Guru Tandoori in Barnet

A return visit for an informal evening meal out with family, Indian food decided upon. Recently redecorated, comfortable and clean. A warm welcome and very good service. I had to ask what some of the dishes were and the staff were very happy to explain and help with menu decisions. A good menu with lots to choose from. Very reasonably priced. The dishes sizes are just right, delicious and flavoursome. We had a range of courses from a bhuna to a byriani with different rices and tarka dal. We had a very happy evening and all very satisfied, we will certainly return. ( We noticed that Guru do a Sunday buffet lunch at an extremely reasonable price, a good reason to return)

The food was good but portions very small. Spent over £40.00 but not a free papadum!! Arena Club will be my favourite!! Great portions and great tasting food! And complimentary papadums!!

I have dined and reviewed here previously. I was back on a Friday evening with my beautiful young wife, our daughter and her boyfriend. Guru Tandoori is still great with tasty food, good service and reasonable prices. Thank you very much, guys! See you soon!

Took my wife and Daughter to this peaceful restaurant. Enjoyed their meal as we where pleased with the warmth customer service received by the staffs there and saw my little girl really happy. Nice place and we highly recommend .

Our go-to restaurant to dine in and home delivery. Well it was until last Sunday's delivery. Papadams tasted gross, like they were cooked in old oil that should have been thrown away. My usual Veg Biriyani tasted cheap mix of spices. My friends meals were just as bad. Sadly will not risk ordering from them again.

6 of us dined here on a Saturday evening. The decor was very nice and everything was clean and tidy. The menu is extensive with options to suit all tastes and dietary requirements. Service was efficient, helpful and friendly. I would certainly return and would recommend highly.

Excellent restaurant avec une musique ambiante sympa et un personnel souriant et qui se montre prêt à toutes nos questions ! Les repas sont très copieux et les prix sont très raisonnables. Nous avons pris un chicken tikka biryani, un butter chicke’ (chicken makani sur la carte), 1 keema naan (de l’agneau épicé à l’intérieur), 1 onion kulcha naan. Si vous passez par Finchley, c’est une adresse à ne pas manquer !

Sunday buffet excellent wide choice all freshly cooked and always topped up with freshly cooked food Went there for a family meal early tonight excellent service the food was excellent we had a selection of Tandori and curry dishes the lamb dishes were beautiful. I moved to East Finchley two years ago and tried a lot of the local Indian restaurants, it's my favourite food, before trying Guru Tandoori which is on the end of my road (it's a long road, took a while to discover it!). They have done a nice refurb, but I haven't eaten in only ordered takeaways. The food is always excellent, a new chef joined last year I believe.

I have been to so many Curry Houses But none can compare to the one We ate in last week. Soon as we walked in we were greeted by the assistant manager Jakir, who immediately made us feel at home and had us seated within Minutes. You could sense that we were going to Have the Curry of the century! I was right...the Starter 'LambTikka' Was so tender and delicious that you Could bet that the Main and all the sides we ordered Were going to be exceptional...believe me they Were outstanding!! Every mouthful we'd comment To how delicious everything tasted. It was like the first curry that we'd ever had in Our lives. After we finished I asked if we could see the Chef to congratulate him on these masterclass dishes! If you're ever going through Finchley Central and You want to eat food that will make you smile Then you've just got try The Guru Tandouri! I can't wait to go there again! Bangladesh's finest! 🙏😊

I have a problem with all Indian takeaways in the Barnet / Finchley area, it seems they have lost the art of cooking a curry. Last night I tried the recommended Guru in Long lane and received two meat curries that were no more than...

Lovely food good quality dishes, especially the mains. Large portions for price paid. Nice to see abdul back from mango excellent service given, highly recommend. In addition i think all hospitality/ resturant staff front & kitchen should wear masks!!! due to current climate.

Ordered on Friday eve, food was a bit bland than usual. Chef could have put more flavour in it. Chicken tikka Masala was too watery. I think when the celebrity cheff comes next month food will get much better than this. Currently refurb so again...

I ordered the food home as they are currently going under refurbishment, which will be nice to visit and eat in once it’s done. The tikka masala was delicious, biryani was fresh and tandoori was very juicy and flavourful. Will order again soon.

Currently place is getting refurbed but have been getting my food delivered. Has been very convenient in these times while working from home. Quality food for reasonable price. Look forward to dining in soon again.

Shocking place. Stroppy waiter who clearly had no interest in his job. He tried to give me a USED pickle tray from a nearby table. Food was lukewarm and overpriced.Disgusting place, never again.

A really lovely and friendly restaurant with great food. Highly recommend the fish curry madras. Food was excellent and really reasonable. There is also a buffet on Sundays although we ordered off money. It is cosy with great service. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you!

