Great value, location and quality cafe. Right on the beach with an outdoor seating area and friendly staff. They even offer puppachino drinks for dogs!

Continuing to use this cafe after many years, good food and service always. If your local or here for a while they have a loyalty card for drinks too!

We love this beach cafe! Situated at the Gun Hill end of Southwold beach (furthest away from the pier) it serves a wide range of food and drinks and also has a good range of children's beach toys. Prices are reasonable, service is consistently friendly and the food is great. We love the bacon and brie sandwiches. The filled rolls, flapjack and cakes would tempt anybody to pause their diets! We spend a week in Southwold each year and borrow a beach hut close to the cafe. It is one of our special places to be - and the Gun Hill tea rooms makes it even more so!

I was attracted to this place by the 'no mention of covid' review. My husband and I avoid all the neurotic places which required masks etc. and social distancing. It was so refreshing to read that this lovely place wasn't falling for all the ludicrous propaganda! Great to see some free-thinkers exist in Southwold! Thank you.

Great friendly service and I was able to get a Gluten Free bacon and egg roll and a coffee without any problem at all. Having eaten the roll and the coffee was till too hot I purchased a whippy ice cream which I added to my cappuccino - had it abroad before, doesn't taste quite the same but worth a try. I would ceratinly visit here again ( and have several times before) knowing I can get a Gluten Free roll and always good friendly service - they also seem to be open when other establishments close early in the afternoon

We visit Southwold several times a year, and always have a few visits to Gun Hill kiosk for breakfast. Fab sausage and egg or bacon and egg rolls and a cuppa. Always consistent and great staff. Can’t beat breakfast on the beach on a dry day.

We started a tradition of having breakfast here last summer and it's become one of our favourite regular haunts in Southwold. The bacon and egg rolls are great, the coffee is excellent and the cakes are never dry and appear homemade (we're on holiday, we'll have cake for breakfast if we want to!) Service is always efficient (i.e. quick) and the staff are invariably friendly. Seem to be a lot of local dog walkers have the same idea so that's a strong recommendation. Best thing though is the location and the view up the beach or out to sea. As others have said, it's also good value which is rare in Southwold. Wish we were there tomorrow but sadly it will be next year now!

This beach kiosk has been here all the time I’ve been coming to Southwold, and that’s been many decades..! Still it’s still there and doing a pretty good job and not charging the exorbitant inflated prices that other local establishments seem to think appropriate… We enjoyed their bacon and sausage butties and coffees. Can get quite busy so you’ll have to queue at “peak” times.

I feel slightly put off by the LARGE notice by the hatch telling us that the card machine can fail at a moment's notice and IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT, so CASH IS QUICKER. Seriously? The tone is not welcoming :( 2 of the 3 times I have queued, I have waited a looong time... definitely longer than one ought to wait given the number of people. After that... The ice-cream selection is pretty good. I _think_ the prices are good too. The food selection is brilliant: all kinds of sandwiches (made to order, served with crisps and salad), bacon rolls and everything of that sort (the smell is pretty enticing). There is a selection of some nice (?home-made?) cakes. The big problem is the coffee: it's weak and really not nice. The cappuccino we ordered had no foam on it at all. I don't think this is the first time we've run into this problem here. Prices are good. Service is perfunctory but functional - I didn't see many smiles. Overall: perfectly decent for a beach kiosk: just don't have the coffee.

Sensible prices, a good range of beach food and friendly efficient service make for a great beach kiosk. We visited over seven days and enjoyed many cups of coffee, great bacon brie and cranberry toasties, milkshakes, ice creams and flapjack. All sensibly priced and tasting great. Mark owns both this cafe and the one at the other end of Southwold beach. Cheaper than Suzies cafe! Pay in cash because of intermittent mobile phone signals. Visit frequently!

Found this kiosk whilst walking our Boston terrier along the beach to Southwold for breakfast. What a find! Ended up having breakfast here every day. Bacon Brie and cranberry rolls looking out over the sea. Wonderful.

A really good beach kiosk, a good selection of food and an excellent location with tables on the beach. Try the fish finger sandwiches or breakfast rolls. Tea is always well made.

This is a great location and they serve decent coffee. Yes the service is slow at best but thats fine because you can sit on the beach while you wait. What ruins the whole thing is the downright miserable and unfriendly lady that works there.

This is a small kiosk on the beach in south of the town. We had walked from Southwold pier so stopped here for a coffee. Quick service, nice coffee.

The kiosk was just along from the beach hut we had borrowed for the day. Good selection of snacks and drinks. Coffee and the bacon roll were both excellent and not a bad price, staff also very friendly.

