Gurkha Baynjan in Wiltshire

First visit , excellent. Brilliant food and service .

Very limited options for Vegetarians so I had a Samosa to start and then rice and two side dishes for my main course. The rice had been reheated it was dry and crunchy, the vegetable dishes I had were sag aloo and kerau paneer. The potato was undercooked with no sight of spinach and the paneer had a nice sauce but the paneer itself was flavourless. Neither side dish had any spice heat at all. Very disappointed.

First rate food, staff always friendly

We booked a table at 9 because we had been out for the day. We were welcomed in with a smile. Our food came out quickly and was just as good as it always is. We ate and drank and did not feel rushed out of the door. They even told us we could sit inside until our lift was here. The girls were very helpful and they chatted about themselves when we asked questions. They are so dedicated to working hard and making everyone happy. The young man at the end was friendly and thanked us for our custom. We have been going here for years now and we are never disappointed

1. We booked table for 8 including 4 kids.. initially went in and asked to see if we can move in conservatory as kids wanted to sit there. Answer from manger was table is booked . But then they could have easily swapped us . 2. Food was great 3. Asked for extra beer and answer from manager was that we have to leave as our allotted time was running out. Kids were so looking forward to have brownies but they couldn’t as it was over booked. 4. Disappointed kids and some adults with the service .

We came here for a meal with friends on a Thursday night. It was quite busy but nothing crazy. There was no warm welcoming and the service was the slowest I have ever experienced. Took half an hour to even come and take our order. I had veg samosa for starter and it was warm in some places and freezing cold in others. The peas inside were clearly still frozen. However the main was lovely and very tasty. Just disappointing on the starter and waiting so long between courses. Won't be returning in a rush

Fantastic local restaurant - amazing food

I love the food here. The lamb in the mixed starter is so succulent and full of flavour 😋. I thoroughly enjoyed the mustang lamb with sides of pilau rice, garlic Naan bread, and saag aloo chat.

Will definitely keep going back! 27/1 update: food continues to be outstanding. Staff are excellent and very accommodating. Highly recommend! 30/11/23 update: For us, Gurkha Baynjan has now established itself as a go to restaurant. It's local (walkable) and offers excellent Nepalese cuisine, which is a step above your average Indian restaurant. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Having eaten here since the opening night this has become our go to for a himali night in or night out. Every dish is superb but especially the Everest Lamb or Himali Hill Boy - tender lamb and brilliant flavour combination

Delicious food with fabulous service💜

I arranged a lunchtime reunion with friends from around the UK and Hong Kong. The location was ideal, being easy to access on the A4, with plenty of parking space. Despite having to continually adjust the numbers attending the event a couple of times prior to the day, the staff accepted the changes without hesitation, and arranged the tables in a square as I’d requested. On the day, they were as delightful as the food. We couldn’t have hoped for better. Many thanks.

I eat there vegetarian special (not that I am vegetarian) and it turned out to be one of the best meals I have eaten out for a long time.

This was my second visit and the experience was the same as the first. The owner is very polite and ensure he says hello to all of his customers. Drinks were surprisingly ‘cheap’ compared to other places. Half pint of coke was £1.20. Food was absolutely delicious. I had the best momo (dumplings) ever and the mustang curry was really good, well balance flavours with tender juicy meat and generous portion. There was a little hiccup with our bill at the end, but was quickly rectified. Will definitely come again.

Lovely food, pleasant atmosphere and very helpful staff.

A group of 8 lads went up and the food was absolutely amazing. It took some 45 minutes to go through the extensive menu. No one was disappointed. Would highly recommend.

Food was lovely, service wasn’t that great, we had to wait for some time for our food. At the end of our meal I asked for the dessert menu and that’s exactly what I got was the dessert menu, nobody bothered to come back and ask us what we wanted, waited for at least half an hour, and so we decided to leave, dessert less

When arriving we was unsure what the food would be like as its a little dated but I must say the food was absolutely beautiful and all fresh one of the best curries I have ever had also price is also extremely reasonable. Also the toilets are immaculate ! All the staff were very young but brilliant!! We will be returning

The food here is amazing. It tastes fresh and light but absolutely packed with flavour. This was my first experience of Nepalese cuisine, but would return if we are in the area again. The service was okay, but a bit of a mixed bag and not a warm welcome when you walk in the door, but the food covers all ills... Well almost as the loss of a star was based on okay service.

A little disappointed after visiting here and the reviews are mostly 5 star or 4 star. We visited for a birthday meal for 6 the bar is split into 2 so one side serves for drinks one side is for food. So the food itself was good but the service of the staff was a little poor. So the staff spent more time at the drinks side watching football and chatting to the public on the drinks side. Poor seating location meant we had to pass the waiters the plates between courses. Also had to leave the table so my friends could get out to use the toilet not ideal when there were 10 other free tables. The waiter questioned the bill after they even received a tip. Disappointed really which is a shame.

Had high expectations of the restaurant as I live in a town where the gurkha regiment are based and where similar restaurants are. Menu looked good and atmosphere equally so. Ordered 'Hillboy lamb' amongst other dishes and when it arrived it was dark in colour and looked delicious. However it had a charred taste and bitter aftertaste. When I queried this with the waitress she went off to ask the chef and came back with an apology. She stated that the chef was sorry as he had burnt the dish, however, still served it. There was no offer to re-cook it and we were still charged for it. The rest of the meal was delicious but the lack of intervention by the owner / manager was disappointing.