3 of us went in for curry having reserved a table. The restaurant was half full. Told the waiters that our 4th and final friend would be joining us shortly as he was stuck in traffic. We ordered large beers and papadums to enjoy whilst we waited.During the 15mins we waited for our friend the waiters repeatedly asked was he still coming, 5times which was very irritating. They did not make us feel welcome despite the fact we had ordered some bits and the restaurant was not full.When the final member of the group we enjoyed starters, curries and sides. The food was well prepared and presented.Unfortunately the service lets this place down. A smile and friendly demenour would go a long way in this place as the food is nice. The decor is not particularly impressive but cannot complain at the price point.I would not be in a hurry to go back. Giving a 3* rating, could have been a 4 if we had been made to feel welcome and waiters did not pester.

Traditionally excellent for all your usual favorites. Pasandars and biryanis were particularly enjoyed. Sunday lunch buffet is worth a visit too.

Really enjoyed the food and the staff were attentive at all times. Had a variety of dishes and all were delicious. The service was also first class, second visit and I will definitely return again.

I have been using this restaurant for many years and have been meaning to write a review for some time now.

Desafortunadamente, tengo que hacerme eco de lo que algunos de los otros críticos han dicho sobre el servicio. Éramos un grupo de tres (incluido un niño), lo que siempre parece ponernos en desventaja, ya que se nos considera menos rentables por la cantidad de espacio en la mesa que ocupamos (de hecho, esto no es cierto, ya que tendemos a ordenar Platos caros y vino, pero de todos modos ...). Nos ubicaron justo al lado de la puerta, junto a una fiesta muy grande y concurrida (prácticamente los otros comensales en el restaurante). Cuando cuestionamos esto, el camarero respondió que todas las demás mesas estaban reservadas. No hace falta decir que, a medida que avanzaba la noche, esto resultó no ser cierto. Así que nos sentamos en el frío, sin poder oírnos hablar, y con mi silla siendo golpeada continuamente cuando la gente entraba y salía del restaurante. A pesar de la comida muy sabrosa, especialmente de los platos de verduras, la comida se arruinó para nosotros (más porque nos mintieron en lugar de la desagradable experiencia culinaria). La sala también podría beneficiarse de una decoración más animada (las paredes están casi completamente vacías y la pintura necesita ser retocada) y, como han dicho otros, el camarero no estaba interesado en tomar nuestra orden y estaba constantemente mirando la cocina y la mesa más grande (de hecho, tuve que repetirme varias veces mientras ordenaba). No hace falta decir que no volveremos. Sin embargo, principalmente dejo esta revisión con la esperanza de que pueda llevar a algún cambio. Very much better than most in north London, very fresh, a little different in taste to everyone else’s , always hits the spot .

Excellent food, service and value for money. Well done. My daughter is vegetarian and there was plenty for her too. The only improvement I would suggest would be some labels on the buffet, so customers know what is in each.

Nuestra fiesta disfrutó de delicias vegetarianas del amplio menú. Thali vegetariano (una variedad de platos en pequeños platos de degustación en una bandeja a juego) era atractivo, sabroso y abundante. Naans esponjosos y frescos horneados a pedido. Precio del café muy razonable. Servicio un poco lento. Sin duda volveremos!

He estado yendo aquí por más de 30 años. Durante todo ese tiempo la comida siempre ha sido excelente, el personal amable. ¡No he encontrado una comida india de mejor sabor ni comida para llevar en todo este tiempo! Definitivamente lo recomendaría por ser confiablemente bueno y los precios también son buenos. En cuanto al buffet del domingo, también es excelente para una excelente variedad de comida. Un sí definitivo.

Good food at reasonable prices and good service.

Ha sido un regular aquí por un par de años, tanto como comer y llevar. Cenar en es mejor pero no tenía una mala comida hasta la fecha. A menudo toman la familia y amigos cuando están de visita y en general todos estamos de acuerdo que te dan buena comida y excelente relación calidad-precio. La retención del personal es buena, lo que dice mucho acerca de un restaurante el servicio es siempre amable.

Verdaderamente increíble comida era deliciosa el mejor indio con diferencia su tikka biriyani es para morirse tan bien siempre está muy ocupado, así que tienes que reservar con antelación a veces el servicio es genial, nuestro camarero mr zaman era muy amable y muy amable, así como los demás es un pequeño y acogedor restaurante finchley mejor estoy seguro de que volveré y pedir ese biriyani yum!

The food came quickly but there was no charm or friendliness at all. When it came it was disappointing, thick sauces with an overemphasis on tomato, poor spicing, and some very strange textures. Would not go back.

Our first experience was take away and we were delighted with the food so we decided to visit the place. The food is really delicious, we have got some starters and for mains korma, masala and biryiani. Service was ok. We have been pleased.

