Felt really slighted when paying £18 for a burger, which I ordered without bread and chips as I eat low carb - I was not allowed to have a bun or chips exchanged for salad leaves without incurring an extra cost of £2.50. It felt pretty bloody mean and was very unreasonable - other burger restaurants offer low carb alternatives, and I will be eating at those.

Good food but everything else about it was just crap. 2pm in the afternoon we arrive on a week day and to be told 2 items on the menu there out of but after ordering at the bar they were out of a lot more. Place was half empty but they said food would take 45 mins to come but only took 30 in the end. Guy who took my order was quite moody. The music was rockabilly which is not to my taste but it was so loud in there like a night club. Wouldn't take kids in there as I think they wouldn't like the venue. Toilets not cleaned and all the floors were sticky along with the table. I had the pork roll which really good along with fries and a drink for £8. The didn't complain about her meal. If you're a ladbible type person then this will be up your street.

As an expat Southern American, it has been a struggle to find a taste of home. But Grillstock has definitely gotten it right. Their pulled pork is tender and juicy and shows the time and care that quality pulled pork requires. I was really impressed to see that they have three barbecue sauces on the table, including my favourite, Carolina style (a must-try mustard based sauce). The sides were well seasoned, though simple, and the wings had the perfect amount of sauce. Finally, the value of what you receive for the cost is on point.

It's a 3.5 if you could score it. It's decor and lay out and music is amazing. Proper Texan bbq style. Watch the guys working hard prepping the food and is well priced. Love the lay out of long bars to eat at. But let it's self down slightly with food. Ribs were a bit dry and the toilets were filthy. Space is a premium but if they could have a bigger bar and a few tv's playing baseball and nfl it could be as good as what I go to in the states. But we'll worth visiting with the family.

We popped into grillstock the other evening for a date night and it was absolutely lovely! I asked our waiter (Dennis) for his advice on what was best on the menu and it didn’t disappoint at all. The food was great! The seasoning on the chips was AMAZING! Both myself and my partner were really pleased with the service! Dennis and another waiter were really friendly and helpful, I was especially impressed when I had asked another waiter for another drink and Dennis had remembered that I like a straw and had brought it over without me asking. MORE AT TripAdvisor

I should preface this review by saying that we are long-standing fans of the Grillstock 'brand' (my other half especially) - we like the Bristol branch and have been to the Grillstock Festival for several years running. Our first (and likely only visit) to the Bath branch was a disappointment however. Having booked in advance online, we were thankfully ushered straight to a table upon arrival by a friendly waitress. Curiously there were two nearly-full drinks left on our table - we should have seen this as a sign... Although we were seated quickly, it was then over half an hour before anybody came to take our food order and even then, this was only after my other half got up and sought out a waiter to grumble at. We were then told that there was no bottled water nor cream soda left. For context, it was 7.15pm on a Saturday evening, not end of service on a Sunday.A strange battle then ensued between the staff and the customers - despite being a freezing cold November night, the staff were intent on leaving the front door wide open, letting in an arctic breeze. Understandably, customers were getting increasingly angry about this and so began an odd game where as soon as a customer closed the door, the staff would open it again. Customers were actually resorting to wearing their winter coats indoors and yet none of the waiting staff even acknowledged the problem. Clearly there's an issue with the extractor fans, which is ironic considering that the air system is exposed as part of the décor. After an hour of waiting and no sign of our food, we seriously considered walking out. In fact, we hadn't seen ANY food leave the kitchen for almost 20 minutes (likely something to do with the large group next to us). At this point we realised that the nearly full drinks left at our table on arrival had clearly belonged to another couple who had walked out in protest at the waiting time. The other couples sat around us were all stony faced and staring intently at the kitchen hatch. It was in fact 1 hour and 20 minutes before our food arrived. When it did arrive, the waiter promised to bring cutlery, before promptly forgetting to do so - we had to go and find our own as our food was getting cold. The food was fine - my other half enjoyed his Lockjaw burger and burnt ends - but the whole experience was marred by the shambolic service. Although the waiting staff were trying very hard to be upbeat and 'perky', Grillstock seems to have forgotten that efficiency and customer comfort should be paramount.

