I recently met a friend at nearby Penrhys Park where the children played for around two hours. The Park was absolutely beautiful with lovely views down the valley. Whilst there my friend suggested going to the Greenfield Pub in Ystrad for dinner. On arrival we received a warm welcome from the staff and there was plenty of distance between the tables. There was a great menu which included home made corned beef pie, chicken curry, Mexican chicken, mixed grill and hunters chicken. We both ordered a small burger with chips and salad, and the children had sausage and chips. The food arrived quickly, was very tasty and great value for money. We are hoping to come back soon with our families to try the 2 course Sunday roast dinner. Next time we come to Ystrad we are going to visit the Park near the leisure centre which is suitable for young children. On the way home I popped into Dunnings Plaice (chip shop) literally down the road from the pub and ordered a large fish and chips for my partner. The food was cooked fresh to order and was also great value for money.

booked a table for 2 midday for lunch. Good examples of cleanliness and safe distances through out the premises, Fantastic main meal each followed by two lovely desserts. Staff very pleasant and attentive. We will return but it will have to be after lockdown unfortunately.

Went to the Greenfield for Sunday lunch (first time this year!!). It was fabulous, the food was tasty, plenty of it and cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and helpful, we will certainly return. Would highly recommend

We have always visited the greenfield. It is a lovely and homely place with great food and fair prices. We visited as soon as they opened after covid and it did not disappoint. The food was lovely and I can honestly say they are taking covid very seriously. I did not feel at risk at all. Social distancing was maintained at all times, plenty of room to breath and feel comfortable. All staff wore masks and kept their distance. A great experience and will defo go back.

There is plenty to choose from on the menu and the portion sizes are good. The food is fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

Lovely friendly pub ..have had better meals there ,we were the last order of the night and it reflected on the meal ,been numerous times before and the food has been top class ,but sadly on this occasion it wasn’t up to their usual standard .

This place is awful don't waste your money going there it's called the graveyard for the right reasons the staff very unfriendly food awful basically a dump .

Attended for lunch,appears to have a bar meals and restaurant we booked a table in bar areaThe pub was very clean and temperature was comfortable there where a few people having Christmas party however this added to the festivities and tables where prettily set with crackers.There was a choice of Christmas dinner or bar meals the food was of a high standard the chicken was proper chicken fillets and chips where lovely. My friend had set potatoes and they where lovely.The dessert was lovely good choice of food and arrived hot and well presented.The staff where warm and approachable there was one lady eating by her self it was sort of pub where you could leave alone and feel comfortable.When paying manager asked if everything was fine which it was.I would definitely go again and recommend the venue but book first to avoid disappointment fabulous food fabulous staff and reasonably.

Great menu, great prices, generous portions We never tire of eating here. Try the black Welsh beef madras curry with yellow rice. [ i do not like chips] Recomended highly

V nice food in a pleasant atmosphere. When busy there can be a bit of delay in getting food, but it is always hot. The cow pie is lovely!

Visit this restaurant often for lunch or early evening. Basic pub menu which is served with a smile and good value for money.

The waiter was quite rude without any people skills. When our food arrived, the chips were hard, I was unable to give them to my daughter as she would probably cut her mouth on them. The chicken was quite overcooked on one side also making it hard. The young girl who spoke to us upon arrival was very unwelcoming and rude. Yes it was busy but you shouldn’t overbook if you can’t cope. Also employ some staff who understand customer service. I wouldn’t say it’s good value for money, the quality isn’t the best for what you pay for.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Greenfield. Food was amazing and everyone was 110% satisfied here

We visited here 2 weeks ago, not booked until last minute but they happily accommodated us. A great big smile to welcome us, the food was excellent - basic Sunday lunch, nothing fancy...just what we wanted. The waiting staff were great too, friendly, polite.... a real must go to pub. Well done all of you!

Lovely food but the service was terrible. Two of the waitresses had no idea on how to wait a table..... This will have to be rectified before I will go to this establishment again

The variety of the lunchtime menu was perfect for us while sitting out in the best beer garden in the Rhondda! All freshly baked and service with a smile!

What a fab place, always full but as there was only two of us we were lucky to get a table. Quick service, fresh food and delicious. Desserts were amazing, especially the Lemon Cheesecake 😍

Visited the restaurant and pub a few times and had fantastic food. Recently visited for family meal and had a cow pie which is to die for I also love how good the staff look after us thanks again and will be back soon

Had many a meal at this place and cant fault it. Sadly, my 1st Sunday dinner wasn't much to shout about. Not enough gravy to go around. 5 small potatoes between 3 of us. Had to ask and wait for more gravy and cranberry sauce. No Yorkshire, no cauliflower cheese, no parsnips. Just over boiled potatoes, carrots, Swede. Small amount of peas and cabbage. I was really disappointed.

