Called in for a Sunday roast and we weren’t disappointed. The food was really good and the three girls who were working were lovely, really helpful and cheerful. All COVID guidelines were being followed and it was a safe and clean environment. Can’t wait to go back.

Stopped in for lunch and had the most amazing chicken and leek pie. It was delicious. We never had sticky toffee pudding, tried theirs and it was also delicious. Staff very kind. COVID restrictions adhered with. Lovely place to eat.

Our third visit since this hotel was taken over and really can't fault it, the belly pork is to die for and my husband's burger was probably one of the best he's had.staff are just so nice nothing too much trouble. Can't wait to go back.

first visit here , very friendly staff. very good food, maybe some of the dishes a little pricer than other places. I had the beef burger which was very good value.

A friendly welcome, top notch food and COVID adaptations that don't spoil the experience make this a great place to visit.The Scotch Egg starter was novel, impressively presented and thoroughly delicious, While my cod and chips main was large, well cooked and served with really well made mushy peas and tartre sauce.Some good local beers as well. Would definitely return if I'm in the area again.

We stopped here after visiting local sites. We had a great dinner, starters main and dessert - everything was delicious and the staff were very friendly. These were really nice surroundings in a clean covid secure bar with up to date decor. Unfortunately our campervan broke down in the carpark, we were allowed to stay until we were able to move it in the morning. Cannot highlight enough how good the food was, a really worthwhile stop.

What a wonderful surprise! I had been to Greenhead Hotel many many years ago when it was a traditional pub with basic pub grub and basic interior. A pitstop rather than an experience which is what I was expecting when we visited again but the place has been transformed! We had fantastic food in the modern bar area in front of the fire and the staff were so friendly! It really felt as though the staff were genuinely interested in talking to you. I’m trying very hard to find another excuse to go back. A destination pub now rather than a pit stop. Thank you!!

We called here for lunch today it was a miserable day, the bar was quiet we were asked to sit wherever we wanted menus were given and order was put in quickly, food came shortly definitely worth the short wait, staff very friendly will definitely be back

Popped in for a quick bite - so pleased we did. We had hot beef sandwich with mushrooms and caramelized onions, was very enjoyable. Importantly there was no problem in swapping out the ciabatta bun for a gluten free bun. Given the late hour we arrived they were also happy to offer us something off the dinner menu - incredible service. In fact the service was fantastic nothing was too much trouble. Lunch menu offered good choices very reasonably priced given you are near a major tourist attraction (Hadrian’s Wall).

Group of 6 of us dined here for 2 nights and had the best burgers by far, and served with friendly and welcoming people.It was a joy, especially amongst a group of "hard to please" who gave applause for both the quality and the exceptional value.Thank you Greenhead Hotel

Having driven past the hotel many times before we desided this time to stop over for a late lunch/early dinner, I'm glad we did!Very attentive service, tasty food huge portions and everything was hot. Loved it so much that I'm taking the family there when they next visit!Oh and great prices.......

We arrived after a day long walk along the Hadrian Wall, and the Greenhead Hotel was a pleasant surprise. We had a delicious dinner ended with amazing desserts. The Guinness was also excellent ( I was dreaming about it before arriving in England ). All the staff of the restaurant and hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. Thanks again for the lovely evening!

De kaart biedt zowel regionale als internationale producten. De soep met brocoli en stilton was een topper, maar ook de andere gerechten waren prima.Heel vriendelijke bediening. Aangezien wij logeerden op ongeveer 1 km werd ons zelfs een terugrit naar de B&B aangeboden. Mooie zaak!

Called in for tea after a trip to the wall and expected a but of standard pub fare. Me and my chap both ordered the Greenhead Burger and it blew my tiny mind. They were so outrageously stuffed that despite being pinned in place by a skewer they were in danger of toppling. The Greenhead burger is an an 8oz tasty beast topped with a slab of black pudding three thick rashers of back bacon generously smothered in melted smoked cheese, finished with a little salad, sweet marmalade relish and topped with a brioche bun. I had make some adjustments in order to pick it up it was so gargantuan.The whole ensemble was super tasty and the flavours worked well. The sides of potato fries, coleslaw and and proper homemade onion rings finished it off nicely.I ate so much I drifted in to a meat coma in the car on the way home.The staff were very friendly, attentive and even though there was a big wedding on it didn't impact on us at all. Thanks for my top tasty tea!

