Service and atmosphere were fine. The food was below par, though. My Lasagne didn't have any béchamel in it, sadly.

Jacket potato was very dry throughout. Definitely cooked for too long. Chilli tasted ok but the rice was very watery. The waitress was very polite but the girl behind the counter lacked customer service skills. I’d say this place was more of a tea room than a lunch time cafe.

Me and couple of friends came to Nottingham and enjoyed thos nice cozy cofee house food was fantastic and the team very friendly.

Gossips is one of the nicest coffee houses I have visited. The staff are a delight and the service is first class. The business is situated right in the heart of Southwell, with convenient parking nearby (2 hours free).

Lovely please for coffee. Meals look delicious. Very busy.

I haven't been for a while with it being a Saturday it was v busy. Waited quite a while before our order was taken & then I waited for salad cream and it never came. Good was up to its usual good standard although the price had risen quite a lot.

Lovely experience of this little cafe/coffee shop. Beans on toast was excellent, a great portion for the price. Staff were lovely and friendly. The option of soya milk was particularly valued (despite the 20p extra charge!)

Lovely place, good food, great cake!

We called into Gossips for lunch when shopping in Southwell. First impressions were very good, very clean and well ventilated with well spaced out tables and chairs. It was good to see a menu with more than one vegetarian option as well as choices on the lunch time specials board. We both chose the nut roast which was served with a jacket potato and salad and was excellent. Friendly efficient service and great value for money. Although one toilet appeared to be out of use to accommodate the outdoor seating the one next to it was in operation and didn't create a problem

Welcoming cafe. Staff lovely. Covid arrangements excellent. 🍓 Strawberry milkshake perfect. Apple Pie wow. Ice cream perfect. Outside toilet not accessible. Quite a few steps. Probably a listed building so not able to adapt. Highly recommended.

Forgot our order and then tried to say if we'd ordered something else he would've repeated it! Latte was quite sour. Need some techniques in customer service so we feel even though the order was forgotten we were still valued customers

Lovely café in the high street. Standard café fare, but nicely cooked and reasonably priced. Friendly staff and very "Covid aware". Outside loo - which would be, err, interesting in winter.

Had delicious lunch quiche with jacket potato and hubby had steak and kidney pie new potatoes etc finished off with deep apple pie and custard can’t beat it. Waiter who served us was so quick but waitress with long dark hair was a put off hair would have been better tied out of the way.

I was looking for a vegan option in Southwell and this was the only eatery with a vegan option on their menu online. I had the baked potato with beans which was fine but others in my group had a disappointing small portion of bland pate and toast and a lasagne with contained peas, sweetcorn and celery?! It seemed like they just threw in some leftovers and covered it in thick greasy melted cheese. The staff seemed fed up when we tried to order food (apart from a very cheerful waitress who was lovely) and the toilets were out of order. We were directed to the most disgusting public toilet I've ever seen. Disappointing all round.

My friends and I visited for lunch, wasn’t sure what to expect with the restrictions. Was lovely felt really relaxed and the food was delicious! Can recommend a BLT Sandwich! Will definitely pop in again! 😊

Was finally able to visit again after lockdown with my other half, we had an amazing jacket potato and Welsh rarebit with two coffees followed by homemade cake. we felt very safe and employees assured government guidelines were followed. we went on a Tuesday where the new scheme of “eat to help out” was on offer meaning we saved money on our meal!

Been to this place several times over the years for a hot drink and a cake, and never had any previous complaints as the cakes are home- made, very nice and plenty of choice.However, visited Southwell with my wife yesterday and we decided to call in for cake and cup of tea. They have reduced the number of tables to allow more distance between them and there were only two other couples besides us. We were getting close to leaving but my wife needed the toilet and it was only at that point that the manager said they were closed and we would have to use the toilets in the public car park, a very brisk 7 or 8 minute walk. My wife has previous experience of these, they are far from clean and cramped. Had we known when entering the building that the toilets were closed, then we would not have given them our custom, and gone elsewhere. Why not have a prominent sign in the café saying the toilets are not in use? Why are they not in use? Hardly a social distancing problem as I think there is one toilet for ladies and one for gents. When will they be in use again? Once the virus has disappeared? Which could be years. They were hardly overwhelmed with customers, so there wouldn't have been a queue. We felt it was an appalling situation and we had been deceived. Consequently, on principle, we won't be giving them any more of our custom on future visits to Southwell. This rating is for the toilet situation and not for the food/drink.

