Golden Cafe in Runnymede

Having left the nearby M25 in search of a comfort break and a coffee we chanced upon this lovely cafe. Such a lovely warm welcome we decided to stop for lunch and so glad we did. Tasty chicken escallops, well cooked chips, beautiful crisp fresh salad and a drink, all for £11 Best of all were the smiles from all the staff. Thank you everyone!

I popped in to treat myself to breakfast one Sunday morning - as I'm vegan and coeliac, a lot of the menu was not accessible to me, but I have to say, the staff were absolutely fantastic in checking ingredients and making sure I was well looked after. I had a choose your own breakfast of grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns and baked beans, with a cup of tea with oat milk. The tomatoes and mushrooms were really well cooked (I can't tell you how many times I've had a tiny sliced of barely cooked tomato on a breakfast plate) and the portions were generous. I was really impressed with the warm welcome and energy of all the waiting staff, who were busy, as the cafe is obviously very popular, but were unfailingly friendly and helpful to everyone. I will definitely be back - would be great if they could have a vegan/gf sausage option sometime soon, and maybe some gluten free bread for toast,

Excellent breakfast. Good value. We had turkish and english breakfasts and both well cooked, delicious, large portion size. Set us up for the day well. Welcoming service and easy atmosphere.

Enjoyed a very good breakfast, excellent value, excellent service. All round positive experience. Particularly recommend the Turkish breakfast options as well as the classic english breakfast combinations. Very good coffee also.

Bustling, great-value caff - was staying in Egham for a couple of nights and it was a handy place to come to for breakfast with two friends. Service was quick, efficient and friendly and we all really enjoyed our food. Will definitely be back the next time I'm in Egham.

I went to this Cafe at 2.30pm today and found this place a nice cafe for a large breakfast with a cup of tea. The large breakfast was nice. But the sausage a got with my meal was more like a frankfurter and not so nice. It would be great if they give a proper sausage and good quality. The staff where friendly and service good.

i have used this cafe often via uber or by sunday morning breakfast so thought i know have had a hard night shift i will get a take away breakfast. made order added a coffee great then told "CASH ONLY" its 2021 i had no cash only debit card told garage had a cash machine. thanks but no thanks Never again will i use this cafe even via uber. STUPID TO ONLY TAKE CASH

Huge portion, tasty food & good service. All it needs for a great breakfast. I was filled with positive energy for the whole day.

Thrown together sandwiches, cheap nasty sauce, cheap ham, soggy bread oh and a free hair! So expensive.

I have been to this cafe/restaurant multiple times. The staff are always very friendly and the atmosphere is overall very welcoming. The food is always amazing and the portions are quite filling. There is so much choice at an affordable price! This place is absolutely marvellous and I would highly recommend going there with friends and family.

We went here for Sunday Lunch BUT when we had ordered wen saw the notice board and realised that the cost of a Roast Dinner had been put up to £7.50. The meal we received did not warrant this price. After reading the menu we noticed that all the prices had been put up. The staff were friendly all be it a little slow.

Just came across the Golden Cafe by chance! So pleased we did, food was excellent, so much choice and all cooked really well! Fresh orange juice capped the breakfast off perfectly! Would highly recommend and if we are in the area again we will be coming back!

weather you go for a solo visit or have your christmas works do like we did in 2019 the food is always excellent, friendly warm staff always on hand who can remember what you usually order well worth a visit

I have been going for years and love the place but various issues with overcharging and wrong orders have forced me to go from a rating of five to two. If asked by staff if all ok and you tell them no and what is wrong you get a big sulk and next visit is very uncomfortable with the atmosphere created. Shame.

Simply the best, better than all the rest. When i get married, my reception is gunna be here. When i die, my wake will be here. When i have kids, i will christen them here. Xoxo

Standard greasy fayre found the staff to be more interested in chatting to the locals and amongst themselves than serving our food and drinks Coffee arrived cold and had to send it back Wouldn’t re visit

Come here fairly often with my mates, always can rely on them for good food and service. Nice community feel also!

