Popped over for lunch. Their trout was very nice. Great combanation of vegies. I gave 4 stars because I think it would've been better if they served roasted potatoes with the dish instead of sweet potato fries. Other than that it was very good. Loved the cosy atmosphere.

After a two night stay at The Hafod in early January, I checked out of the hotel already planning a return. From beginning to end, the staff were polite and courteous, the room was well presented, clean and with great views. The food was good, pub-grub rather than anything fancy. Evening dining is within the bar and is shared with non-residents. It can get quite boisterous and busy on weekends, leaving the small team of staff struggling at times, but they were still always polite and attentive. It would be nice if there was a residents only dining space, perhaps this is the case during high-season. Overall, a very pleasant stay and I will definitely return in the future.

We have been in this village last 3 days. We had drink on this pub Thursday and Friday night and for our last night we decided to have dinner here as well. We ordered cheese platter (you can’t get anything wrong with cheese from packet) and beef & pork meatballs- which for some reason had tumeric/ cumin seasoning in. Very overpowered by the tomato sauce. Which is very unusual for Italian dish. I had the burger. The cheddar - bear in mind £2 per slice extra - wasn’t even melt on meat. Meat was very dry, bun wasn’t toasted. Someone just send it without minimum effort with charging high end prices . The cherry on cake was my husband’s steak. Good lord help. He ordered it medium - rare . The steak looked like it’s been slapped on stone cold solid top- pan. (Definitely not grill ) , no seared at all . When young member of staff came to double check if everything is ok (bless him , he was trying the best) , my husband asked for the senior staff (lovely lady) behind the bar. I believe he explained her we are not happy. Once she came , my husband explained what was wrong with it. She apologised and took it back very professionally. Thank you for that. After few minutes she came back and basically said their chef refused to make another steak and my husband should choose something else from menu. Unfortunately after 23 years working as chef and still working as head chef in high end restaurant that was the most unprofessional and RUDE answer we both ever came a cross (I work in hospitality as well). However we still paid service charge as we did very much enjoyed drinks there every night we stayed. Perhaps more training needed in the kitchen.

Can’t fault our experience at the Haford at all. It’s was our first time here and we will definitely be back. We booked a Sunday lunch after having a morning walk at the Hafod estate. The staff we very friendly, and the food was amazing! Literally the best Sunday roast we have had anywhere. We both had the beef brisket which was melt in your mouth! Cooked perfectly. Plenty on the plate, we certainly didn’t go away feeling hungry! Nice relaxed atmosphere aswell. I’m surprised to see reviews saying the food it expensive for what it is? We found it completely the opposite! Very happy with our visit, thank you Haford. We look forward to returning. Laura & Leigh Cooper.

Certainly this place has an advantage as being the only nearby restaurant to tourist spot Devil’s Bridge. The service is super friendly and caring, we had three different workers look after us during our lunch stop. Unfortunately we can’t say the food was as nice as the service - in addition to being overpriced, the portions are quite modest. We all felt hungry after our meal and (regrettably) then forked out more dough on dessert. Dear friends - lower your prices, increase your portion size, but keep your adorable and lovely staff!

We visited here after travelling through the lovely Elan Valley on our way to Aberystwyth. The outside is smart and there is a seating area opposite. I ordered 2 latte coffees and nearly fell on the floor when I was charged £9.50 for what turned out to be at best lukewarm drinks. The person before me had 2 pints of beer and that also cost £9.50 so to be charged the same price for two coffees was nothing short of highway robbery. We certainly won’t be calling in here again when we next visit the area. Very expensive for a disappointing drink.

The location of this hotel come restaraunt is great, but the service is probbaly some of the worst I have ever experienced. A table of french tourists beiind us had just complained it had taken almost 40 minuest to get a drink on a non-busy day, and from what we experiened, this wasn't out of the norm. The fact that the French contingent were actually staying at the hotel was even more surprising. They said they sat down at 7.30pm (4 of them) and they finaly asked for thier bill, forgoing thier desserts, at 9.30pm. Wow.if you want a good meal, served in a timely manner, or just drinks for that matter, this isn't the place for you. For what it's worth, following a quick delivery of par standard food, our drinks and desserts remained undelivered, despite 3 or 4 reminders to various members of staff. A disgruntled employee then advised us that the owner didn't really care about customer service as, and I quote, "Most peopple are tourists, passion through, who we'll never see again".I explained that I thought it was poor, and another employee stated 'You try working here mate', to which I replied 'I wouldn't' to which he replied - 'I wish I didn't!'.That about sums the place up. Good luck.

