Just wow! I can’t believe we have only just found this place! It is an absolute gem! We had private dining for my 50th birthday and it was perfect in every way! We had the tasting menu which was absolutely delicious l. Every course was a delight and our guests (who are all foodies) all commented on how wonderful it was. The table was beautifully decorated and the service was impeccable and the team were so friendly and accommodating. I loved the fact we could take our own playlist and they moved the table out after dinner so we could have a dance floor! It really could not have been any better and we wouldn’t go anywhere else if we had another celebration meal to plan! . Thank you so much Gimbals for making our night so perfect x

A cool and quirky venue for parties. Nice decor and friendly staff. No longer a restaurant! The vegan options they provided for the party were excellent!

In terms of the fine dining in Calderdale I think Gimbals is one of my favourite.

The brisket takeaway was quite easily there best meal of my life. A large meal so we had the main on Sunday and the rest over the next two days. If i could give ten stars I would. Superb.

We've ordered their take away meal kits a few times now, when we get friends over it's the best way to have an incredible meal at home. Couldn't recommend it more highly. Drop in at a weekend and grab handfuls of their brilliant sweet and savory treats. Just started doing sandwiches which are divine.

Last night we had a fabulous evening/party for my daughters 50th Birthday at Gimbals. Everything was very well organised from start to finish. The food and service was excellent and the whole evening was 100% Special thanks to Janet and her team for a great time Best wishes Doreen & Peter

Had the pleasure to be invited here for a friends wedding celebration the food, service and whole evening was ten out of ten, with the beef cooked to perfection and an enormous portion. Cocktails were great too. My other review is around the takeaway service which is just amazing , the instructions for serving, cooking and re heating made it a real pleasant evening.

Gimbal’s take away menu is the best I’ve done during lockdown. A great deal of thought and planning has gone into making it as simple as possible to prepare when you get home and it very simple indeed. That Gimbals is moving away from being a restaurant is heart breaking… but eased by the fact I can eat the delicious food in the comfort of my own home… not to mention the ever expanding shop section. The shop is offering more and more interesting food and drink which is an absolute thrill!

Had a Gimbals takeaway and we were blown away by the flavours. My husband says we will never be able to eat in the restaurant itself as he wouldn't be able to lick the plates! I even enjoyed his strawberry and gooseberry crumble and I don't like strawberries or gooseberries. Very tender lamb. Delicious crab cakes. Really regret that we didn't discover Gimbals sooner. The people who run it are really kind too, answering our questions via email really promptly. We will be returning without a doubt!

Absolutely amazing flavours. I’ve had two take aways from here recently and both have wowed me. The cooking is very easy with clear instructions. I’ve had lots of take aways from various restaurants over lockdown to support local restaurants and this is by far the best. Fine dining to take away. Fantastic

To call this a takeaway is abit of an understatement, yes you may take it home to warm up but its still restaurant quality dining rather than the usual takeaway of pizza etc. We had a Gimbals takeaway this weekend and it did not disappoint - everything has clear instructions on it and easy to warm up and 30mins later - voila!! Defo recommend a takeaway from Gimbals whilst we’re still in lockdown 😋

We ordered the Valentine's Day meal and had high expectations for the price. I'm pleased to say these were exceeded however with a very cleverly put together meal which was very easy to heat up at home and came with some lovely touches. The love potion cocktail went down a treat and every course was divine. Creating a playlist on Spotify was also a stroke of genius along with the candle included to add to the overall ambience. Well done Gimbal's, we look forward to eating in the restaurant again as soon as possible!

We had a takeaway last night and it was fantastic! All 3 courses were exceptional and the attention to detail was excellent. The addition of a hand made night light and very sweet rose and herb arrangement just made the whole evening extra special. Thank you.

Despite this dreadful pandemic and lockdown, I’ve just enjoyed the most wonderful food from one of our local restaurants, Gimbals in Sowerby Bridge. The food was outstanding and came with easy instructions on how to reheat at home. The extra touch of adding table flowers and a scented candle was a lovely gesture. I would highly recommend Gimbals to anyone wanting a fabulous meal. Just to add, I have never been disappointed with the quality of food or the service from this restaurant, and am so glad that they are in my home town of Sowerby Bridge.

What a fantastic meal! This was the finest dining experience we have had whilst in lockdown. Very efficient to order, collect and cook/ reheat. Also great value. The food was superb - Isle of Man Scallops, Slow cooked lamb, Turmeric infused Hake, Tasty side dishes and Sticky toffee pudding to finish. Could not fault any of it and can’t wait to entreat ourselves again.

