Good Earth Restaurant in Leicester

The food is beautiful and fresh and the staff are lovely this is my favourite place to eat in Leicester. The shop downstairs is an added delight to this experience.

Went for an early lunch and wasn’t disappointed. Great, home cooked food. Not a dish that I wouldn’t be happy to have on the menu. Fantastic! Will be back again

Centrally located in the heart of Leicester City. The BEST, most wholesome vegan and vegetarian food. A great variety of options served by very friendly staff in a really cosy setting. Lovely atmosphere. An utter delight!

Overall a very nice looking place...olde world? But in a very well presented way. Tasty food. Fantic plate of varied salad to go with it

Love this place hasn't changed a bit. Be prepared to wait in line but it's worth it. Best home cooked vegetarian food in town. .....well anywhere really!

Excellent experience for the four of us who dined at The Good Earth. Quiet and atmospheric; a good place to relax, chat and enjoy good food and drinks at reasonable prices.

The shepherd's pie was delicious and the waiter was very gentle. The store retains the ancient architectural style, and the interior layout approximates the atmosphere of a 1960s waffle shop. The building itself is approximately Edwardian style from the 18th to 19th centuries. It’s great to keep it.

This little gem of a restaurant, tooked away in a city centre side street, serves absolutely delicious, home made, healthy food at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere is quaint and nostalgic whilst the service is very friendly.

Great place if you are vegan, vegetarian or even like me non vegetarian,the food is delicious and not expensive, well recommend

Nowadays you won't find many places like this. Unique atmosphere, brilliant food (like home), lovely service, quiet and friendly place. Ive had a vegan pasta bake twice, and I will be returning just for this for a while! Need to get bored of it to try something new! 🤣 Great selection of cakes with vegan options available. Lovely hot chocolate with vg whipped cream and marshmallows. It's such a joy to go there. My favourite place in Leicester!!

Spent many happy years coming to the good earth.As always a lovely,friendly,laid back place to eat.However the pasta dish today was less than ideal.For nearly £10.00 the dish was onions,peppers,tomatoes and some pasta in a smallish bowl with a miniscule hunk of bread.Costs are increasing everywhere yet many other places in Leicester still give good value for money.In this instance im afraid this was not the case,a shame as its a great place to go.

Very rude staff , not child friendly and food was horrible

Our first visit and we were really pleased with the food (soup was the nicest Tomato I've ever had).Staff and service great.It was busy which is testament to it's popularity.Will be back

A cosy and warm environment serving delicious vegan and veggie meals and treats. I had the cottage pie and it could be the best cottage pie I’ve ever had! Will definitely revisit.

Long standing Leicester vegetarian restaurant, with hearty home made cooking the order of the day. Have been many times over the years and always eaten well.

As usual, this place never ceases to please. Lovely, healthy, tasty food always on offer. And spacious seating area where there is plenty of room between tables. Can highly recommend on all levels. Don't forget to visit the equally pleasing pot pourri shop just downstairs. Beautiful smells and treats to be had. Enjoy

Met a friend I hadn't seen for 50 years. We used to come to the Good Earth as students. An exceptional place, lovely food, lovely people, wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended.

The fact that this place has been going since 1965 says it all. Traditional home cooked style vegetarian and vegan dishes such as bakes, roasts and casseroles. Fantastic salad bar selection and plenty of cake choices. A Leicester institution.

Tasty, wholesome food at great prices served by friendly staff in an inviting environment. What more do you need? I’ve been coming here for literally decades and the quality remains top notch.

Just as great as it always has been, just a shame about the unessasry (mid May) storage heater radiating heat uncontrollably, thats not good for the earth

My favourite vegetarian restaurant serving fresh, home-made meals and desserts. Plenty of seating available - if the first level is busy go upstairs!

Such a choice of dishes - took me a while to decide on the potato, parsnip and carrot bake with mature cheese. I'm on a diet regime and was able to get a spoonful of salad instead of the white bread, with no added cost. So glad I came across this restaurant on my first trip to the city centre.

