A real shame as this place used to be good. The roasts were miserable (similar quality to Whetherspoons) and like others had said before, they'd run out of half the food on the menu. This was clearly not due to being busy, but bad management. There was hardly anyone there on a Sunday. I hope they can turn it around, as it will go under if it can't fill up and offer great food on a Sunday.

We booked a table for four at 8pm. We arrived early and waited at the bar to be served. There was no one else waiting we were ignored by two members of staff, if they had acknowledged us we wouldn't have minded so much. We were served after about 10 minutes and taken to a table. We were shown the menu and were told that they had no steak or salmon which left very little choice. We decided to leave and go elsewhere. Shame could be good if properly run Brains Brewery need to get their act together.

Where to begin with this disaster area. The fact that it was nearly empty at Sunday Lunchtime should have been a clue. Four of us had various roasts. Tiny amounts of meat which was cold, vegetables that had been boiled to remove all taste and drinks that were flat. A complete rip off. Followed by Crème Brule which had separated. Truly revolting. Nice toilets though.

I visited on a Friday night expecting the place to be busy but it was strangely quiet - I should have taken this as a sign of things to come. The bar/restaurant look nice enough and its contemporary feel is relaxing; the food however is shocking. We ordered bread and olives to nibble on but they took about half an hour to arrive at the table. The olives were very good as was some of the bread, but we were also served two crusts of what only can be described as Brace's sliced wholemeal. Crusts! For the main we ordered pork loin (or in this case a pork chop). It was a little dry so I asked for more gravy. This arrived and I duly poured it over my meal. Shockingly, when I tasted it, it was actually brown custard! Seriously...if you closed your eyes and smelt the jug you would say custard. I have never returned a meal in my life but I just couldn't eat another mouthful. To be fair the staff were very apologetic and took the meal off the bill. In fact, the waiting staff were very nice - polite and attentive, but they can only serve when and what the kitchen produces. Herein lies the problem. If you look at my other reviews I am not overly critical and will willingly give 4/5 stars if warranted. Sadly it is difficult to give more than a 1 star here. Sorry Grape and Olive, but things will need to improve before I return.

My partner and I visited for lunch today. The lunch time menu looked appealing with 2 courses for £10.95. We both had the chicken, bacon and avocado salad. The chicken was very tough and appeared to have been warmed up (not freshly cooked) and the whole dish was pretty tasteless. We were looking forward to our pudding. I had the apple and rasberry crumble. It was the worst crumble I have ever tasted. I had to cut it with a knife in order to break a piece off. It had definitely been overcooked or warmed up (way too much). My partner had the chocloate brownie which wasn't much better. Overall this place had a very cold welcome and we will not be returning. A waste of money!

Service was slow, they had run out of the salmon and there was a very poor choice for the vegetarian member of our group who ended up with a very small side of chips! No alternative could be offered. I had the beef burger and requested it well done but it was pink in the middle and quite dry, however, it was edible so I did not complain. We ordered deserts and 4 of us wanted the lemon tart but 10 minutes later it turned out that they only had one left. After re-ordering dessert was nice enough. Service was very slow though. Came here recently for a meal with the family, and the food was unfortunately just average. I ordered some pork scratchings and apple sauce which were delicious although possibly a little to crispy for some as my step-dad cut the inside of his mouth on one (I was fine with them). I also had the asparagus and white truffle risotto, the asparagus and risotto was cooked perfectly, however there was no hint of truffle in it! I think the chef forgot to put it in as it neither tasted or smelt at all of truffle. I finished with the sticky toffee pudding, they brought out a giant portion (bigger than I've seen anywhere else) and so my eyes lit up when I saw it, however, it didn't taste as good as it looked as it was overcooked with a slightly burnt taste to the sponge and was dry with not enough sauce. Overall I left feeling a bit disappointed as I've eaten here before and it's usually better, however when feeding back to the waitress, she did inform me that their last head chef ad left and they were currently in their interim waiting for the new head chef to start, so I'm putting my experience down to this temporary blip until I go back

