Absolutely lovely traditional fish & chip shop " service incredible " chef was taking fish & chip & pie order etc As soon we're in the door " fish & chip shop was absolutely amazing Spotless clean " great atmosphere & aroma of fresh fish & chip been cooked fresh "" brought me back to my childhood days " if you are anywhere near lowestoft " give gibby chippy a vist " well worth it " highly recommended " by some local people " so glad l took there advice. This is a must for fish and chips in Lowestoft. In business since 1949 and the BEST haddock and chips ever. Everything is super clean. The lady who served us is very pleasant and spotlessly attired. You won't be disappointed 🤗

Well, we were displaying for armed forces day, were told how fab this place was and paid a visit. So glad I did!! We had whale and chips for 5 people..delicious!!! If fish and chips is the so-called national dish, it is a shame that the quality on offer in many places is not better than this. It is the 'classic' British warm soggy chips and thickly battered fish. Heavy and greasy. There was a fish and chip restaurant nearby on London Road that was good but the management changed and the quality disappeared at the same time. The Thatched Cottage on Kirkley Cliff does a good fish and chips, by which we mean fresh chips and crispy batter. Perhaps a review of all fish and chip shops in Lowestoft is due. Given the history of the town one might have expected better but then, maybe not.

Really good fish and chips. At the higher end of price locally, but the selection is great. Takes card payments. There is parking opposite for 2 cars and street parking close by.

Colin the owner is a really nice and friendly person. He is great at what he does and how he treats you. Shame the woman who served me on 8/4 wasn't!! She is rude and yet again tight with her portions of chips. I'll avoid when she's on!!!

DELICIOUS FISH N CHIPS!!! Fresh fish in a yummy batter. We had plaice and haddock. Chips are nice too but room for improvement. Curry sauce could be better also. I had pineapple fritter here which ive never had before and it was surprisingly nice! Overall a very nice fish n chippy which you won't regret when eating on the beach. Also excellent price!!

My family and I come to this Chippy regularly and it's well worth the 17 mile drive from our house to get here! We have several chippys much closer to home but none of them can stand up to this one. The fish is always beautiful, fresh, and very large. The chip portions are also very large - so much so that my partner and I usually share a portion between us otherwise we would never be able to finish it! They're also extremely good value for money, especially taking into account portion sizes, and the staff are very friendly and efficient. I've been coming here for years and I have no plans to change my chippy! A real 'hidden in plain sight' treasure!

We moved up here in January 2019 and after trying other fish and chip shops we were recommended Gibbs and have been going ever since. We were really sad when due to the lockdown they had to temporarily close. But on the 19th of May Colin re-opened again and up to the time of me writing we have been there many times since, sometimes twice in a week. If you like Skate and Cod then this is the place to go as it is really good value as is all of the fish. We always ask for thin batter and crispy chips and Colin does them perfectly. All of the staff are friendly and always cleaning the front counter area. I hope we can go there for many more years!

Gibbs along Carlton Road is my main stay Fish n Chip shop in Lowestoft. Have been going to Gibbs for over 30 years and seen the family generation of fryers continuing their family tradition. Personally the best Skate n Chips I know... Even my little girl, Amelia loves Gibbs and now enjoys a whole Skate herself....

As a take away traditional fish and chip shop Gibbs is a bit of an institution. It has been passed on through generations. There is no doubt that its continued success is due to the quality of its food. In a world where fried chicken and kebabs and pissa seem to be taking over Gibbs holds it head up high and continues to provide first class food.

Our hosts at The Corner House suggested Gibbs to us. We were looking for a no friils "chippy" to takeaway & eat at the sea front. What a find & joy to find a proper traditional fish & chip shop, cooked to order & served by friendly owners & staff. We hail from Norwich & if you are visiting like we were, we can highly recommend.

We pop to Lowestoft several times a year and always visit Gibbs. Yesterday we completed a 260 mile round trip on our motorbike just for a cod & chips lunch.... well worth every bum numbing mile 😁. Fabulous chippy!!

Our ex neighbors came up for a couple of days. To save us cooking they suggested we have fish and chips at home. This is the 3rd time in a few weeks I have been here after a recommendation. We had Skate x 3 and 1 Haddock. I asked for thin batter and crispy chips. Everything was cooked to perfection as it was before. It will be my preferred chippy for the evening.

We recently moved to Oulton and were surprised that we couldn’t find a decent chippy until we were recommended Gibbs Chippy. The fish is nice and thick, big flakes, (ask for chunky fish) chips were good too. Been a few times now and always good food. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Had a takeaway fish and chips in all the other fish and chip shops in Lowestoft ,thought would try this one , after noticing many poor ratings , but they are all right in there reviews un edible and chips served as they have been re cooked , the fish was greasy and tasteless , would not even recommend to my nightmare neighbours from hell

Best to go before the rush early evening as not so good when the shop is really busy. Staff really nice and the owner is a good cook but does get a bit rushed and it reflects in the quality of the cooked product.

Not sure what they cook it in but the battered Cod is the best I have ever had and it’s always cooked fresh. Sometimes very busy but well worth the wait.

These were the worst chips I’ve ever tried to eat. I’m a vegetarian and the chips tasted like they were fried with beef burgers or something, very disgusting. Won’t be trying here again.

The best fish and chips I have had from anywhere in years. Freshly made to order so a little waiting required but well worth the wait. Good value, large portions. Both fish and chips were very, very tasty. Crispy, flavoursome batter. Firm brown chips and fully cooked on the inside. Not the greasy, limp rubbish other places try to get away with calling chips. Highly recommended. I live 100 miles away and was just passing by. Disappointed that now I’ve been spoiled by quality, it’s going to be a very long time before I get anything as good as this again.

Colin is a lovely friendly guy, who along with his staff always offer a warm welcome. The range of food is good, reasonably priced and delicious.

Small but friendly gets busy but the foods worth the wait and good value

Went here saturday night and the staff were superb. The guy cooking the fish really friendly and he knows how to cook fish. The lady serving knew all about the history of the place and told us about it. She asked where we were going to eat our fish and chips and we said on the beach, so she wrapped our fish and chips up in a way that we could eat them out of the bag, superb service.

A Very friendly local Chippy with good Fresh fish and well fried chips and crispy batter the n the fish . And although I may have had tastier batter I can certainly say that they Truly are the Best Chips in North Suffolk/ South Norfolk ,.. and when you take in places such as Aldeburgh ,Southwold ,Wells next-the-Sea & Cromer Etc into account, this really is quite some compliment! Always served with a smile, I go out of my way to get my F&C's There.