We had 5 lovely breakfast baps this morning which were probably the best we've tasted so far - even the gluten-free one was served in a delicious bap, which is rare as a lot of gf bread tasted like cardboard! All the baps we're about...

Lovely staff with lovely fresh food, we got locked out of our beach hut and they couldn’t have been more helpful towards us, the food was fabulous. Definitely worth a visit if you’re around the area! Thanks again to the staff & management😊

We had coffee and a sandwich at the cafe, both the coffee and the sandwich were nice enough. They could have squeezed more than two fish fingers into the sandwich and the cheese roll could have been bigger than a scone, but nothing to moan...

We love the Gun hill tea rooms. Everything there is sensibly priced, the service is friendly and brisk and the food tastes great. Some friends of ours have a beach hut just five huts away from the tea rooms, so we spent an entire week...

On a visit to Southwold we ordered tuna and cheese toastie and Suffolk ham and cheese toastie. Absolutely delicious, served with little salad and crisps.Friendly service too.

We stayed in a friends beach hut just six beach huts away from the Gun Hill tea room and used it for Seven full days never being disappointed with the service or the food. It is unusual to write a rave review of a seaside tea room but the gun Hill tea rooms certainly deserve it .Despite the challenges of Corona virus the kiosk continues to offer a brilliant service and great range of food and drinks at reasonable prices dash much cheaper than Suzie’s further down the beach!I strongly recommend the bacon and sausage baps, the cappuccinos, the teas, the flapjacks and the cakes. What is remarkable is not only that the food is sensibly priced and good, but that the service is really fast and efficient despite sometimes long queues. Table numbers outside are reduced, but there are plenty of other places to sit on the beach or nearby and staff serve you behind sensibly located Perspex screens to make things seem safe. You can pay with contactless or cash. Altogether the best kiosk on Southwold beach who are working hard to serve customers in difficult times and deserve a great deal of praise for their efforts.

Basic menu offering all you need for a seaside kiosk - hot and cold drinks to hot and cold, freshly made sandwichrs to ice cream. Set on the seafront facing the beautiful beaches of The Denes, Southwold. Queues can quickly build up being as it's the only kiosk in that area of the seaside. On saying that the wait is well worth it. Well worth a visit.

Went here today for a takeaway tea and latte and a Bacon Buttie all for under a Tenner! Lovely Tasty Bacon Bap and the drinks were hot and very well made. Lovely chatty friendly staff definitely worth visiting will definitely go again this is at the top end of the beach on the right next to sand dunes a little hideaway for a great drink and hot snack!

This was my third visit here, but the first in these strange and confusing times. I'd cycled to Southwold and in great need of sustenance - good news, it was open! I was hoping for a bacon roll like I'd had there before - I said "are you doing food?" "Yes, but only bacon rolls". Instant happiness. Bacon roll and a coffee were £3.70. £3.70! What a deal. This is just a Gem! Gorgeous views while you enjoy a tea coffee with a delicious bacon roll for only £3 such good value and SO nice after a long beach walk! They do hot chocolate and fancy coffees gorgeous cakes plus lots more! We’ve been using this place years and can not recommend it enough!

Lovely stop during a very long walk up and down the beach. Tea was just what the Dr ordered and very reasonable.

Visited on New Years Day following a recommendation...it is simply the best beach kiosk ever. The place was packed but served within 5-6 mins....food arrived within 10mins and was superb. Only had their basic bacon rolls etc but 4 delicious bacon rolls with 4 proper full strength coffees and only £12 !! Must be best value in Southwold. Would not hesitate to recommend and is my go to stop on our dog walks now. Sat and watched the world go by... Great place.

Stood in queue for 20 plus minutes until we got near the front. Then overheard the server person say that the coffee machine was not working and they were waiting for an engineer to come out.Why did no one come out straight away and tell the large queue of people that the coffee machine was not working before they all got to the front of queue. . Most people were just there for a drink. Honestly!

You head off along the beach, with the dog rambling around sniffing all sorts, the sun in your face, and the wind blowing a cool breeze and the Gun Hill Beach Kiosk appears just as you are mulling over whether to turn round or not. A bacon, sausage and egg roll (and/or coffee and walnut cake) and great coffee soon make you realise, as you sit in the sun watching the world go by, that there is no better way to spend a sunny Sunday morning!

On a cold but beautifully clear dry October day a large group of us meet up on Southwold beach many of us used this cafe and it was excellent service and choices where excellent. The ginger cake was very good.

We visit this cafe regularly when we are walking the dog. We usually have coffee and bacon rolls which are always delicious and great value for money. They have now added sweet waffles to their menu. Tried them and they are delicious. Served with a choice of chocolate, strawberry or maple syrup. We also added ice cream. They were delicious. A definite to try.

