we recently visited Usk on a family vacation and wanted to share an amazing experience we had. On our way back from a day out, we found a local Fish & Chip shop called Goyte Fish Bar. From the moment we walk in, we received the warmest of welcomes. They asked if we were locals and after mentioning we were on holiday, they gave us lots of ideas and tips on what to see in the area. Several locals came in while we were waiting and each received a friendly welcome too. The food was amazing, the portions were generous, and service was the best I have ever seen. After our visit I noticed that they appeared in your July edition. I wish we had a chippy like Goyte Fish Bar where I live. They are a credit to the area and I hope others get to experience the welcome that we received. The Howard’s, Reading, Berks.

What a great experience, went here for fish and chips which were excellent - freshly cooked while we waited. The staff were amazingly friendly, even threw in a free sausage for our dog and made us a cup of tea while we waited. Massive choice of food on the menu and very reasonably priced. We will definitely return next time we are in the area.

We missed the last call for food at the restaurant and I’m so happy we did, because our meal at the Goytre Chippy and Tandoori was 5 star. We are connoisseurs of fish and chips, and this place is on the map for us. And the staff were so friendly and helpful, over and above what they needed to be. We will be forever grateful 🙏

Be surprised because the menu is very large, more than you would normally find in a chippy There were six choices of curry sauce. One time we went they had run out of jumbo sausages but gave us 2 small ones at the same price.

I wasn’t too sure about this place as they had very little online presence and I struggled to find a menu, but we were camping with friends who had been and I’m so glad we did! The staff were so incredibly lovely, food order for 10 people was ready in 20 minutes, nothing wrong with the order, food was incredible and so cheap! Would recommend 10/10 every time - will definitely order again!

First time visit to goytre tandoori the meals were lovely and staff exceptional friendly even made me cup tea while waiting for my takeaway hi

The owner went out of his way to make sure that I had everything that I wanted. He is cheerful and helpful and a really kind and happy person I have been there twice and will return as it os on my route to work. I had fish chips and mushy peas. I was offed a cuppa at no extra charge. The views from the pretty shop front are picturesque and inspiring. With excellent quality food and great views what more can you ask for. Don't hesitate to go here. its a gold standard in my view!

So I live in Goytre and I go to Goytre chippy quite a lot and I’m never disappointed.It’s the absolute best chippy ever ever ever!All the food is really nice it’s almost like Gordon Ramsay has made it himself.The people who work their are very friendly and awesome!I always get a fish cake and it tastes like heaven! The other day they also gave people in the village free slush puppies and it’s a very considerate gesture.I would die for Goytres chippy ❤️

They gave me a free slush puppies with my friends and I, this is local to us so we really enjoy going however i am coeliac which means I cannot have gluten which limits me from their food. But their slush puppies

Dropped in on the place unplanned. Had a really pleasant chat with the fellows working there. Got some good local recommendations and travel advice. The food was superb. A great experience overall.

Called in after a long day and ordered fish and chips, mushy peas and onion bargees, which were all freshly cooked by very friendly and efficient staff. The fish and chips were outstanding.......fresh, good sized cod in very tasty batter and a generous portion of chips that were just how 'chippy' chips should be! oh and the freshly cooked onion bargee add-on was simply the best we had ever tasted! We will definitely be getting more of their English and Tandoori take-aways..... a curry next time perhaps.

Travelled to this chippy as the one nearest to our holiday let was shut and was really glad I did. The fish and chips were absolutely superb. Their own spicy curry sauce was fantastic and next time I'm in the area I'll definitely try their Indian food - it smelt delicious! Great friendly service too. Looked to be very popular among the locals.

Doesn't look particularly prepossessing from the outside but spick and span inside. Nice, friendly welcome and a bit of a wait while fish was cooked. Only had fish and chips but they were lovely with generous portions and moderate price. A nice bit of serendipity.

I have used this chippy on numerous occasions and they never have a bad day. The food is consistently great be it fish and chips or an Indian. It doesn't matter whether you visit during the day or the evening, the staff are always very jovial and helpful, especially Nav and his brother in the evenings. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they are more than happy to deliver.Whatever your choice of meal, it's cooked to order and so it's always fresh and at its best and you won't be disappointed with the portions either! I highly recommend them whether you're local or passing through - enjoy.