Wanted to stop by this place for a drink after seeing the bridges and waterfalls, they had some seating outdoors but apparently this was only for people who wanted to eat. If you just wanted a drink you could sit on the wall, this was fine, I went to the outdoor serving point and asked the woman if it was okay to order some drinks and that we would sit on the wall.... she sighed but got out her pen and paper, I asked for a latte and a cold drink to be told ‘no, it’s cold drinks only, we don’t have time for that!’ - I was surprised by her rudeness and abruptness and left without ordering anything. It didn’t seem overly busy and there was no need for her rudeness

Me and my partner has been for a lovely walk around the Hafod estate with our dog, we decided to call here for food. On arrival a blonde (older) woman asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, we decided to sit outside because of the dog. She told us go and sit on any table and she will be over with some menus. (She didnt clean any table before we sat down with disinfectant) we waited over an hour to get some menus or even an order for a drink. With no luck my partner went up to find out how long until someone comes over. The woman who initially told us to sit down seen my partner and walked the other way. We then decided to leave. When back at the car i phoned the restraunt and told some young man what happened and his response to me was "sorry no table service for outside eaters" ((which i think is crazy consider all other establishments encourage table service with the covid situation) when i told him what the woman had said about sitting down and coming over, he hung up on me. This is a real shame as im sure food would have been lovely had someone bothered to actually bring us a menu.

Booked a table for 4 during the eat out to help out scheme. When we arrive there was no record of our booking, but tables were available so were fairly quickly seated. 20 minutes later we were still waiting for menus, so asked a passing staff member who gave us menus which she had just collected from another table with no attempt to clean them. The food took a further hour after ordering to arrive, the couple who arrived with us had already finished their main course by then, as had another couple who arrived after us. We decided against deserts because of the lengthy waits, for all courses. The family next to use waited over 30 minutes for starters to arrive - olives & bread, and the couple that arrived with us waited over 30 minutes for their deserts. We have had family members who have worked at the hotel and had similar experiences with poor planning and communication of shifts. slow service was also experienced on a previous visit when there were only a handful of customers to deal with, do I think this is par for the hotel. Food was generally fine when it arrived, although I ordered the local ystywth lamb which I cook at home and is melt in the mouth, but was overcooked and chewy here. it isn't a place for a quick meal. Y ffarmers at Llanfihangel remains my recommended alternative for visitors to the area.

Made the trip to Devils Bridge, as it was lunch time we decided to try our luck and get a snack, we hadn’t booked but luckily a very polite young man (sadly didn’t get his name) found us a table and we ordered some tea and sandwiches. The tea arrived minus sugar and milk but the young man who brought the tea said he’d get us some. Our food arrived but no milk and sugar so the young lady got us what we needed.I had the Posh Fish Finger which was 3 Haddock goujons on ciabatta served with salad and coleslaw and also chips. Other half had the BLTC minus the C but with all the trimmings. We were stuffed but really enjoyed our food. The same young man who found us a table took our payment and was again very polite and friendly. The only let down was the decor and the loos, clean but sadly in need of DIY, decorating and some TLC.I’m sure we’ve not been the only people who made the visit after watching Hinterland so I’m surprised that the interior of the building looked quite shabby.Hope to visit again when the train is running and would definitely call in again.

