Got a take away for our family whilst staying nearby. It was awful, cold , watery ,tasteless. Avoid eating here , no one finished their meal

I got food poisoning from there as did my mum whom i treated to it will never be going there again absolutely Dreadful food was definitely not cooked properly we had various chicken dishes from here never will i be recomending it to anyone or going there again

Incredible tasting food. You know it will be a good Chinese when you walk into the room that looks like their home and they’re busy cooking away. Really tastes good, one of the best takeaway Chinese I’ve had. Highly recommend, in particular the munchie box

Not sure why so many negative reviews about this place, not the experience we had at all. Food was ready to be collected promptly at the time we were told. The food was really nice and the portions were very generous, we spent £30 for 2 people but it could have easily fed 3 or 4. Recommend giving them a go.

Called to make an order that was over £60, the wait was an hour we told them we don’t mind. When giving the order we was told “Hurry up you’re wasting my time” .. We was literally reading off what we wanted. The staffs attitude was awful! We got the food it was cold, it had clearly been sitting there for ages. Chips was warm ups and soggy, fried rice seemed like it was frozen which was strange. The over all experiences was expensive and terrible, I’d say avoid this place

Lovely little take away. No longer eat in restaurant since covid, but still great, freshly cooked food to take away. Don't expect fast service, as food is cooked to order! We always treat ourselves to food from here whilst camping on Shell Island at least once - luxury camp food 🤣

Ordered this evening. Food was fresh, hot and absolutely lovely! We live in Harlech but normally get Chinese food in Porthmadog. Tried the Golden Inn tonight, very good indeed. Thanks 👏 Fillet steak in black pepper sauce, duck with ginger and spring onions, salt and pepper ribs. Gorgeous.

Just don't bother, I've never written a 'bad' review but this place deserves it. A hair in the starter, and the curry sauce you could plaster a wall with. Waste of money, awful food. Pretty sure they work on the basis that people will only go there once.......so they don't care.

It is one of the two or three take aways in the village. Delicious food, good portions at the very affordable price. Cash only unfortunately, but the cash point near the castle. Thank you.

WORST Chinese I’ve ever had - my black bean dish was like water and beef was like chewing carpets. Very strange vibe like you’re walking into someone’s house. Do not recommend.

Bit of a hoot. Great food. Not in the slightest bit greasy (which is rare for many Chinese takeaways). Paying for your food via a small hatch under a plastic screen is a riot (those pesky Covids clearly haven’t worked out how to get under those screens after all this time) but apart from the Covid lunacy, the food is great and so don’t hesitate to go there.

This was the only Chinese restaurant we could find in the local area. Inside it was poorly lit and in need of a makeover. That said the food was very good and it's obviously popular with the locals as many orders were made on the takeaway side of the business. We four were the only diners in the restaurant and it seemed to take an age for our meals to arrive, but they were enjoyable nevertheless. Would we go there again, the answer is Yes

We were last here over a year ago & I remember the food being acceptable but nothing special. This time round it was definitely below mediocre. Salt & pepper chicken wings were decent enough but the salt & pepper chips were really soggy. Both our main courses were bulked out with green bell peppers that were undercooked & far too crunchy, loads of onions too & not a lot of chicken. It's the only Chinese around though. Next time I'll make my own.

i ordered egg fried rice and it tasted like an ash tray. I felt as if I was eating a pouch of tobacco obviously someone had been smoking in the kitchen and it had just gotten too my food

We were pretty disappointed unfortunately :( we ordered 2 bags of spring rolls and after eating a couple and questioning the taste, realised that they had small pieces of meat. When we went back to ask for them to be changed, we were met with rudeness and asked why we ate 2 of them then? But the taste was mild and it was only upon seeing the meat that we knew. Always want to give the benefit of the doubt. It seems like a lovely place in a lovely town and they gave us 3 bags to compensate, however one of them also had meat in it. Left pretty sad as haven’t had meat in 8 years and we had already left and couldn’t make it back. :( it was unfortunate ~ hope they take this in to account because it really wasn’t too nice

We are from here twice in our recent stay. First was a Friday night and had the 45min wait but was told that. The lady that serves has a austere manner but with a sense of humour. Food was piping hot and very tasty. Comments made about ribs being bland we had both times very good. We did have one meal missing but to be clear don’t know if I missed off or was miss heard but plenty in portion size and ample to cover missing meal.