This is our first time ordering and all I can say is Wow!Food arrived at our caravan at pont kemys, promptly and hot. Delivery driver was very pleasant. Food was unbelievably delicious, I couldn't stop eating!This is my new place for Indian food.Thank you so much, will definitely be ordering again.

Went to Goytre Chippy after a couple of drinks in the pub next door with our granddaughter Nav gave her a free slush puppy to keep her cool. We placed our order but hadnt realised it was cash only. On collecting our order Nav was more than accommodating and the problem was sorted out( he couldn't have been more helpful) food was great and lads who work for him are good lads also will definitely return

Ordered a takeaway biryani with a veg curry - got a meal with an ordinary curry. By the time this was discovered, there was no option to go back. The meats (alleged a mix) all tasted the same, well, tasteless would be more appropriate. Obviously just microwaved. Sorry, would not bother again.

We tried both the Indian and Fish and Chip menus whilst on holiday. All cooked fresh and very tasty. Everyone was helpful and friendly.

Excellent food, all the family enjoyed it! It was cash only and the owner was more than happy for me to settle up later. Luckily the shop across the road did cashback but very trusting of the owner all things considered. He was more concerned we could enjoy the food hot than worry about payment! Good fish and chips, (fresh chunky chips) Cooked fresh and lovely batter on fish, Spicy curry sauce is tasty, Donner kebab is nice and not greasy, I Recommend this place and staff are very welcoming

Not sure if there is more than one fish & chip shop in Goytre but the i made an impromptu one lunchtime and I am very surprised by the reviews I have since read. The food I had was extremely greasy and some of the chips looked like they had been in the fryer since the previous day.

We were treated to great friendly service and particularly tasty chips along with our curry. Very pleasantly surprised and highly recommended!

We ordered pie and chips Saturday night and have used the chip shop for years. Always great quality and great staff highly recommend 👍

Ordered for two people and these are thoughts:Ordered some kebab wraps for delivery and they were phenomenal!! Delivered on time, to usk (where nobody else delivers to) hot and very tasty! Would highly recommend! Goytre special kebab was phenomenal. I'll let the lack of requested garlic sauce slide. It arrived in Usk still piping hot and was packed full of tender and well seasoned meat. If you decided against phoning up and ordering; you're a clown.

Best fish and chips for miles. Nav and the staff are always professional and helpful. Tried the curries last week, they were great too. At this difficult time and during the past lockdowns they have provided an essential service to our village. Well done

Just popped in for takeaway fish and chips although the menu choice was endless fancied fish. I have to say how pleasant, helpful and friendly the staff were, nothing was too much trouble. Carried to food out to the car for us. Offered a cup of tea. The fish was beautiful, lovely crispy batter. We will definitely look forward to visiting again soon. Thank you all.

My granddaughter has a milk allergy and so couldn't have the naan bread. The customer service was great and she was offered an alternative. The staff are always very friendly and the food is delicious. One evening I had forgotten to go to a cash point and they trusted me to pay the next day, lovely people. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Moved here just before lockdown and have always had a good food from here. The service is also very good. On the rare occasion weve had a problem they fixed and delivered quickly. They also get to know you and gave us a freebie to congratulate our new arrival

Went there Wednesday for an Indian takeaway and was disappointed. Both starters were quite poor in taste and the chicken tikka Massala and chicken pathia was also poor in taste and very watery, not much chicken in the pathia

Absolutely amazing service, both in terms of food and personnel. The staff were extremely helpful in catering for our familys different diets. My girlfriend was able to have a lovely vegan curry from a takeaway which she hasn't been able to have since turning vegan and everything was labelled too. Very generous portions for very good prices. Free mint raita and extra poppadoms was also a nice touch. Would definitely recommend to anybody travelling to the local area or even living there. Despite the huge menu, every dish is of great quality. Thanks guys

stopped here earlier ordered pie chips sausage and vegetable samosas. Fantastic food great chips cooked fresh even though shop was about to close. Owner extremely friendly offered to let us eat in and make us a cup of tea as we were on our way back to Swindon. Will definitely stop here again on our next trip to Llangoed Hall.Great food excellent value for money. 5 stars.

