Gorgeous fish and chips for Good Friday. All the other food is great too, they do the best kebab in consett. Easy to order using the app also.

I do not recommend to anyone with allergens, including gluten (despite such a big deal being made about the gluten free menu). We tried to order there for the first time tonight, and because my partner suffers from several food allergies, we obviously needed to discuss this on the phone before ordering (including the extent to which gluten is used in the kitchen). We tried to call them for about half an hour (10 calls, spaced out), and tried to contact them via Facebook. We got a few words on Messenger about them checking, then radio silence. Because of this, we could not safely place an order with them. Their website clearly states that you should call to ask about allergens, but obviously this was just a token comment. I understand that places get busy, but for the sake of a minute on the phone to allow people with allergens to access this restaurant, it's unacceptable. Even putting other common allergens on the menu would have been helpful. Very disappointed, and will make sure to share our experience with other gluten free / food allergy social media groups for the area, so other people with don't waste their time.

Very nice, lovely fish not a bone in sight. Chips a bit dark, but still nice, lashings of salt and vinegar what more do you want, well recommend.

Great chippy and great food, never had a bad meal from here, fish and chips, kebabs both best in the area. Staff are great and very friendly and helpful too, def recommend if you’ve never been!

How does a fish and chip shop on the outskirts of an old deprived mining town get to charging over £10 for take away fish and chips? And might I say, the chips were bland as could be. I can get the same (but delightfully tasty) meal at Papa John's in Whitby, and pay less than you do here. What more needs to be said!

Easily the best chipper in Consett area. All of the food is home made, but can be hit and miss. Overall I'd recommended a visit. The classics are certainly good and a lot of effort is made to stand out. Most chippers in the area score a 1 or a 2, so 4 is a good score.

Good food. Worth the price. We had Veg burger and breaded cod fish. Service is nice and fast. Great choice of dips. Parking is little difficult; we parked on the opposite kerb.

Food is lovely, customer service is none existent, wait times are beyond the joke, order for a specific time and they still have you waiting more than 20 mins after accepted time. No apology. Do not expect fast pleasent service from here

Don’t be put off if you see the shop busy, it’s because they’re cooking everything fresh to order and the fish is always cooked so well. Very friendly staff and home made brownies are delicious. The kebabs are huge, you also get the option of a free portion of chips or pot of sauce. Notes: Card and cash accepted. Order on the app or in person. Street parking available. Lunchtime offers.

Best Fish n Chips in the UK nevermind the North East. Fish is cooked to order just how you like it. Portions are so large I've never known anyone finish a whole meal. Amazing choice of other foods on the menu with monthly specials. Great value Lunchtime Specials and the kebabs are something else. Can't rate this shop, food and staff highly enough. You won't be disappointed.

Best fish and chips I’ve ever had! We eat here at least once a week. The quality of food is so much better than any of the other chippys around Consett. Highly recommend the fish and chips, cod leak and cheddar fishcake and the cheese patty!

Best fish and chips in the area, but make sure you order ahead especially on a Friday, or else expect a long queue! Generous portions and a very varied menu of other options if fish is not your thing.

I collected an online order today at 4.30pm Normally the quality is 2nd to none, today however was not up to scratch. The fish was smaller and chip portion also smaller. I live 5 minutes away and they were both luke warm when opened. I noticed that the fish and chips were in the heated cabinet when I was served this may have had a difference with being warm them being warm not hot.

So lovely food. I recommend all to take its taste!

I'm not sure how this place makes a profit!! The portions are HUGE!!.... even a kid's meal is massive!! All the staff are great and very helpful. Our food is always lovely. Was in today. By far the best fish and chip shop in the north east. As we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff. Straight away we were asked if we wanted anything putting in the Lan. By the time it was our turn to be served the food came out of the pan. Looked lovely. Golden and crispy batter coating. Must try their home blend of Tartare sauce. Chips were piping hot. We came from North Shields. Best we've ever had. Once a month job for the Cooke's

Called in here for fish & chips as an easy meal, Wow, the fish was the size of a whale and tasted as good as it looked, beautiful white succulent flakey fish, wrapped in a beautiful thin and crispy batter, chips were just as good, didn't wait to long to be served either. I would highly recommend this fish & chip shop and will definitely be returning.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fish n chips are OK, not exceptional in any way. Tonight I stood for a very long time, I was asked what I wanted and they were frying the fish as you ordered it. People were going into the shop to place an order staying there and getting served before those, like me who have waited. They are taking telephone orders as well, I was asked 3 times what I wanted and when I got to the counter there wasn't any fish cooked. There were about 10 people behind me, the fish was taken out of the fat and packed, no time given for it to drain, a soggy mess. My suggestion, 1 person deals with the on line orders, its a fish shop, just cook the fish, give it time to drain and serve customers in the order that they arrive. For sure I will never go there again,

Was okay but a bit expensive 2 sausage and chips a spam fritter and 2 small bottles of pop over £16.20 I'll be thinking twice before going again

These guys never fail to offer the most consistent, delicious fish and chips. This is my first choice fish and chip shop, and has been for several years. Always made to order so lovely and fresh( I phone ahead and collect). A great 'Geordie portion'. No skimping here. Fish a sensible size ( not like some in Consett, who cut the fish in half). Fish and chips are not cheap these days, so value for money is all important! The staff are always pleasant, polite, quick and efficient. Thanks a lot. See you next week.

Got fish bites and chips they were spot on delicious

Had heard so much about this take away but had never tried. Decided to spoil ourselves tonight. Ordered Cod and Chips for my wife and Lemon Sole and Chips for me. Now I will be honest I am not a big fish and chips lover. I had ordered online for 5.30 pick up believing it was all click and collect, how wrong I was. It was disorganised chaos with people crammed in what is a small shop with others standing outside. I eventually got our meal at 5.42, which may not seem bad but remember this was supposed to be collect! The meal in itself my wife enjoyed her cod I found the lemon sole had too much batter and was quite greasy and again to be honest too much chips all rather tasteless. I may go back but not before all this chaos has ended.

This Chippy is a great place for food, large portions and very good quality, very busy shop. My only concern recently is they are allowing people to be in the shop without a mask, I have seen this twice now and it puts me off visiting.

Worth ever penny,wonderful service and food

Once again I had to wait 15 minutes over my collection time which is a bit annoying as it was freezing! This has happened before but honestly can’t fault the food here and I do understand it’s a busy shop & all the staff do a wonderful job. The chicken kebabs are amazing! They are the best by far in the consett area, I won’t go anywhere else for one.

There are decent fish shops in the town but this one beats them all by miles. Quality of food is top notch. Staff are always friendly and I won't go anywhere else. Highly recommended. Well done gfi