Ordered as a surprise for my dad and step-mum to give them a lockdown date night. They adored every course and said the flavours were incredible. The person who dropped them off was super friendly and really lovely - and followed great social distancing measures. The bits that came with the meal to set the table with were a fantastic touch, and the Gimbals playlist was fabulous to go with it. A perfect date night and two tremendously pleased tummies! I can’t wait for our next Gimbals (and I will certainly be ordering more than the truffles for myself next time... which were beautiful!) Thank you so much!!

Just enjoyed a delicious takeaway meal from Gimbals. The food was really tasty. The filo parcel was gorgeous and the lamb perfect. Puddings too, stickly toffee pudding and truffles were just divine. I am about to order meals as a treat for my both my sons. Thank you Gimbals that was a real treat.

Really enjoyed our recent takeaway during COVID restrictions . Excellent lamb kleftico followed by delicious lemon posset and sticky toffee pud. Nice touch with the accompaniments and Gimbals Spotify playlist.

As this amazing restaurant is closed due to the coronavirus Janet and her staff have decided to offer their delicious food through take away. We have just eaten the most amazing three course dinner comprising of wonderful tastes and delights as if we had been in the restaurant and not at home. The meal came in easy to reheat containers with extremely simple instructions The additional little touches such as a hand tied herb bouquet and a home made scented candle to decorate the table along with a link for the Gimbals playlist simply added to the delight of this experience. Gimbals you should be very proud of yourselves and I can’t wait to repeat this evening. Thank you.

First week of Gimbals takeaway service whilst the restaurant remains closed due to the amazing social conscience of Janet and Simon which I wholeheartedly commend. This isn’t just any old takeaway it is beautifully packed in a white paper bag with their logo, it includes a scented tea light candle and small posy of fresh herbs and flowers. Full cooking instructions are included. The food was excellent as always from Gimbals. Well done Gimbals and welcome back!

Took my wife for her birthday on the 15th of March and what a beautiful time was had. We have been coming here for over 15yrs and it’s just bang on the money. Food is delicious and is cooked pretty quick. Fantastic options and I could have honestly ordered the entire menu. My wife & I have both made the decision to come more often this year because it’s just a little gem of a place. Well done on being open 25yrs and continuing in keeping the high standard in service and food. Brilliant job!

We had a beautiful meal here on Saturday evening. The service was friendly and attentive throughout and the food was absolutely stunning as usual. The three of us enjoyed the crab bisque and the crispy salmon cake for starters, pork belly and chicken for mains and chocolate mousse and rhubarb pavlova for dessert - all of which were delicious. Lovely cocktails and a bottle of rose wine completed our evening. We’d definitely recommend to all especially to make sure we’re supporting our favourite local restaurants when they need us.

Gimbals is a rare find in this world full of establishments selling mediocre food at inflated prices. The food was delicious served without a hitch. The staff were knowledgable and polite. The owners still passionate about what they do and they do it so well. Real food at realistic prices. Well done Gimbals.

unique setting,warm and cosy,friendly prompt servive,nothing was too much trouble.the food was delicious.the coctsils were too, we also had a jugof fresh water.we were there 3 hours for tster menue and cost was 30 pound. loved it and will return with other friends

I cannot remember how many years we have been eating at this amazing restaurant.Needless to say it is still our favourite place to eat.From the very comfortable and quirky decor (so cleverly done) to the warm and welcoming greeting, followed by extremely well cooked food which quite often has unusual elements such as lovage, or on this visit baked rhubarb.Janet and her amazing staff are attentive and friendly and you are never left waiting for anything.I would strongly recommend you try this hidden hem.

Love the style of the restaurant but to be honest I found the food a little underwhelming for the price. Couldn’t knock the service and worth a visit.They were running a festive menu which wasn’t getting offered out to push you toward paying a la carte. Shame really as it was our Christmas night out without the kids.

A wonderful eating experience from start to finish. The decor and vibe of the place is stylish and relaxed. Went as a party of 4 (and a half) , 2 vegans, 1 veggi and 1 meat eater and we were all catered for. We also had my 3 month old son, who I felt completely at ease feeding in the restaurant and the staff were lovely with. Absolutely amazing vegan food! There's an entire separate menu, giving you so much choice. Beautifully presented, tastes sensational. The staff are genuine, attentive and professional. Will definitely be back. I propose to my wife in this restaurant! Always used for family celebrations. Something a little bit special. The ambience is very quirky and the lighting very subdued. The food is perfect with a tasting menu offered every Thursday. Other nights there is a fixed price menu or à la cart.

We have lived in Calderdale for 20yrs and never made it to Gimbals until tonight. All I can say is, what the heck have we been doing!? The whole experience was top-notch from start to go finish. The food, the ambience, the staff, just excellent.

Thursday night - 5 course taster menu

Stumbled upon this as wanted to go to Engine next door but was fully booked.