Came for breakfast my Guest House didn't do any. Give it 3 out of 5. Had extra tea but bill didn't take off tea included with breakfast. Toast and eggs were nice but rest over cooked.

Excellent find. Extensive menu covering breakfast,lunch and afternoon tea. We chose omelette and chilli con carne. Excellent, good service and not too long await for food. Reasonable access for less able customers as you enter but access to toilets would be more of a challenge. These are situated outside across a yard, ok for dry sunny days but not ideal. Changes are difficult in a conservation area with neighbours having access across the yard. Plenty of seating upstairs. Well worth a visit, you won’t be disappointed.

The service was good, the toast and butter were just right, but our cooked breakfast was very ordinary indeed, and thus a little disappointing Some things are not easy to change, but our personal preference would be to pay a little more, for better food

The place and staff clean friendly. I had a hot chocolate, which for me wasn't piping hot, but was tasty. My friends had coffee which they enjoyed. A good place to go for a quick coffee.

Whilst visiting Southwell to catch up with local friends, they highly recommended gossips to us. Whilst arriving at the establishment we were greeted with a warm welcome by all staff. We were very pleased with the menu and excited with the all day breakfast option. I and my partner both had lattes and had a lovely cake after our main meal. Can’t wait to return, all the best to the staff.

Been visiting Gossips for years at least once or twice a month since I was a teenager. I’ve always liked its old fashioned charm. However the past 2/3 visits I’ve been really disappointed. I visit mainly with my toddler these days who is extremely well behaved. No tantrums or misbehaving just to be very clear.However the staff have not made us feel unwelcomed. The older lady who used to smile now frowns as soon as she sees I have a child with me. One of the younger male waiters was abrupt with me on my last visit, I actually felt myself go red with embarrassment with his tone to me with other customers in ear reach. The children’s menu I feel compared to other establishments is very small. I could not see any cold options. No sandwiches etc which is odd for a cafe. I asked if I could have just a plain simple sandwich for my daughter only to be told that I could have a sandwich but would be charged the full price for a adults sized one. I just wanted basically 1 slice of ham and white bread. Nothing fancy. Knowing that she was hungry and it was raining I agreed, but £5 for what arrived was and is appalling! I do hope the manager takes note and adds a few more cold options to the children’s menu and whilst I appreciate the majority of clientele are of the older generation it is the younger generation that will one day become the older. And if you keep mis treating them simply we will go elsewhere with our money. The total bill came to £12/13 which for 2 below average plain sandwiches and a coffee is far to high compared to other local venues and in truth I will definitely think twice before coming back.

We popped in for lunch, lots of choices. I had a toasted sandwich and my husband had a ploughmans. Good portions. The cakes looked good but hadnt got room for one. Staff were attentive and efficient. Well worth a visit.

Today was our second visit and once again I was impressed by the cleanliness of the place....even the outside toilets.....and the staff were very professional and friendly. All the food and drinks were delicious too.

All good, nothing to light up the world, a little canteen like with the food cellophane wrapped at the counter and metal teapots. Individually wrapped sugar portions show it’s due some contemporary thinking. The two girls who served us were great, the guy was a little sullen but maybe it’d been a long day. Great homemade scone with proper cream and generous on the jam and an excellent location - a lot of competition around there!

