Came here today with my friend as we liked the look of the small menu - always a good sign that they know what they're on about! We arrived at 2pm on the dot when the restaurant was just opening up, so we were the first people there. It took some time for our food to arrive, but when it did we were very pleased with it. My friend ordered kitfo and I ordered a lamb whose name escapes me but it tasted incredible. We couldn't quite manage all the injera that came with the meat, there was a lot of it, but we came away very happy and having not blown a hole in our wallets. 10/10 would go again.

We were so lucky to come across this place! Most delicious food, family atmosphere, great chilled vibe. It's on the first floor, up spiral staircase, not most obvious entrance, which makes it even more special !!

What a fabulous place this is. Before talking about the food, i would like to appreciate the staff, so smily and cheerful. Nebew was such a fun host and server. The food is outstanding. This was the first time we tried Ethiopian Cuisine. We tried the Wot which is a medium spicy stew which is slightly thick cooked with meat. Doro Wot is tender chicken slow cooked with onion, garlic, ginger, spices and herbal butter served with a boiled egg. Shiro - Powdered chickpeas cooked with onion, garlic and ginger, mildly spiced Beyaynetu is a traditional national dish served with various components - Yetsom Beyaynetu is spicy red lentils, yellow split peas, cabbage and carrots, shiro and house salad. The Injera is a flatbread similar to a pancake which is made from teff flour and is served with all the dishes. The total bill for 6 people was £60 including 5 Ethiopian Beers and food. I decided to try out Ethiopian food with a friend. We both ordered the lamb dish. It arrived promptly. The owner taught us how to eat the dishes. We were in awe as it was very flavourful.

Very tasty and reasonable price, we paid about £68 for 5 people, which was 5 main dishes, 3 Ethiopian beers, 2 soft drinks. It’s essentially a bowl of stew, with some soft bread (like a sour savoury pancake)that you dip in and eat it with…we had lamb, chicken & mixed vegetarian option. We went in the evening- the restaurant area is upstairs via a spiral staircase and from the outside it’s not immediately apparent that anyone is in..but they are! Service was very friendly and all the meals explained, as we were Ethiopian food novices.

They sell very good Injeras if you want just the injeras, food at the restaurant is great too. I tried key tibs and it was good. I highly recommend this place.

Went in for early dinner on my own, wanted to try something new and being inspired by the Simpsons I thought I'd give Ethiopian food a try. Really weird location, above a kebab shop in the gay village. Decor was nice inside, clean, service was friendly but a little slow given how few people were inside, prices were amazing however. Ethiopian beer was cheap and good, and the food was only £11. Ordered one thing and couldn't even finish it. Loads of lamb in my stew, I have my reservations ordering lamb because usually places tend to skimp on portions but not here. The bread thing served with every meal was nice too, a strange but not unpleasant sour taste. I would come here again. The stew was delicious.

Absolutely beautiful food. Ive been here now three times and each time the meal has been absolutely perfect. Really friendly waiter served us and was happy to make recommendations to my partner who hadnt been. Also incredibly reasonable. Will definitely be back

Amazing authentic food. Small choice on menu but it is all about the quality. Restaurant owner very friendly and helpful. Watch through hard to find. Shop almost looks closed! So check door and go up the spiral stairs. Didn't see a lift so if you can't do stairs this will be a problem. Still very good. Reasonable pricing. Definitely recommended.

I discovered Ethiopian cuisine in this restaurant and I was won over! It is a place very well rated on the internet and I confirm that it deserves it. The service was impeccable and informative. It is an address that I keep to come back.

If you are seeking tasty authentic food, then this is exactly what to expect. I eat out at almost every level of restaurant, this possibly one of the best meals and service for a long while. Each choose something different, enjoy sharing with copious tasty pancake bread. Wonderful.