Found this place while driving past going to the hospital lovely food great service. Food Display was colourful with all types off different food always my next stop when I drive past. Ate meal outside the shop on the bench also we had a free cup of tea. 10/10 from me.

Great Chips and curry sauce. Who knew there was a choice of curry sauces. Loved the onion bahji. Very friendly and welcoming.

Our local Indian take away that never fails to provide the best curries. My favourite is their Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi which is just hot enough but so tasty. Friendly staff and consistent perfect curries every time 😊

So me and my partner visited here about 2 weeks and omg what a hidden little gem, we first pulled up thinking we were just going to grab a bag of chips as we thought it was just a chippy and we went in we seen on the wall they actually do Indian takeaway 2 so we both decided to have a chicken korma as we proceeded to place the order the man behind the counter said they were actually closed as I was apologising the man said that is was not a problem they would still serve us which was actually very kind of him, we had a nice chat while waiting for food to be ready at the end he threw in free poppadoms and chips, now the food was absolutely out of this world the chips were amazing and the chicken korma was something else the flavour just exploded in my mouth plenty of chicken to definitely my new Indian give it a go u won't be disappointed 10/10 from me

We had arrived to stay in a holiday cottage near by and decided to have a takeaway rather than cook. We phoned in our order and when to pick it up. The chap behind the counter was cheerful and chatty as was another customer who pointed out a local short cut back to the cottage. The food was really good and we liked the idea of half chips half rice. We had a curry each and a starter each and altogether it came to £19.00 which was great value. Would definitely recommend to any one who is visiting the local area.

We ordered a curry while on holiday and popped in to pick it up. The welcome was really friendly and I had a chat while waiting for my food to be cooked. The curries were tasty, not oily (if that bothers you) and all fresh - I could see the curry being emptied from the pan into the container. No microwave pings.The portions are generous and having slightly over ordered as usual we had food for 2 meals. Probably better than the take away Indians we have back where we live. Trying the fish and chips tonight.

We are staying at a local campsite, and had driven past the chip shop a few times. I guess we were initially put off as Indian takeaway’s are not best known for their chips. But today, neither of us wanted to cook, so we decided to give it a go.

Ordered the curry. Big portions, crispy poppadoms and friendly service. A real gem in a small village.

Absolutely disgusting robbery and tasteless chips and very unpleasant fish and sausages too. I asked for all to be cooked fresh as stuff in counter heaters looked inedible. It was still disgusting. Generous portion of chips but I threw it all away. Absolutely horrid. Wish I'd tried curries instead!

After a hard day navigating the Brecon canal, we visited Goytre chippy in need of sustenance, and we certainly weren't disappointed! Our food was very tasty, the guys working in the chippy were very friendly, and even offered to give us a lift back to the boat as it was quite late and dark when we collected our food. They gave us some free poppadoms and politely declined our tip!

Really good portions and very tasty fish and chips and also wide range of delicious curries. Really nice friendly people. Definitely recommend.

With plenty of great options near by they really need to make sure they provide quality food. It is always fresh and tastes good. It may not be the best fish and chips in the area but it certainly is no slouch either.

Having just moved to Goytre my wife and I were pretty tired and looking for a takeaway. I remembered that I'd seen Goytre Tandoori previously and after reading some of the reviews I thought I'd pop in.

Always eats here but Had the new MEGA MIX BOX for a change.

We have recently started using this chip shop and the staff a very friendly and they offer a wide menu. The quality of food is excellent and would recommend it.

Have just spent a week in a holiday cottage around the corner from this brilliant chippy.

Living local we have used Goytre Tandoori since Nav and his family first opened it.

When we moved here, we thought one takeaway doing Indian, Chip shop and Kebab wouldn’t be the best. We were wrong. All really good and the mix of the three different foods is great. If you don’t believe me try the battered chicken tikka bites or the chicken tikka naan wrap with chips. Lamb bhuna also recommended. Nav and the rest of the staff always friendly. Can’t fault it

i feel that the food is great the staff who work there are really friendly such a great place to get nice curry and kebabs and other food items they sell and all the food coked there is made fresh for you

We were on a canal holiday and popped by for some fish and chips. The food was ecxellent and the service was even better. The owners could not have been more friendly and helpful right down to providing plates so we could eat the food on a table outside..with a free squirt of tartar sauce for good measure! We had just bought some milk in the local spa and they even asked if we wanted to pop that in the firdge to keep it cool. Fabulous food and experience! Thank you.