I had the burger with bacon and cheese, fries and a coke for about £7. The waitress was really good but a little stretched as the place was busy and she was working solo. The food arrived in a timely fashion and looked great on the plate. The burger was very tasty and a delight to eat. Will definitely return to Grillstock to try some of their other offerings. Out in Bath on a bright Autumn day then our little boy wants lunch, just as we walk by Grillstock. The venue looks good and we elect to sit in the sun. I order mac and cheese for the little one, chicken burger for the wife and I select the brisket and burnt ends meal which at £18 suggested it was a large meal (we planned to share!)What I was presented with was, ummmmmm disappointing to say the least. 3 slices of brisket and 5 little chunks of burnt ends with a “cup” of fries, a small spoonful of coleslaw and a tub of chilli, all served on a metal food tray ! Now for the people coming out of bath station needing instant food gratification I can understand they wouldn’t argue the ridiculous lack of value but I could honestly have purchased a very nice rib eye steak meal from a local gastro pub for the same priceMy wife then looks for the manager to discuss the poor value and is met with a “manager” who couldn’t believe we weren’t happy and struggled to understand our dissatisfaction with the portion valueWe didn’t expect a mountain of food but brisket is the cheap cut so more than 3 small slices would have helpedNow the quality of the food is very good so no problems but the value for money is very poor and not exactly what you are led to believe when reading the menus Anyway visit the place for a tasty snack and on the flip side the burgers looked goodNote to the management..... the area is full of restaurants so competition is high. Food brought over promptly and we ordered the shared platter which was huge. Meat tasted amazing, and the mac and cheese was nice enough. However I didn't rate the chilli cheese on the chips, I don't think it tasted great. Could have done with a side salad or similar added onto the dish. Dessert menu was poor so we didn't go for a dessert, which is unusual for us. A takeaway box was offered so we could take over all left overs

Troppo caro per quello che offre ma d'altra parte a Bath tutto è più caro trattandosi di località "d'elite"

Popped in here for a quick meal in the evening. The decor is interesting and suits the style of food on offer. It was a quiet evening. You make your food choice then go up to a counter to order. There is a good choice on the menu although as we sat down we were informed of several items not available that night but at least we did not find this out as we went to order. There were several mix ups with the order which meant we all ate different times. I felt the staff were not really bothered about this. Do not order the sides they are very expensive for the small amount of food served. Once we got our order the food was actually tasty but spoilt by all the mix ups during service. One question why can the door not be shut when it is pouring with rain and cold and windy? There was no where to change tables that would of been out of the draught. Surely customer comfort is important?

The menu is typical of a BBQ or smoke pit and all the regulars are there. The pulled pork was lovely, the brisket was very average. The slaw was basic and the sauces tasted the same, I liked the pickle and the chips were chips. The HUGE pork pops (puffy scratchings) were epic and the chilli ham accompaniment perfect.Reasonable cocktails and a clever but limited drinks menu.Fun, very cheap but can be done better I would say is fair to say.

The meal itself was very similar to any american style meat joint, and nothing spacial (The spice over whelmed the flavour a little). Half empty at 9:30pm on Friday night for good reason.Let's begin with the positive - the fries were good - thin, crisp and nicely salted.Pretty much everything else was awful - beef brisket was fatty slices of processed slime. The accompanying coleslaw was grey in both appearance and taste. The mac & cheese side seemed pretty innocuous until we spotted the garni of a whole rasher of undercooked bacon. This "dog & slaw" American BBQ concept appears to be pitched at the lower-end of the market but even falls short of that - personally I would rate it below McDonalds and Burger King.

Why oh why do people who clearly hate hospitality take jobs in restaurants ? We went to Grillstock in Bath last night and were greeted by a nice friendly server who, after seating us, directed us to the bar to place our order. The young man behind the bar barely made eye contact with me but just about managed a grunt.( Certainly no hello. please or thank you). He served me a warm beer in a hot class striaght from the dishwasher and offered no alternative when I complained. Fortunately the other server was able to find me a cold glass for my warm beer. The service was slow considering there were no more than 10 people in the restaurant, the nibbles we ordered arrived with the main course but the food was ok.. There is no excuse for this standard of service anywhere but this is Bath ... one of the UKs top tourist attractions. I cringe with embarassment when I wonder what foreign visitors must think when they are subjected to miserable, unhelpful staff who really should not be customer facing.

