Great visit on a busy Saturday night. Staff were very nice and place was very clean and comfortable can’t wait to return

Called in for lunch around 13-30, plenty tables so no problem getting seated. There was some kind of children’s crèche meeting in the adjacent room but all in all quite quiet. Real ale has always been good in here so no problem with that. The food came and was quite bland, not sure if the chicken and bacon in my sandwich was reheated. All in all not bad but I would not rush back for food

Having never been before I saw the favourable reviews and booked for Sunday lunch. When we entered my son said "Let's go somewhere else" because it was full of families with young children. Because I had booked, and didn't want to go back on my word, we stayed: big mistake. This pub has a welcoming feel to it and the staff are very friendly. Also the drinks are fine, but the lunch was nowhere near the standard we are used to. They had run out of all meat except for beef, which didn't bother us, but I could hardly chew through it. For quantity it was a ten, but the quality was a two. Tough meat aside the vegetables and gravy were very poor and the roast potatoes must have been in the oven for two hours or reheated. Only the Yorkshire pudding was edible. The gravy was thick and gooey.

Absolute belter of a pub to watch the match, apart from one drawback...letting people reserve tables. It's that busy a pub I don't get the reservation of tables to watch football. To me, should be first come first served...gets a table. Not putting your towel down, then rocking up just as footy kicks.

Nice pub....friendly staff. Scampi and chips. (£6.00 10/2/23) Plenty people in on Friday afternoon, so popular. Plenty beers to chose.

The restaurant is very cozy furnished. You can feel there like at home. It is very clean, which is very important. The food is delicious. Very nice atmosphere and attentive service. I highly recommend the restaurants.

Having day, so went for tea. Pub was clean and friendly, he had his favourite, scampi, chips and mushy peas, I had burger and chips. Burger was really good lots of flavour but not overloaded with lots of extras. Staff were polite and checked in with us, making sure we had everything and were happy with meals.

Came in for a bite to eat and a drink. I was spoilt for choice, ended up getting a pint of poretti and 3 small plates. 10/10, will be back. Cheers!

All round great ‘proper’ pub. The staff really can’t do enough for you and nothing is ever too much of an ask. I live in the area and we have plenty of pubs in Boldon but I come back to this one every single time because of the staff. Keep pouring that Peroni as good as you do 🥰🍺

This pub is amazing for a nice night out or a celebration too, i recently celebrated my brothers 18th here with my family and the staff couldn’t of been more lovely. Food was also gorgeous especially the burgers, definitely recommends.

Brought my son for his 18th with a few members of the family, the staff went above and beyond to help make my sons 18th a memorable one, we all had the most amazing time, we all had food and it was fresh, hot and beautiful.

This my local pub. Staff are always friendly and welcoming. The Grey Horse has a good selection of real ales. There are plenty of TV screens for watching sports. Also has a great quiz on Wednesday evenings.

The Sunday lunch is OK nothing to write home about and the whole place was cold had to keep our coats on while eating

Beautiful cozy pub, I went in for a Sunday lunch. It was reasonably priced and the staff was very nice. Would definitely come back, the only reason it's not a 5 is that my roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were burnt. Something else to note, they had loads of parking available which was a major plus! 09/03/2023 Update I went back to the grey horse and the yorkshore pudding and potatoes weren't burnt so I would now rate the whole thing was a 10/10. The food tasted even better than before and the service was excellent! Would 100% reccomend for anyone looking for a place to pop in for a nice Sunday Roast. :)

Sadly we had started our lunch when a couple came in with a dog. The dog wasn't well behaved and the owners allowed it to jump around the furniture and sit on the seats people have to use! I'm afraid we won't go back.

We celebrated my partner's birthday in the Library area in this pub, approximately 20 of us. We were really well looked after and would definitely use it again for a similar celebration. A huge THANK YOU to the team at The Grey Horse.