We called in here hungry during the Bank Holiday weekend in May. We were made very welcome and the service was polite and prompt. We eat out quite a lot and the Title of this is a quote from my husband when he was half way through his meal, (the belly pork) which he heartily finished.

Stopped for late tea. These nice folks have food up all the time, including a nice bar food menu. Loved our food... Ate too much and loved every bit of it.

Stopped here for a bit of lunch after walking along a section of the wall. The lunch menu had a great choice (my fish finger sarnie was awesome). Good choice of beers as well.

This pub was friendly and provided great food when we were here last September, the new refurbishment has now given the ambience a warmer more inviting feel. The food was still great, the atmosphere friendly and the prices very reasonable.

After a long journey by car from Birmingham how nice was it to be so nicely welcome with a delicious dinner and a lovely room ! All the members of the staff are really kind and helpful, the also have good advices about the visits to do in the region. The traditionnal breakfast was also really good. We higly recommend ! It was clearly the best way to start our holidays !

Called in for a light lunch. Greeted by a delightful young lady and a friendly ambience. Well lit log burner and a cosy atmosphere. Food was lovely and fresh. Plenty of parking. Very clean. Will definitely visit again.

I visited the Greenhead Hotel Restaurant for dinner with my brother. The food and beer were very good. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and the staff are friendly and efficient.

My wife & I visited the Greenhead last week for lunch & were very pleased with the experience.

Stayed at the hotel for only one night, but had a nice time. The people who run the hotel were friendly and courteous. Only had breakfast, but it was beautifully cooked and set us up for the day ahead. I would stay here again, if the opportunity arose.

Situated just off the busy A69 and near Hadrian's Wall, The Greenhead hotel is a friendly pub serving local beers with a reasonable choice of food for lunch and in the evening.

Nine of us went for dinner at this pub tonight and each and every one of us were very very impressed. The staff were lovely really friendly but professional and the food was gorgeous. We had a mixture of steak, vegetable curry, Cajun chicken burger and gammon as well as children’s food. The portions were huge. And so tasty, if you fancy really well served well cooked pub food then come here x

Popped into the Greenhead after a trip to Carlisle. And weren't we lucky! The night was Pizza night. A pizza oven outside the premises, pizza's cooked to order....and what a pizza. Thin, crispy, full of flavour. Very very nice. Veggie, hot n spicy, traditional, meaty options....they were all there. Additional toppings available too. Washed down with extremely well presented and very tasty local ales. Just off the beaten track but easy to access. Very happy with our evening. Tuesday's in July are 'Taste it Tuesdays'. We feel the need to return. Thanks to all.....we were made very welcome.

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to Hadrians Wall, and in particular the iconic Sycamore Gap. We spent two nights at the Greenhead Hotel in March 2018. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was large, warm and clean and the food at the hotel was lovely. We had a full English breakfast both mornings as well as eating our evening meals in the cozy bar. I'd definitely go back to this hotel if we decided to go back to the area in the future.

Ate here twice, first night was Cumberland Sausage with mash, plus and fish and chips all tasty and generous portions.

Popped in on the off chance as no where else served food before 6pm.

we stopped in after visiting the Gilsand show parking at rear of place went in and asked for table was shown to table then told to look at specials board as that's were menu was for sunday lunch after choosing what to have it arrived not to big and not to small of a meal the food was good service good aswell was quite a nice meal its worth a visit if your nearby

We called in here while passing by and had a very nice Sunday lunch. The portions were good and the food was delivered quite quickly. The kids meals were nice too. We would call in again if in the area.

As part of a charity coast to coast walk we had an evening meal here. The staff welcomed us in and made us feel better after a hard days walking.The food was good traditional grub which was needed!The staff were excellent and looked after us. A truly wonderful pub.