I visited here with friends who had eaten there before and said how delicious the food was.... this cannot be denied! When we arrived all staff were at the rear by the kitchens, so we lingered at the door for a bit before deciding we'd just grab one of several free tables. A staff member then approached and grabbed us 4 menus, all of which were quite greasy and unappealing to touch – I’d already eyed the menu online so knew what I wanted. Ordering was painless and when the food came it was all correct though each meal had a little tweak from the listed menu (no sauce on this one, no salad on that one and different fries with that one etc) We did feel it was rather long wait for how many other customers there were but at least everything was as we’d asked. Burgers (in one form or another) all round and they were super tasty, well-seasoned and had nice buns! Fries were served in a mini bucket (which is, in my opinion, just annoying and a way to serve less of them than putting them on the darn plate!!) Again though, nicely cooked and seasoned. I visited the ‘facilities’ to find one cubical out of toilet roll with a wonky seat and the other littered with toilet roll and paper hanging off the wall. I understand it is mostly patrons who use them and therefore cause mess, but this looked like a good couple of hours of neglect (especially the hanging wallpaper) I overheard one party being told there were 3 items they were unable to prepare plus anything with hotdogs – which looking at the menu seemed like at least ¼ of it. Toward the end of our visit the restaurant became very smoky – which meant the door was left open on quite a chilly evening and staff greeted new customers having to apologise for this first – which is not a good first impression or last impression, as we could all smell it on our clothing long after we’d left. Overall, the experience let the food down. The food was top notch, though portions were a little small and expensive (in my opinion) versus the service and surroundings you get at other venues for equal or less money.

When the food came the burger looked amazing, and my son said it was good. My brisket looked quite sad, 3 thin strips of meat, fries and slaw for approx £12 was about £4 too much for what was on offer, I wish I had the burger! Still it was all very tasty and total bill came in at approx £30. I've learnt to go for a burger next time if you are looking for best value. One thing was off putting (maybe it's just my age?!) And that was the unisex toilet(hate them full stop) which was covered in urine, all over seat and floor with toilet roll all smushed in-really dirty and disgusting. I always think toilets reflect a places hygiene standard. All I can say is if I'd been to the loo before eating, I'd have probably left! The place wasn't busy enough that someone didn't have time to check and clean them-this was a shame as it will put me off eating there in the future.

It began to get a bit busier and we watched as one group tried to find a table that wasn't broken. Most were wobbly. After nearly an hour - no exaggeration- I went in to see where our order was. The chef looked flustered and was obviously struggling. However, it wasn't that busy. We were told it was just coming. 10 minutes later as I stood up to go and cancel our order as we had to go, it arrived. The table of 4 who sat down just after we'd arrived decided to give up and asked for their money back.Grillstock, you were poor today. Was it worth the wait? No. Was it worth the money? No. Will I be coming back to any of your restaurants again? No. You're in a business that needs to compete at the top of your game to survive. Especially in a place like Bath. A prerequisite at least is a table that works. Let's start there and work up. And please ask your staff not greet everyone with a well rehearsed 'Hi guys!' It's really annoying.

We visited this place on the 17th March 2017 as a family two adults and two kids (7 & 9). We all really enjoyed our food the kids had beef burgers, my wife had a chicken burger and I had the half chicken with a side of macaroni cheese. All the food is great and the staff are helpful. The place is kid friendly albeit it would have been easier for the kids if we'd sat at a table and chairs rather than the bench seating which was a bit high for them.

First impression was not great, we were presented by a fairly nonchalant waitress advising that the PDQ machine was out of order, and therefor cash only. This was not a problem, we had cash. However, she continued to advise that many of the items on the menu were not available. When we went to order, an option that we had not been advised was off of the menu was off - hot dogs, approximately a 5th of their menu. At this point we decided that this was not an establishment that we wanted to eat at. It felt disorganised and frankly not too clean - the menus we were given were tatty, and hardly legible because of the grease. To be clear, we came here following a very positive experience at their sister restaurant in Bristol. Very disappointing experience.