We've always enjoyed visiting The Grey Horse, and never had an issue until today. We called in today as a family of four, two adults and two kids, for a late lunch. As normal we found a table, ordered drinks, and returned to order our food. The girl behind the bar was as lovely as ever; we call in every Saturdays for a drink and she always goes out of her way to make us feel welcome, and she's great with the kids. It appears an error was made when ordering part of our meal, as we had asked for nachos with beef, but when they came there was no beef on the nachos. No big deal, but we raised this with another member of staff, the older lady, as she was serving us. We expected a polite response regarding the error, and maybe an offer to rectify the mistake. As I said, it wasn't such a big deal, however what followed is quite possibly the worst example of customer service I've ever experienced. The lady said, and I quote "well you must have ordered the wrong thing". I questioned this, as both myself and my wife were stood at the bar with menu in hand, and pointed to what we wanted, as well as asking quite clearly for nachos with beef. As noted, it's no big deal and we weren't particularly bothered as we understand mistakes can happen, however when told by the rude lady that we had ordered the wrong thing I countered with "so you are saying it's our fault that you have brought the wrong food out". The response from the lady was "yes, it's your fault" who then turned and walked away from us mid conversation. I literally couldn't believe somebody could be so rude. In difficult times we have chosen to visit The Grey Horse over many other local options, and handed over our hard earned money. The very least we expect is common decency and manners from staff. The young girl behind the bar was brilliant, hence two stars rather than one, however the older lady who served us left us amazed with her brazen rudeness. No attempt was made to rectify the mistake, or offer an apology. After we had finished eating we sat and finished our drinks for 10 minutes or so as we had been joined by some family members. At no point was our table attended to, to remove dirty plates, and the ice cream for the kids that we had ordered never arrived. Maybe the lady was avoiding us having realised how rude she had been. This has totally put us off returning for our weekly Saturday drinks. We were due to stay in The Grey Horse today with the family members we met up with, but instead the six of us went down the road to The Black Bull, which is likely to become our new Saturday venue.

Thoroughly enjoyed our family visit to the Grey Horse and Board Inn , always a lovely meal very reasonably priced. Lots of choice on drinks.

This is a picturesque little pub in the middle of nowhere and well worth a visit. Always good food every-time I’ve eaten there and would recommend to others to do the same. Great selection of proper beer, it’s just a shame they’ve sold their soul...

We called in here on our way home. We went for the £9.99 two course meal. 1st course of mushroom Bruschetta, was served of on non toasted brown bread, but it was tasty because we were hungry. 2nd course of Sausage and mash. Was horrible....

I had catch up here with friends yesterday evening. The menu had a wide variety and catered well for veggies/vegans at a reasonable price. I had the scampi, chips, mushy peas and all our 3 meals were very tasty. There was a good atmosphere in the pub and the lovely dark haired lady looking after us couldn't have been more helpful with her wine expertise and menu advice. Also my son, girlfriend and his friends were in on Saturday evening and enjoyed the burger and chips. Will definitely be back. Full mark's all around.

We had lasagne and my wife had sausages and chips as there was no mash,the lasagna was basically a purée of tomatoe based paste ,doubt if there was any meat in there and the pasta topping was minimal,my wife’s meal ,the chips were good but the sausages were the driest cheapest ones ever.on the plus Side the coffe was good and the staff very friendly,just having my alka seltza

We were visiting for a family members 80th Birthday, the room was perfect and well set up, buffet was one of the best we have had at a party. The tall gentlemen who was working behind the bar really couldn't have done anymore for us...

Nice staff, however food was terrible. We ordered the hunters chicken when we received it all a saw was a tin of chopped tomatoes with the chicken on top it was warm and not hot and the onion rings weren’t even cooked but covered in oil. Even my family members food was the same as mine, This was meant to be a special occasion for my friend’s 65th birthday and the meal was very disappointing. I remember going to this place 3 years ago and the food was nice but now its not nice to eat here, I think they must have changed the chef.

Starter ok , although stated on menu blue cheese there wasn't any in my mushrooms but still pleasant , fish and chips were spot on .

We popped in for the rugby the atmosphere was amazing great pint of Wainwright which we never see in the local pubs. Combo sharer was huge and the staff were very friendly. Toilets were very very clean considering how busy it was.

Yes only 3 stars for me and that's really because the had peroni on draft I get it's a local and all that but not that welcoming and say a point off the jukebox screeching to a halt and the locals staring as you're told to stay on tha paaath (American werewolf in London reference for those who don't get it) but hey it was a Sunday afternoon just after New Year and was busy

The Grey Horse is easily the best pub in Bolden And it isn’t just James who makes their reputation golden Fixodent is the unofficial currency And Stuart whips the kitchen into a frenzy But the manager has the biggest appendage out of the lot of them