Had a spell of a very regular visit, spot on, more so Gaye the lady who knew exactly how to deal with people, not altogether as easy as it appears, I never got past beans on toast, thick crusty bread, very pleasant atmosphere, not starchy a pleasant meeting place, nice if the owner came round , it makes a difference

This was sooo much better than the other place tried in Southwell, and a private and sunny courtyard at the back to boot. Food was lovely if you had the Welsh Rarebits or omelettes, but the sausage sandwich was very basic and awkward to eat. Would go again

Love this coffee house always go here when I am in Southwell.

On visiting Gossips coffee shop I found the staff friendly, service was good until I went to pay my bill. I attempted to pay with a Scottish £10 note, which the staff member refuse to accept. On querying this I was grumpily told to take it up with his boss who had told them not to accept Scottish currency.I have never before had Scottish notes refused.

We had lunch here today for first time. What a find ! Service prompt & friendly. Food was excellent. Would recommend anyone visiting Southwell this is THE place to have lunch or a coffee.

I'm afraid I find this coffee shop too old fashioned for my tastes. It's badly in need of a re vamp.Not very impressed with the coffee or cake.I little dark and dull inside.Will not visit again, have tried it a few times but find it dull and tired.Maybe suitable for some people but not for me.

A friendly and comfy café. Excellent service and selection of desserts. I had a lovely de-caff cappucino and scone with jam and clotted cream at a bargain price - scone was a generous size, and could easily have been shared.

We visited Southwell in Nottinghamshire this morning 12/04/2019 and went for a coffee and tea with a couple of toasted hot cross buns in Gossips Coffee House The cafe was very clean and very welcoming. Our order arrived quickly and was hot, the young lady who served us was very polite and friendly. If we are ever in the area again we will return and recommend it to all our friends and family.WELL WORTH A VISIT.

I along with a work colleague went to have lunch here, we only had a short lunch time. I ordered beans on toast which came 15 minutes later, no warning was given regarding the scalding beans from the curly haired young waiter. I began to eat the food as I only had 10 minutes left from my lunch break. The first mouthful I took burnt my mouth, obviously I didn't realise how badly I had been burnt. The next mouthful also felt very hot, I ate the rest after it cooled down somewhat. I realised then that my upper ceiling was quite burnt and hurt. I went down to pay and to mention the incident, the young cashier went to the kitchens to talk to someone. She apologised again and again, she offered the price of a drink off my bill which was unsatisfactory customer service. The woman manager never came out of the kitchen to apologise or to offer any first aid etc. I did dash to the Boots across the way to see the pharmacist who had a look at my burnt mouth and dashed me out to get a cold drink or ice. I have since rung to speak to the owner who was away as the same manager informed me, He never had the decency to ring me back even to ask how my scalded mouth was. I had been previously to this cafe and was served by a young man who took forever to serve two teas and all without a smile! No sense of customer service or first aid, go at your own peril here.

Now this is a "gem of a place". It's only a small cafe but there is upstairs seating. Plenty of food on the menu. Lovely helpful staff. Very clean, but it's pity the toilets are outside at the back of the premises, not ideal if you have to queue in the cold winter.

It was a very cold day when we revisited Southwell after many years and we needed a morning drink , we found this lovely coffee or tea shop in king street , on opening the door we realised that we had found a gem , it was warm and the staff welcoming the place was very clean and all the tables set out for morning drinks or breakfast , we quickly had our drinks order taken and ordered the Yorkshire tea cakes , which when served were hot and fresh and a joy to eat . The staff were very nice and chatty the menu is very good and nicely priced , later people started to order early lunch ( 11:45 ) and it all looked very good to our eyes. Well worth a visit if you need a drink and snack or lunch.

Had a very good BLT with plenty fresh salad. Latte was good but probably have an extra shot next time as I like strong coffee. Own blend tea is very refreshing and my partner said probably in the top two tasting fruit scones ever!Stupid stainless teapot and jugs that dribble over table. Very dated motorway services style, time to get some china in! Staff were friendly but need to clean tables not just clear plates away even when it is busy. Toilets need a revamp, had to pick the sliver of soap off floor to wash my hands.