Fourteen family members visited this venue after booking in advance. Much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. After placing our order all 14 of us were served at the same time with different meals. The food was out of this world for a local venue in the valley. The portions were more than generous.The service was first class and very friendly. Can't wait to go there again soon. Advance booking is a must.

We arrived about 1.30pm on a Sunday and asked if there was a table for two. It was busy but we were quickly seated. A waitress brought clean cutlery to the table and took out order from the Sunday menu. Beef Sunday dinner and lamb shank with a dinner. We did wait a little while for our food, a number of staff asked had we ordered. When the food arrived we had carrots, cabbage, swede, peas and potatoes for two in tourines. The vegetables were hot and tasty and it was plenty for two. The lamb fell of the bone beautifully and the beef was nice. There was plenty of gravy. I could hear other tables asking for more vegetables and gravy which was brought to their table. We paid £21. Although we didn't have time for a dessert there was plenty of tempting choices for another time.

Great service and fantastic food. Made our entire group feel welcome. An absolute pleasure and can't wait to go back again.

Lovely place to go for food, i ordered the chicken tikka curry served with homemade chips and rice and was very nice, the service was amazing and friendly. Amazing prices! I will definitely be making a return soon!

Not many local pubs with the same standard of quality food at great prices! So much choice and a lovely welcoming atmosphere!

Food served fast in clean surroundings,only place I would eat in the Rhondda,the lay out has changed since the 80's last time was in this pub .

We go here quite regularly, it's on our doorstep, good food, quick service and excellent value for money, only downside is it can be a bit noisy.

Following a friend's recommendation, I went to The Greenfield for a Sunday roast. I got there after the official serving time. The staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. They took my request, got me a seat and sorted it very quickly. I had a roast beef dinner. It arrived quickly with the vegetables. Great sized portions of everything. It was all cooked exceedingly well and I thought it was delicious. I cleaned my plate in good order enjoying every mouthful. This will not be last visit for certain. I highly recommend The Greenfield. Well done.

Lovely meal Saturday afternoon with a last minute booking. Really lucky to get in. Had light bites meal but was more than enough. Fabulous value for money

Myself and my friend made a visit to the greenfield recently and i must say the food was absolutely perfect! No just the mains but the starters too! The steak was to die for!

This pub has the best food and service in all the valleys, the beer garden decking out front is one of the best around. It's a sun trap out there and when it's sunny you feel like your in Spain. Great place to have a meal and drink ...

We visited The Greenfield on Thursday 24th May.

Have been coming here for years, the food is always great and good value for money. Very generous portion sizes. Always a good range of desserts. Sunday lunch is also delicious!

Travelling from Bridgend to brecon we decided to go through the valleys. So glad we did. After looking at places to stop for early evening meal we read reviews on decided to stop here. I rang the day before and was advised to book. We arrived for 5.30. And it was already getting busy. So booking is advisable. It is quite bike inside and staff welcoming and friendly. Food was quick to order and arrived in good time. Wow. The food was tremendous and the portion sizes are some of the biggest I’ve had. Unfortunately not knowing this I ordered extra oration of mushrooms and chip for us. It was a struggle to eat We ordered the salmon on rice with a huge salad. And the 7 oz steak on bed of onions and peppers covered in cheese and peppercorn sauce. The meals were beautiful . We will definitely return. Had a nice conversation with the lady owner. Thank you all.

I've been to this pub and eaten really good meals with excellent service, however, tonight's family meal was pretty poor. After sitting at the table for about 10 mins, we totally ignored by a waitress who walk past us even after we called her. I then had to go to the bar to order our food. Which was two steaks, one we'll done with pepper corn sauce and the other medium with just chips. When the food arrived the plain steak was well done and the other one with pepper corn sauce was medium. They were sent back. The well done steak came back with in minutes with the cheese hard and the medium steak took another 10 minutes to arrive and when it did it to was well done. This is normally a very good place to eat but tonight was extremely poor.

Finally managed to eat there after a few tries, as it’s so popular. The decor is a little tired, but food is more important, of course.

Visited again today to see if service had improved since my last review.

Just back from going here for a meal for my mothers birthday. Place was very busy especially for a monday night and we was lucky to get a table. Great extensive menu all the favourite meals with one or two suprise s and good selection of homemade dishes . Good waitress service and nice atmosphere . Food was great and excellent proper chips , big portion size and very reasonable prices. Will definitely be returning really enjoyed.

This is still my local even though I left home 40 years ago. I grew up as a drinker here. I have never eaten here though my family say it is very good. My favourite thing about this old pub is the quiz every Sunday night - 40 years and going strong - and the characters who still use the place. If you ate in the area and hungry - call in.

