Always delivers with delicious food. Service is attentive and friendly. The perfect local country pub and my husband loves the Guinness!

Attended for the "Christmas Party Lunch" with friends. I am vegan and had stuffed mushroom, a vegan Wellington and Brownies with ice cream for dessert. Every course was lovely and I enjoyed it all. Service was great.

Had the set lunch menu, which was delicious. The staff are lovely and welcoming. Has a nice atmosphere and has a lovely outside courtyard.

Last night 3/11, Green Man put on Hog Roast and fireworks display and to top it all it was free. I expected to see a few fireworks however we saw a fabulous display. The hog roast was excellent. It was lovely to see so many people turned out to support the occasion, it was a really lovely evening.

We arranged to meet half way between where both set of our friends were staying and we researched this pub and it certainly lived up to our expectations! It was lovely food, great choice, awesome service and would highly recommend.

We came for a family lunch with my brother and sister along with their other halves. There was a very large booking in one of their function rooms together with a lot of passing trade, but this did not detract at all from the excellent service and food. Would thoroughly recommend this place. The food was delicious and the staff were very helpful and efficient too. We combined this lunch with a visit to Greensted Church.

Lovely evening. Really well looked after by the staff, Cathy and Julie, who made us feel so welcome and made the evening so memorable. Food is amazing, restaurant quality food, in a pub. Thanks guys.

Stayed here two nights and eat in pub one night. We were going to a wedding at a venue close by so this was ideal. The room is good size and clean. The pub was friendly welcoming. I have to say, the food in the evening was restaurant quality or well beyond! Good portion size at a fair price and not normal pub grub! If you are visiting one of the local attractions ( yes the secret nuclear bomb shelter caught my eye) this is the place to stay. Unfortunately we could not go to the shelter due to time restrictions, but will attend and stay here another time. Highly recommended!

Such a lovely country pub, the front courtyard is beautiful however what’s with all the mismatch office type furniture. The rear garden faux grass area is an eyesore, thought this was temporary for covid but still there. A lovely pub but needs a bit of a spruce up! Food is ok, would be great to see some healthier and more varied options on the lunch & snack menu. Staff are always lovely and welcoming!

What an excellent place to celebrate/ eat, atmosphere was excellent, staff were very friendly and welcoming. The service was excellent all the food was hot even though there was 14 of us. We would recommend this pub to anyone even if it’s only 2 people. Good variety of food. We will be going back very soon. When we arrived at The Green Man we were greeted by Cathy who was very welcoming and attentive, with a lovely smiley face 😊. We had the 3 course lunch time menu and all 3 courses were delicious and such great value for money. We have just enjoyed an excellent experience at The Green Man, we ordered from the set lunch menu that provided a wide choice and the food was superb. This pub has a friendly and friendly warm atmosphere which caters to all tastes The food is exceptional whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. The staff are helpful and I just would not go anywhere else. Book for Sunday lunch as always packed as it’s so popular

Just stopped for a birthday lunch in our way back from Norfolk. 5 of us plus a dog. Warm welcome from bar staff. Fabulous food - couple of specials and food off the Al a carte. My rating is slightly lower than I would have liked but I didn't feel I could give four stars. The staff were attentive and pleasant. The food was okay. I ordered the Mediterranean Prawns as a starter and my partner the goats cheese tart. I had a rather average roll and butter with the prawns which were really not exceptional either. The goats cheese tart was very filling I understand and again ok. I had the aged sirloin steak with chips and mushrooms/tomatoes. It was a bit tough to be honest and fatty. My partner had fish pie but was so full from the starter he couldn't finish it. Again both meals were okay but not amazing. The bill was slightly eye watering the house wine being £17 which would have been nice to be warned of. The dining area is small but nicely decorated. Would I go again - probably not.

