Golden Rice Bowl in Powys

The food here is absolutely appalling, I will never order from here again, the chicken smells and tastes weird.

I love the food it’s just a bit pricey for my family of 5 to feed 5 of us including the dog is £80

I couldn't eat mine, chicken was not fresh, weird texture. Not impresed at all

Always had great food from here

The food here is ok but the customer service is shocking. The young lad who answers the phone there has a terrible attitude - but I guess when you're 12 years old, having to work instead of being able to play out or whatever, you're not going to be the chirpiest chap. The same goes for the older girl - terrible attitude both on the phone and when you go in to collect the food. Given that this place was recently issued a food standards rating of 0/5 (3 august 2023), plus the fact that there is a new Chinese takeaway on Middleton St, I wouldn't recommend this one.

Big family cottage holiday and one night we did Chinese takeaway which we found the Golden Rice Bowl. We gave a big order and lots of varying meals, the telephone call was pleasant, clear and concise. We picked up our food 30 minutes later, it was packaged perfectly in a big box and smelt beautiful. The whole meal was delightful and there was not one complaint from anyone! It was fresh, tasty and well made. I always have the shredded beef and mine was spot on. Another place we will factor in to our holiday next time we visit. Hudson's 10/10

I have a take-away every week from The Golden Rice Bowl - the chicken balls are ENORMOUS and the sauce is perfect. I also order the Chicken Cantonese Style. However, on Wednesday May 19th, there might have been a different chef as the two orders were SO salty or had way too much MSG - my sodium levels went through the roof and I was drinking water all night! Such a shame as the food is usually excellent!

Recommended by our air bnb but possibly the worst Chinese we’ve ever had. Everything frozen and reheated. You’re better off going to the tesco down the road and getting a microwave Chinese which would save you money and taste better.

Chicken rock hard, tough, cheaper but that don't mean it's good, 25 mins wait. tofu too well done also.. Will pass on this

A very nice Chinese meal, served very quickly, piping hot and still very warm, by the time I got home about 10 miles away. Will be going back again next time I'm in town.

Ordered my take away and it was on time, staff friendly. Food was well cooked and tasted nice would come again. Cash only.

With all the allure of a chinese border post and boxes of eggs on the table i was met by a friendly young man who took my take away order. Returning at the appointed time it was not ready. A young girl ignored me as she played on her mobile, the young man, having been called from the back apologised, called into the kitchen to remedy the matter. After a bit of argy bargy the meal was ready. if you want to save on chewing gum order the beef in black bean sauce! The chicken was just some chewy bits in over glutomised sticky stuff. Prawn crackers surprisingly ok.

Been here loads of times, and every time I had great service and the food is always up to high standards. The young Lad who works there deserves a pay rise as he was incredibly charming and social.The sweet and sour pork was delicious and the duck wraps were exquisite.If you are ever near this place I recommend having a meal there, although i believe they should use card machines as paying with cash can be a pain, other than that this Takeaway was unbelievable and my tummy approves! :)

I have been here multiple times and it has been beautiful. The duck pancakes made me cream myself as they were exquisite and i could feel it against my tongue. I do believe that having a card machine would help with the overall experience. I am definitely going to cum again.

Such a disappointment after have read the ratings and reviews. We ordered an early evening meal, crispy duck, chicken sweet and sour, ribs, beef in oyster sauce. I am sure (other than the beef) it was reheated leftovers from lunchtime. The duck wasn’t at all crispy just dry and leathery. The chicken chewy and dried out as were the ribs. The beef was OK. Thirty five pounds wasted, lesson learned, never again.

Food was over cooked. Chips tasted like they had been cooked several times and were stone cold. They do not take cards and clearly rely on the fact that they have little in the way of competition. Never again.

Very hit and miss, always order the same few dishes, sometimes fresh and delicious other times disappointingly bland or odd tasting,service also pot luck

The staff were really nice and efficient, but to not have card payment in this day and age is shocking. By the time I'd got to a cash machine, got back and paid then got our food home, we had to re-heat it all. Food was very good though.

We ordered 6 meals for a birthday treat .. Clearly most of the meat in all of the meals was over cooked as a result of being re heated… Really very disappointed.. The duck in plum sauce was tasteless…The lemon chicken was dry .. The pork balls were the only freshly cooked item ..they were nice…. I can’t from this dreadful order recommend this place .. sorry ..

I thought prawn crackers are white not golden brown. They taste like a 3yr old dirty fryer.

I came here years ago and wasn't keen, but they've improved. We had an excellent meal from here so I'll be going back!

Delicious food, and a wide selection. They are cash only, so make sure you go to the cash point first.

Unfortunately tried for first time waited an hour and food was on side waiting to be given for approx 20 minutes however myself didn’t know it was mine, then had to rush Partner to A&E with severe sickness cause Food poisoning from the Lemon chicken as only had eaten that all day

Great food but terrible wait, 45 mins after collection time. Would rather realistic times, I could have waited at home. Staff very apologetic.

Called ahead to order two dishes and some rice, turned up and they had misplaced our order so had to wait outside for 15 minutes while it was being made. It didn’t taste too bad but could tell the quality of beef was bad. My boyfriend had the beef in black been sauce and he’s currently sweating in pain next to me on the sofa! Just terrible. I don’t usually bother to write a review but this needed to be said. Also could have done with a card machine as had to run to the cash point to pay.

Have lived in the area for almost 7 years, but never used the rice bowl before, big mistake, food was excellent and service first class. Will definitely be using again.

Have visited here many times over the years, the last visit was very disappointing. Crispy shredded beef was literally deep fried batter in a watery chilli sauce, no beef to be found. Ribs tiny and burnt. Not sure if this was a one off, but wasn’t great.

Always seem to have exactly what I want. Dunno how they do it. 🤔😏

My husband recently drove 8 miles from our caravan to collect a Chinese from here on my birthday. It was delicious! Everything was hot, not greasy or overly salty. Shame they don't deliver to surrounding villages.

Decided to venture out for a take away while spending a few days just outside Llandrindod Wells. Found the golden rice bowl and wasn’t disappointed, reasonably priced and the food was good.

The worst take away Ive ever had!!!Everything swimming in vinegar and no taste!Awful!!Will never order there.The only good tjink about this is nice staff and quick service.Otherwise very poor!!

Stayed nearby during our holiday and decided to try this Chinese takeaway. Turned out to be one of the best we'd ever had! Huge portions and very tasty. Wish they were in our home town! Highly recommended 😁

Had special chow main from there last knight.let me tell you there was nothing special about it.lol. I had one prawn in it .two pieces of dried grisly pieces of beef.and also managed to be tasteless and very greasy. And today I'm suffering with a bad stomach lol. Very very poor.

Visiting the area in campervan, thought a chinese would be nice. Search nearby and up popped this little gem......quick, efficient, great selection including thai, and it was superb! I've kept a menu for next time were passing through 😊