We called in after an evening drink in the Goytre Arms next door. It was our first visit and was surprised to find it was an Indian Take away. This is not a sit in restaurant it is a traditional counter service take away. One aspect is the nearby car park to sit in the car and eat. There is nothing better after a pint in the local than a bag of chips to finish the evening off and this one is great to visit.

Stopped off here on the motorbike on the way home from a dreadful Saturday evening misadventure to two hugely overrated and unwelcoming pubs in Talybont-on-Usk. Here two of the nicest and most down to Earth guys are running the place and the chips were great. Definitely visiting again and already recommending by word of mouth. Simple things matter!!

Best fish and chips I’ve had in Britain south of Sheffield. The chips were crisp and tasted like chips, not soggy fried potatoes. The chips looked homemade; maybe this was why they tasted so good. The blokes who ran the place were very friendly and served our meals on plates with a slice of lemon, so that we could eat our meals outside and they were happy for us to bring our pints from the pub next door. The fish was perfect to.

We ordered Chicken Bhuna by phone (asked for mild) and egg fried rice with peshwari Nan and chicken korma for the kids also with egg fried rice and Nan and when we got there the proprietor / called Nav passed us a plate of food to try out like a kebab but different meats and salad to eat while we waited - it was just outstanding! Such a nice welcome place and they have been running this for years now, nice bunch so polite and accommodating and a very popular chippy too. I’ve never seen them turn a customer away even if they are closing. Usually me !

Great food good variety fantastic customer service. Nav always goes that extra with his customer service. Food is always tasty hot and plentiful. Love the fact he delivers to us at the campsite. Try the curries won’t be disappointed.

VERY RARELY DO YOU FIND AN INDIAN TAKEAWAY WITH A FULL RANGE FOR the very best of both, very rarely do you find an Indian takeaway with a full range for cooking "proper" British fish n chips, at Goytre chippy you get just that, providing you with a full British chippy menu along side a wide Tandoori menu,with all food cooked fresh using a high standard of ingredients, it's the perfect takeaway for everyone whether you fancy traditional fish, chips and mushy peas or a full Indian banquet complete with poppadoms and a fluffy nann bread.. I'ts all on offer along with the lovely lads who run the shop who could ask for more? highly recommended to anyone who wants quality British or Indian takeaway food at a reasonable price

Pedimos comida media hora antes y fuimos al bar de al lado para tomar una copa.

Me encanta este agradable y familiar para llevar chippy india dirigido por hermanos Nav y Ali con su cocina y horno de arcilla! ! Popular entre los locales y visitar los campings que parecen saber todo el mundo en el pueblo por su nombre- y son muy rápidos para recordar sus pedidos y super eficiente en preparación. Por la noche siempre colas tan temprano en la noche a través de la circunvalación. Patatas fritas son productos de la patata agrícolas por la carretera (lo sé porque estaban tan bien pregunté). Me encanta el pan Naan kebabs que rollo para comer. . Y el pollo tikka picaduras son preciosas en pasta con patatas fritas y salsa masala! Mi boca regando ya. Incluso cuando cierran a las 10:00pm (10. 30 viernes/sábado) le dispara algunos alimentos si son locales - Nunca dicen no, que vale la pena tenerlo en cuenta! ! Me gusta este lugar, mucho aparcamiento, pub al lado, la tienda local, parque con columpios y un perros - no puedes equivocarte! ! ! Y YO en coche de Abergavenny, que está a 8 millas de distancia!

I reckon the special Biryani has to be one of the best I've ever had from a takeaway. Lots of meat and full of flavour.

After doing some work on a local farm one of the lads decided to go for our dinner/lunch ...I had a sausage in batter & chips ..What can I say The chips or should I say scraps were black and rock solid,the portion was no bigger than a small tray ( thankfully ) the sausage in batter was also hard & cold,what a complete waste of money .I feel sorry for the people that have to go there as there is not much else about Poor people .

Excellent Service from these guys every time we visit. We travel 600 miles and this is our first call every time. A pleasure to eat here.