Called in on way back from Hadrians wall having not eaten much lunch. We were greeted by a warm welcome and lots of lovely food to choose from. I had been looking forward to a recommended dish but due to new owners it was not available. Not to worry after our lunchtime experience nothing was going to perturb me from having a lovely family meal.

stayed here on way to scotland, gave short notice of our stay but was given a warm welcome,,,i found the rooms ok but my lady found dust etc so more attention req in the cleaning, the evening meal was excellent ,,,but proper sauce would be better than satchets,, the staff were very freindley as were the locals in all a very pleasant stay. home from home,we will be back in the year for a longer stay ,,,looking forward to the breakfast again ,,

We had a very pleasant dinner and a really good breakfast - both quite simple but generous and freshly cooked. The only slight disappointment was the excellent home made treacle tart, which would have been wonderful warm but was served fridge cold and therefore rock hard.

This is the second visit and did not disappoint. We ordered food and were advised that the kitchen was busy but the wait was no longer than anywhere else. The food is outstanding. Steak pie, fish and chips and salmon were all top class. The portions are a very good size with great value for money.

We didn't stay here but eat here one evening whilst walking Hadrian’s Wall. The bar/restaurant was busy with a mixture of locals and walkers/cyclists. There is plenty to choose from on the menu as well as a number of daily specials. My wife chose the lamb shank and I had the steak both of which were good. The atmosphere was friendly and the service good with a fair choice of beers and wines.

Great food, didn't stay but eat here on Wednesday, and returned for an equally good Sunday Lunch, the beer was just as good

Unfortunately our young waitress who was very polite having served me the last available Gammon I think went home and we were left alone with no further service.The other waiting staff in the restaurant.Having finished our food we left the restaurant and went to pay at the bar. When asked if everything was ok by the licensee it was easier to say yes.The food was average and the service was poor but it was a midweek pub meal.

Average food, I had chicken and leek pie and husband had chicken with bbq sauce. Chips were like chip shop chips and not the best and the choice of veg (swede) was a bit strange.The room we were in was also extremely warm (and made it a very uncomfortable meal) even though it wasn't a particulary warm day. Kids meals were nice and decent portion size.

Excellent value food and drink. Pleasant staff. Excellent portion size,didn't have room for a pudding but I'm sure it would have been lovely.

A big party of us didn't phase them in the slightest and we hadn't pre-ordered. Friendly service and quick too considering the size of the party. Huge portions of very nice food. A very warm night but we were kept cool with the fans over our heads. Good value for money all round.

The people were friendly, accommodating, and genuine. The food was good, and the ales were fine. We liked it so much we went there twice before continuing the wall walk. It is a great place for locals, couples, families, friends, business, or solo.

We were walking part of Hadrian's Wall going east from Gilsland, and stopped at the Greenhead Hotel for a very nice lunch (sandwiches and tea) and a welcome bathroom break. Everyone was pleasant and helpful and the dining room is beautiful.

Great place to go if you are staying in the area on holiday (as we were), walking the Roman Wall, or driving between Newcastle and Carlisle. Warm and friendly - wide range of food, you can eat it in either the dining room or the bar.Ended up eating there three times in the week we were in the area.

We walked from Holmhead Guest House to the Greenhead hotel for tea between two 40K walking days along the wall. The food was amazing (we both had chicken and leek pie with a few pints of cider) and the service was perfect. It was nicely busy and had a lovely atmosphere. Great location for anyone staying in Greenhead or surrounding areas.

My partner and i popped in last month on a saturday afternoon run out in the car. We got in and the bar staff was so friendly and helpful, also their was a small band in singing live which again was not loud and just nice in the background, my partner is very fussy with food and they accommodated that.....we were both very happy with the service and the food was ll homemade which was a bonus. i would highly recommend this nice village pub to anyone.

We visit west Northumberland once or twice a year and use the Greenhead Hotel as a place to meet friends who live near Carlisle. Before our visit this year, we had heard that the place was under new management and wondered if this would affect things. We were happy to find that the food, drink and service were all as good as ever and we had a very enjoyable evening. This is a great place for good pub meals served in generous portions.

I have eaten here on a number of occasions and always try something different. Everything is amazing. The best nights are when they have black pudding mash on the specials.