Had takeaway last night for five, so had a wide variety if dishes. Portions were generous, and food tasted good - so dont beleive every negative review you see! Just remember they only take cash (odd in this contactless world), but there is a free cash machine 200m away, at junction with Harlech Castle.

Little treat to end a hard weekend on a children's camp. Waiting area had a carefully curated atmosphere with a slightly eclectic range of seating options available. Wide range of menu options which could be stressful if you are also as indecisive as me! Please note: prawn toast had a similar taste and appearance to chicken - nice but not expected.

We were staying near by and fancied a chinese. Lovley service from the lady at the till even told us about a local place with nice views that we could eat. Food was really good definetly reccomend the chicken fried rice we will be coming again the next time were on holiday

We ordered Chinese from here last night and order here every time we visit Harlech. The wait was a bit longer than the 35 minutes they said on the phone but they were very busy. They’re only open for takeaway at the moment but food was delicious as always and we really enjoyed it! And for £26 for three of us with mains and sides each, I think it was really reasonably priced. Not sure what the bad reviews are all about, we would definitely recommend here

Great prices for a seaside takeaway. 40 minute wait in busiest times. There's a car park opposite and a two car parking bay right outside where you can park for free for 20 minutes

Had to return after 45 mins for them to cook, thats cool but after checking when we picked it up one dinner was missing and there would be a further 30 mins plus wait to receive this. Chips were dry and the ribs were dry and bland seemed old? The vegetable chow mein was really nice however. Info for others...There is no mention of ingredients / allergies on the menu and limited possible? vegetarian options ( unsure as may be cooked in animal fat) .. no vegan . No tofu I could see on menu. Sorry to only leave 2 star but think good to know to improve?

Not the best takeaway experience, but the food was just about edible, people are certainly right with the "faulty towers" comments and had a fifty-minute wait on a quiet night in October

In respond to Aled John Edwards's review. It is 100% not possible that you have ordered food from Golden Inn as they were closed for almost 2 months for renovation. There are witnesses and prove for that and your bad review will be reported to Google. Your action is not appreciated knowing it is already hard for business owners during toughest period.

Lovely food, bit different to our local, but when in Rome.. Customer service was lovely, polite on the phone & timescales were accurate.

We visited this takeaway, whilst on holiday. We were a little hesitant, after reading the previous reviews, but we needn't have worried. The service was great, fast preparation of food, and one of the best chow meins and special fried rice we've ever had. So much so, we went back for a second time in the same week. Can highly recommend

Here on holiday with no previous experience I wasn’t sure having read some reviews but the family wanted Chinese. I found ordering easy half hour wait, prices excellent and portions huge. The lady who took the order was very pleasant apologies for the wait+5 minute!! But most importantly I found the quality excellent as did all of the family; so I recommend it fully. The interior is old and clearly the restaurant is out of use but it’s a take away and on that score did the job perfectly

Don't be fooled by the interior. They are a busy chinese which tells you all you need to know. The food is good. You may have to wait if you don't phone through and order but then that's good because you know its fresh. And this was. Fresh, piping hot and tasty. Will use again.

We ordered at 5:30 pm for a 7:00 pm pick up. Lady on phone told us they can only take cash. All sweet. Food was ready at 7:00pm. Two serves of spring rolls. Fried rice. Crispy Sechwan Beef. Chicken with cashews in yellow bean sauce. Cost £26. My ratings: Spring Rolls 9/10. Hot, tasty, perfect. Rice 8/10. Rice is rice…..didn’t expect egg in plain fried rice, but tasted ok. Sechwan Beef 10/10. Spicey with red peppers, onion and chillies in a sticky sweet sauce. Beef really crispy sesame batter but tender. Couldn’t have been better! Chicken in Yellow Bean Sauce. Only 5/10 as though fine - couldn’t find any sight or taste of yellow beans. None at all! So overall (and compared with some other ratings) really happy with our meal. It’s a real ma and pa set up. He cooks. She does front of house. Enjoy!

