Great place, delicious food but after 1hr and 45 mins and we'd only had our starters. Was a real shame as not everyone at the table ordered a starter so they were absolutely starving by the time the food arrived. Good is amazing though.

The squid kept on giggling and never disappoint. We don’t live near one but when on holiday and if there’s one, we will always eat there. Love the king prawn pad Thai. Just wish I have a bigger stomach so I can eat more dishes 😂

Gave me and my friend food poisoning, took a month to investigate it then said they did nothing wrong and refused to give us a full refund, offered us a voucher instead. We're obviously not going back to the place that gave us food poisoning then came up with a rubbish report saying it wasn't them.

My friend and I got food poisoning from them, we complained and asked for a refund but after a month long investigation, they denied they did anything wrong and offered us a voucher instead. Will not be returning. Bad food hygiene and awful customer service.

Food was very disappointing, didn't live up to the memnu description at all. My brother ordered the same meal as me and his arrived cold. They replaced and didnt charge, fair enough, but the quality of the food would prevent me returning again.

I had been looking forward to a delicious night out with a friend - but left the venue very disappointed. I'd booked online a week prior to our Saturday evening meal on 24/02/24, but even though I had proof of the booking, the restaurant could not find my reservation and so we were kept waiting for 20 minutes by the open door, along with around 10 other people. Eventually a table was 'found' for us - as if they were doing my friend and I a favour! - and we finally looked forward to our food. What a terrible disappointment 😞 The shared starter platter Fisherman's Feast (£23.95) tasted of little except the deep-frying oil, and I could not distinguish the crab from the squid - it could have been anything encased in the batter - the only real taste coming from the fiery dipping sauces. The main courses were OK, but only OK, mediocre at best, and at £19.95 & £22.50 each, very overpriced for what was on the plate. A small shared bowl of Tom Yum fried rice was a rather tasteless brown stodge that neither of us enjoyed, although we were charged £4.75 for the privilege of experiencing this 'delight'. With 2 beers and one lemonade, the whole bill amounted to £96.69 - with a 10% service charge already included. The whole experience was so disappointing. Having visited Thailand several times and eaten delicious Thai food each time, what we ate last night in The Giggling Squid was about as far from authentic fresh Thai food as a McDonald's burger is from a Wagyu Beef fillet. Apart from the food being an immense disappointment, the restaurant was very busy & noisy, with diners crammed in far too close together, giving the place all the ambience of a school canteen. One last observation - if you are going to charge Central London prices in a provincial East Anglican town, your food had better be authentic and excellent. Sadly The Giggling Squid offers neither of these essentials. I will never go there again.

The food here is exquisite - the best Thai I've had in ages. It was a late lunch and I think it would have been better with some music on - lakcing a little in atmosphere

A lovely first experience here. Decided to go at lunchtime. Got a perfect corner seat. The food was perfect. Light, colourful, full of flavour. The Salt & Pepper Squid and the Thai Green Curry was a delight. The young waiter noticed my watch (bonus points, didn’t catch his name). It became very busy but we were not rushed. But equally not delayed. Kind of perfect on the whole. Pics attached tell the story.

Three of us went for dinner last night and got food poisoning although we all had different dishes. Then found a review from last week regarding the exact same thing. This place is in desperate need of a hygiene review because there’s obviously a cross contamination issue. AVOID!!!

Boring Asian-style food. Too much rice not enough of the rest. Poor service and value for money. And why on earth don't they bring drinks as soon as ordered instead of half-way through the meal?

A lovely place for meal with friends or family!

Visited a handful of times and will be returning again soon. The food is delicious and the staff are exceptional. We had our server Jack recommend several dishes to us when we were unsure, and he had an extensive knowledge of the menu. We ordered a few recommendations and were very satisfied. The food never disappoints but the staff really go above and beyond.

The giggling squid is absolutely lovely. The service was amazing,we were served by Jack and he was very good at his job, talkative and charismatic. The food is delicious and they are on it with allergens. I can eat as a coeliac and not have to worry about being ill. Its one of my regular spots for a lunch and I would recommend to anyone!

Thai food is all about flavour and spice. This had neither.

The food is excellent, generous portions and good prices. The service was fast and friendly. I highly recommended it if you’re in the Bury St.Ed’s area.

Great location with parking nearby. The time allowed is limited to an hour and a half but that didn't seem to apply on the Thursday evening we were there. The food was very chilli and tempura batter flavoured. As a vegetarian the flavours were overpowering and the only vegetarian starter was covered with batter. The main course noodles were very good but the tofu side was dry, greasy and bland. The others in the group had no complaints and found their dishes with chillies, excellent. Good selection of wines by the glass and bottle. Great coffee and desserts. One of our group is lactose intolerant and full marks for putting a label on the LI dish. It gives you confidence that there won't be any mistakes. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly, nothing is too much trouble.