Met a friend for lunch today, my first time here having heard good things. Cool decor- like a Nissen hut with fly posters- and comfy stools. Loads of condiments on the tables is always a plus. Loud music, albeit great bands. Ordered food: lunch deal was great value and easily adapted for my gluten-free pal. Waited for food. Loud music not conducive to good chat but we persevered. Waited for food. Investigated the condiments- smelt good. Waited for food. Shouted to each other for a bit. Waited for food.Food eventually arrived- tasty burger topped with pulled pork almost as good as my own efforts, lots of sauce and a bun good enough to hold it all together. Yum! Crisp fries, tried all the condiments. Tasty food and a good shout-I-mean-chat with a pal made this an enjoyable meal food-wise but oh my word the music is loud loud loud. I'd have asked them to turn it down but I'm afraid I'm turning into my mother.

This is a trendy US-style food outlet aimed at the young and trendy of Bath. Last night I ate in the place a couple of doors away which is of the same style so it is interesting to compare the two. This one is decorated in industrial grunge style. I was seated quickly as it wasn’t too busy, a bit like last night. The piped music was a lot quieter than next door, but the selection of music was not as good. Like last night I was dining alone and had no one to converse with so on that basis swings and roundabouts. The menu here focusses on smoked meats but also has burgers, hot dogs and a few other things, a wider choice than next door. However, my waitress’s opening gambit was to list all the things that were ‘off’ including all the smoked meats, their signature dishes, and all the hot dogs. Next door had had their full if smaller menu available, one point to next door. Like next door you have to go up to the bar to order, once you have selected at your table. Like next door the infuriating system is you have to pay when you order. I pointed out that I did not yet know if I would want a second drink, or a sweet, or a coffee but if I did, as my meal progressed decide I wanted each I would have to pay, (I was using a card) up to four times. She agreed that was the case and seemed unperturbed about it. This cannot be progress. Next door had agreed reluctantly that I could pay at the end. Major plus point to next door. Here I had to have chips with my meat whereas next door they were optional. Plus point to next door. However, I paid 50p to upgrade my chips to sweet potato chips. The food was quite good. I had the pulled pork, the sweet potato chips were good, the pulled pork was good, there was a small crisp salad and a small pickle. I enjoyed it. I had a house pale ale, as I had had next door. It was nice, but not quite as good as next door but 50p cheaper so among swings and roundabouts again. The food in both places was equally good, of its type, derivative US style fast food but at the top end of that genre. The payment arrangements are very annoying. On this assessment it looks like next door wins but in fact both were good of their kind and I would happily go to either or both again for a quick light meal.

We visited as a family of 5 and had to wait 50 minutes for our meals. I wouldn't have minded, but when the meals came, the HogDog was cold and the Philly Cheese Steak Dog was, as you can see in the picture, unacceptable with burnt cheese throughout the filling. We spoke to the waitress and they promptly replaced the Philly with a new one. Instead of replacing the HogDog, they just reheated the same meal. The service was okay, the wait was excessive, and the food, including the replacement meals, were disappointing. The other three meals we had were of an acceptable standard, although they were a little on the cold side.

Painfully loud music, incredibly hot and stuffy (to the point of making us queasy), cramped uncomfortable seating – none of these would been a deal-breaker if we didn’t also have to wait the best part of an hour for our food, which was then truly awful. We expected big flavours and lush, meaty, sticky deliciousness. What we got was not just dry, but also either completely bland or weirdly revolting. The whole thing was a big mistake; one we won’t be making again.

I have, shamefully as there are lots of places to visit in Bath, been to this restaurant 3 times in the last few months. It is just so easy to go there. The staff are always friendly, helpful and clearly love the brand that they are selling, and its very reasonable. Now, dont get me wrong, the Burgers are really good, probably far better than most pubs and restaurants, but the Ribs are to die for. Pair this with their pickle and coleslaw and you have a great dish. I hesitate to say that its cheap, only because it insinuates the quality isnt that good, or they are skipping something. Not the case here. It is super super reasonable and the quality is top notch! If you want some meat, go here.

I have been to Grillstock in Bristol many times, we decided to stop by in Bath last weekend. Unfortunately the ribs had virtually no meat on them, they were over cooked and chewy (not pleasant). Our sides were messed up twice and we arrived, had a place in the queue, yet seemingly several others seemed to get in front of us because they sat down without waiting, poor table management for a busy saturday.Normally I can't stop raving about grillstock, but it really let us down this time.

