Gurkhar Corner in Monmouthshire

The food and decor were average at best, but the menu wrongly labels food as gluten free when they’re not! When ordering, the waitress confirmed a few items (including dumplings) were gluten free, as labelled on the menu. When receiving them, thankfully I double checked with another waitress to ask the chef, as they were not actually gluten free. When you have coeliac disease, this could have very serious health complications. The waitress taking the order did not know what gluten was, and when I questioned why the curries weren’t gluten free, she stated they have cream in them (which has nothing to do with gluten). This is terrifying for a food establishment! Please be careful here with allergies. We won’t be returning.

Staying in Gilwern for a birthday weekend getaway and looked for the best takeaway in the area. Gurkha Corner came up and we were not disappointed! We ordered the chicken madras, mushroom rice, potatoes along with kerala curry with egg and mushroom rice with samosas and onion bhajis Wow. Every flavour came through and was not oily at all and tasted like a home cooked meal it was that good! Very high quality The breads were amazing too. Would highly recommend and we are thinking about driving back to Wales again just for this.

WE HAD AN AMAZING TAKE AWAY. 26 MEALS IN TOTAL. ALL CORRECT & HOT, DESPITE A 25 MINUTE JOURNEY BACK TO THE PUB. STAFF WERE GREAT & MOST HELPFUL. WE WILL BE USING THEN AGAIN FOR CERTAIN!

Amazing place! Totally blown away with the portion sizes. The waiters were very helpful with us and anything we needed was not too much for any of them! Will definitely be returning soon and will recommend this place to everyone!

Went for lunch Friday afternoon and it was just beautiful! So fresh and full of flavour!! Have never had Gurkha curry before! It’s definitely our new favourite. We had onion pakoda to start follows by Gurkha lamb curry and rice and chicken chilli with rice! Was so good my husband ordered another lamb curry to take away for tea 🤣

Greeted with a hearty welcome, the atmosphere was immediately warm and kind. I ordered the Saag Masu with chicken and pilau rice - all the flavors and spices were fantastic and the chicken oh so tender!

A really lovely restaurant. Food was amazing. Only negative was waiting time (waited around an hour and 15 between ordering and getting our starters) but the restaurant was really busy, waiting time was made up for with the quality of the meal. Would definitely recommend.

Me and mates had lunch here during our trip to brecon. Had a delicious meal. It fulfilled my spice cravings. The place is neat and tidy. They have wide varieties in thier menu. The food was wonderful and we were very satisfied. There is a also a bar inside. The service was quick and friendly. The food is well pricedNeed to try more from their menu. Would definitely come back and try it. If your visiting here I would definitely recommend anyone to try this place.

Rude staff, over 2 hours waiting for food Staff argued over a meal that was not correctly made, lamb was chewy and unappetising. Will not come here ever again.

Party of 6 we arrived at 7pm our first drinks arrived at 7.35pm,5 out of 6 diners ordered starters 4 of us were served ours the 5th person was then informed that she would not be getting her starter which was very poor service should have been told when it was ordered. We then had a long wait for our main courses it was around 8.40pm when they arrived. Staff were also very slow to serve additional drinks. The positives were that the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellant. It looked like they did not have enough servers and those they had were a little detached from what was happening. Really do not like writing negative reviews however the above description is a very fair account of our visit. The food was very good however they really do need to improve the service...It was a shame because this was our first visit and the service experience would make me think about returning.

Nice food, well cooked and presented at reasonable prices. Makes a change from more usual Indian fare. There are Gurkha specialises (recommended) as well as the usual curries served in Indian restaurants.

Had lunch on New Years Day, was great value and amazing food. Will come back for dinner service.

A bright and immaculate venue with a charming and helpful welcome. There was an accommodating approach, so that other choices were made available aside from the standard lunchtime menu. I chose the nettle curry as it looked unusual - a crisp tasting choice with really lovely tender lamb. Very memorable and absolutely recommended!

This was our (my wife and I) third visit here since 2018. We have always received excellent service and enjoyed fantastic food. Our latest trip was no exception! The service was excellent (as usual) but the food, usually fantastic was beyond belief "divine ". The chef, now resident there, is a master chef! Our meal was off the charts great, making for a really enjoyable evening in this great little town. Pricing is very reasonable for such high quality. Whilst you're there why not try the Gurkha beer, I'm not a lager drinker, but I really enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

My personal favourite is Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi - best I've ever had! What I also love about this place is that nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I love Keema Rice which isn't on the menu but I asked if they could provide some and they have on every visit I've made there. The staff are so friendly and professional - as I have now been many times they know my choice of Wine and I no longer have to ask for a drink - for me that is quality service with a personal touch. They also always have a smile on their face and seem genuinely pleased to see their guests which doesn't seem to be a common thing these days. I live in Brynmawr but work in Crickhowell, I finish work at 4PM but will wait around in Abergavenny for an hour and a half for the Restaurant to open - it's that good!!! I have introduced over 10 family members / friends to this Restaurant since my first visit and every one has loved it with many of those returning with either myself or other friends. I have never had a take-away from here so I cannot comment on this but my preference is always to dine in - it's part of the experience and I cannot recommend this Restaurant highly enough. As someone who avoids vegan junk foods, such as vegan burgers, pizzas and pastas, and I cannot eat anything with chili in it, it can be such a challenge to eat out. Preferring to eat plant based, wholefoods cooked from scratch, my husband and I were delighted to find the food at the Gurkha restaurant not only very cheap, but also exceptionally delicious. We went at lunch time on a Thursday, and were surprised to find the restaurant so quiet. With food this good, people need to try it. The waiter was also very nice and appropriately attentive. We will definitly be back.

We visited on a Tuesday at about 6pm, when the restaurant was quiet, and had one of the most enjoyable, relaxing meals that we can remember - and certainly the best curry that we’ve been out for. Neither me nor my wife had tried Nepalese cuisine before, and despite her being a fussy eater, the close-to-familiarity of the Indian offerings was enough to bridge the gap for her. Meanwhile, I went for my first-ever fish curry, which was superb. Also highly recommended by me is the mango lassi - a creamy, fruity cocktail-like yoghurt drink, which I can’t wait to have again. The waiting staff were superb - not pushy, polite and knowing when to approach the table and helpfully offering advice on menu items. The combination of the food, the service and the serene experience means that we’ll happily make the 1-hour journey from our home in Neath specifically to come for a meal here.

The staff here are wonderful. We ordered takeaway for 4 meat eaters, 1 gluten free and 1 vegan. The gentleman was very cheerful and polite on the phone. They catered for my vegan diet and let me choose the level of spice as well! Lots of gluten free options on the menu. When we went to collect our food, the restaurant was clean and decorated beautifully. We were even given complimentary chocolates (and a lollipop for the vegan!) Everyone was pleased with their food. An overall lovely experience.

Having had curries all over the world we didnt realise we had a gem on our doorstep. We had Madras, chicken jalfrezi and chilli chicken all delicious, I tried them all 😉 This is a hidden gem you should try it for yourself-YUMMY.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Prawn nettle curry was well flavoured with herbs and spices as was the chicken tikka masala (unlike the normal bland offerings). Good garlic naan and pilau rice. Gurkha beer to wash it down! Definitely recommend eating here. Will be back to try other dishes.

Great welcome, hospitality and food. I have travelled in Nepal and this is just as good. The fish curry is the best I have ever eaten. There are not many places that give you ice and lemon in a glass of tap water! Well recommended.