Had a coupe of meals there over the last few years. Absolutely great service with a smile. Food is amazing plus they have plenty they can make plant based/vegan.

Been here many times.my favourite one is the sof shell crab curry. Worth trying. Service is nice but when is busy it can be a quite slow. Would defo be back and would recommend. Priceways... Expensive in my opinion.

Went here when visiting Bury St Edmunds, we stood at the front door for quite a while before anyone noticed us at the desk however the service after this was quick, friendly and the food was tasty. Portion sizes are a little on the small side but tasty. The panaeng was tasty however the peppers were quite large, could do with being chopped down more. Coconut rice wasn't very coconutty and not really as expected. But overall very tasty and service was good. Salt and pepper squid is 10/10

This was a good meal and the service was top notch. It's good to see staff take an interest in your order and everything was was good. What was dissapointing was there was no sparking wine by the glass available and two dishes I love, ribbs and money bags, was not available. Other than that. All was good and would visit again. By the way, I think you should offer 2 for 1 cocktails!

Popped in, unbooked, for a spot of lunch. Shown to our table and given menus. Ordered 4 starters/tapas plates and a pad Thai between us. Food came out fairly quickly, all was lovely looking and well presented, the crispy squid was a little undercooked (the squid was cooked, but the panko wasn't as crispy as I'd expected it to be) so it wasn't super crispy, but it was still really good and that might just be a personal thing. Only gave 3 stars for the atmosphere as we sat in the very front of the restaurant (at our request!) And it was towards the end of lunch service e so the place wasn't very busy making it fairly quiet (this suits us down to the ground) however the people that were leaving all seemed to have had a jolly time. Would come back again, I appreciate it's a chain, but it's food isn't the mass produced stuff that you'd normally find in a chain restaurant (or if it is, you definitely wouldn't know!) Very fresh, fragrant and seasoned wonderfully. Really liked the plates too.

I dined at The Giggling Squid and had an incredible experience. I ordered the Pad Thai, and it was seasoned to perfection. The flavors were harmonious and truly delicious. I don't why they don't give rice with curry dish as its not a reasonable restaurant. Every other thai place gives rice along with curry. Food is great.

We came here on a Sunday during the market were I was planning on some good market street food. I was a bit skeptical about Thai food instead of the market food, but my wife insisted; I was not disappointed. The food was excellent. We would definitely come here again the next time we're in Bury. We ate the Thai Tapas selection as it was the best value for money and offered a nice selection of foods. The staff are welcoming, polite and attentive. The restaurant is bright and welcoming and is really large, it goes some way back in the building. Again it's a place we would definitely come back too.

Another fabulous meal. Staff are extremely welcoming and helpful with wheelchair users. This makes a big difference in a town like Bury St Edmunds where proprietors are not required to make Grade 2 listed buildings accessible.

Do not order the duck with peas. Those peas are mislabelled (berries) , absolutely disgusting, and couldn't eat it at all

Been wanting to eat in a Giggling Squid for ages so we made the most of the opportunity whilst on a weekend away in Bury St. Edmunds. As vegetarians it’s nice to know the veggie food hasn’t got fish sauce in which is often not...

The staff were excellent, really helpful with my mum who uses a wheelchair. The good was excellent and really good value for money. The restaurant was lovely and really welcoming. Will definitely return

We stopped at this restaurant for lunch when we were on holiday and after a long time I really did enjoy some Thai food. Relaxing atmosphere, love the decor (we sat at the back) and the staff were very polite. I had beef red curry with rice and that was delicious. Husband had one of the single platter and said it was nice. The service was a little bit slow on that day but I Would go back for more!

Had an amazing dinner out with family which which was made even more special by our server Emilie who gave us a free desert when she found out it was my birthday and made the day very special and amazing!!! Food was delicious and came out quickly with great quality would be dinning again !!

Very slow service, staff wondering round like Zombies and generally ignoring seated customers. Drinks order taken after 10 minutes sitting there. A further 20 minutes before food arrived after ordering, which is ironic as we'd ordered from the quick lunch menu! Requested a glass of tap water, but it never arrived. However, negatives aside the food was great, the ambience relaxing and the general decor and presentation good. After a word with the Duty Manager my feedback was taken onboard, with suitable recompense offered. Seems there are some back if house issues impacting service when busy. I hope that is sorted out, as I'd visit again.