Excellent food, including the specials board, excellent service and the staff are incredibly friendly. Good selection of real ales. Busy on a Saturday night including locals. Bathroom clean and well stocked.

Found the pub by accident when travelling from Lake District to Newcastle via Hadrian's Wall. Only just off the A69.Had Steak & Ale pie and Roast Beef; both were of excellent quality and very big. Staff were very helpful and lovely and service was quick.Will definitely be back when in the area and recommending to family who live in the North.

Very friendly staff and amazingly quick service. Menu is typical pub food but the difference is that, unlike many, the quality is excellent and the portions are extremely generous. Very enjoyable meal after a long walk along the wall.

In an unexpected location, here is an excellent place for bar food, at least... three of us ordered completely different dishes at lunchtime, and all arrived in good time, perfectly.The steak & ale pie had the classic thin crust pastry and perfect local meat; all 3 dishes perfectly presented.Good though short selection of puddings.For residents, the dining room at the back looked inviting and smart.On winter evenings, the open fire in the bar area looks as though it would be a great place to end a days walking on the wall.

We'd not eaten here since the place changed hands last year, but the food we had last week was excellent. I can also vouch for the friendly bar staff, the real ale variety and the rooms (my mother in law stayed here recently). Would recommend if you're in the area walking the wall

We dined here in October 2014 and found the food simple but extremely good. It was nice to be surprised by the quality of the food and you got what you expected. The atmosphere was one of a local pub and it was nice to share that experience. Costs were reasonable and we would recommend to anyone who likes a good solid and simple home cooking with a touch of class menu .

Greenhead Hotel Restaurant was a short walk from a beautiful camping barn. We went there three nights. Two for cider and dessert and one for a huge meal. They set up a long table for our group of 13 people and with at least three people waiting on us, the service, as in the pub, was superlative. After the evening crowd thinned, the bar tender took time to educate our group on a variety of local ciders and ales.

Enjoyed dinner and several nights in the pub. Friendly and welcoming staff, good food, good selection of ales and ciders.

Lovely staff. Perfect fresh trout. Nice pies. And... a totally accidental culinary discovery: the local Golden Cocker Beer which they have on tap goes well with Bayley's Cheesecake... seriously, it tastes of mango. Also, Golden Cocker Beer makes Old Speckled Hen ale taste of caramel. The beer is good by itself, too ;)

Friendly staff, free WiFi and you don't feel too awkward on your own (useful if you're walking the Wall). Had the lasagne - very generous portion, very good pub-level quality.

called in on our way home because of its good reviews but we were very dissapointed,we walked into the bar only to be totally ignored by the three staff who were having there collective moan about the boss.we found a table and sat down ,the conversation continued so i eventually went to the bar and asked for drinks and a menu,could you believe it they had lost the coffee ?i had cumberland sausage egg and chips and my wife had fish and chips,the sausage looked like it had been cooked in a deep pan frier and so did the solid egg it was a very poor meal.

We were staying in the area at a guest house that did not provide evening meals, so we called at the Greenhead Hotel and fortunately there was a spare table. There appeared to be only one waitress on duty, who was incredibly busy looking after about 30 diners. The service was slow, and when the food came it was average.

I had steak and ale pie with chips and veg. Later on I also had thunder and lightning ice cream. They had to be the best chips I've had in a while and they served a massive slice of pie that was lovely. You got big portions of veg too and friendly service happy to help. Ice cream was gorgeous nicest flavour I've ever had and if your wondering thunder and lighting flavour ice cream is a mix of vanilla , chocolate and caramel with cinder toffee chunks sprinkled inside; it had to be the definition of perfection. Was full after but worth it!

The hotel managed to fit a party of 11 in for Sunday lunch. The staff were great, the portions excellent and the food good.

I first ate at this restaurant in May 2011 when staying at a nearby B&B. Since then I have been back on 4 occasions with my partner when staying near Haltwhistle as it is a convenient location for us to meet friends who live near Carlisle. Our most recent visit was in May 2014. We have all enjoyed good food & good service on each visit. The steak pie & sticky toffee pudding are particular favourites! It does get busy so we always make sure that we book in advance.