Went there based on good reviews, so may just be an off night, but based on what we just attempted to eat and threw most of away, I cannot recommend this place!

Very tasty meals at a reasonable price. The only issue I had was that our food order was not ready on time and as we were staying on Shell Island (which is only accessible at low tide) we were on a right time limit. If you’re ordering a takeaway while staying on Shell Island, make sure you leave plenty of time to order as wait times can be around an hour!

Very poor customer service, on asking to have a dish without egg due to allergy had the phone put down on me, I called back and it was very hard to get a word in even though I was advising the person on the phone I had eaten from the take away before. Shocking attitude towards customers it seems! Avoid!

Without doubt the worst Chinese I have ever been to. Go hungry or drive for hours and go somewhere else than visit this place.

Great food but customer services was terrible. Ordered my food and they told me to come back in 40 mins. Came back after 40 mins and still waited a extra hour and 20 mins.

We are a family of 9 holidaying in the area. We were almost put off by the reviews but as there really wasn’t a lot of choice thought we thought we would give it a go. We were pleasantly surprised, it was good food, ready on time, and reasonably priced. Would use again and have left a menu in the holiday let as accessing a legible menu was the hardest part. It is currently takeaway only.

We read reviews before visiting and almost didn’t go here, but to save an extra thirty minute round trip we decided to try it out for ourselves-and we’re pleasantly surprised. We ordered at 5pm when first opened and was served by a lovely helpful lady. Food was ready within 30 minutes and could only pay with cash-which was fine as we were prepared from reading previous reviews. We had enough food from the menu to feed 8 of us and all were really satisfied-no problem with our food or order whatsoever. Don’t be put off by previous reviews as we almost were. Prices were average, chip shop next door was handy for kids food too.

The staff do not have a clue what they are doing, very confused as to who ordered what, despite giving you an order number to quote! The food was the most bland Chinese I have ever tasted. It went straight in the bin, and I am not a fussy eater, but if I do like it to taste of something. The interior is filthy and in serious need of redecoration. Needless to say that will be my one and only visit ever!

Had a 90 minute wait for an order that was supposed to be ready in 45 minutes! They only take cash payments and won’t give a receipt, they then shortchanged us by £5 and would not put this right. The woman that served us was rude, aggressive and shouted at us. The food is poor to average and the service is the very worst...If I could give zero as a rating I would. Save yourself the aggro and go somewhere else, this dreadful place is really not worth the hassle.

Pretty decent. Good helpings, tasty, quick takeaway service, reasonable price. Friendly staff. Will use again next time we're down this way.

Ignore any bad reviews. It deserves a high rating. We use it regularly and it's consistently good food.

I’ve read the bad reviews on here but in my opinion the takeaway I’ve just eaten from here was excellent. Probably the best Chinese takeaway I’ve ever had. Tasty and reasonably priced. It was very busy and the wait wasn’t any longer than you would expect. I recommend the Golden Inn it was lovely.

Been here a few times this year on trips to wales. The food is really amazing even if you do have to wait now and again. I'd definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area.

On holiday and decided to get a Chinese from golden inn in Harlech . We went back in 40 mins and was still not ready . When got home , one of the meals was missing . Poor service and didn’t seem to know who had ordered what . Definitely don’t recommend

Ok if you like bland! Wouldn't last 5 mins in a bigger town...on the upside we are no longer hungry!

This is a very unattractive looking takeaway with tables on Harlech high street. I was on my own and just need a quick meal so thought what the heck. Pleasantly surprised at the good food and large portions. It’s a “mom and pop” place so don’t expect to be waited on hand and foot. It’s simple and good. I’d eat here again, no problem.

