Giggling Squid Brentwood in Brentwood

It was just gorgeous. So pretty with trellis around the venue with trailing flowers, greenery and fairy lights. You could almost use it as a wedding reception venue without changing anything. The Giggling Squid had been recorded to me and the food was absolutely delicious..I'll definitely go again. The cocktail I had was also delicious, so delicious that I had 3 of them. Sorry I can't remember what it was called. The staff were both really lovely too. Read the restaurant's story on the menu. It's so li.

Had Thai tapas for lunch and it was good. Toilets are located upstairs. Parking was a challenge as I'm not local to the area. It was empty at lunchtime. Quite pricey for the amount and quality.

Hi all, nice place and really good food, but the acoustics in the restaurant aren't so good... so when other guests and tables are chatting it spreads around a bit too easily... but apart from that all good.

Loved this place the deco was so pretty and created a wonderful atmosphere. We really enjoyed all our food and had wonderful service. If we were more local would definitely come back here for some authentic Thai food. I would recommend the Thai green curry and satay chicken and spring rolls.

Extraordinarily average food. It's nothing crazy despite the presentation. All of our Currys tasted the same and were mediocre. It is literally just coconut powder which hasn't been ground properly which overwhelms anything else

Think food has gone a bit downhill since they dumped the tapas philosophy. Too much batter on starters. Lots of the dishes are overly sweet including the Pad Thai. Service was excellent though and decor still great.

Great tapas lunch menu! Good price. Everything was delicious, just a bit tricky to eat off their unique quartered plates! Also not a lot of beef in my beef massaman but it was all very tasty and filling!

One of the tastiest Massaman lamb curry I’ve ever tasted. Pork dumplings - well presented and the taste is divine.

This restaurant already has a great reputation for yummy food, and I totally agree. But what really stood out tonight was the prompt, friendly service from Emily and the team. As most who live in the UK "post" COVID know, good service is hard to come by. The team at the Giggling Squid really set a high bar and provided a wonderful service and experience.

Had lunch there on a Sunday. Food was great, but we were not offered the lunch menu until we asked, we were only being given the normal menu when we sat down. The price difference is quite significant between the two menus, so we are not sure if they did it in purpose.. Otherwise food taste great.

Newly redecorated - looks beautiful. All of the food was very tasty. The only downside was one of the dishes took a long time to come, but when it did it was amazing. I recommend the sharing platters for a starter as you get to try a lot of different dishes. Without a drink it's about £25-30 pp and with it's about £35-40 pp.

Enjoyed our lunch during NYE. Lovely decor which made for a beautiful ambience. Staff were good and took our orders well, even with a few changes. Food was amazing especially the crispy mushroom in the starters and drunken noodles in the main. Their Thai salad recommended by staff and sautéed greens were absolutely delicious too. Would highly recommend going here. Note: This branch doesn't have parking but you can park at the nearby Sainsbury's.

This is probably my 3rd or 4th visit. My wife dines here more often. Nice decor, atmosphere, easy access, clean, well spaced etc... But portion size, this time around, was nothing short of miserly. The menu said "A hearty bowl of crispy fried chicken. Bite-sized, sweet n' sticky deliciousness." "Hearty" it was definitely not, neither was it in any way crispy. It was sticky and sloppy. The volume of chicken could have sat in the palm of one hand. Small would be an understatement, and at £14.50 a dish... it was simply not worth the money. It tasted OK but was no way crispy and was just about starter size and nothing more. My wife's portion of rice was smaller than mine. We complained to the waiter twice, who completely failed to address our complaints first time around until we became a bit more insistent. The manager, a nice girl, eventually arrived and offered to reduce our bill. That was a nice gesture but we were not after a reduction or any special deals or discounts. We just wanted a satisfying evening meal without having to go home and make a sandwich after. In all, a spoiled evening.

Nicely prepared food and good service but slightly misleading menu for one of the dishes we ordered for our 11 year old. There were no "chili" icon on the dish chosen, yet it was incredibly spicy. Even adults who love very spicy food struggled to finish it.

Visited here before, but back then it wasn't overly impressive. This time round, we feel like it is certainly much better and the food is actually quite good. Not bad at all, and probably my go to place in Brentwood.

Order was mixed, not all ready, waiting time is extremely long. No one cleans the table , we were sitting with bottles and empty plates till almost the end, but you are charged a service charge, what for? No one looked after our table .