It's a little hidden (upstairs on a corner and signage not the best) but when you do find it, it's some of the best Ethiopian food I've had in years. Super friendly staff as well

Visited lastnight, chuffed to eat cheap yet great food. Shame the portions were small but the traditional sour flatbread filled me up enough at the time. Each meal was about £11 minimum and cheap bottled beer at around £3.25. Lovely atmosphere seems very authentic and the staff were super friendly and polite, a tip well deserved. Only thing is finding the place was confusing but it’s on the corner and you’ve to go into the fast food place below then follow the spiral stairs up and you’ll have landed yourself in the habesha restaurant :) the lamb was lovely and tender. Open late as well (11pm)!

The service was very nice and friendly, we arrived when the restaurant was half empty, we waited half an hour for food. We had beef and chicken with their traditional pancake. I have to praise the chicken which was made tasty and interestingly seasoned. On the other hand, I did not like the beef at all, the meat itself was of poorer quality and it was seasoned with very different spices for my taste.

Popped by for a quick dinner and was not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and I had the spicy lamb stew with traditional Ethiopian bread which was lovely. Also tried the Ethiopian beer which was nice light lager. Very much recommend if you’re looking for a different choice!

Never tried Ethiopian food before. So pleased we went. 4 of us tried a different plate each. Spicy beef Berber lamb Chicken Veggies All served on a sour bread in a great atmosphere with the best smiley service ever. Brilliant.

A warm welcome! The food and serving was explained and delivered to our table along with Ethiopian lager. the injera was unlike anything I've tried before. The meal was terrific, and we'll be back.

I went to this place with a friend. The food was very nice but the menu is very limited. We got 2 meat dishes and a veggie dish. Staff were helpful in explaining the menu. The only issue was it was a lot of bread (I don't eat much bread in general). In addition due to limited menu it's not somewhere you could keep going to. This is real value for money. The entrance was difficult to find also.

Das Restaurant ist etwas schwer zu finden, da es von außen nur durch ein kleines Schild gekennzeichnet ist. Man geht in einem Imbiss, von dort über eine Treppe in das erste Geschoss und dort ist das Restaurant. Es hat nur wenige Tische und ist eher spärlich eingerichtet. Der Kellner war äußerst freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Essen ist - zumindest soweit ich das beurteilen kann - sehr authentisch und lecker, gut gewürzt. Die Preise sind angemessen.

Il ragazzo che ci ha servito è stato gentilissimo e ci ha spiegato i piatti e come mangiare. Dovessi mai tornare da quelle parti, sicuramente tornerei anche qui.

Hands down my favorite Ethiopian Restaurant and I've had my fair share as a travel blogger for Girltakesmundo.com. The veggie platter is my go-to and highly recommend for even the meat eaters. The waiter is always the same as this establishment is family run and I've never seen him not smiling. (Probably the slimiest person I know in Manchester.) Price is affordable, in the great location in Manchester and family run. What more could you ask for!

A simple but very filling and hearty menu, the service is very friendly and the novelty of Ethiopian beer alone is well worth the visit. Very fairly priced.

Friendly service. The entrance is upstairs and it is easy to miss. A fast food place downstairs was shut but a separate entrance with stairs goes up. It was not very busy on a Monday night. I am am not familiar with Ethiopian restaurants in Manchester. London has good options. This was reasonable priced but less options than other Ethiopian restaurants I have visited. Awake tibs was a lot of sauce less meat than some places I have been to.I would go back if the area still.

I had lunch at Habesha restaurant with a group of friends and it was a great experience. We were attended to by a nice waiter that was always smiling, we tried the Ethiopian dishes and it was awesome. The ambience and african decorations was also beautiful.

This place has always been a favourite of mine. Been coming here for over 15 years and the quality of the food and atmosphere has been continuously great. It might not look much from the outside but once you are in the restaurant the staff are fantastic, very friendly and providing great service. Food is authentic and delicious. Very filling and great value for money. Highly recommended.

Working away so always trying to find good food on a budget. Never tried Ethiopian food so went for it, Wow, great atmosphere, service extremely friendly, helpful and the food was sensational! I think I have found my new favourite bread… great tasting beer to washing it all down, I will most definitely return to this place!