Visited recently after a week of being "snowed in" Just had a main course- the home made cow pie. Lovely food, excellent portions and friendly staff. Haven't been here a lot as this is quite local for us. Well satisfied will use again. Prices reasonable too!

Have been to the Greenfield a few times and it has always been fine. Booked over 2 weeks ago for my mother’s 85th Birthday for 8 of us. When we arrived we were given a table that wasn’t big enough for 8, then moved to a table underneath a television on full blast. I brought a birthday cake with me which was a surprise for my mother. We ordered our food after being told we would have to vacate our table by 6.45. At 6 o’ clock while waiting for our food they brought my mothers cake out and took it to another table where it was left for the other people to blow out the candles. They were a group of young girls - the cake had MAM written on it! I was furious they blamed it on a polish girl in the kitchen! After telling them they had given our cake to the wrong table the waitress asked if we wanted it now! I told her no and that we were still waiting for our food! A lady from behind the bar came over and apologised and said she would refund the cost of the cake sand then said they would move us to yet another table and we could stay until 7.30. What an utter shambles, food eaten and back home by 7.15 and no birthday cake for my mother. So disappointed for her and the way we were treated.

Food as always was excellent, unfortunately today’s visit was ruined by indifferent service.

Attended a small wedding here and had the best Sunday lunch out in a very long time, food was hot, meat was delicious and plenty of vegetables and Gravy.. Staff were wonderful and could not do enough for you.

Visited with family fab place all done out great atmosphere meals were delicious very filling booked again in January , worth a visit .

Large group of friends accomodated, need to book ahead, everything right bar my order wanted wedhes instead of chips but no worries. The Burger was huge really nice meal how I found room for the Oreo Cheesecake was a miracle.

Popped in last week for lunch, 3 of us and a baby. Had a change of table to have more room with baby. Lovely food as usual, love the chicken tikka masala and my friends' food looked really nice too,lasagne and chicken. Been here twice before for just a regular Lunch, both times were lovely, no complaints... Sunday Lunch however, (we had heard lots of good stories) we were served as soon as we were seated, luke warm veg served in cold turines, lots of it was wasted, dry slices of Turkey, soggy stuffing and don't get me started with the yorkshire pudding, I couldn't even cut it with a knife let alone eat it with my dentures, why these places can't make their own Yorkshires I don't know, also spotted leftover Yorkshires on plates around the dining room, I will return for a 'normal' meal but never again for Sunday Lunch.

Delicious Sunday lunch with my husband today. We had roast beef and turkey. Lovely vegetables, cooked perfectly & homemade gravy. The staff were helpful, friendly and polite. We will definitely be back soon!

Being from The Rhondda,driven passed this pub many times but never been in & always wanted to,so glad we did go here.It was a nice afternoon meal & have to say the food was really lovely.My kids 13 & 9(it was for his Birthday)& their Nan really enjoyed the food with the kids having Gammon & Beer Battered Fish & myself & mother having a steak which were all cooked lovely,with the best chips had in a pub for a very long time.Also the Gammon was definitely the best I've tasted also so highly recommend the Gammon.The waitresses & waiters were a real credit to the place,very polite people they are.So glad we went here & will definitely be returning!!I think though it's best to phone ahead to book.Thanks for a lovely meal.

I can honestly say after many many years of coming to this place I have never had a bad meal. I have tried and tested most meals on the menu over these years ranging from the curries, to the steak and fish and every meal has been spot on, I have even requested the recipe for one of the curries as I crave it all the time! It is beyond me that some people have rated it so low. The staff here are amazing, so friendly and welcoming and it's a recurrence on every visit; quite a rarity I have found at other restaurants. Only downfall I can say is that recently I cannot book in as they're always fully booked!! I have to say this as it's important for so many people...I have 3 children and as all parents would understand going to restaurants can be a right pain especially trying to get your kids to sit right for 2 hours, but here they are so understanding and laid back and are fab when it come to children. This place is as child/family friendly as they come. Keep up the fab work! I am now going to book myself a table as all this writing has got me craving that Thai curry

Food was cooked to the perfect temperature and tasted home made- especially liked the individual gravy boats.One small point- we were asked several times if we had ordered- which makes s change from some establishments when you're kept waiting ...The waiting staff were polite and the service was prompt .If you're looking for good home cooked tasty food with good service within a restaurant with a familiar atmosphere- this won't disappoint.Would we come again? What can I say friendly faces. Good beer excellant food 1 complaint it was way to much food quality and quantity so rare these days we all enjoyed a lovely night and wasnt rushed out we stayed there all night will certainly be going again

Eaten here for donkeys years and it has got better and better each year, real chips, lots of homemade dishes just like mam used to make, some better (dont tell mam). the burger selection is great for a local pub and i love burgers, tons of curries and the steaks are now all Welsh reared and matured, few teething problems for a few weeks with new menu that reflects in some reviews but when big changes are made you have to be patient till they get everything working spot on...which they have. will be eating here again soon! for those interested I noticed the vegan/ vegetarian range has grown and now some Gluten free options including desserts!