Went for our work Christmas lunch and everything from the service to the food was perfect! Party of 18 were very happy!

What a wonderful evening! We had been wanting to visit since we moved to the area and it went above and beyond our expectations. A really interesting menu, with plenty of flair in the dishes and the cocktail menu. A beautiful interior and delightful staff. Our new favourite local restaurant!

Giggling Squid is consistently the best Thai restaurant in Brentwood. The food is always good, and the service is friendly and attentive. Adrienn, our server, always makes us smile, and recognises us every time. I highly reccomend the Massaman curry with Lamshank, as well as the classic Pad Thai.

Very friendly welcome at the door even though we were 4 minutes late for our booking. Fast, Friendly, attentive service and knowledgeable staff made good recommendations. Sharing starter was lovely for 4 folk even though it was for 3. Nice crisp reisling wine and advice on prosecco. Take the dry one. Nice desserts. Not a massive selection but perfect and light to end a great meal. Thanks for a lovely evening.

We visited here one Friday lunch time, all three of us could not fault the food or service… The salt and pepper squid was just amazing and the spring rolls incredible, if I had to be slightly critical the portions could be slightly more, but that’s me being greedy .. The pad thai is one of the best I had tasted and with the Pak Choi & Tenderstems made a great meal. The stir fry was also very well received. All in all we had a fantastic lunch and can’t wait to go back ….

When we arrived the restaurant was not very busy with hardly any diners. They sat us right next to a young couple obviously on a date we must have been 12 inches apart from them and we could hear every word of their conversation. There were loads of empty tables. Why do that ?? We did ask to move to give these people and ourselves some privacy. The food was OK. Quite boring for Thai food. I had a ‘generous’ portion of mussels for a starter, about 8! Which were bland and chewy. No bowl for the shells and no finger bowl. My husband had a curry with rice which came in a pot and a rice bowl. No bowl for him to pour it into. Had to ask for that. He did say the curry was nice. I ordered the giant butterfly prawn pad Thai noodle. 3 prawns! And not giant. I also ordered the creamy coconut pina colada. Not creamy at all. Very watery consistency. Staff where nice. Would I eat here again. NO

A group of us came here Saturday, lovely food, great selection, very fresh, staff were really friendly. Very well presented dishes

Starters were ok but service and mains left a lot to be desired. The main dishes were really bland and we had to get an adults ice cream (4 scoops) as the kids menu had none for our daughter. When we raised how plain the starters were, the waitress recommended we order more starters next time. They charge £3.5 for a coke can. Felt pretty disappointed with the dine in experience and food quality and won’t be going back sadly. The last time we went a few years ago it was all a LOT better

Very slow service. We were pretty much forgotten about in the corner! Was almost like they were more interested in the rowdy parties near the front. Watch for the automatically added service charge too (which I paid and realised once I was home!). Had mentioned it was our birthdays but no complimentary birthday plates as I have had on previous visits for birthday meals. Contacted the manager but received a generic apology. A shame when I used to visit regularly!

Having reviewed this restaurant before I thought I would try them again for a birthday takeaway, after spending £200 on food I am very disappointed in both presentation and portion size and taste. No effort seems to have been made when packing the containers, items were squashed and leaking. I ordered a variety of things off the menu and only a few items were tasty.

Bought a takeaway from here on Friday evening and it was shocking. Chicken Satay was £7 for 3 small skewers of chicken. Pad Thai had no flavour. Won't be going back again. Really expensive for very little food and very poor quality.

Having eaten at a number of Thai restaurants we decided to try this one as a birthday treat, the starters were very average with Satay and prawn dishes, the mains was less than average at the price. My curry had little chicken a few vegetables and resembled a poor soup rather than a curry , the prawn Pad Thai had far too much onion in it . The crying beef and Cheek pork were fine but at £17 and £15 respectively on there own should have been Unfortunately they do not cater for children so if they are not into Thai then don’t take them. Limited deserts with the majority not available led two of us to hit the cocktails which were very good . The bill for 4 and one child came to nearly £200 which with the average food has led to the tittle of this review as I was not impressed.

Three of us tried this restaurant for the first time and won’t be coming back. The staff were pleasant and the decor was nice but the food was just okay. My local take away is much tastier.