Had a business lunch here one Friday recently. The alarming thing considering the amount of office workers and students in the vacinity was that only one other table was occupied - This may reflect the not great value for money. This 'pub' has become ever so slightly pretentious. Whilst I applaud Brains for trying to turn their hand to fine dining, perhaps they should have stuck to what they are best at; good beer, good food and value for money.Four of us attended and we ordered fish and chips twice, burger and chips and the rissotto. The two of us who had the fish and chips were reasonably satisfied and my colleague who ordered the burger enjoyed it. Again, nice food but nothing really memorable. I feel that I have to comment on the rissotto, absolutely tiny portion and this really epitomises what I feel is wrong with this establishment - value for money is sadly lacking. No reason especially not to go here again but by the same logic no reason to go again either.....

Have been going to the Grape and Olive for almost 7 years and we have never had a bad meal here. Our latest visit was an impromptu mid-week dinner where we both went for the rump steak. It did not disappoint. It was one of the nicest steaks we've ever had - perfectly cooked medium served with crispy shoe string fries we spent most of the meal telling each other how much we were enjoying our meal. The meat is sourced from a partnership of Welsh beef farmers who produce excellent quality meat - this shines through and makes for a lovely texture and flavour to the meat. Service was prompt and friendly and the atmosphere is a just really pleasant and relaxed.

Came here for lunch with friends. I'm not the one for leaving reviews but due to the Trip Advisor posters through out the restaurant advising guests to give feedback here I am. There was only two tables in the restaurant when we sat but when we ordered it took just over an hour for our mains to be delivered to the table. Due to the extremely long wait without anyone updating us on the wait we ordered a bread basket as one of my friends was pregnant, the bread basket ( starter off the menu ) came 20 minutes after we ordered. Once our meals arrived to the table. As we were so hungry at this stage we ate everything even though all of our six mains were not even luke warm. I have to give credit to the chef presentation looked great but floor staff let them down. We were quickly checked during our meal by the rude waitress. We did notify the waitress at this time about our meals which she replied "ill tell the chef" a simple apology would have been the correct start to our feedback. When we had finished our meals we notified who I think was the manager who very rudely ignored us. After we got his attention the second time we did also mentioned to him about our issue and without an apology went and eventually got the bill. We were tired of waiting for the bill so we met the manager at the host desk and when we went to pay he left us and went into the kitchen leaving us standing there because we clearly weren't waiting enough.I won't be in a hurry to return !!!

I called into the grape and olive this afternoon to view their function room as a venue for a family party. due to previous reviews I was expecting it to be a very short viewing and just to tick it off the list. the place has changed a lot since I was last in there, and for the better. its clean and tidy with a nice feeling of space. after asking for some details of the function room we were met by marc the deputy manager, half of the new management team with alan the manager. he could not be more helpful while he answered all our numerous questions regarding the party. while discussing these we explained that we had been very wary after seeing so many negative reviews on tripadvisor. he understood our concerns and explained that it was the aim of the new management team and chef to change this. so I decided to give them a chance. we ordered from their lunch menu. the mains arrived and were fresh hot and very tasty. the desserts were very very good. the staff were polite and very helpful. if this is the improvement in just a couple of weeks I think it will not be long before the ratings will be all 4 or 5 stars.

Only one menu to look at for the 3 of us - they clearly wanted us to choose the set menu for Sunday lunch although the main menu was also available.Lamb was OK but the fish & chips were dreadful. Fish was largely batter and the chips were warmed us 'scraps' from yesterday.Waited ages for someone to remove plates and bring menu for puddings. Eventually went and found someone and asked them to do that. Yet again only one menu given. My daughter had been listening to a neighbouring table trying to order their puddings. As I started to read options to my mother she said 'Oh that's off today' - it seemed that the only choice were the limited options on the set menu.Plates still hadn't been cleared. - asked again for that to happen and for the bill (By this time we had been there for 1 hour and 45 minutes). Two plates cleared but not mine!!Quite dreadful overall which is a shame as the building is pleasant and it's easy to park.