Nuestra visita (Reservado) era lo admito en la concurrida noche del viernes antes de navidad, pero nuestra mesa era para 7. No 30 y nuestro pedido fue tomado por una hora. Hay algo muy desorganizado sobre el personal esperando. Cuando llegó la comida era encantador. Vegetales, trucha birianies tandoori y vegetarianos eran todos disfrutamos thali mi grupo y el recién horneado naans son excelentes.

Buena comida. Limpio. Servicio razonablemente rápido. La comida se mucho más rápida que nos hubiera gustado ya que los platos eran sólo tibio y no caliente. No parecía el camarero entendían inglés bien y podría haber tenido un recibimiento más cálido. Mesa parecía ser pequeño para cuatro personas y poppadoms tuvimos que colocarlas en la mesa de al lado.

Good basic Indian food at reasonable prices

Probablemente debería haber leído las otras críticas antes de mi visita ya que puede identificarse con un montón de ellos. El servicio era bastante malo - cuando entramos sólo señaló a una mesa libre en vez de darnos la bienvenida. Cuando pedimos que parecía bastante aburridos como que no quería estar allí. Habiendo dicho todo eso, las raciones de comida eran decentes eran los precios, aunque no era la mejor comida india que he probado. Si acaso, me gustaría adherir un para llevar la próxima vez.

GURU fue la mejor comida india que tenía en Londres y el precio es razonable. Sin embargo, los camareros son terribles! Ser grosero con nosotros muchos tiempo y dejándonos en situaciones incómodas cuando lo volvería a hacer algunas bromas revista satírica que no parecen bromas.

Fuimos por primera vez con un amigo para una tranquila cena semana. A pesar de estar casi vacío, los camareros eran lentos y poco servicial.

Awful food!! Not a single staff had smile on their face! We could not wait to pay the bill and come out of the place. Not going back..

We have been eating here for many years and have never had a bad meal. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable with a wide variety on their menu. We both eat there and use the takeaway service and both are great.

My boyfriend and I have just moved into Finchley Central and wanted to find good local restaurants. We went here for dinner on a Friday night. It was extremely busy which for me is a good sign. We were seated and ordered food pretty quickly. I would say if you are really hungry order poppadoms whilst you wait. We also had some starters which were not too much of a wait. It was the main courses that took the longest to arrive. I would say we waited about 45-50 minutes for our main courses to come. When they did arrive they were fantastic. This place cannot be faulted for its food. We have since ordered on deliveroo which was even better and that way you know how long your food will be which was better for us when hungry on a Friday night. Oh and the value for money is excellent, we had 2 curries, 2 rices, 2 side dishes, starters, poppadoms and alcohol for under £40.

Very pleasant staff, although their understanding of English wasn't great..... We ordered a variety of things...I had tandoori chicken, which was rather dry and clung stubbornly to its bones; malua lamb curry, which we sent back as it tasted as if it had been cooked earlier and reheated, bindi and a stuffed paratha.The company was lovely; the staff friendly, but overall very average food.

They have a number of interesting curries that go beyond the standard you usually find in Indian restaurants. Service is very nice, drinks selection a bit limited

I've visited the Guru for a takeaway a few times now. The food is very good. Service is a little slow, in that my order wasn't ready when I arrived at the agreed time, but the staff are very polite and welcoming, so that you can sit and have a quiet, well-chilled beer while you wait. My regular when in Finchley and will remain so.

I've visited on a handful of occasions and the menu is long and varied. Never had a bad meal here. Would recommend.

Visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening and it got quite full very quickly. The tables were a bit too close together and slightly uncomfortable with the customers on the tables either side of us.The food was very good and tasted very nice, good selection and well presented. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The prices were very reasonable and the meal was well worth it. Would definitely go again.

I went along to the Sunday buffet with a group of friends. As soon as I arrived the 3/5 food hygiene certificate on the door sounded a warning and the stained table clothes only confirmed this. The buffet was the worst Indian buffet I have been too, the food was poor, the rice overlooked and the whole thing was served with an air of apathy, with the waiters unfriendly and unhelpful. When I tried to pay they kept changing the price, it was just so unprofessional. I would never go again and I wonder how they stay in business when there is so much competition and all of it is, in my experience, vastly superior to this sad and jaded little restaurant.

I've been to many Indian restaurants around the country and this is by far the best I've been too. The food is absolutely amazing and best service ever. 10/10 for me.

I've found the sides like naans and samosa are VERY poor value for money, very small portions i.e the somasas I got 2 and was thinking my 2 year old niece wouldn't be happy! The service was late and the driver called me up multiple times being unable to find my place so food was late, overly greasy and generally wouldn't use un;ess no other option, quantities poor value and over priced.

We have been going to the Guru for many years. It is reasonably priced and good food. I love the tandoori trout ( I ask them to bone it) and tandoori prawns but all their food is good.
