Cold attitude towards guests, poor service, the coffee is not tasty, after serving the drinks, you don’t want to eat anymore.

A bit tired but staff very friendly

Visited on Saturday night after a positive referral from a friend. Busy and noisy with groups of families with young children. Reasonable menu with specials. My wife ordered steak pie but when it arrived it was lamb after she tasted it. Told the young waiter who asked " do you want it changed ? " well yes it was not what we ordered. A new meal arrived just as I was finishing. On top of that my 1st pint was flat as 2nd wasnt ! Disappointed

I can't comment on the food but we stopped in on Christmas eve after going to the carols. The staff were very friendly and we will be returning to try the food

Had a family gathering for daughter's birthday (November), food was plentiful and delicious Went again (Jan 2024) for wife's birthday, party of 10, food as good and plentiful as before, staff very pleasant and accommodating. Will be back 🙂

The best meal out I've had for a very long time... absolutely delicious. Good, friendly service, although we had to re-order 2 drinks which didn't arrive, and on checking the bill, we found we been charged for the ones we didn't receive. However, they immediately put this right. There are no soft furnishing or curtains, which made it a little noisy, but overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended, and I will return very soon.

Had Sunday dinner there on 5th November 2023. Everything came out hot, and there was a lot of it. It was very tasty, but I found the beef to be a little chewy, not all of i, just some of it. The roast potatoes could have been crispier, and the gravy (although had a lot of flavour) could have done with being a little thicker... overall, it's not bad, and I will go back to see if there are any improvements.

A lovely local pub with good food and service. Fits a wide range of needs. Bar,lounge area and restaurant and outdoor area. General bar food but also has specials.

Perfect for a night out with friends and family, though, if you're hoping to go somewhere quiet by yourself or with a partner - this may not be the place, as it is very child friendly with a play park and outdoor area. Absolutely perfect for families though. The food was amazing, and service was great too. With young staff that are happy to respond to requests in a timely manner.

OUNDLE PUB CRAWL (18-08-23) Pub #3 Had a near 20 min walk to get to the pub on a hot day, looking forward to a cold pint and after ordering and getting it, taking it to our table it was flat and warm!!! Not good at all, asked the bar lady for wi-fi code and just told its BT nothing more? No PUB name wi-fi only pay as you use avaliable? Not very welcoming at all but regulars were and hotel guests, so we left half of our pints and walked back into town. Our photo with the Pints was taken before we had had a drink:/ A bad visit!!!

The George is my local pub. The food is ok, when you can actually get the food. Drinks are extremely expensive for what you get. We've been let down one too many times by the lack of food/delays in service. The nail in the coffin was a visit on Thursday, where my mother in law ordered some food. Whilst ordering she said we had a table of 6 to order and was reassured that it wouldn't be an issue. She paid for her food and I went to order food about 5 minutes later for the rest of the family. I was then told no food orders until 6.30 (45 minutes away). They took my name and table number down. At 6.30 I went back to order food and I was told there was a long wait, and they prioritised bookings. My kids couldn't wait any longer to eat so we had no option. UT to leave. I had booked in at the bar for 6.30 so this is a poor excuse for the service. Fortunately there are loads of great restaurants in Oundle, we went elsewhere and had a great meal. I won't be going back to the George!

Lovely pub with good food and a brilliant outdoor area. I can recommend the super salad and the chicken burger. I will definitely be going back when I’m in the area again.

Just stopped for a quick cup of coffee on my cycling trip to Amsterdam and the service and people there were amazing, extremely friendly and supportive and the coffee was pretty banging too.

Father's day lunch for 9. Everything was perfect.

I worked near here a year ago but wasn't in a position to pop in I'm glad I made the effort and wasn't disappointed lovely starter of pork belly croquettes with a chilli sauce Rutland trout with a beetroot and new potatoes served with a delicious yoguart garlic sauce sublime, Beer battered Cod with to die for chips washed down with a cold beer Great service with food this good I'm surprised it wasn't fully booked it's a 10 from len

A lovely old pub with a great out door area for eating and a play area for the children I have eaten in The George Inn in a few occasions and always found the food very good.They recently did a buffet for my husbands funeral and they food was wonderful...I can't thank them effort.

Popped in for some lunch when passing through and had a gorgeous meal, staff really friendly and welcomed our dog she even got some treats, would highly recommend and will be back

Really good food, friendly staff and consistent! We have visited The George Inn both mid week and for Sunday lunch, and have enjoyed all of the meals eaten there. Sunday lunch really was very good, definitely the nicest in the local area!!

Enjoyed a lovely 3 course festive lunch yesterday with a small group of friends. First visit to the George, one of the group lives close by and highly recommended. Service was warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived and wasnt overly busy a few people in the bar area and a large family gathering in the restaurant so you could hear your conversation. Food was prompt and plentiful. We were well looked after by the staff. Will definitely be returning for another visit. Thank you for an enjoyable visit.

although it was really busy with the football on the telly in the bar and a party of over 25 people in the resteraunt we did not have to wait very long for our meals.we both had the slow cooked blade of beef this was really tender with mash and a nice selection of nicely cooked veg.will definately be returning soon .keep up the good work.