The owner/manager Nicol Gwynne showed racial bias, was aggressive, confrontational and not open to any feedback about the poor quality of food that is being served at their restaurant. Or any kind of feedback for that matter, She has responded to our complaint in person by barking in our face and storming off. And she has now responded to our detailed written complaint as "Sorry but we don't accept your complaint and please do not contact us any further". This response is very consistent with the level of customer service received from Nicol. DO NOT visit this place. If you are unlucky enough to find yourself there, you had better hope that you do not encounter any issues as the hotel will NOT be willing to assist. Please also note that the hotel is currently a building site. They will not inform you of this when you book. Nicol the owner treated me like a second-class citizen because of the colour of my skin when I advised her that the food was of poor quality. She didn't offer any replacement. She left me waiting for half an hour and then came back to say that the kitchen was closed. She left me to go hungry for the evening (for a meal that I had paid for in the booking cost), without even offering me a slice of toast. When I asked her if she would have treated me like this if I were a white male, she told me that I was "pathetic". Judging by other reviews, Nicol may have been kinder to other guests, hence proving my point about blatant discrimination. They are also taking ZERO precautions for Covid - We were given a leaflet upon check in telling us that face masks and other precautions are optional?!? They clearly do not care about their customers or staff. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

ive been to this restaurant many times and some of the reviews have shocked me as I can't believe they are taking about the same place, but everyone is entitled to their opinion so here is mine. The setting is amazing and the views are amazing regardless of the time of year. In fact Autumn is, well, wow. The restaurant has a wonderful relaxed vibe, log burner in one corner, shabby chic sofas, and dining tables and chairs in plain wooden style. If you want contemporary, you will be disappointed. It's got a unique vintage vibe, stylish without trying. The food is good, not amazing but good. I recommend the beetroot gnocchi. Portions are generous and it's reasonable. I think it is fair to say they've had some chaotic moments especially in the eat out to help out scheme this month but I think given the strain these places have been under, chill out. As for Covid 19, I have never felt unsafe there and the sanitiser is at the entrance. You go in to pay the bill and the tables are sell spaced. All round I recommend. If you only go for the views, you wont have wasted your money

We went for late lunch on a rainy Monday afternoon. It was very busy, and the undercover outdoor tables were all full, with no apparent effort to allow distancing between them - the tables themselves were little more than 2 metres apart. The people at the next tables were within 3 feet of us on both sides. The wait staff constantly came and went within a few feet, and in and out between guests at each table, with no evidence of any effort of social distancing. There were no masks or gloves in sight. Everyone going in and out passed within a foot of the people at the tables either side of the door. One waiter came and took the salt from our table and gave it directly to another table without wiping it off. There was a notice at our table about COVID19 measures that had fingermarks all over it, and clearly had not been wiped down when the table was changed over. It said we should scan it with our smart phone or go online to register our presence for Track & Trace, but no effort was made to ensure that we did this. Since I do not have a smart phone (no point if one lives in a place with no mobile signal) I could do neither, and they did not make any effort to check, nor did they take info when they took the reservation or seated us. As a result, should the people who sat at the table 3 feet away from us fall ill, there will be no way for us to find out. When I spoke to the manager she was very defensive and said "We’re doing the best we can.". It did not appear to me that they were doing anything at all outside of the usual pre-COVID hygiene practices. Although the food was excellent - really exceptional, actually - and it was lovely to have the "Eat Out - Help Out" discount - I will not be going back anytime soon.

Coming out of lockdown. Perhaps things will improve. Waited over an hour for food with no warning. Explained as several tables ordering simultaneously, a backlog in the kitchen, and a 'technical issue'. Food was generally good but soup was cold, beans were replaced with peas, kids who asked for no salad dressing or coleslaw were given coleslaw on the salad, and two drinks never came. We still enjoyed the meals once there. Staff were not physically distancing with customers or each other, were unmasked and ungloved. Tables were sometimes disinfected between customers, sometimes not, and items such as salt cellars were passed between different tables by the staff. If I were high risk, I would feel uncomfortable. It wouldn't stop me going in future but I'd have a good chat with the staff before ordering! On the plus side, they're currently doing Eat Out To Help Out giving big discounts!!

After a walk around the waterfall we stopped for a well deserved coffee and welsh cakes which were lovely.... It also offered Sunday roast which looked good and we would have had if we hadn’t eaten... A good restaurant that wasn’t busy but off the beaten track... worth a visit..

We used the Hafod hotel to provide refreshments following our mother's funeral at Cwmystwyth. The service they provided and the quality of the food was astounding. From the moment we first contacted the hotel to meeting at the location the day before the event we felt that we were really well looked after. The food and service on the day itself were fantastic and the young man in charge, Iolo, could not have been more helpful. Although we did not stay at the hotel on this occasion , we will definitely stay here in the future. The refurbishment programme which the owners are undertaking is making the whole property into a beautiful modern hotel, having been able to see some of the rooms available, we cannot wait to visit and stay at the hotel.