Another great lunch at the home of good vegetarian food in Leicester. I had Broccoli and Stilton soup for starters and it was divine. Sweet chilli pasta bake with salad was superb. The cornflake pie was a bit too sweet for my liking. Great service as always. Will be returning very soon

We have been to our first supper club evening, wow the food was absolutely amazing and the staff are so friendly and welcoming.

Always at least two vegan options for main course, and the food is wholesome and satisfying. Vegan butter and dairy free milk available on request. Lovely selection of salads and cakes too. My favourite place to eat in when visiting Leicester.

The staff are friendly and pleasant. The cafe is really cold, which didn’t help our experience with the food. The food itself varies. Recently, I have had one meal which was pretty unpleasant ( I left it) and two that were ok but very expensive for what they consisted of. The lasagna, leak and broccoli had a nice sauce but mainly broccoli . The chickpea concoction was very lacking in chickpeas. The salad is fine. It is a pleasant place to meet friends, as long as you wrap up well, because no one bothers you.

I tried this restaurant for the first time the other day after someone reccomended it at work. Very impressed with the relaxed atmosphere and delicious, hearty, home-cooked food. I'm not a vegetarian but I do like (unpretentious) vegetarian food, which is what this place serves. Friendly staff and great value. Only feedback is it would be great if the menu was published online.

Have been going here for many years & althought the food is still great, we noticed yesterday that 1 of the younger staff serving was a bit stressed. Never had this before so maybe need a bit of customer service training.....

My first visit to this restaurant and I wasn't disappointed. The food was amazing, so tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful with my allergy. Will definitely come again very soon.

Really like this place for a lunchtime visit, lovely food in a very friendly atmosphere. I think the only reason its not always packed is because its hidden away in a back street. We will, as ever, be back.

Homemade vegetarian meals. Lovely salads and cakes too. Quite dated decoration but to be honest it adds to its uniqueness. Not an accessible restaurant unfortunately as it has a deep staircase to climb.

The food was lovely and they had great options. Rate to go into somewhere as a veggie and to have a whole menu to look through.

Beautiful food in a heart warming little hidden gem of a restaurant. Incredible selection of salads which come with a variety of fantastic main dishes. Ideal for a light lunch, or a bigger meal if you’re hungry. We will be going out. Loved it, thank you!!

Quite a limited and old fashioned menu but the food tasted good and the staff were friendly

Enjoyed lunch here with family. Great vegetarian choice of homemade meals and fresh salad. Was very busy despite it being a midweek lunch, I’ll book next time as was lucky to get a table. Wish they did evening meals. Pleased they now accept card payment as it was a pain when cash only. Highly recommend 👍

Very homely vegetarian and vegan food , and the cakes are amazing. The decor is like a step back in time.

Come and have fresh food you wish you could cook at home. What you see on my tray was under £10. And they accept card now. Love it.

I've been coming here for over 35 years!! It's one of Leicester's greatest little institutions, great then and great now. Good wholesale vegetarian and vegan food and their help-yourself salad is always fresh and delicious. It's such a shame they've stopped doing their fruit crumbles. Bring it back!!! Once you discover this hidden gem you will always come back again and again.

Love this place went for lunch with Hubby I ate fat too much as the vegan meal was amazing Friday lunch times are booked most weeks as Hubby finishes at lunch time. Lovely people that come in and chat as well feels like a home from home kind of place with really friendly and helpful staff 👍😋

Visited today for lunch with my friend. The staff are alway's friendly & welcoming. The tables we noticed were spaced apart allowing for socially distanced diners. Everywhere looked spotless including the toilet facilities. We also noted that decorating had taken place with a lovely new carpet installed. Our meal of butternut squash with goats cheese risotto & lentil shepherd's pie with large salad was delicious. We made sure that we had enough room for their famous carrot cake afterwards. We are biased but considering everything is freshly made in house on a daily basis we think this represents exceptional value for money. We would not hesitate to recommend this gorgeous little gem of a family run restaurant the next time you are in the city centre - you won't be disappointed!