....But seriously don't bother. Ordered takeaway at 18:45 - was told 45min wait so we went for a drink to pass the time. Returned as instructed at 19:30 & noticed other people who had ordered at same time as us waiting for their orders. Worryingly there was a family of 4 who were "eating in" on their starters when we initially went in to order & i was astounded to then witness them getting their mains (piece meal) at around 20:00! I whispered to my husband that they had waited an hr & a 1/4 between starters & mains! We (aka takeaway customers) were all sitting round & waiting by the door - & there was a general exchange of looks which indicated we were all thinking the same thing.Next minute the woman who took our order is berating the chef (in chinese) - theres only 2 of them in there - he's running in & out from the kitchen to the "restaurant" which was housing a fridge at the back whilst still getting haranged by the very angry chinese lady! She then graps a box of Colas & hands us all a can - by now its 20:15. I think most of us were too scared to decline no doubt reticent at being on the receiving end of her tongue! The poor chef continued to get tongue lashed by the women who we all assumed was 'helping' him as the shouting coincided with much banging of pans! Then miraculously she appeared from the kitchen with an order, followed by our order - the time now being 20:30.We were so hungry having now waited 1 & 3/4 hrs for 2 takeaway meals - which i hasten to add were bland beyond bland - & to add insult to injury they'd forgotten the prawn crackers!!Never ever again butthe evening did provide some amusement at least!!

Well I thought the visit here was lovely. The staff where very helpful and friendly. They are very outgoing. The food was just enjoyable, we all enjoyed it. Well done to you all and thank you 😊

After reading the reviews we got chicken fried rice to test the place out before we got a full takeaway, using my younger brother as a Guinea pig. Service was quite quick but then again we only had 1 item ordered. The rice was okay but quite forgettable - not as good as other places I've tried. So we didnt get a full takeaway and we went to fish and chip shop instead.

Whilst tucking into my beef and black bean sauce I found a enormous moth. I would not recommend this place as its clearly a health hazards.

Astonishing experience not to be missed, for all enthusiasts of "Fawlty Towers" customer service experiences. Perfectly appointed in the shadow of Harlech Castle, the interior failed abysmally to live up to the magical surrounds.A twelve minute wait for the hostess to lay the only table with a paper cloth followed. Our group of touring golfers, after ordering platters of aromatic crispy duck, bottles of beer plus the one bottle of Tesco claret was available,then had a forty minute interlude which was punctured by the hurling of three bags of prawn crackers onto the table with the hostess shrieking "made from the finest pig fat"!!The steaming cold duck came with plum sauce of a consistency matched only by the best gloss paint. Upon running out of Chinese beer after one round the group accepted bottles of Bud.I cannot comment on the state of the downstairs toilet as the first member to go down (height 5'7") smashed his head on the lintel and never made it there.Orders of ribs, noodles and house speciality (sizzling steak peking style) was served after about an hour and was of good quality but only five main portions were available. Apart from presenting the plates like a discus thrower the hostess was remarkably reluctant to provide any cutlery unless cajoled. It was clear this was mainly a take away establishment as at one point the chef showed himself, he looked completely shattered.The hostess then informed us she knew all about golf, but revealed her family name - Yip. Says it all!

Really enjoyed our takeaway last night, tasty and good size. Service was very good and the lady was very chatted with us and other customers in Chinese, English and Welsh! Enjoyed.

Waited an hour for food. Was told it would take 20mins! When the food came OMG I have never tasted anything like it in my life!!! Pure grease, over cooked in parts and under cooked in others! Looked like it had just come out the bin. I’m not too surprised as the woman serving looked slightly unkempt. Never ever again. If I could score it -100 out of 10 I would.

I went to this local take away restaurant whilst on holiday. I ordered two meals for my husband and I as a treat, I was told it would take 35 minutes- I arrived at this shabby ‘restaurant’ after 30 minuets..... another 40 minutes passed by, I politely asked how long my food would be - 4 minutes, 4 minutes I was told. Another 15 minutes passed by and I got my food. I went back to my apartment to find the ‘chicken’ under cooked and the noodles rock solid and freezing cold (imagine super noodles from the supermarket) I took one bite and thought I should return this food. I bagged up my food and took it back to say it really wasn’t acceptable. This is where I was faced by the nastiest person ever, I politely said that this food was not acceptable, the ‘lady’ screamed at me that she had been doing this for 30 years and how dare I complain!! I simply said that here is the food, please may I have a refund... I was told that all I would get was £10, I tried to argue my case but was getting nowhere. I accepted the £10 as I didn’t want to cause a fuss.... as I was walking out I heard the woman call me a ‘stupid lady’ I went back and asked her why she would call me that, she just was screaming get out get out! I have never had such terrible food or service in my life. It’s a shame because it’s the only takeaway in this area.