We parked the car in a small lot (free parking) on Ferry Road and found the kiosk by chance.

The quality of the food and drinks is better than the prices suggest. For 'just a beach caf', it is far better than it has a right to be.

Right on the prom and looking straight out onto the an extensive and sandy beach. We just popped in, relaxed and enjoyed a nice cuppa .

What a lovely way to start your day, coffee and a bacon roll after a walk along the beach with the dogs.

We spent a fabulous day here with our kids ages 7 and 5. The beach is mostly unspoilt and even on a sunny day it wasn't too crowded. The little beach hut sells the usual bucket and spade paraphernalia as well as hot and cold food and drinks. Lovely day out

Excellent coffees and ice creams, as always. We never miss an opportunity to drop by when we’re in Southwold. Friendly service, plenty of dogs to admire and a brilliant view of the beach.

I wouldn’t usually think to leave a review for a beach kiosk but this place is a little gem. Great coffee, lovely bacon roll and the staff were fantastic. I don’t want to sound patronising but they were all youngsters dealing with a crazy busy bank holiday and the were brilliant. Efficient and friendly - hats off to them. This will be our ‘go to’ place on all future visits ☕️

I last reviewed this place in 2016. It was good then, and do you know what? It is still great! Firstly the service is fast and efficient - unless they are very busy. Secondly it isn't expensive. A mug of tea costs just £1! Thirdly they have lovely cakes, Eccles cakes, flapjack and bacon sandwiches and other sandwiches which taste great. There's lots more too - ice creams, kids toys, beach equipment. And toilets are just behind, across the road. So once again the Gun Hill Beach cafe gets my top rating.

Great place for a snack and graze. Brilliant food, service and prices. Where the town is a little bit overpriced and hits families in the pocket this place is highly recommended. £1 a cuppa, £6 pizza etc. Great place to sit and chill from the beach. Best place in Southwold. Well done you guys!

Living nearby, we are lucky enough to be near enough to be regulars at the Gun Hill Cafe. The owners have always taken great pride in providing the highest standard of catering and brilliant value for money but, occasionally, they really do seem to get it especially right! Like today. An excellent Gun Hill Cannon burger, Suffolk-made and with cheese and bacon, in an excellent roll, with crisps and salad, for just £5! And 'proper coffee' where you're even offered a single or a double shot! We can't praise the owners enough for the quality of their food (all year round, I hasten to add), their fantastic prices and the level of service they endeavour to provide (even when swamped with tourists, during the school holidays). Excellent!

Wonderful hot coffees. Plenty of room to sit and spread out (on a Wednesday lunchtime). Bacon, sausage and egg rolls to die for. Fast delivery of food to the table. Sea air, people watching, nice serving staff.... what more can a man want!

This is an excellent cafe right on the end of the promenade. The food is excellent, as are the drinks. Very friendly service and great prices. £3 for tea/coffee and a bacon roll or £4 for tea/coffee and 2 sausages in a bap. Definitely recommend a visit with lovely view of the beach and sea.

Lovely little beach cafe at the start of the dog friendly beach. All outside seating. We had delicious coffee & walnut cake & Victoria sponge. Good cappuccino & latte from a barista machine. Excellent value for money, as everywhere else in Southwold is so expensive.

Me and my wife stopped for a cup of tea and a tea cake whilst taking a walk along the seafront. Very reasonably priced and a welcome pit stop.

Enjoyed great bacon and egg roll, freshly made and washed down with a lovely cup of tea, all within two metres of the beach. Located at the point the beach becomes dog friendly so canines are welcome and plenty of drinking bowls provided. The all year round popularity with visitors and locals alike is a testament to its quality.

It was our first time to Southwold and we found this little gem. Friendly staff, excellent service and very tasty food. We enjoyed some lovely lunches and the milkshakes were amazing !! Not to mention it being very good value for money.

We were fortunate to visit Southwold on Tuesday 26th February when it was 18c. Gun Hill offers delicious bacon & egg baps including a cuppa for £3.50!! Sitting in the glorious sunshine overlooking the beach couldn’t get any better. Fabulous little gem at the south end of the beach.