Love this place and order from here allot. Food is always so tasty. I would reccomend the milkshakes as well especially the banana or coffee ones.

What a fabulous place!!!A typical village cafe where you can eat a delicious almost home cooked meal. The choice is huge. The staff are so friendly and attentive. The food was great! There were five of us for lunch and we all had something completely different. We were all extremely satisfied with our choices. The place has a homey feel about it and the clientele is varied. If you find yourself hungry in Egham go visit Golden Cafe!!

I have been going here for years and have eaten here hundreds of times. Food is always freshly cooked and I have never had an issue. Tea and Coffee always good quality as well and I cannot fault any of the staff.

Whenever I am up this way I always have my lunch in this Cafe. Quick service, impeccably clean and always friendly service. The menu for the day is always tasty, large and extremely good value.

My Son took us there. Excellent and swift service, friendly people, very clean all over and tidy, food and drinks was very good. Location is superb. Really enjoyed outside. Fantastic. This place is going to be our place.

So it’s a hot day... and we came in for some food and my friend asked simply for an iced coffee. Our waiter was confused by this and when we explained what it was he began sulking, and making sarcastic comments throughout the rest of our visit. The sausages looked like they were made out of playdough and it was all a lovely shade of beige. Cheap, for a reason...

This is the perfect British cafe good food reasonably priced and a simple but welcoming atmosphere. We have used it al lot over the years and Ethel food has always been perfect.

With my work colleagues we visit this cafe at least once a week and have always been welcomed by excellent regular friendly staff and receive delicious fresh food. A lot of the clientele are regulars. The extensive menu covers generous portions of roast dinners, daily specials, any breakfast combinations, jacket potato choices and the best salads. All are excellent. The cafe is usually busy from breakfast to close at 5pm Monday to Sunday and I'm sure if they remained open in the evenings they would be busy then too.

It’s a cafe but a really good cafe as they go. Eggs Benedict is really nice. The bacon baguette was good too. Reasonable prices.

The owner cares about his cafe and it shows. The food is simple but plentiful. The service is fast and friendly.

They call cafes Greasy Spoons. Well this is anything but. Lovely food, clean. Good disabled access. On west end of town next to 6th form School. 30 minutes Parking to front. Longer term around corner. Outdoor seating for summer or hardy souls. Full English or Turkish breakfast. Both good

Just perfect really. Foods great, the staff are all really friendly and happy to be there. Bill usually comes in at under a tenner for two. Can’t complain at anything, solid effort 👍

The golden cafe is so cheap for the amount of food you get and the portions are massive! I travelled from Teddington to Egham just for this!

Good food for a really reasonable price in Egham. I had a cheese omelet and it was really tasty. I will come back for sure.

If you're ever after that all day greasy fry up, then you must pop in. Prices are great and the food is delivered promptly by friendly staff who recognise you when you visit and make you feel at home. Kids love the free lollies they get after they have eaten too!!

Never disappointed with this no frills,quick service, and very very clean cafe. Where else would you want to go when you can get good service, friendly staff and some of the best dishes around and at a price to suit all pockets. They go out of their way to help you decide what to have and will customise your requirements, if you don't want the beans with your full breakfast, they will substitute for something else. If you want to add something they will do this as well. The freshly squeezed orange juice is delicious. Spotlessly clean you could eat your food off the tables.

After doing a early morning drop at Heathrow I decided to stop here on my way back to my second job, I was not disappointed I pulled up 10 minutes before opening time ordered at 08:07 served at 08:15 a big good quality breakfast nice clean conditions in cafe

Lazy Sunday. Up late so I thought I'd treat the wife to a late breakfast at the local cafe. When I say local it's a 10 min. drive, but it's worth it. Polite snd friendly table service. Really decent food, the wife upgraded to a cheese and mushroom omelette which looked really good. All in all just what you need if you can't be bothered to knock up a breakfast yourself.