Attended the Grape and Olive on Saturday evening December 20th as part of a large party for our annual work Christmas party. Our room was lovely, it was exclusively ours, it was nicely decorated and we had our own DJ and disco. Sadly the food was terrible, the mushroom starter consisted of one small mushroom cap with some melted garlic butter, it was barely larger than a 50p piece!. Next came the vegetables for our main course thrown into one large dish, all vegetables were so undercoooked that they could not be cut and were stone cold before the meats etc arrived 10 minutes later. The gravy arrived when we had almost finished eating and as the plates were being cleared away then the mustard and cranberry sauce arrived. The desserts were slightly better, my friend asked for a doggy bag as one person hadn't turned up on our table but despite the fact that the meal had been paid for she was told it wasn't allowed, even though it was for a dog. This was the worse Christmas meal that I have ever had the misfortune to suffer.

Decided to pop in to the Grape and Olive for a quick pint and a bite to eat, still can't believe how bad the experience was. Decided to order a portion of Calamari as a snack with a drink, at £6 I thought it would be a decent sized snack. What turned up were FOUR of the smallest rings of calamari I've ever seen , they were also burnt. I would actually have been funny if it hadn't cost £6. Decided to go to the bar to complain, however ended up waiting for five minutes despite being the only person at the bar whilst members of staff walked around aimlessly not wanting to serve me. To make matters worse after waiting all of that time customers that just walked up to the bar then got served straight away. At this point I decided to leave and write off the whole visit. Can't believe that a brains pub could have this level of service and such disgusting and expensive food. Won't be visiting again

Out for Christmas lunch with my husband and brother. Main courses arrive minus one and I was asked if I was not eating, Yes Salmon Fish cakes! we don't have any was the reply. Why was I not informed sorry was reply can you re-order. When I go out for a meal I wish to eat with the people I am with. My husband had to go to the bar to purchase another drink for me whilst waiting for some one to clear the table and ask if we wanted a dessert. When a waitress finally arrived my husband told her we had been waiting at least half an hour to order a dessert. Reply well you were still eating when I last looked. We finally decided enough was enough and asked for the bill. The restaurant was quite but large party came in after we arrived and we were just an after thought.. Though I did not pay for my meal and i declined the offer of a free drink. We all decided this will be our one and only visit. The food was fine and the restaurant was lovely that's why you got two stars.

Having discussed at length about the importance of a meal void of any lactose containing products for a lactose intolerant member of our group, the waitress proceeded to present a burger smothered in cheese. After finishing our meals we then ordered dessert with most ordering apple crumble. The waitress then brought out apple tarts (bearing in mind this wasn't even an option on the menus we were given). These were sent back since it wasn't what we had ordered to which they replied with "we have run out of crumble so we've just given you tarts instead". We took the tarts as we didn't want to make any more fuss but the custard was burnt and was almost inedible. This was mentioned to the waitress to which she replied "well it was fresh out of a carton". When paying the bill, the waitress was rather unhelpful at helping us organise the bill. She then blamed us for the problems stating that they "can't deal with tables of 10 who just walk in" and that they "recommend booking" but this was not made clear to us at any point and we would have happily taken our business elsewhere if we'd have known it would be so much hassle to eat there. The restaurant was almost empty and they had every opportunity to turn us away. It is safe to say we will not be using our 25% off vouchers which the waitress so enthusiastically gave to us for our "next visit".

A nice place to eat lunch, easy parking and plenty of space in the restaurant. Staff really friendly and helpful. Plenty of choice on the menu for good value meals. We had a three course meal all of which was cooked to high standard and the tastes were wonderful. I live very close to the Grape and Olive and have visited a number of times. The food is good quality but the service is shocking. Every time i have visited this place we have ordered drinks at the bar, the bar tender then offers to bring the drinks over to the table. But it seems to take them ages to bring the them over? On one occasion i even had to go up to the bar to remind them to bring our drinks over, as i think they had forgotten. Its clear they have staff issues. The place also lacks atmosphere. Its a shame because it has the potential to be a really good little pub/bar.