Have to agree with a couple of previous recent comments about The Green Man/Courtyar at Toothill. I used to come here with my parents a long time ago (80's) when is was great. Thought I would take my mum there today for sunday lunch. As sunday, roasts are the order of the day and they do have a good selection: Pork, Lamb, Turkey and beef and actually these were all fine, not amazing but good enough. However the service was really slow which I wouldn't hav eminded so much but we had two very hungary children. There was no efffort or thought on the part of the waitress to perhaps bring their food earlier or to even come and give us an update on when we may receive any food. In fact when I asked her she was slighly agressive in her response saying that Sundays ARE a busy day, like customers are an annoyance to whatever else she might have been doing. I have to say that it did feel like walking on eggshells conversing with her. You might put it down to having a bad day but given her mater of fact response I'm guseesing that this is the mood every sunday. This was not the worse point of the lunch though unfortunately as I can honestly say that the children's food was incredibly poor. Now there are only a few things a pub needs to get right in my opionion and one of the fundementals has to be quality of chips. To say they resembled and tasted like Asda's home brand oven chips would be doing Asda a disfavour. The pizza was a big spongey apology to the world, cheapest of the cheap, celand quality (again probably a dis-serivce to Iceland). Again the roasts were pretty good but I felt the children's food was a rip off. This combined with the passive aggressive service and epic waiting times means that we will definately not be back. Owners of 30 years ago, come back, all is forgiven!

My partner and i recently visited the green man for the first time for a overnight break. I can honestly say it was faultless from the moment we arrived.

We had a lovely meal here the prawn & Crab Cocktail was very good and the Cod & Chips was to die for. The food was so nicely presented and cooked to perfection. The waiter and waitress who looked after us were lovely, nothing was too much trouble.

I had my special birthday here in the function room last Saturday for 30 people . All through the planning they were so accommodating for gluten free options and tweaking the menu to fulfill dietary needs. The room was beautiful and all my friends were so complimentary. The food was delicious and served with a smile. I highly recommend this pub and I am sure my friends will be going there again and I am thinking of booking it again for another occasion. We booked two nights as we were attending a wedding nearby, we had no previous knowledge of the area or the pub. What a lucky find, the room we had was spacious, comfortable and finished to a high level. We checked in, the staff were a delight. Brenda gave my partner a full tour, the daughter (sorry forgot name) happily helped us get taxis booked and the drinks were reasonably priced. In the morning breakfast was full English (as requested) at a time to suit us. The owner was charming, the landlady was equally so and even tried to find some cuff links as I had forgotten mine. On the second day my sister and her husband joined us and were equally delighted with their room and the ambience of the pub. Overall an exceptionally welcoming and delightful place to stay at a very reasonable price. We are already planning our next trip.

Found this place by chance and looked lovely quaint low ceilings and beams staff all lovely polite and accommodating loved the luxury of linen table cloths and napkins but such a shame food didn’t live up to the ambiance created in the restaurant I had trio of fish over cooked and average complained so they reduced our bill but it could have been lovely and then we would have gone back with family or friends but unfortunately we wont be - sorry as the staff were all so nice

I can only describe the ambience, service & food second to none. I find it hard to believe when reading through some of the reviews that the food has no taste! Even if the food wasn’t to your taste I’m positive the chef would accommodate you. Whilst eating we are always asked if everything is ok? Why not speak up? The lunchtime special consisting of 3 courses is great value for money & the portions are huge. I’ve tried many dishes since the new owners have taken over & the fish is phenomenal, the seasoned kebabs with homemade chilli sauce & kofta is also delicious. The homemade bread & butter pudding is Devine. The chef has gone above & beyond with the cleanliness, decor, staff & creating an excellent menu. We are massive foodys therefore I’d recommend this hidden little gem as a rare find!

Absolute joke don't eat here, very overpriced nothing seasoned right and try to charge u on extras they make out to be included. Three dishes all come up tasting of the same odd flavour. Plus nothing comes out like pictures I've seen online stay away for food!

We are so happy that this establishment has been taken over by Mr Lumpti. He is the owner chef, a very humble friendly guy. He is an excellent chef, my wife had an exceptional Dover Sole and I had a superb Roast beef. Brenda, our waitress looked after us really well, she remembered us from two years ago when we were regulars. We have no hesitation in recommending this venue for Sunday lunch and we look forward to trying the weekday offering.

Only live down the road from this pub and feel so glad it’s on our doorstep. This is not the first time eating at The Green Man and have never been disappointed. A vast menu as well as ‘specials’! How do they do it and produce such high quality food. There were eight of us and all meals came at the same time and were exceptionally nice; my lemon sole was delicious and perfectly cooked. We all thought it was high quality, very well presented and the service was very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Very nicely decorated and comfortable surroundings.

We booked for a large family get together and weren't disappointed. The food was good across the board; it was fresh, tasty and was excellent value. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The only reasons for not giving a 5* rating were, they slightly mixed two of the orders (but did fix quickly), and were a little slow offering desserts. All in all, a very good restaurant.