Called in here the other day for the first time. Had a very good experience. Breakfast and coffee were great. I also believe they have wifi although I didn't get the password. Also a nice clean toilet and friendly staff providing table service. I will definitely be back.

Love this place, lovely staff so friendly. Food comes quickly, service is great. Menu is the usual diner type, breakfasts are good, I have also eaten, liver and bacon, gammon and they have a great roast dinner too, plenty of veg and gravy

Took both my little ones for brekky on their first day of holidays. Eve though there we a lot of builders in there we all felt very comfortable. The lady who served us was very polite and was lovely to my children. The food was really good a huge fry up for me and the kids meals were good to. Very happy with the food and service... for a cafe impressed!! Good value too. Kids meal with a drink was £3.30 and my meal which had tea toast and a massive fry up was £6.50.

A great breakfast that we all enjoyed immensely. The service was great and very quick. The breakfast was well cooked and loads of it - almost too much :-) and the place was clean and well kept and even for a Sunday morning very busy. On an added point it was Remembrance Sunday and they had the TV on - when we got to the 11 AM minutes silence everybody in there went quiet. Heartily recommended for breakfasts - oh and the price was very reasonable as well!!

Some workmates had visited previously, and decided they would take me here for a working breakfast. AS I do not eat eggs, I decided to give the set breakfasts a miss, and instead ordered individual items.The bacon and sausage were of a good quality, the beans and tomatoes (I was asked if I would like tinned or fresh) plentiful, the fried bread nice and crisp.If I wanted to be really really picky, I would say that I would have preferred the beans and tomatoes slightly warmer, but that did not detract from my meal.Good produce, well cooked, good service. As it was busy we were well looked after, and I took the fact that it seemed to be continually busy to be a plus point.Somewhere I would willingly return to, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Last minute supper here on a midweek night. Reasonably busy. Lots of Chinese which is always a good sign. Service very friendly albeit slow. Food good - not best had not worst either. Not sure would drag me back in a hurry but then no reason for anyone else not to visit....

Before making our trip to stay in Egham read reviews for places to eat. The Golden Cafe has well deserved good reviews. Food is well cooked and presented by a friendly staff. It is also superb value for money and I unreservedly recommend the cafe to anyone.We had two superb breakfasts there.

Just what you'd be looking for in a cafe, friendly, swift service and good value. Don't recommend the sausages though, had bone in on 2 occasions.

I've got to be honest, the breakfast was very good, apart from the sausages. They tasted like the really cheap value range from Tesco's, not my thing at all. I prefere a good Cumberland. The menus are overloaded and confusing. They should consider a breakfast only menu, and the waiter could not really understand us. I think his English skills were quite poor. Other than that, the service was very friendly, and quick. The cafe was rammed too with builders, so that's a very good sign, and, aperture from the sausages, the rest of the breakfast was very good.

I have used this cafe whenever I am in Egham the service is always excellent as is the food the cafe itself is very clean and presentable

We had an excellent breakfast experience at the Golden Cafe. It was clean and tidy with very friendly staff. We new it would be OK as we arrived as outside the cafe were a number of parked builders vehicles. The menu is a credit to the owner. There are so many choices all with a picture so you know exactly what you are ordering. We gave our order and watched the number of customers arriving. Some stayed to eat in but many ordered take aways. It was really busy. When our breakfasts arrived there was no cutting back on the portions. The sausages were absolutely delicious.All very hot and freshly cooked. Steaming tea arrived with buttered toast. What a great start to the day. All this for £6.00 per head. Great value. Thank you.

Honestly the best cafe I've been too! Pleasant and very helpful staff. Great prices for large servings. Wide range of different foods which all taste spot on. The poor ratings are just stuck up people who claim 'it's not classy' ermm hello it's a cafe not the Hilton!