A couple of months ago, we visited this restaurant after dropping our daughter off at university, and were served by a charming man who had given us lots of information about the university and was great with taking our orders. When we returned last weekend we were delighted that he was serving us again, another surprise was that there was a new menu. There were plenty of different options to choose from, My son had the burger as he had loved the ones he had last time, but was really disappointed that the ratio of burger to bun was pretty poor. But he enjoyed it all the same, when mentioning this to the waiter who we found out was George he was really understanding and helpful. We were really surprised that he recognized us and asked us how we had been, when we were undecided he was able to offer some amazing deserts - sharing platter! Amazing!! But with the new menu we were rather disappointed at the increase in price and the removal of items (no mushroom or tomato ect with our steaks as there had been before). The Service and quality of the food was amazing, just slightly disappointed with the price and the amount you got for your money.

We were there for a special celebration (about 10 adults + 10 children) last Sunday lunch. The place was busy but only at half capacity, I'd say. Given all the positive reviews, we were looking forward to a great meal but were really disappointed. Service was really slow (1 hour for children's meals, plus another hour for adults). We asked for drinks but no complimentary Prosecco was offered, unfortunately. The first thing we noticed was that a French soup had been left on the table; we guessed it was a starter for the Sunday lunch menu, but then 2 people had asked for that menu (me and someone else). The lucky guest sat down to have the soup before it got colder, and I went to ask for my starter. The waiter was apologetic when she explained she had understood I didn't want any starter, and she'd go to the kitchen to see wether there were any starters left (soup or anything else!). She finally sourced another French soup, which was served together with my main, but I was so hungry it didn't matter. Everybody was starving by then! The food was really nice but by then it was rather difficult to keep the children entertained, as they had been there for 2 hours already, so adults had to take turns to keep them busy and not everyone was able to enjoy the food. (My husband left most of his food on his plate, as it had gone cold by the time he was able to sit down to it.) I was then looking forward to dessert (included as part of the Sunday menu) but we were not offered any. As it was so late and the children urgently needed some fresh air, eveybody wanted to leave and we left without being offered any dessert, which was a further disappointment. If I had had the time, I'd have complained to the manager about the unacceptable standards of service. The waiters were nice and apologetic but everyone in our group was quite disappointed with the choice of restaurant for the special occasion. I don't see myself coming back to this place again, unfortunately. :(

I visited the grape and olive with some friends on a Sunday lunchtime. I have visited before and the prices have certainly increased since my last visit. We were greeted at the bar by a pleasant young man and ordered our drinks. We were told that there would be a 45min wait because we had just arrived after 2 large tables but we were happy to wait. I liked the set menu option, 3 courses for £18 and chose devilled whitebait to start, sirloin of beef for main course and creme brûlée for dessert. My friend, who doesn't eat meat, was a little disappointed that there wasn't a vegetarian option offered on the set menu and was told that the vegetarian option would be the beef sirloin, without the beef sirloin, which was a little uninspiring. We were pleasantly surprised by our starters, perhaps a little heavy on the balsamic (we think) in the french onion soup. I liked the presentation of the whitebait which was in a little wire basket. Good portions too. Our mains were good, potatoes a little hard which was mentioned to the waitress who fed back to the kitchen and offered a discount which I thought was generous and well handled. Unfortunately, there were a few things not available on the menu including the creme brûlée I ordered, but we were offered an alternative from the main menu. To be fair, I am overall satisfied with the food and the response, however, my one main complaint would be the lack of intervention and confidence of staff to the disappointing behaviour of some children on the table next to us and their parents. I am a mother of a 3 year old and am always conscious of the fact that a restaurant is a place where all diners should enjoy the experience, young and old, especially when spending £148 to enjoy a meal. Our meal was seriously disrupted by a group of boys play fighting on the floor next to us, shouting to levels that prevented me hearing the conversation of my friends opposite, with no intervention by the staff that I was aware of. I agree with previous reviews in that there is potential here, just a need for more confidence and experience in service to justify the price. I would like to again praise the little boy on another table next to us who was an absolute delight and a credit to his family