Came here on the 2nd October 2021 for a friends Birthday dinner. Very impressed! Staff were attentive, and all meals were brought at the same time, wonderfully presented, and tasted great! Surprised at the great value too as our final bill for 9 people, including starters, drinks (inc alcohol) and meals came to under £300! Will be visiting again! Thanks!

A super meal, as a vegetarian I could choose any meat meal and they were more than happy to substitute with vegetables. Our food was absolutely delicious, the service was great and I would recommend whole heartily.

I needed an early dinner for a meeting this evening, and it's always a worry when you're booked for the time that a restaurant opens, but fears were allayed. On arrival, the staff were all in place and working, they were extremely helpful and the service throughout the meal was exemplary. The food was a delight. I like Nepalese food, and this was authentic, properly spiced without being over-the-top or harsh, and the quantity was more than ample. Two people dining, with drinks and all for less than £50 - no idea how they can do such wonderful food, service, location and ambiance for the price. Thoroughly recommended

We visited this restaurant last night for our anniversary, the staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was amazing 👏 Will definitely be going again.

Had a birthday celebration meal at the Baynjan last Friday, there were nine of us, most of whom had never eaten here before. We all had a superb time, the food was amazing, the service second to none and the waitresses were always around to take extra orders for food and drink. Big thank you to Baggy for a well run restaurant.

Extremely tasty food! Well worth a visit!

We have been dining at Gurkha Baynjan since literally the first day they opened and the food has been consistently excellent. Always beautifully fresh, flavourful and nicely presented. The prices are reasonable and the menu choices broad enough to please everyone without being ridiculously numerous. Sadly, while the service always used to be really good, including through the various on-again / off-again periods when restaurants could or couldn't open during lockdown, there has recently been a significant deterioration in the quality of service. The staff, though mostly young, were always pleasant and efficient and really good at what they did. Lately though the staff mood and whole atmosphere has changed. There is tension between the staff and the service has gone way downhill. Orders are frequently not taken correctly, there are long waits for food, trying to order replacement drinks is a trial. Not like it used to be at all. Hopefully this will soon addressed and Gurkha Baynjan restored to its previous 5 star quality in all regards. We have tried to persevere but lately have just given up and gone elsewhere. Hope to be back before too long and find things the way they previously were, until the last 2-3 months.

Lovely restaurant with beautifully served starters and mains. The staff are welcoming. They've got what seems to be a new outdoor seating area which we used very recently so would definitely recommend dining in on a sunny evening. Their takeaway is equally great.

First time using the Gurkha Baynjan and had to have take-away because of the pandemic, so I can't comment on the service. The aroma from the food in the car as we were driving home was irresistible and every dish was superb, especially the Paltane Messing and Gurkha Special Chicken Curry. Will definitely be going back.

Fantastic food great service- highly recommend!

Because of lock down, had to have a takeaway from here. Never had Nepalese food before, will return for a proper restaurant service when conditions allow, so can only review the takeaway food. Food was very tasty, and portion size was spot on. Most dishes can be either mild or hot, the hot is not too hot. Food was full of flavour, the chunks of chicken and lamb in the dishes were massive and plenty of them. You can be confident that the food is good quality. Will review the restaurant when we're able to.

The food was exceptional! Sooooo good! The service was really good and staff really friendly. A lovely place to eat.

First visit and was pleasantly surprised. Décor is a bit tired but that's not a problem as it is clean and has strong Covid measures in place.The service was relaxed and attentive without being in your face. Baggy, the owner, was happy to discuss the menu and make some suggestions and recommendations for us. The food was spot on and really good resulting in clean plates.I would recommend this place as it is not a standard Indian Restaurant and they are very customer friendly and happy to modify dishes to your taste. Try the Gurka beer.Many thanks, we will return.

Absolutely delicious. Couldn't fault any part of any dish. A lovely varied menu without becoming monotonous. So full of flavour and definitely not like a usual curry house.

We came here on recommendation and the meal was okay but the ambience is lacking. The owner’s daughter, who is a student was charming, but one of the older waiters looked and acted disinterested which was a pity. We think it needs a refurbishment.

Went here on 22/8/20 with my daughter and husband and the meal was great. Service was very quick and good. With 2 starters, 3 mains, 3 drinks, sides, 2 desserts and a coffee the total came to £71. Very happy as we all came home full on great food ☺️

Absolutely excellent food here. For anyone unfamiliar with the cuisine, it's similar to Indian food but with its own style, dishes and spices.All for of us walked away happy and content. First time trying this restaurant excellent service from waiting staff, everything we asked or requested, required was no problem the food came very well presented left alone to eat our food without straight away being asked if food ok we had mustang lamb which was jaw dropping and the chicken Gurkha special curry was amazing to please come to this amazing restaurant and enjoy a beautiful environment

Ordered a takeaway and due to be ready at 6.50pm. I turned up and due to covid restrictions, there was a cordoned off area to pay and collect takeaways. I stood there and another customer walked in and sat at the bar. He was spoken to and told his takeaway would be about 10 minutes. Another man walks and he too sat at the bar. Again, spoken to and told the same. 3rd man walks in and stands away from the bar. Spoken to and told same story. I moved from the correct cordoned off area and stood in the bar area... Still no one spoke to me. Eventually, someone who I presume was the owner or manager asked if everyone was being served. I said no, gave my name and my takeaway appearered... 25 minutes late. The food was warm but tasted nice but unfortunately the staff have really let you down.

Having served in the Far East and Nepal the take away we were served was second to none on our first time here The flavours were authentic and just so tasty No hesitation in returning in the near future
