Gianni's in Scarborough

Lack of attention to detail, bread for dipping - nothing given to facilitate dipping. Prawn Cocktail starters - disappointingly tasteless prawns that appeared to be freshly defrosted. Lobster ravioli main didn’t have the texture or taste of lobster and the scallops didn’t taste fresh and unusually small and without coral. Monkfish & mussel linguine main was swimming in a watery sauce. Overall impression is that it’s trading on laurels from 30yrs ago and gotten lazy with quality. Driven past hundreds of times, certainly won’t we stopping in future!

This is my first time here, as it was recommended by my in-laws. We got there very early, so were lucky to get a table, but it soon filled up pretty soon after arriving. I have just found out that I am gluten intolerant, and have heard some horror stories about gluten free bread and pasta, so I was obviously quite nervous. I had the goat cheese and pine nuts in a tomato and white wine sauce. It was delicious! My in-laws had the same only with gluten and my partner had a massive calzone! All of which were homemade and amazing. We had pavlovas for dessert and a few cocktails. All in all, it was a wonderful and relaxed evening, with superb food and wonderful staff. Thank you all for a lovely evening.

Just love this place from the warm welcome you receive, fabulous and funny Italian waiter very charming, then the food! THE best pizza bread in history with Gorgonzola mushrooms, heaven, followed by calzone and bolognaise just stunning, great wines, can’t wait to go back, thankyou 🙏

We enjoyed perfectly cooked sea bass in a really warm welcome. The service was quick and unfussy and the fish obviously freshly cooked and served with a delicious sauce. Alessandro, the maitre d, was an excellent host advising on cooking times and through his personality creating an enjoyable evening out.

Have been before some time ago. Very busy even at 5.15pm. We had booked weeks before and it was a good job we did as they were turning people away that had not booked. The food was very good. Some dishes I have not seen before. Service could have been a bit better as there as a long wait for the dessert .It is a gem in Scarborough and would be back like a shot next time in Scarborough.

Absolutely beautiful restaurant serving first class food. Service was professional and friendly staff are a credit to the owner. I had Mussels to start which were probably the best I've ever had, portion size was huge so make sure you are hungry. Pepperoni linguine was superb and so tasty, again generous portions. Prices are on par with other restaurants and worth every penny. Wine was excellent as well. Will definitely be returning soon.

I have lived near Scarborough for over 6 years and never been here before. Been aware of it, but never been. My wife has been a few times and told me how good it is. So we ventured to Giannis. It’s a wonderful place. Lovely, authentic Italian atmosphere - the music was great, pictures on the wall - great atmosphere. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We had the trio bruschetta for starter - delicious. The Calzone pizza and Diavola were absolutely delicious. Enormous and totally full of flavour. We passed on the dessert because we couldn’t eat anymore! The coffees (lattes) were hot (you don’t get hot lattes at the service stations!!) and you could taste the coffee. Fantastico! A great experience - going again for sure. I imagine most living in the area have already been but if you’re visiting Scarborough, and you enjoy Italian food, you have to visit Giannis. You will not regret it.

Authentic Italian dishes at competitive prices . Lasagne good size portion in oven dish very tasty . Calzone - very large , pizzas and garlic breads freshly made , hand cut chips there was not a frozen item sneaked in anywhere all fresh home cooked . Will return

Visited here following a recommendation for New year's Eve, it did not disappoint. Service was first class and food was amazing. Friendly staff and would definitely return. A little more expensive than other Italian restaurants but well worth it.

This place is 5 stars easily. I love the staff; they are so friendly, fun and nice. They played happy birthday over the loudspeakers for my family-members birthday next week! (The pavlova is out of this world). All the staff are brill, but Anna especially is amazing! Could not ask for a better experience! This, out of all the places I have been to, is by far the best. Amazing Italian! Was like being in Italy! Family run Italian that’s been in Scarborough for years and imports traditional Italian ingredients which you can tell from the quality of food! I would suggest booking especially when Tuscany too is closed as was very busy! We attended this time for a birthday meal & weren’t disappointed! We had starters & main this time and glad we did! I had the calamari which was cooked beautifully. The special pate was lovely too! For main, I had the prawn spicy pasta (not sure of the Italian name) - was delicious! They also cater for gluten free by charging 99p extra for any pasta. One of the Italian speaking waiters made the visit, talking in Italian & translating phrases for us too! :) Second visit & will definitely attend again! Have already recommended to family & they had a lovely visit!
