What a find in the centre of Newark right by Market Place! Mediterranean café. Breakfast/Brunch today with definite Greek influence - full breakfast including delicious peppers and little pot of butterbeans in tasty tomato sauce, meaty continental style sausage and good quality bacon with mushrooms and choice of eggs and buttered toast; many other smaller breakfast options (equally delicious) for the smaller appetite. Good quality coffee (including decaffeinated). Friendly service. Cosy atmosphere.

Treated my teenage daughter to brunch here and the food is excellent. I marked them down one star because we was charged for condiments and in my opinion a small portion of ketchup should be complimentary. Also decor is tired, wallpaper peeling off the walls.

Thanks very much for lovely food, friendliness and looking after us really well yesterday for a birthday celebration. Staff kept us feeling relaxed despite our wide range of arrival times after train delays, storms and road works, and our rather haphazard food ordering! I'll be back whenever in Newark.

Gorgeous little cafe in the heart of Newark, great service, great atmosphere and some good gluten free options! Had the stifado (beef stew) and took a GF cannoli pastry to go, both of which were absolutely beautiful. Would definitely recommend for GF and non-GF and will be returning in the future. Bonus point for being dog friendly!

I really have to question some of the negative reviews on this site concerning this establishment! Went today with family and had a great experience right from walking in the door to leaving. 2 of us had the leek and potato soup and it was thick and delicious, perfectly seasoned and hot, served with lovely fresh toasted bread, just what you need when it's only 3 degrees outside. Another member of our party had the Chicken and Bacon sandwich and it was well filled on fresh crusty bread. Tea's and coffees were also very good. The service was friendly and very efficient and the price point was excellent. My family use this cafe quite often and have never had a complaint about anything.

Very friendly pleasant staff and good location close to the castle. Unfortunately the leek and potato soup was the worst I've ever had. Very watery and bland. No seasoning on the table either. Ordered leek and potato soup and was disappointed. No flavour and what looked like cheap sliced bread as accompaniment. Informed staff and attitude was awful. Just wouldn't accept it was bland and tasteless. Both my girlfriend and I said the same. Dark green warm tasteless stuff. Manageress particularly obnoxious when she suggested I had a cold. Not much to say about really other than the place is disgusting. I had to wait a long time for my food and I don’t think it’s freshly prepared at all as the menus implies. And the salad my god I didn’t realise that hair was now apart of it. The way the managers speak to the staff also is down right disrespectful especially when the staff look very young and this could be their first job. The place also needs a lot of cleaning I would recommend hiring a professional for this as apparently they are incapable to do it properly themselves. The menu itself is all over the place and isn’t very authentic. Definitely would not recommend here at all if you value your health and wellbeing and if you respect yourself enough.

The bacon looked raw and the sausages tasted sour. there where no salt or pepper and so we asked for some sauce to be told we would have to pay extra. The halloumi salad sounded wonderful on the face of it but the reality was a bowl of limp, lifeless shredded lettuce with a few bits of onion and four tiny pieces of halloumi cheese. They charged an outrageous £8.20 for this and a similar price for my son’s spaghetti and six (tiny) meatballs . To add insult to injury when I went to pay the bill they tried to get an additional 10% out of me dressed up as a ‘service charge’. Needless to say I had no Intension of paying a penny more and certainly won’t be going there again.

The staff don’t seem to know what they are doing, coming back to the table to ask again what our order was. The food was okay but the coffee is the worst we’ve tasted for a long time. We asked for an extra shot each of espresso, which then resulted in comedy of errors with staff going to and from the table… but the espresso did not improve the coffee (pig’s ear and silk purse cliché come to mind). When I went to pay the owner charged us for the espresso!!

We visited the Green Olive Cafe today and were disappointed with its food and service. For the first time in my life I was served a cake that was SO disappointing it proved inedible. Greek Walnut Cake, tasted stale and unpleasant. When I returned to the counter I was told that’s how it’s supposed to be. ( like old cake that was baked three weeks ago at £4.95 a slice). I rarely write reviews and never really complain but I feel disappointed in the quality of the food and service My advice is avoid the Green olive cafe and walk 30 seconds across the road to Costa where the cake is edible.

Overpriced and the staff are unclear of their own menu and food average at best. We had a quick look at the menu and on the board in the premises on the wall we chose a toastie The man serving us asked us if we wanted salad and crisps with it which we asked if it was included he said yes and when the bill came they added £250 on per portion . He obviously didn’t know his own menu and he was fumbling about not sure of anything. The lady came over and said it was on the menu in the book not on the wall The man should have said this when we asked if it was included as we were looking at the board in front of us and hadn’t seen it in the other All in all disappointing with their response and certainly wouldn’t return The food was pretty average and we never got asked what bread we would have wanted either

Came here for the first time for a quick bite before a trip. I was served quickly and the coffee was very tasty and the cake was fresh. I couldn’t pay by card because the Internet was lost and I didn’t have cash with me, unfortunately, and they told me it’s okay, you’ll bring the money in later. Cozy atmosphere, I want to take a closer look at the interior. Of course I will come back here.☺️

called in here today 17-7-21 for a nice cool drink as its one of the hottest days. I usually have black coffee but the wife said have a cold drink. Anything to eat she asked? see what there is.........she came out and said we won't be calling here again, £8.50 for two cans of orange soft drink and a measly slice of cake which was very ordinary and tasteless. Obviously run by people who don't know the meaning of value, more suited to hippy sipping latte drinkers.......was disgusted by what i got for my money, wife stopped me going back inside and asking for my money back. I worked it out the drinks must have been £2.50 a can and the cake £3.....i would avoid it to be honest, go to Greggs instead.