Great choice of foods and good prices

I have been a fan of The Good Earth for some time and was intrigued as to how they would adapt to covid-secure guidelines. Brilliantly, is the answer! They take you to a table, give you the day’s disposable menu, and when you’re ready you go to the till to order and pay. Food came about 20 minutes later and was absolutely delicious. They made a much prettier salad plate than I could have done too. Two mains, two juices and two teas was £20, and they now take cards. The place has clearly been deep cleaned over lockdown as the carpet looked especially vibrant. Hurrah for The Good Earth.

The Service here used to be brilliant now it's quite challenging. Have waited for the food 25 mins now & only one other table.

I went there last Friday with my friend for lunch and was not disappointed. I had roasted vegetables with wedge potatoes, perhaps a touch too much garlic together with a pot of camomile tea and my friend has leek and stilton pie both came with a little salad and French stick and it made a change to have butter with it, very delicious. The surroundings were very calming and relaxing would definitely recommend it.

We called in for lunch last week. The food was excellent and there were several different vegan options available. The staff were very friendly and were constantly cleaning and wiping down surfaces which was very reassuring. The atmosphere was very welcoming and we can't wait to go back

Love this place, best cake in Leicester, fact

I'd known about this place for a while, and I'm happy I finally decided to have lunch there. I was positively impressed with the courtesy and the kindness of the people who work there, and, considering the circumstances, I was happy to see their commitment and attention to the safety measurements that are in place due to covid. They say the menu is less varied than than the usual, however, they still offer a very good variety of food. I was satisfied with the drink - a glass of very good home-made lemon juice - and the food - broccoli leek and cheese pie. My only suggestion is to substitute the bread that comes with the pie with something lighter within the price of the dish. Maybe a small portion of green salad. I would eat there again.

I have known the Good Earth for many years. It never does disappoint - tasty, enjoyable food. The rissotto and salad were wonderful. Cannot wait to go again.

Well worth a visit, the Good Earth has been around for what feels like all my life! The food is just fantastic, and it's a great little hideaway that never seems to get too crowded, just busy enough to create an atmosphere. On of Leicester's best-kept secrets!

I had Soup, Vegetarian Curry with Rice and Naan Bread and desert which I really enjoyed and it was all delicious.

Mum used to bring me here as a child and now my daughters enjoy the food here. It's not changed much. Always try and pop in whenever I'm in town. An oasis of calm and tranquility. Their salads are so fresh and tasty and love the cooked from scratch wholesome mains. Rissoles are a favourite. Usually do a 'cake away' too...has to be done. NB its cash only here.The Pot Pourri shop next door, I believe owned by the same family, is well worth a visit too. They make their own essential oils and these go into some beautiful, reasonably-priced gifts and joss sticks...they smell amazing!

Came here by change of circumstances and arrived for supper club night ( normally would have to book) set 3 course meal for £14.95. Very fresh tasty food will definitely visit again.

I had passed this off the main road restaurant a couple of times. However, with my wife on a busy pre Christmas Saturday we popped in for a bite to eat.What a revelation, beautifully freshly prepared main dishes and salads, plus the most incredibly awesome cakes.The Grueyere and Mushroom Risotto was incredibly tasty.It wasn't busy, so service was never a problem.It is cash only, but that wasn't a downside to me either.

I love this restaurant. Great variety of vegetarian meals and sumptuous homemade cakes. I’m not vegetarian but this is one of my favourite places to eat in town. Service is always super friendly and such a cosy place to take a break from the hustle & bustle of town. A real treasure for Leicester!

Known of this place for years and never been met a friend in town and ended up in here I found the atmosphere and the quirkiness great there is so much to look at I found the food fresh and full of flavour will be going again

It was my first visit to the Good Earth Restaurant.I really enjoyed my visit and the food was very good and the wait times was short considering it was a Friday night. The staff were friendly and courteous.The only downside was they do not acceptable payment by card. Overall it was good value for money.

My first time here even though I'm veggie and Leicester born and bred. Had to sit upstairs because it was busy downstairs and had to keep my coat on because it was very cold. Paid £1.50 for a 17p bottle of ASDA sparkling water. Food was ok but felt it was overpriced...was given an exceptionally small plate to try and put my salad on. I wont be going back.

I could live here!!! Superb food always fresh and plenty of choice. Xxx
