Gourmet Cafe in Swansea

Mapo tofu was divine. Had a chilli beef dish thing that came in a metal bowl, can't recall it's exact name, near the front of the menu. It was honestly incredible. Everything fairly priced.

Really tasty ,great value & friendly staff.We had Sizzling Beef, King Prawn with ginger,Beef with Blackbean, Chow mein, broccoli served with a lovely mellow Chinese tea ,will def return 👍

Unbelievably good. Walked in for lunch this afternoon and was blown away. We ordered the mapo tofu and shredded pork with hot peppers. Best Chinese we’ve had in the UK so far, and we’ve tried dozens of restaurants. It was the perfect level of spicy for us (meaning we were wiping our noses the entire time, just the way we like it). Spicy, flavorful, fresh- I was full but had about two times what I usually eat. If I’m in Swansea again, I’ll definitely stop by.

Incredible Chinese food cooked by an excellent chef who is extremely proud of his craft. Sizzling black pepper beef is a staple dish at this restaurant and is a must-try. We have not had a single bad dish from here, and the food keeps exceptionally well when taken home to be eaten the next day. Many moons ago this place used to be perfect, but the increase in business means they are now quite busy most evenings. This means the customer service can be exceptionally poor. We have often had our drinks forgotten, and menus can take a long time to be despatched. Additionally, ordering can take a very long time, particularly if there are many parties or larger groups. Sometimes you might find you ordered first, but your dishes come much later than for everybody else. We've also caught the waitress cleaning her nails while we waited for our forgotten drinks once, which was a bit sad. While the customer service is a shame, I think the food is the best Chinese food I've eaten in my life. We would come here more often (or as often as we used to) but nowadays it's very cramped in there with the extra customers, and it can be a hassle waiting so long for food or service.

Just love this fantastic cafe! Only found it before Christmas and we just love coming here for the most exceptional tasty meal! Can definitely recommend the Garlic Chicken wings! As well as the Very spicy fish fillets & Spicy King Prawns Diolch

Superb Chinese food Extensive menu Great value for money

The treatment by the waiters has been excelente and they have also let us in for dinner just before closing. The stars that I have given them are mainly due to the food, the dishes that I ordered did not have much flavor. Of the three, I would only recommend the tofu soup. On the other hand, you can only pay in cash and we were not told before going in for dinner.

Highly recommend this place if you are craving for some South east asian food without burning a hole in your pocket.

We had lunch on this restaurant after church, the food is superb and the service is good, but the smell of the food will stick to your hair, clothes and inner clothes. How I wish they will install an air purifier to suck the smell of the dishes in the whole room.

A wonderful authentic, family run, Chinese restaurant with delicious food, the service is great too. They have a vast menu with all food freshly prepared. A hidden gem. Give it a try and I'm sure you'll be back numerous times.

Very original dishes , things which you probably never tried before : frogs 🐸, intenstines, tendons, tripes, jellyfishes... And lots more in unique culinary connections and lots of varieties. This is not just Dining Experience, but whole trip to Far, far East 🏮💖 You might get some communication problems with a waitress but this might be just a different cultural behaviour and the end everything arrive as it should be. Everything is priced incredibly low 😯👏 Totally top (personal favourite just after GiGi's) Chinese in City!

This place is so good we have taken to going here almost every week. The food is on another level! It is run by such a lovely family who are very talented chefs. The service and advice we have had is second to none. Personal favourites so far... Hot and sour soup; prawns in egg yolk; Brocolli in hot and sour; spare ribs in sweet and sour and sizzling beef. But you won't be disappointed by anything you order, every dish is delicious. Amazing place with a great atmosphere and lovely staff!

Looking for a fantastic place to have Chinese? then this place is for you. on my recent visit to Swansea found this nice place to have dinner and to my surprise this restaurant had an amazing and authentic Chinese dishes that would please most people. Not just the vast choice but also this place is very good for your wallet. This place is a must visit for all who love their Chinese food.

Fantastic fresh and tasty food. Amazingly reasonable prices, clean, airy and basic restaurant. Tables are perhaps a little close together, but no problem of the place isn't full. Huge menu with some interesting choices for the more adventurous. Very popular with Chinese students, which indicates great food and great prices. Can't wait to go back.