The restaurant is located in the railway arches outside Bath Spa station, so is a good stop off ahead of the rugby. A busy and popular restaurant it serves reasonable burgers and has a few bottled beers on offer to go with the meal. It's fine for a one off visit but it's not that special and not that cheap. I can only recommend this place if there is nowhere else to go.

Second time visiting, assumed the food was below average last time due to it being busy but this time there wasn't more than 10 customers and the food was no better.Pulled pork was dry and hard to swallow. Burnt ends just tasted like charcoal. Ribs were over-cooked so dry meat stuck to the bone, but smothered in sauce to cover it up. £3 for a small glass of ice tea was excessive. For somewhere specialising in BBQ I expected the BBQ food to be MUCH better - we can do better ourselves at home.Disappointed - will not visit again.

The music is fab and adds to the experience. The staff are all really friendly and the food is great! We've gone numerous times as a family and we always order the big challenge platter which is more than enough for our little family of four (costs about £35 - two adults, two children). The burgers aren't as good as the meat platters but we've never come away wanting more or feeling disappointed. It does get busy around peak meal times and you can't book. Other than the above, minor, downsides this is a great place to eat with rockin' music and tasty food.

My only small quibble would be that there's no waiter service. I don't have an issue with paying up front but when we needed drink refills during meal one of us had to get up and queue. Also whilst we had a separate table it looked like other people were sat canteen style next to each other. does mean there's not a. Great deal of privacy

OK, I haven't eaten in EVERY pulled meat place in Britain's West Country but I do LOVE smoked Barbecued meats and have tried plenty. We walked past this unimposing little establishment (tucked into a railway arch) as we disembarked from the station the morning we arrived. The menu looked promising so we came back to try it for lunch. GOOD choice. We went for the Pulled Pork BBQ Plate and a full rack of ribs with some cowboy beans and two glasses of cola. It all came to £30 which isn't budget but it was worth every penny. I took a photo but that can't convey how perfect each element was. The fries, crisp and seasoned with a little salt and cracked black pepper, were a delight in themselves. The 'slaw had an authentic "homemade" texture and taste and the even the accompanying pickles were spot on. But the meat - oh the meat was just sublime. The bottle of BBQ sauce on the table was OK but didn't add much. However, pouring the sauce from cowboy beans over the pork was a far better combination. The ribs were even better. We went for the whole rack which you ab-so-lute-ly MUST try. I think a full rack (with it's accompaniments) would be more than enough lunch for 2 average people. We were stuffed by the end. I truly can't wait to go back!

This location is by the train station. Cramped, with odd tables, and the door opening every minute means it's cold inside and if you're in the half of the restaurant nearest the door, you will be cold. Secondly, they give you a menu and there is no waiter -- you have to go to the cashier to order and pre-pay. of course, you wait in queue. Annoying. Then they are out of this and that. Out of iced tea?? You're kidding. Our of beans?? At a BBQ place? Then they do not allow substitutions. You're stuck with chips (fries) with everything. I ordered the hog dog -- a supposed hot dog with pulled pork on top. Came out cold. The hot dog was the cheapest thinnest sausage imaginable, so salty and flavourless. The pulled pork was tangy, Carolina style but didn't taste like Carolina vinegar flavour; it tasted rancid. impossible to pick the dog up. We asked for pepper and were told they don't have pepper. What?? Then we asked for ketchup -- even their ketchup tastes tangy like BBQ sauce. The bib lettuce salad my wife ordered was three limp leaves uncut on a platter. A lousy time, lousy food, a lousy service and delivery model. Sorry, but this ain't US BBQ.

This was my first visit to a grillstock and I have to agree with the 22nd and 4th October reviewers. I went for a starter of very oily and brittle onion rings and then the £12.50 beef brisket. As the place is supposed to be a meat lovers paradise I thought £12.50 should get a decent amount of meat. All that arrived were 2 long but not very thick pieces of beef, a small bucket of skinny fries and 2 small pots of relish/coleslaw. It really did look pitiful. My partner went for a burger which was ok but lots of places do that better in Bath. A 330ml can of pop was £2.50 and bottles of beers £4. Very disappointing and I won't be back.