Had a delicious meal tonight. Friendly staff and attentive. First time the gazebo out the back was used and it was a godsend in this heat. Would highly recommend and will Be back

Its OK, no more than average but a bit pricey for what it is, a Thai chain restaurant and there are better independent Thai restaurants out there.......

A consistently good Thai restaurant!

Overall was good but feel rushed straight away as been told to empty the table by certain time ( never had intention to stay overnight!). Cocktail, recommend by waitress and called silky pink was awful!

Ridiculously small portion! Really disappointing the cost is high for what you get in terms of quantity! Such a shame pic attached!

We love south east Asian food and don't have it enough so was really pleased with our visit. The food was delicious. Be aware if ordering the Som Tam Papaya Salad starter, it's rather hot - our mouths were on fire! Would definitely come back.

Lacklustre service. The prawn crackers never turned up, and coffee arrived without a saucer. Watched the waiter totter down the restaurant trying not to spill it.

After recently visiting the Norwich restaurant while on a short break, we looked for a Giggle Squid more local to home, had a birthday meal for my sister last night and it’s the most fantastic place with the most lovely staff, we was looked after by I do believe her name was Lily (blonde hair tied up) and she was brilliant, always making sure everyone was looked after, the food was absolutely fantastic and enjoyed by all, the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, plus my sister got a complimentary birthday dessert, can’t thank you all enough for a lovely evening

I ordered Mah Kwan Pepper Pork Belly, Sleeping Honey Duck and Lamb Massaman Curry with my friend. The curry tastes sweet and was well made.

Tasty food and good staff. Prices maybe a little higher than would expect, but was definitely satisfied. I had the aubergine, was spicier than expected, but definitely worth the sweats.

Lovely food and service spoilt by constant flow of delivery drivers picking up take away deliveries. Door opening constantly on chilly evening. Staff constantly bundling take away boxes into carrier bags and putting in warming cabinet. All business have to make money where they can...

Went to Brentwood for a birthday evening meal having been before during early lockdown Ordered the sticky crispy chicken and it was neither crispy or sticky. I had this previously which led me to find a recipe and I can cook this at home. They had another go at serving this dish and again it was pathetic like kids chicken Goujons but soggy and still not sticky. Very disappointed and although they knocked this off the meal for two it ruined the evening, Cost me £40 and I still had to go eat somewhere Was a poor choice of meal or a poor chef? As I have had it better there and in Thailand AND I can cook it right I think it’s a poor chef

Tge food is always amazing. The service is usually excellent. Ladt time I do think the servers were training as a few key things missed like no plate given with massaging so used rice bowl. Had to ask for water 3 times. But they were lovely and polite

Lovely evening meal. All the food was as hoped for and very enjoyable. Staff were all very pleasant and knowledgeable. It’s so nice to be out and enjoying restaurants again.

Top quality food. I ordered a takeaway using their website with little notice and it was more or less on time. While a bit pricey for a takeaway, it was at least delicious. Would try it again.

We've been here quite a few times and it's always been ok. Arrived last night and no one greeted us as we arrived. Staff milling around but we were ignored standing in the doorway. The waitress was attentive to start with but didn't notice that...

This was my first time eating at a Giggling Squid. Had a great evening, staff were very friendly, helpful and understanding with them changing our reservation time due to one of our party running late! The Squid starter was to die for! Our main courses were also good, along with the dessert. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and me and my girlfriends had a brilliant evening. Would definitely eat here again. The only negative is at the end of the evening the lady taking our payment, was a little rude, however this doesn't reflect on the rest of the staff who were brilliant. Thanks

The restaurant itself is stunning with some really quirky touches, the staff are always very friendly and accommodating.. the food is outrageously good.. the red star duck curry is unbelievable

The waitresses was great, very polite. the Manager and I think he was the chef, looks like he needs a good wash, and to learn some people skills.we had to send the Lamb shank back as it was so tuff, we told them we want a new one but we think he just put it in the microwave ,we also sent the steak back because it was so tuff and we even left it in the end, the two who eat the Lamb Shank have been really ill since then (two day's later) . the two who didn't eat the Lamd have been fine. Wouldn't go back there why that manager is there.

Four of us went there Sunday afternoon two of us have been poorly the last couple of days. The lamb shank was very hard and dry and so was steak. Sent it back but it came back worse. Blaming on this only the other two never had it. My daughter went there yesterday, not knowing that I was unwell. She also had stomach trouble. Restaurant looks really lovely from the out side