We were surprised at the fairly complete menu and quality of the food at this typical "British Pub" hotel restaurant. Nothing remarkable from the outside, but lots of specials to choose from along with an extensive regular menu and excellent service that makes me wish I lived closer. Homemade leek and sweet potato soup was subtly spiced and perfectly prepared, creamy but not too thick, served in a large bowl with fresh baked bread. We could have stopped there, but it was so good we shared a black pudding and haggis luncheon entreé. It was served with fresh salad, a choice of dressings, and a divine creamy mustard sauce that left us completely satisfied - no need for a dessert at all. With a couple of pints of beer, we still paid just over £20 - a real bargain and did I mention delicious?

Out with the parents and live nearby always past but was a bit unsure about eating there as it did not seem to attractive from outside. But once in very friendly and helpful. We had brie to start, was homemade not like most places. Then roast beef again all homemade. Dad had the fish and chips again homemade chips which you definitely dont get much anymore. Only regret I had is that I didn't have room for a sweet. Definitely going back here for a meal. Just glad this good home cooked food is on my doorstep

Three of us had gammon and one roast beef. Followed by 3 sticky toffee pudding and one sundae. Really hot tasty food and lots of it. Desserts were yummy.

We arrived about 8pm on Sat 10 April 2014. The restaurant was very busy but we were welcomed and did not wait long before a table was available.The food was good quality, home made , and delicious. Service was good and the atmosphere was lovely.Our bill was around £23 for 2, which is excellent value.Thanks, I will definitely be visiting again.

I arrived at the Greenhead unannounced on a Bank Holiday Monday, as it had been recommended by the B&B I was booked into for the night. Despite being very busy, the landlord made every effort to find me a table, and the service was quick and efficient. The meal was good, and excellent value for money - I only wish I'd had room for pudding! Thanks for a great evening.

Came through for evening meal, food was spot on, generous portions of very well cooked food. Medium rare steak was cooked perfectly, service was fantastic couldn't ask for more!

The perfect end to a day walking in Hadrian's wall. We arrived late to our reservation, almost at closing time, but the staff was super friendly and patient. Food was amazingly abundant and fresh, everything was delicious. The steak & ale pie was superb, and the trout -just perfect! Jeff from the bar made us feel at home and took care of us all night -who says English are not warm people? :)

We live in the area and visit "The Greenhead" regularly. The staff are very friendly and the food 'simply the best'. Try the homemade lasagne - delicious

We had eaten here before, but not recently, so we decided to try the Christmas menu the other night and it was one of the best meals we've had. For pub food, I don't think you can beat it! And the prices are reasonable too. We call in regularly for a drink and find the staff very welcoming and friendly, the bar is cosy with a real fire and the beer is good! We haven't stayed here as we live locally but I hear the rooms are very nice. Food is served all day and I would recommend it to anyone, the only slight drawback is that dogs aren't allowed in.

My friends and I ended up here after a day of hiking. We made a reservation for 3 rooms in the hotel. It was early July and, yes, the weather was cold, but it was very cold in the rooms. 1 bathroom with no shower was not easy for all of us to get clean and warm up.Personally I like it when the beds are a bit harder, but this was was not very comfortable for me, way too soft.The food in the pub was very good. We all had different dishes and nobody had anything to say about quality of speed of delivery. The breakfast next day was as good as it could be. Traditional English breakfast was big and there was loads of other things to eat.I will definitely come bacdk when the weather is warmer.

Dropped in knowing nothing about the place after visiting Hadrian's Wall. Nice appearance and service. The menu was good, but the food surpassed our expectations. Had a wonderful mushroom & bacon baguette! Very pleasant experience.

We called here on a very busy Saturday evening it was really busy but we were seen to straight away. We had to wait 5 minutes for a table as the bar was full & they also had a large group in the back but it was well worth our wait. The food didn't take long maybe 25 minutes & it was very good, the atmosphere was good and the service. All in all a very good meal, would definitely recommend it.

Stopped here on way to Scotland, spotlessly clean pub, fabulous service and the food was fresh, tasty and the roast beef highly recommended. Like my Gran used to make. Would certainly go back if over that way for Sunday lunch. Very accommodating.