We turned up just before closing and they kindly took our order. The food was fresh and the best flavours we have experienced in years.

Cant complain too much about the food - As for the waiting, ive had to have 2 shaves, cut my hair twice & watched the complete box set of only fools & horses Before we got our food...If your not in a rush, this place is perfect, if youve got things to do by the year 2500 BC id think about going elsewhere !!

Good food, mostly to take away. Last time I have been there there was only one guy working alone for all the take away orders and serving clients which took long time to cook the food. However, the food was very tasty. I would recomend as a take away

Alle aanbevolen horecazaken waren dicht of volgeboekt dus wij Chinezen. Eerste indruk wat klein en weinig plaats, de bazin nogal stuurs van uitzicht. Veel take away das een goed teken. Bleek dat de waardin vroeger in Rotterdam verbleef en nog vrij behoorlijk Nederlands sprak. Meteen was het ijs gebroken en madame bleek heel opgewekt.

Says its open 7 days but I think they don't bother opening as much off peak season. If the owner could leave a note on the door that would be good.

Our first visit to harlech and had such a pleasant takeaway from here. The lady greeted us with open arms and super friendly. Gave us free prawn crackers whilst we waited which we took up to a veiwing point down the road overlooking the sea and the castle whilst we waited. The food was cooked beautifully. Would definitely go back again when we are next there

We had a lovely meal here. The restaurant has such a friendly atmosphere. Everyone is treated like old friends. A special thanks to those kind people who helped my husband Ray when he had a fall, and stayed with him until the ambulance arrived.

We got a takeaway from The Golden Inn whilst staying in Harlech for the weekend. We were pleasantly surprised by the food - it was good and ready on time.

Food was lovely. Had to wait a while though as it was a bit of a one man band. But after a long drive, it was more than welcome.

I would've given less but for the fact the food was cooked and when I say cooked I mean not raw because that's the only way the tasteless,unseasoned and congealed rubbish we got could have been worse. Chicken wings where fatty, prawns where like rubber and noodles where sloppy, no taste to anything and portion size very small. Don't go here if you like flavour. Very very poor quality.

Great food, and friendly, it's like going back in time to 1978s China Town, but don't let that put you off the food is great.

Great food, really yummy. Have eaten here twice now in the last 2 years (we're not locals) and enjoyed it both times. Would be 5 stars if the atmosphere and facilities were better. No back ground music makes it a bit awkward when its quiet. But the food would get 5 every time 😁

After reading reviews was very sceptical about going. But we weren't disappointed food was good and ready on time. We had a wide selection of food and all was good.

Down for a couple of days with friends who know this place well.. After reading a few reviews and even our b&b; host not that keen on the place we where a bit optimistic about going...how wrong every one was..lovely friendly welcome followed by an absolutely wonderful meal..nothing was left we ate everything.. unbelievably cheap too...don't believe all the rubbish reviews about this place..there is nothing wrong with it...would recommend!

Firstly, I love Chinese food and genuinely have realistic expectations of takeaway food. I wish I had checked TA before getting a takeaway from The Golden Inn. Truly appalling. The worst Chinese food I have ever had, including buffets and supermarket meal deals. Real low points were the Crispy Seaweed (flaccid, dripping in grease), the Chicken Chow Mein (didn’t touch the ‘chicken’, very oily and utterly tasteless) and the Prawn Toasts (wet, greasy, odd smell). How does this place remain open in a lovely town like Harlech? Such a huge disappointment and we were seriously glad that we didn’t order very complex food. Just don’t go- it really is that bad!