The reviews (from Trip Advisor and “foodie” guide books) were very positive, and we were not disappointed. The restaurant were helpful when we had to change our plans, and found us a table on a busy night.

Lovely restaurant with great seasonal food and attentive service

Couldn’t fault anything. Food was amazing. Cooked to perfection. Rich, tasty and superbly presented. Staff were knowledgeable about the dishes and attentive. House wine was adequate. Price was reasonable for fine dining. Nice atmosphere. Cozy.

Fantastic meal as always, with the great selection of vegan choices a definite plus.

Great food, by far the classiest in sowrrby bridge

We had our wedding reception at Gimbals and would like to say a HUGE thank you to Janet and all the wonderful staff there. Janet was so lovely and enthusiastic and she made the arrangements and organisation really easy leading up to the day. We had a fantastic time, starting with welcome drinks and canapés in the upstairs lounge followed by the most amazing meal in the restaurant (the desserts were a particular favourite). The tables were dressed beautifully, the setting was perfect, the staff were attentive and welcoming and each and every one of our guests had a great time, raved about the food and said what a wonderful time they had.

Went to a party last weekend at gimbals, amazing the staff could not do though ,the food was wonderful .

Really lovely place. Staff are so lovely. Food is amazing. Cocktails or drinks upstairs in gorgeous room, dining downstairs in small but comfortable room. Not wheelchair friendly though. Quite expensive, £100 for 2 courses for 2 but worth it. Definitely recommend.

Ate here on a Saturday night with my wife. Great food and great service. You have to order the Fillet with Beef tea !

You could easily walk passed this restaurant as it looks like a terraced house,but once inside it becomes apparent that you've walked into a warm,friendly and comfortable place.

Fabulous evening had visited for a cousin party so brought 4 friends along to the taster evening the food was absolutely devine lovely ambience and brilliant staff highly recommend can't wait to return all 5 of us !!

As Gimbals is one of my favourite restaurants I booked for the four course Valentine's Day menu which, as expected, was excellent. Both the service & atmosphere made for a very special evening.

Went to Gimbals for a special meal as it is our favourite restaurant in the area. The staff are always really friendly and make you feel very welcome. The food, as always, was delicious, particularly the cheese soufflé.

The manager is fantastic! Friendly and chatty every time we’ve been. The food is always delicious and the cocktails are out of this world! This place is such a treat!

Starter was fantastic but main was a little disappointing as the beef Wellington was overdone but that haggis on the beef was amazing. We were a party of 14 but the service was great and the staff were very friendly. Cocktails were fab too. Will definitely return.

Yeah it seemed pretty good. I wasn't feeling too great before I went so wasn't really in the mood for food. I'll need to go again when I'm not ill

We have visited Gimbals quite a few times over the years and have always enjoyed the best food and service. Janet and Simon have created an absolute gem in Gimbals the a la carte and taster menus are full of just the finest food that is beautifully thought out, cooked and lovingly prepared with fresh produce. We had not been for 18 months due to illness and nothing had changed food with a modern twist and to die for. Congratulations to you and your staff you have created something wonderful.

Went here for our works christmas meal, crab bisque and the halibut steak were absolutely beautiful.

Everything is quality, from the eclectic decor to the cosy atmosphere, outstanding menu and friendly, efficient service. Party of 10 for a Christmas lunch, all went away very happy - each course was delicious and varied, simply perfect and amazing value too. Outstanding and highly recommended.

Favourite place to eat in sowerby bridge

So, we've been going to Gimbals for 20 years. I've never reviewed it because it feels like home. We have never, not even once, had a bad meal here. There has never been an occasion when I was not torn between choices on the menu. I love this place and I haven't reviewed it before because I don't really want it to be so popular that we can't get a table. Lovely staff, lovely hosts and beautiful food.

My favourite all time restaurant- I love this place - I love the quirky styling of the rooms - the food is consistently excellent+ locally sourced and the cocktails are a must. A rare and beautiful find

Very good meal - especially the squid starter and the lamb main course. Ate a la carte, rather than on the set menu, but still felt excellent value. Friendly welcome and professional, efficient service. Deserves to do very well.

We tried this restaurant for the first time along with some friends. We were seated really quickly and efficiently and the staff were very friendly. The menu was extensively tempting and we could not fault the food at all. However, my two friends had lamb and they felt that they needed more vegetables, their meals were a little small because of this. Other than that we had a lovely evening and will definitely go again.

Eaten here several times and my nephew had them to cater for his wedding a few years ago Can’t fault Great quality food

We love love this place !! . It is quirky with excellent food prepared by a chef who’s a perfectionist. My partner and I enjoy our monthly rendezvous here and shall continue to visit till we go to heaven ! We don’t mind spending money for fine dining and a romantic evening .. Thanks guys !