Food seems OK while you are eating. Later that day ..!! Detox and some!! Never put it down to the cafe at first. Two days later when I was able to eat again. , had breakfast. All seemed ok later oh my God I was in trouble... used the cafe since but for egg on toast .. bacon semi cooked then put in a tub and left more or less on the floor unconerd. Then request nested for your breakfast. Three others I have since spoken too had the same experience. Not too Good at your own risk!!

My husband and I walked pass this cafe on Saturday morning and so glad that we did. We had a excellent full breakfast. Pipeing hot,really friendly staff, all of them smiling and working very hard from what we could see. The food was excellent and plentry of it. Great value for your money. Just a bit further up the high street in Egham but worth the 5 min walk. We recommended some friends to go there this morning. After they had a bad breakfast the day before at a cafe further down the High St. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Golden cafe to eat.

Me and my friends used to frequent this place for breakfast every now and then. Staffs are always friendly. A plus point is that items that you are not fond of can be swapped. Portions are huge and each meal was accompanied by a slice of toast/ fried slice and coffee/tea. Always a great way to start your day!

Came here a year ago for breakfast after dropping off at Ascot. Managed to find the cafe again and wasn't disappointed.

This is a popular place in Egham for breakfast and meals. It is good for snacks and fast meals but is not a classy place. The menu is extense, but all about varieties on a few themes. There is a large choice of breakfast, with several set combinations and the possibility of choosing your own ingredients. The price is around 5£ and up, and sometimes you can find much better deals nearby in The Crown. The atmosphere is nothing remarkable but at least you get satisfaction from the food.

I never had my glasses on and failed to notice the 'Set breakfast menu.' I started to order and I was told it would be £8.50??? Thankfully one of my friends noticed I had ordered the equivalent to one of the menus which came to about £5.50. When I asked the guy serving me, 'Why he was charging me £3 more?' His reply was, 'You were ordering separately and it is always more expensive!' I am of the opinion he could have been more honest and pointed out the 'Set menu board' instead of trying t gain the extra money out of me!! The food itself was very nice and if I was in the area I would use again!

This is a good local cafe to just drop by. The staff are very friendly even when busy which it is sometimes. There is lots of seating inside and also about 3 tables outside. It is clean and there is also WiFi. Xx

I breakfasted here twice during a stay in Egham. The place is clean and welcoming, with a wide choice of individual items, as well as a range of "set meals". The food was all freshly-cooked and very tasty, quite reasonably priced for the quality, and the service was rapid. What more could you want?!

We visited the cafe for Sunday breakfast after a wedding the day before, slightly hungover. This was the perfect antidote. A wide and flexible range of ingredients to make up your ideal breakfast combo, well cooked, swiftly served and excellent value. The staff were friendly and accommodating. All in all a very pleasant experience.

There is always a lack of good proper cafes to satisfy the odd need for a solid fry-up and this place does that job perfectly. I wish that it would take payment cards so I don't have to do a detour to a cash machine but apart from that....very good place and long may it continue.

Good food, good service, great value - very popular all times of day. Seems to attract a broad range of customers including traffic police at the end of their shifts. Good place for my wife to pack me and my son off to for a treat - probably gives her some quiet time too.

I'm a local taxi driver eat in The Golden Cafe most days. It is excellent in every way. My only criticism is it closes way too early. Shutting at tea time 17.00 hrs makes no sense in a busy town like Egham with its huge university.

Popped in after finding this place local to where I was working. It was packed out when I arrived, which is testament to just how good it is. My food was hot, plentiful and good value. Will definitely be back.

I stop in here most weeks for either a takeout 'treat' or a hearty english breakfast! The staff are friendly & efficient, the restaurant super-clean and frankly always busy (a great sign!)..... and the food is exactly as described - Cant fault it! Here's to the next bacon & sausage sandwich....!! :)