We were greeted and seated quite efficiently and brought drinks within minutes. The waitress, I can't remember if we found her name out, was really helpful and lovely. She checked back on us but wasn't over the top with it. She was very keen on recomending the risotto, and i am glad she did. The food was great! The service was slow to start but got better except for the bar man, who brought the jug of water but no glasses and turned a deaf ear when we requested them. I order the mussels that were suppose to come with a garlic and cream wine sauce. It was brought later when I questioned the waitress. Seems the chef that cooks that was off sick tonight. Most unusual was the fact there were no specials and no fresh fish aside from the fish and chips, even though the menu mentioned Specials in at least two places. We were given the excuse it because it was a new menu. They were also out of or in short supply of numerous items. The dessert sampler was quite amazing even though one of the items listed was not available. We were allowed to sub another item of our choice. All the desserts were superb. Quite likely to return given we have been here before though two years ago it was so much better.

The 'new' menu has now cemented our view that this pub is not worth eating at regardless of it's convenient location for us. Gone are the pizza and risotto options which were the saving grace of this place previously. As a group of 3, we had to order our drinks twice. The fig salad was a main course in a starter sized portion. The burger came with a soggy bun and very little garnish (a slice of tomato and mayonnaise), the battered fish was overcooked. For dessert the hot chocolate brownie was frozen in the middle and the cheesecake arrived without the advertised clotted cream and a dry inedible base.We were served by tweedle dumb and tweedle dee. Both overly familiar in manner. One was more interested in his mobile phone and the other called me 'love' all evening (despite my being at least 15 years his senior). He seemed more occupied by trying to sell his puppy to the couple on the table next to us including bringing said dog into the restaurant. The terrible experience was capped off with a filthy tea cup, floating bits in the milk and seriously, who serves tea with frothed warm milk?We have learned our lesson and will not be returning.

I recently came to the grape and olive with my family over the weekend to drop my daughter off at university, and within a few minutes of entering the property was greeted by a very nice young man who showed us to a table for 4. He asked how our week had been, upon telling him our daughter had just started university here, he was giving us information about the university, the halls and various other things that we asked, as he had gone through it before. Even the safe taxi scheme we which reassured my wife and me.It was rather busy in the restaurant, and it was evident in the way you could see the staff dashing around. But every chance they got they kept checking back on us. The starters took a while to arrive, but when they did they were beautifully presented and tasted great, so can't complain too much. After having the starters a little while the young man had came back to check if everything was ok, and just happened to catch my wife as she had taken a mouthful , but she still tried to reply which I thought was hilarious of her! After starters we were quickly given more cutlery and it wasn't too long until our mains came out! They were delicious , yes maybe slightly smaller than I would of liked for the price but still a good meal. What was nice about about this visit was despite it being very busy you could see the staff got on well and we're trying their best to help everyone. The atmosphere was pleasant... admittedly not my kind of music, but nice enough dinner and conversation music. Overall experience.... Nice food, slightly expensive for portions,Really nice cheerful staff who were relatable. And a pleasant atmosphere. I even jokingly/seriously told my daughter to apply for a job here.

Me and my partner came for a attempted lovely meal on friday the 27th september. we arrived and it seemed quite busy and we were standing around waiting to be seated. about 10 minutes of waiting around we finally got seated, the waiter took our drinks he called himself George, he was very rude to us and seemed like he didnt want to be there. We placed our drinks My girlfriend had a rose wine and i had a pint of peroni, when George came back with the drinks he slammed the pint on the table leading to half of the drink going every where and there was no apologises as to the spilt drink. so we just disregarded it as a accident..We then placed our order of food we ordered starters and mains. the starters took over 30 minutes to come to us and by the time they arrived they were stone cold and i had the scallops and they were black covered in grease. we were very sadened when the main course came. my girlfriend ordered the Rissotto and as the menu states its a asparagus and parmasan rissotto and to our knowledge there was no parmasan in the dish at all and the plate came to us messy. We are regulars to the grape and olive but we feel we can no longer have a relaxing time and hold conversations with the staff. the staff seem like they don't want to be there, and to be told that there was no manager on site to take our complaint we find that disgusting, we feel that the grape and olive has gone down hill in the last month. and we feel like we can no longer come to this resturant which is sad because we liked the atmosphere and the food and it has all gone down hill.