I’ve been coming here on a monthly basis for the last seven years, the food is fresh, delicious, and the host is one of the kindest you’ll meet.

What a great dinner we had there! We loved discover the Ethiopian cuisine cooked and served by a lovely staff always smiling and looking for making you feel good. All the dishes were tasty (but spicy 😉). Fully recommended if you want to travel 🌶️🍲

We decided to book Habesha after reading Giles Coren’s rave review of the restaurant in The Times. It is a very small restaurant up a spiral staircase, accessed through a disused kebab shop. We were looked after by one person who was incredibly polite and helpful. There are not many meal options, which helped us pick 4 dishes to share comfortable amongst 6 of us, plus several plates and baskets of injera, the Ethiopian fermented pancake. It was a novel experience scooping up the food with torn pieces of pancake (spoons are provided) and the beef, lamb, chicken and lentil dishes we ordered were excellent. The chicken in the thick, rich gravy I think was the group’s favourite, but I also really loved the lentil curry which came with pickles and a salad, as well as the cubed lamb. Very delicious, and ridiculously good value - £65 for 6 of us.

Very interesting concept of Ethiopian cuisine. Food very very spicey, so be ready for that. Veggie supplements amazing. Staff very friendly. Space could be better designed. 15 punds per person with drinks so very good value. No desserts sadly.

Attention ! Restaurant au premier étage. Le lieu est super sympa, sans prise de tête, le serveur est d'une extrème gentillesse et les plats sont rarement trouvables en restautation. C'est vraiment bon, original et pas cher. Il y a peu de choix mais c'est souvent signe de bonne qualité. Un bon rapport qualité-prix !

It is certainly different! If you don't like spicy food, perhaps that's not the place for you. The dishes seem to be rather hot. Mine was. It came with a massive pancake. It's nice enough really. The service is brilliant. Good value. How authentic? I don't know. I have not been to Ethiopia!

We came here with a group of friends, and we were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere which was very chilled. We ordered a sample of each meat and shared the board. The chicken was the nicest ! It was a very different experience, but was very nice. Very friendly waiter and good wine. Would recommend and would come back!

Great Ethiopian restaurant in the heart of Manchester. Bit hard to find as the entrance looks like it goes into a takeaway, but there are separate stairs going to the restaurant. Wasn't too busy when we arrived so getting a table for 2 was quick. The restaurant isn't huge though so if you're planning to come in a large group or at peak times it might be worth calling to book. We ordered the yetsom beyaynetu which was a mixed platter of veggie dishes served on injera. All of it was absolutely delicious, I wish we had more for how much injera we were given! We also ordered the yebeg wot, a mildly spicy and saucy lamb dish (also served with injera) which was tasty. Service was ok, a bit slow when it got busier as a very large group came but the staff are very nice. Good prices considering the amount of food given too.

Amazing service + delicious food. Had the slow cooked lamb and it was fantastic. Proves that a simple menu goes a long way! Cheap prices for the amount as well - it might not look huge but it is a filling portion for sure. Felt cared for by staff.

A very rare cuisine “Ethiopian” place with traditional stretchy bread and spicy lamb curry, wasn’t savory but very eclectic dish. The chef was sweet and very courteous, it was nice to see the depiction of cultural life in Ethiopia exhibited through the food, wall murals and baked coffee beans 🫘 originally from Ethiopia, value for money meal!!

My first ever Ethiopian cuisine experience and what can I say, it's delicious. The taste is somewhat similar to the Indian cuisine. Every dish will be served with a thin and large base layer of sour tasting pan cake kind of a thing. On top of this few curries are places. You can have to eat the curries with the dosa with hand and this is the part I liked the most. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We tried a vegetarian dish and it tastes good. The menu is limited and every dish is famous here as I saw in other reviews. I want to try other dishes here if possible, let's see.

I had read the reviews and was looking forward for a flavourful experience. I ordered the non spicy lamb and white rice. Literally the most boring lamb I’ve ever tasted. It wasn’t tender nor was it chewy. Not spicy, not seasoned. Plain boring