We went on a beautiful sunny day and it was very busy at the kiosk. Plenty of outside seating. We ordered two bacon and egg rolls and two drinks. We were served our drinks and sat down and waited a short time for our rolls. Very nice rolls with crispy bacon and eggs cooked to perfection. There was not a huge choice but just the right selection to keep anyone happy. The staff were very polite and efficient. Very nice place to eat and we will definitely return

We’d pondered where to go to celebrate my birthday, the weather was amazingly warm (probably the warmest birthday in 40 years)! We had presumed we’d end up with fish and chips down the harbour somewhere. Walking pass the beach huts from the pier it was pretty quiet and then we came across the oasis that was this place, buzzing with people all loving the warm weather a cuppa and a bacon roll. We had a super piece of Victoria Sponge and coffee in the sun before walking to the harbour whereupon we turned round and walked back revisited this great little place for lunch. Buzzing still with people and in a sun trap over looking the beach and sea we had several more cuppas and very tasty bacon and egg rolls, they were so nice the dogs were most disappointed not to get any scraps. We were sitting dreamily in the sun when Tracy brought us each 99 ice creams as a birthday treat on the house, which was such a wonderfully kind gesture. This place is a wonderful gem which we will most definitely visit again in the future. Thank you for making my birthday so special.

A little gem at the end of the promenade!! Although no overhead shelter, you can always find a sheltered spot from the wind. Excellent value bacon rolls, or any other filling you wish, all served with tea, coffee, hot chocolate or soft drinks.

Stopped here on numerous occasions & are never disappointed with their bacon rolls. Come in warmed, soft roll with smoked bacon. Great to set you up before a beach walk. Lovely place to sit & watch the world go by.

Perhaps surprising that it was open on the day after Xmas day - but able to cater for the post Xmas day crowds - this was also a lovely surprise because the bacon roll and hot drink for £3 was excellent - lovely roll and good quality bacon, excellent coffee, and smiley service. Add in the splendid view across the sand to the sea and it was the perfect place to pause after a stroll. Lovely!

We went for a walk on the beach and indeed found this place and what a joy. Christmas Eve and Bacon Roll and coffee (very good Coffee) £3.00 also carrot cake and Hot chocolate great. Also they love dogs there great location. Staff so helpful for a beach front cafe so good.

A toasted Cheese & Bacon with a cappuccino, or meeting friends ad their dogs, overlooking the beach and North Sea; the Suffolk Coast at its very best. Great staff; fine service; good welcome; our place of choice after walking the dogs on Sandling Way and across the beach and sand dunes !!

We've been here many times and there's always a warm welcome, good Teas & Coffees and snacks at affordable prices. Lovely beach and plenty of space. If you like a day at the beach, this is a good spot. They even open at weekends out of season.

We enjoyed tea and coffee cake sitting looking out over the sea. This is our favourite place and we were pleased there was a free table on a sunny autumn afternoon. The prices for tea and cake, or even sandwiches at lunchtime seem very reasonable considering the view!

If your're on the beach an want a dring and a bite to eat, well heres the place to go. and whild you are there you can look out to sea. Very relaxing.

Having been denied service at a seafood restaurant at the harbour we trudged back into Southwold and were delighted to find this cafe close to the beach at Gun Hill. My ham and tomato sandwich was tasty but my partner's cheese and pickle was overpowered by the Branston pickle. The service is cheerful.

Enjoyed lovely bacon and sausage batches with good coffee for £4.50 each! Stunning location too! Set at the back of the beach among the colourful huts.

Stopped here for drinks and a snack today. The coffee was full of flavour being made with quality beans and a barista machine whilst the bacon and sausage rolls were of a very high quality also. Excellent value and service with a smile, we hope to return again.

Every time my husband and I are in Southlake we always stop here for breakfast or lunch and are never dissapointed . We have been today for coffee and a bacon roll and as always it was lovely,the staff are really friendly and it's a really nice place to sit and watch the world go by.

Right on the beach with a great view. They have a reasonable choice of both drinks and snacks though considering it is a kiosk quite expensive. A nice place to sit with a cup of reasonaly priced coffee/tea

Set on the beach, on the quiet side of Southwold towards Walberswick, with tables and chairs right outside where you can sit and gaze across the sand and out to sea, this is an unpretentious little cafe. As you place your order at the counter you can see through to the spotlessly clean kitchen where they produce excellent food. We called by on Monday morning, as we often do after a stroll along the beach and, as usual, the bacon roll was delicious (the bacon is always good quality) and the home-made almond and apricot cake was simply scrumptious, freshly made, moist and delicious. Our drinks, a latte and a cappuccino, couldn't be bettered anywhere.

We hired a beach hut near Gun Hill kiosk this year on our yearly trip to Southwold. We were very impressed with the service and food on offer. Several times we took advantage of the Bacon roll with a cup of tea for £3... and dont forget to pick up a loyalty card on day 1 to take advantage of the buy 10 and 1 cup free... ! The pizzas looked great and very reasonable which we will have to try next year!
