicken and cashews and crispy duck pancakes.