As this is the only establishment of this type in Devils Falls they have a captive audience and can charge what they like, my large soft dinks were £1-50 each more than an identical drink in Aberystwyth which was rather extreme to say the least. They were very busy serving Sunday lunch to mainly people that had drove there and showed very little interest to anyone that just wanted a drink.Overall the outside is very run down and the whole place looked in desperate need of a refurbishment but clearly this would cost a fortune.I won’t be returning even if I was in Devils Falls again.

I ordered the creamy salmon and courgette pasta and the pasta was very undercooked and too thick. Tiny bits of salmon and courgette in it. I had to leave most of it and I'm the type of person that doesn't like to leave food. It was just over £13 for my meal and I was dissappointed and I won't be rushing back.

This is a great place to have a well deserved drink & some food once you have completed the Rugged waterfall climb. It’s also only a few minutes walk from the Vale of Rheidol Railway. Food & service is very good & plenty of outside sitting area.

The food here is good. We stayed down the road and dined here a couple of times. My wife was happy as they had multiple options for vegetarians. The bar also offered some nice ales. It is a perfect stop if you walk the devil falls valley walk as the exit is across the road.

Me and my family stopped here for lunch after we visited Devils Bridge, the menu was ok with gluten free options. I ordered the gluten free burger, which came with chips, salad and onion rings. I was looking forward to my lunch because not many places have gluten free burgers, let alone onion rings! I received my lunch, checked that the onion rings were gluten free, was told they were so I tucked into them. The waitress went away then hurried back to tell me that the onion rings were NOT gluten free having already ate half of one. 'Would you like gluten free onion rings instead' she said! Omg, if I order a gluten free meal, then i would assume the rest of the food would also be gluten free. Anyway the place began to get busy, as it's in an ideal spot. The rest of the hotel needs updating especially the toilets.

After a days trekking in the beautiful Welsh countryside were both hungry , there being a shortage of restaurants in Devils Bridge we decided y the Hafod. What a great choice, the food was cooked to order and served piping hot by a very pleasant and helpful member of staff. Not only was the food well presented but the size of the portions was enormous plus it tasted great and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Highly recommended.

My partner and I came here after completing the Devil’s Falls walk. We had the most beautiful view of the forest sat outside, and the restaurant was literally right next to the exit of the walk. Food was reasonably priced and incredibly good value for money - we both said how much we enjoyed our meals. There aren’t many restaurants around Devil’s Bridge unless you go into Aberystwyth, so I would absolutely recommend this place for a lovely meal out!

Mostly about the atmosphere, you’d think, but in fact, worth a visit simply because of the food! We stayed two nights at the hotel, hence, dinner in the restaurant twice. Had trout the first night, truly perfect, and then for the second, decided to try something local and traditional, lamb pie. Tutned out to be an even bigger positivexsurprise than the trout: when I order something traditional, I don’t want any re-creations in modern style, but the real thing. That’s what I got, and it was excellent! The wine selection is not huge, the white Pinot Grigio we had with the fish was ok, no more, but the second night, ordered a Malbec, didn’t expect much, but was surprised! Very good! Add to all of this the good service we had, and the concept will be hard to match!

We made the mistake of thinking this is somewhere rather posh you had to dress up for (see their website). Oh dear - how wrong could we be! We didn't have the posh seating - just wooden tables and chairs in side room - they weren't using the "psh" room.

Booked a Sunday roast dinner here for 4 adults and a baby. Three of us ordered the beef dinner and one of us ordered the grilled vegetable and halloumi baguette. All four of us walked away delighted with our meal. The beef was mouth watering. So tender and just fell apart when you cut into it. They were very accommodating for my one year old child as they were happy enough to warm up his meal that we'd already prepared. They were also happy for us to change our order slightly (we had to add the pigs in blanket to our meals!). Portions were of a good size with plenty of veg and potatoes to go with our meals. The grilled vegetable and halloumi baguette was lovely and they came with a nice portion of homemade chips. Lovely little venue up in the Rheidol valley.