Whilst visiting Swansea, from London, for a couple of days in September 2021, my partner and I ended up at Gourmet Cafe after the original Chinese establishment we attempted to try was closed. We are so glad that this was the case as Gourmet Cafe proved to be a fantastic eatery which we may not have visited otherwise. As individuals who eat lots of Chinese food, we can only describe the food that we ordered as being truly tasty, full of flavour and delicious. The food was piping hot and very obviously freshly made. The portion sizes were huge for every dish we ordered - leaving huge smiles on our faces and stuffed bellies!!! Best of all the cost was truly excellent value. Our experience of the food in Gourmet Cafe is without question a hard act to follow. In fact we were so impressed, we went back the following night. If our tummies had allowed it we would have also gone back for a daytime meal before we left. In addition to the phenomenal food, everything from the calm efficient friendly service to the very clean restaurant made the whole experience, a thoroughly enjoyable one. We will definitely come back to Gourmet Cafe when we visit Swansea again.

Fantastic food! Staff are top class!

We have been here twice now. Food is really delicious. There is a lot of choice on the menu, and the portions are quite big - plenty for another meal the next day. Would highly recommend.

My wife found this place while looking for a more authentic Chinese dining experience. We took our son and my mum as they both love Chinese food. What a find! We asked for help in ordering and the young waiter chose 4 amazing dishes for us, covering prawn, beef, pork and chicken. The stand out dish was fried king prawns with a crispy egg yolk coating, delicious! The food is definitely on another level compared to the usual westernised Chinese fare. Take a chance and try something different, you won't regret it!

We live in the uk for 1 year (near London). We are in holiday, visiting Wales and this was the best chinese restaurant I found in UK! The experience was wonderful from the start: clean, cozy, friendly, fast, efficient. The food was wonderful; as we've visited China, we asked for intestines (because we usually don't find them in any restaurant here), pork, tofu, tripe.... all very well done!!! Amazing flavor and very fair price. The guy who attended us is called "Z", very friendly and polite! Excellent experience!

This is a awesome place for authentic Chinese food. I have been eating Chinese out all my life globally even in Hong Kong, but this was by far the best. Could not stop eating it, I highly recommend the fried king prawn with chilli and the tasty brisket beef with ho fan.

I always drop by to get a takeaway from here when I'm passing by Swansea. I stumbled upon it when I was in Swansea once a few years ago and everyone I've taken there loves it. The portions are massive and the food is soooo yummy for its very very low price point. Its open for takeaway now from 11am, just call the number on the website and collect it later. Real gem. I am very very partial to the braised pork for £5.80 with rice. I can easily split it into a few meals. Absolutely lovely. Wholly recommend.

This place has ended up being my regular Chinese for the last 2+ years doing both takeaway + dining in (would dine in for a better experience, e.g the sizzling beef comes out on a hotplate served by the chef, which is nicer than eating it out of a Tupperware box.)Would give 10 stars if I could

Absolutely AMAZING, the service is really fast and the staff are lovely, and of course the food is immense. I come here all the time and I guarantee that you’ll leave wanting more:)

The food there are good. However, the only downside is that they only accept cash and the cash machine close by with charge for withdrawing. So remember to bring some cash before hand. In addition signals are quite bad in there. If you are a person who cannot live without a phone then be warn.

First time eating Chinese food in Swansea and I'm pleased to see how authentic and delicious the food here is. The price is reasonable, the food portions are large, the staff are friendly and I'd love to come back here again to order more food!

A regular with me as I like traditional Chinese cuisine. English spoken is little to basic by staff but service excellent. Be careful when ordering as it's not like your local Chinese. Try the jellyfish 😉 Must say it's spotlessly clean I'd give 5star for that.

At the end of a delicious meal we said goodbye to the kitchen staff. Lovely people hard working in a tiny kitchen. If only the front of house and the service was the same!!!! Good food excellent portions but very slow and surly staff.