Lush family run pub with a brilliant variety on the menu...so there is something for everyone! Beautiful desserts with even more specials... My wife had the mushroom lasagne, I had the chicken burger. We thought the food was extremely good and excellent value for money. The tables were clean we will definitely eat here again. Food was hot, fresh and plentiful.

Kick off with the downside! Parking is an issue as it's on a main road and I did feel the table was a bit small! BUT!The food makes it worthwhile! My steak was perfectly cooked and every dish we had was hot and freshly prepared! Dessert was also really good! Gorra mention our waitress too! She was excellent! Well done guys!

Came here for my mother's 50th Birthday party. Midweek sat down for food a little busy but there was another birthday party in the restaurant. Ordered starters breaded mushrooms and a chicken Naan. Mushroom dish was reasonably priced for what you got. The chicken Naan was a little overpriced for the portion. Very Tasty but small wished there was more. As for main meals we had 2 Mexican burgers 8oz with bacon these were very tasty and highly recommend very well priced. Also had hunters chicken with wedges very nice meal and plenty of if it. We also had Chicken breast with jacket potato this was tasty and plenty of it. Overall a good place for food and the main meals are filling.

We visited as a party of 10, including children. The bar area was very busy, not surprising for a Saturday night. It took a while to get served drinks. We were ordered our meals reasonably quickly and they arrived within 30 minutes, although there was a delay between the first and last meals coming from the kitchen. The portions were a good size and they served 'real chips'. The steak was a little chewy and burger a little over done, but the other meals served were pleasant enough. All the staff were pleasant and asked if we were satisfied with our meals.All in all it was a nice but average meal and the venue was a bit too noisy and crowded but this is to be expected on a Saturday evening.

I got introduced to this place by my partner who regularly attends. And it does not disappoint a welcome as close as a family everytime on arrival, food and general service always provided with a smile and comforting banter. Recommend to book for not just special occasions but midweek specials da iawn.

Change of menu and attitude to children's needs was poor. On a previous visit they offered a smaller version of an adults meal; suitable for older children. On this visit we were told no, no and no again.Last visit.

Sunday lunch is plentiful and delicious as well as extremely reasonable. Evening meals are great too. Good menu choice. If you are there on a Saturday a cabaret starts around 9-9.30. Good night out.

Burger tasted like it had been sitting in Greece for hours, ordered slimming world chips that tasted like LARD. Awful experience. AVOID!

Booked this for a Sunday lunch for a special Birthday. Arrived a little early for a 1:30 booking so we were asked to take a seat. At about 1:45 we were noticed by someone behind the bar who told a waiter to prepare a table in the corner of the bar (Remember we had made a booking). About 2:00 pm we were told our table was ready (hooray ). When we got to table we had to squash 6 people on two benches. After another 10 minutes a waitress came and took our order, the food in fairness came quite quickly. We had all finished our meals and there was no sign of anyone coming to serve our table, then we managed to attract a waitresses attention and called for the bill. ( people in our party had wanted desert but did not fancy the wait)

Lovely food in the greenfield. Can't go wrong. Lovely atmosphere here as well. Nice for a family day out.

Recently visited with friends. Had to wait a long time to have order taken - but it is the run up to Christmas and they were busy so overlooked that. Went to bar to order drinks and the tall older lady serving was on the other side of bar and did not come to take order despite seeing me waiting. She served several people who arrived at the counter after me and at no time showed me any attention. Very rude. However, a younger lady, who was also waiting tables took my order. She was very pleasant and helpful unlike the older employee. Food was very average. I had the rump steak but it contained a large amount of gristle. I would not have this meal again. All in all - an under average experience which was raised to average solely because of the attentiveness of the younger waitress.

The meals are quite varied and of good quality,Sunday dinners are a must and appetising with a variety of deserts.Alcoholic beverages lager and soft drinks,tea and coffee,are also on the menu.It is advisable to book as it gets busy on weekends,hope you find this useful.

A decent local, extremely busy with friendly staff. Decent beer choice. Have live music most weekends, although a bit loud for my taste (struggled to converse to my friends). Didn't manage to eat as they were fully booked but food looked decent.

Very short wait from ordering to receiving our food, staff were very nice and cheerful. Food was good, though chips were slightly undercooked but were ok, cow pie was generously filled with beef and was very nice, well worth a visit, will go again in future.