I was in Grape & Olive yesterday with friends and we have been going to this pub every Friday for over 6 months. When we arrived my friend who drinks Brain's smooth was told that the Brain's smooth was not available in the bar upstairs but the lady in the bar said that she will get a pint for him from the bar downstairs. He went for a second pint after half an hour or so was told by one of the staff (called him self George ,extremely rude and didn't give a damm about customer service after all this is not his business) that he was not permitted to go downstairs to get the pint of beer as there was only one barrel of beer left and this was reserved for the bar downstairs. A Brains pub running out of beer, what a joke. We asked to speak to the manager and were told that she had left for the evening and he was left in charge of running the bar and if we were not happy with the service we could leave. We spend in the region of £100 every Friday but this didn't seem to matter to him. This is not sour grapes (excuse the punt) but every time we have been in the pub we have to ask the staff to give the table a wipe and clear the empty glasses, I would have thought this was part of the training the staff have to go through before they are let loose on the bar floor. May I suggest that the CEO of Brains Brewery visit the site as and undercover boss see what his staff are up to behind his back, and give them a lesson in customer relation ship and hygiene. I also suggest that he visits the Discovery Pub , that is where we went after we left the pub, and see the warm welcome the staff in this pub give to their customers.

On entering the restaurant you get the impression you are in for a real treat, well presented with a nice atmosphere and in fairness it nearly delivers. I was welcomed by a very enthusiastic gentleman who was keen to ask how I was and this immediately made me feel relaxed and comfortable. I was seated in the restaurant area and he took my drinks order, I ordered a pint of Peroni and a glass of water. I was offered both the lunch menu and the al a Carte menu, both of which read well but were a little tatty around the edges. The selections on the menu, in particular the a la carte, are quite ambitious and in the end I decided to go with the chicken liver, lemongrass & chilli pate to start followed by the roasted duck breast with brambleberry sauce, roasted potatoes and green beans as my main. When the starter arrived it was presented on a lovely black slate, the pate potted with bread and a little salad to finish. All in all a very nice pate without ever taking your breath away, my main concern with the starter was the amount of bread provided, not quite enough. The waiter did check back and ask if everything was to my liking but was never overbearing. When clearing my slate the waiter offered me a glass of wine with my main, this I felt was a nice touch and I felt obliged, on his recommendation I tried a glass of their Stump Jump Grenache Shiraz. The main arrived and it looked small on the plate, it was missing any berries in the sauce and the skin on the duck was a little soft, at this point however the restaurant was busy and the waiter was having to satisfy a lot of guests seemingly on his own so I did not mention the skin to him. The meal was tasty and I finished my plate, the wine was a good match to the food, standing up to the duck and playing well with the brambleberry sauce. I decided not to try desert, and asked for the bill. Payment was painless and the waiter made light conversation. All in all a pleasant experience but perhaps, at £34, a bit lacking in the overall theatrics expected of a premium dining experience.

Today myself and some visiting family went to the grape and olive for lunch, we sat outside on the decking which is really nice when the sun is out, the inside of the pub is also very nice. We ordered on meal off the 2 course menu and the other 4 of us ordered from the normal menu , when the starters came out it was getting cold outside so we asked if we could move inside, the waitress helped us carry our things to a table inside, she also told us there was a box of toys inside for our son which was really helpful. The starters were slightly small for the price paid but really tasty, I don't feel they were great value for money but can't complain as they were nice. Our mains were lovely, every one enjoyed, there was one slightly undercooked steak but it was still very nice. The waitress gave us some strawberrys for my little boy to eat while we were having lunch which was very nice as she didn't have to do this. We never had to ask for drinks and the waitress checked back a fee times to make sure everything was okay. We had desserts and coffees, all perfect, one thing I will say is that the chocolate mousse is slightly runny so if that can be changed it would brilliant but I still ate all of it because it tasted so good! It was a big bill so not the cheapest place to go, perhaps not brilliant value for money but as the food was so good we really can't complain too much! Thank you so much for a lovely afternoon and special thanks to our waitress (not sure of her name, she had long blonde hair and told us she had a nine month old child) she was brilliant and made it a very enjoyable meal!