Best Chinese food I have had in Swansea yet! As an Asian, the food here is legit. The setup is small so seats are limited. When we were there, they were so swamped they couldn’t provide us with soup bowl coz’ they can’t wash fast enough!! Also they only take cash. Then again, we are so used to such stuff in Asia, we don’t really bother so long as the food is good. The stir fried chili prawns can with a real bite and was very fragrant. The sizzling beef was smoking and straight off the stove. Dive into it fast before the beef gets stuck to the bottom of the hot plate. The Kongpo chicken was a little weak. Will definitely come back again to try other dishes.

We often visit this restaurant and it never disappoints. The food is delicious with large portions and a huge choice of menu. Service is swift and the prices are very cheap. We go there as a family and the kids love the beef with peppers and also the garlic broccoli, whilst we tuck into and explore a few dishes. It never disappoints.

Called in here as our original place to eat hoogah was closed. We walked in and found an empty table, and were swiftly given a menu. The menu is big with a lot of options to choose from. After ordering we felt it was a while waiting on food and other tables were getting their food before us besides coming in after us. Although we waited when it finally came it was worth the wait. The food we had was delicious and were served in big portions for the 3 of us. If in the area, I would recommend a visit for lunch!!

Originally we had planned to go to the Thai restaurant down the road, but it was completely full when we got there. It was raining (of course) so we looked for somewhere nearby that we could pop into quickly. Our dinner at Gourmet Cafe did not disappoint. We are vegetarian, and although we did have to scour the menu to find appropriate food, in the end we ate our fill and more. Beware! Portions are large ... and prices are very reasonable.

Really very tasty. You know a Chinese restaurant is good when the majority of the clientele are Chinese and you have to queue for a table on a Thursday night. The staff are always busy, but friendly enough and helpful. The food is proper mainland Chinese fare rather than the more usual Cantonese in most UK restaurants. Plenty of spicy peppers, whether chili or Szechuan, and lots of potato dishes. Whatever you order is full of flavour and will make you want more. It's also surprisingly cheap. Dishes are around £6-£7 so four of you can eat and drink for under £30.

Excellent authentic Chinese delicacies, if you want to taste the "real" Chinese food, this is one of the best and most down-to-earth little shop loved by many Chinese people. Only the day-to-day Chinese food enjoyed by Chinese people, nothing fancy or fake, and you'll be surprised by the reasonable pricing that makes it one of the first choice "daily dining" for Chinese students. Just a little reminder, if you do not like heavy tastes, remember to ask for "low salt, low oil, no MSG" when ordering.

There are a lot of Chinese living in Swansea so it follows that there are going to be some really good authentic Chinese restaurants around. This is one of the best. Great food and a good variety. Really cheap too!

Great service, amazing food and more than value for money. I've been here at least ten times in the last few months and it never disappoints. It doesn't look great inside, but everything else makes up for that. The staff are very helpful, especially when deciding what to choose from the menu. The food is authentic and very tasty.

Awsome place to go fast service and delicious food

This is a small and authentic Chinese restaurant. The menu can be a little puzzling but once you ask for an explanation of the meal there's no going back.Everything is so fresh and tasty, and extremely well priced, I may even say cheap, and the portions are of a good size.We've been there for a takeaway over Xmas when my son's fiance, who's from Taiwan, placed the order, surprising us with a few typical Chinese dishes, something like jellyfish salad!!!!!During this visit I had strips of beef in a spicy sauce with beansprouts, really tasty, my partner ordered sweet and sour king prawns which I would normally avoid but these were really nice.The service is great but the staff have limited English, but they are helpful all the same.Can I say it's probably the best Chinese meal I've had outside of China town in Sydney.Fantastic and we'll be back time after time

Great little gem, love the food here

The first good sign was the place was full of Chinese people eating and enjoying, it's a lovely little place with some great authentic touches, the food may seem weird and wonderful to a western palate but it's definitely tasty. I had the provocative chicken and hot and spicy stir fried frog meat, I was warned on ordering the chicken that there would be bones but it was really tasty nonetheless. The frog was really hot and spicy but I'd recommend it to anyone to give it a try, there's such a varied menu I can't wait to go back and try something else new to my taste buds, maybe the crispy pig intestine or ox tripe.

I use to go often to eat there. The food is really nice, homemade and tasty. Also big portions and very cheap. They have three levels of spicy food, so if you like hot food you will enjoy. Love the sweet and sour chicken and the Korean style squid.