Went there today for lunch with a good friend. The restaurant was absolutely lovely, very good atmosphere, delightful decor and the staff were great. We had the Lunchtime special menu, intending to have just two of the course, but ended up having all three. The food was delicious, served well, the table setting was perfect - nothing like white linen on your table and proper, well-folded napkins. Would thoroughly recommend the bread and butter pudding - even mine is not so good!!

Pub/Bar was very welcoming. Our Room was Superb. With a Big soft. And very welcoming Bed. Plenty of Wardrobe space. Well stocked with Tea/Coffee & Hot Chocolate. Fully Air-Con. Some friends and I decided to book a table for a get together. We definitely shouldn’t have. The staff are rude and inattentive. The food is mediocre at best. Our table was booked for 1.30, we were not shown to our table until 1.50. One of my colleagues is gluten free and vegetarian. She asked the waitress what could she recommend, she was rudely told to pick something from the menu and she would tell her if it was ok for her to have. We ordered some non alcoholic drinks, when they arrived they were flat. The person that we can only assume was the head waitress brought us some new drinks claiming the other ones could not have been flat as they all came from the same place. This however could not have been true and the drinks she now served were indeed fizzy. It took an age to get served and our meals to arrive. My gluten free friend was served a small plate of vegetables. As I had a later appointment and we had waited so long to eat I had to leave before having time for sweet. I feel there is really nothing positive to say about this place.

We visited this restaurant for the first time, after viewing many positive recommendations, but our experience was sadly, totally disappointing. We enjoyed our drink in the bar area however when we were, eventually, taken to our table our experience began to decline rapidly. The list is endless & many are what seem small things but they are all important in the world of hospitality: Our food order, which I’ll come on to later, was taken without offering us drinks, after us asking if we could have drinks the order eventually arrived but incorrect & the cokes were flat. When our drinks were replaced, rather than simply apologising the staff member made an argumentative statement of “they couldn’t have been flat as they’re from bottles” then why were the bottles not brought to the table like when we were in the bar area? I’ll continue, wine glasses not removed as we weren’t drinking wine...wish we could have, had we not all been driving! Then being told to use those wine glasses for our water. No check that our meals were ok, no extra drinks offered, slow service meaning that one of our group had to leave before dessert! However the worse thing was that a member of our group is by choice a vegetarian but not through choice gluten free & unable to eat fish. Normally this involves a bit of assistance from the waiting staff & chefs navigating the menu and putting things together from different meals...not at The Green Man. The same staff member, who we sensed was in charge, was rude, abrupt, unhelpful, patronising & made our friend & all of us feel awkward & uncomfortable. Oh & by the way she was served a side plate...not even a full size plate, of new potatoes & vegetables. The worst we’ve ever experienced! The rest of our meals were mediocre and the inattentive service throughout means that we will not be returning. The sign advertising ‘all staff required’ was an omen as if you treat your paying customers in this manner what must you treat your staff like!

Four of us had a wonderful evening last night. Excellent home made food which was beautifully presented & served by Kayleigh & the team who are very friendly & knowledgable. Highly recommended. We can’t wait to go back to try the Sunday lunch!

Having been just down the road for a Ferrari experience day, we googled restaurants nearby and saw the amazing reviews and booked a table. The lady we spoke to on the phone was so lovely and polite, we turned up a bit late as our day over ran and they didn’t mind at all. The restaurant is very nicely decorated.

This came highly recommend to us and we weren’t disappointed. The food was great as was the staff. Will definitely be going back in the near future.

We have eaten at this pub several times, have previously written a very positive review and have recommended it to our friends. However, tonight’s visit was horrible and almost resulted in a row with the waitress about what was included in the vegetable meze. Despite her assertions to the contrary, she only told me about a couple of the items. I would not have ordered a menu item that included at least three items that I simply would not eat. Her attitude, when I raised this can only be described as rude with a parting shot of ‘well I’ve offered you something else’. There is no excuse for this bad attitude and I doubt that we shall be visiting again.

A friend of mine recommended this place, staff were great the only thing exceeding the staff was the food, I am one fussy and everything was fantastic. I will be going back. Thank you all staff members, your boss should be proud.

We visited The Green Man with friends on the 7th April for Sunday Lunch and were not disappointed in any way. Service, food and choice were all first class and, not having visited the pub for many years, will most definitely be visiting again.