Would have been interested in exploring this as a possible corporate venue myself... until the buffet arrived. This consisted of a large plate of potatoes, crisps, 2 types of sandwiches and 20 chicken pieces on sticks with some vegetable kebabs. It was neither suitable or sufficient for the number catered for and the price charged seemed to be daylight robbery. Be sure to know what you are paying for before you pay up. However what made it awful was shortly after ordering the chef kicked the door open and shouted into the restaurant "no more checks!" and continued shouting, swearing and stormed off. My children were left terrified and we left.I cannot believe someone can be employed with that kind of attitude.I spoke to the general manager as I was leaving about this and she simply replied "if you'd like a discount I can take some money off the bill" no apology, and she seemed very agressive in her tone of voice. I had smoked duck salad starter, gorgeous, and a rib eye steak which was not only cooked to perfection but the quality of the meat was the best I've had in a while! We then shared the homemade cheesecake which literally made us smile with its flawless flavour. My only criticism is a slightly limited menu and when I asked how often the menu changes I was told this menu has been in since November and there might be a new one for summer. Perhaps a 3 month or seasonal turn over would help with variety. We will definitely be returning as I think this place has both substance and quality with a decent price to match.Thank you Grape and Olive. Your our new local restaurant =)

This restaurant is smart and comfortable, however the service leaves a great deal to be desired. The staff do not appear to be alert and/or enjoying their work. The time between courses is far too long, in fact two of our party one of whom was a lady had skipped the starters in preference for a dessert but they had to leave before the dessert order was taken. We had to remind the staff that we were waiting each course which was most embarrassing. The sad fact is that I visited this restaurant approximately a year ago (I'm from so up there visiting my sister) and it was delightful in every aspect - oh how it has changed. All this said the food was extremely good if somewhat overpriced for some of the dishes.

I visited the Grape & Olive this week with family. Whilst the environment is stylish and comfortable and the food tasty the service left a lot to be desired. It wasn't busy on the evening we visited but the service was painfully slow,we waited ages for our order to be taken and also between starters & mains. Infact because it was so slow we ran out of time so couldn't have dessert and coffee. Also the staff could have been friendlier. Such a shame.

My wife, son and myself attended here last Sunday 23/3/14. The place was not particularly busy and we were seated straight away. We ordered x2 Roast Beef x1 Steak and kidney pie (from a fairly limited menu) and a round of drinks. The drinks did not take long to arrive and then we waited for our food. There was a table of four people behind us who had ordered dessert and others around us were finishing their meals. We continued to wait and another couple arrived, sat down and ordered x2 roast beef. Approximately 20 minutes later, the table of four behind us had finished their food, paid and left and we were still waiting. Some 45 minutes later, the couple who arrived after us received their meals and still we waited. This was completely unacceptable and I approached a member of staff to complain only to be informed that it was "because we ordered the pie, it was taking so long". I very much doubt that the chef was literally rolling out flour to make the pastry from scratch, this is a pub after all. We went to the bar, paid for the round of drinks that we had consumed and left. Frankly as poor as the service was, the worst part of this experience was that at no point did any member of staff, throughout my complaint, actually apologize or once utter the word 'sorry'. This arrogance supports my decision that we will never enter this place again.Management need to be aware that customer service and reputation is everything in today's business. As a family, we frequently dine out locally and will be telling people "not to bother" as far as Grape and Olive is concerned.

My mother chose this place based on its close proximity to her elderly sister-in law, who we were going to visit in the afternoon. I checked it out on Trip Advisor and saw that the reviews were very mixed so went, not sure what it would be like.We had the fish and chips and the coq au vin. They were both delicious, no complaints about any aspect of the taste or presentation. The service was prompt and efficient. The bill, with two soft drinks, came to about £24.50. We were too full to have a dessert, which shows the portions were good and we ate nearly all of it. It's quite nice environment and has a lovely patio area for when the weather is good. So don't know if we were lucky but, based on this experience, we would not worry about going back again.