Quick and very nice food at a reasonable price

Visited here with my wife and a couple friends (plus a dog, they are dog friendly) for a Sunday roast in late September and we all agreed it was one of the best roast dinners we'd ever had. Though a big praise goes to the exceptional service we received. To say they went above and beyond would be an understatement. My wife and one of our friends are dairy intolerant and although this was mentioned in the table pre-booking, my wife was just expecting what most other restaurants do and say that ABC contains dairy and they'd omit it. Or if you're lucky, they might replace or give extra XYZ that doesn't contain dairy. This is not good enough for The George Inn though. As soon as we'd arrived and asking if we were getting the Sunday Roast, our server immediately went to the kitchen. I just assumed he was informing the chef to be careful with ingredients but he returned to say the chef was making dairy free Yorkshire Puddings. This was certainly a small treat for my wife as she usually has to avoid the Yorkshire Puddings. The food came out, dairy free Yorkshire Puddings for my wife and our friend with dairy free gravy (another treat!). Usual vegetables that come with the roast but then out comes two separate bowls of cauliflower cheese - one with dairy and one without. Again an absolute treat and definitely not something my wife and friend were expecting. A superb meal and we were really appreciative of the efforts of the chef and server.

Went there with a large group and was delighted with the quality of the food and service. Will definitely go there again.

There were 4 of us having a social get together and had not visited this restaurant for a number of years. The level of quality food was excellent from the seared fillet steak, the huge homemade steak and ale pie. the vegetable lasagne and the tiger prawn red Thai curry.and we all sent back empty plates. All accompanied by delicious desserts.

We had a delicious Sunday roast here. My friend and I have a dairy intolerance; the chef made us fresh dairy-free Yorkshire puddings and cauliflower cheese. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and I sensed how much pride they took in catering for us. It was very much appreciated. Dogs welcomed too!

Had a fantastic meal Saturday night. I'm gluten intolerant and there was a good choice of food. I had the steak and they told me that the onion rings were gluten free!!! Couldn't believe it. Not many places do that. Excellent value for money, lovely food, great service. Dog was allowed in bar area. If I'm in the area I will definitely return. Highly recommend.

I have often passed this pub situated on the outskirts of Oundle but managed a visit for lunch earlier today. We choose to sit in their large rear garden and ate at one of their many tables. I ordered the Steak and ale pie with mash and vegetables and even though my pie was about an inch thick, it was thoroughly enjoyable. My wife enjoyed hers too and our meals were part of the 2 for £15 deal which nobody can complain at. Food and service was excellent and no complaints at all. I had 2 Guinnesses whilst my wife had a pint of coke which, with lunch, totalled a very reasonable £26. We would happily return. Visited 19th August 2022.

We had a great salad here and the landlord was very accommodating, even though we were a little late arriving. Would recommend this place if you’re nearby.

What a great place. The lovely people at the George managed to fire up their Pizza oven and feed almost fifty hungry pilots and volunteers from our national Hang Gliding Competition with less than an afternoon's notice. We all had a fantastic evening and enjoyed great food, great beer and a really great atmosphere on the outside covered terrace . We promise to give you more warning next time! :-)

We had a large family gathering of 30 for an early evening meal. We per ordered and the service was fantastic. We arrive 25 mins before the specified eating time which allowed ordering drinks and getting seated and Jo and the team looked after us very well, the food was great efficiently and quickly served and they sorted out several people paying very easily. I would not hesitate having such a gathering there again.

Spent an evening there with friends outdoors at their pitsa eatery. Lots of room and great, friendly atmosphere. Good selection of drink.

Another fabulous meal at this pleasant pub . The chef cooks wonderful food here , very well presented and the quality is superb . The service is excellent too . The menu is well thought out and everything is tempting on the menu . This is the third time we have visited .

So I booked for a 13.15 sunday lunch with my teenage son; the weather was foul and had had enough of walking so we turned up 30 minutes early. The staff couldn't have been nicer and found us a table immediately. The service was quick and attentive - we both ordered the Sunday roast pork with all the trimmings and were not disappointed. The portions were generous and the bill was modest, and you can't ask for more than that, really. This isn't a 'smart' venue - this is a comfortable local pub with a mix of locals and parents taking their kids out of school for lunch, and I'd certainly go back.

Was a busy Saturday night, but they fit us in as walk ins. The atmosphere was good and the good was delicious. I was a little on the fussy side about my steak (pregnant craving) and they got it bang on. This was my second time here and I would highly recommend.

First time visit for me and the wife . We had the Sunday roast of beef and turkey , which were both very nice . Came with roast potatoes , pig in blanket , pork stuffing and Yorkshire pudding , with vegetables and cauliflower cheese . Very fair price and great portions too !! Service was friendly and swift . Proper nice old pub , would definitely recommend and visit again :)

This is a fun pub in Oundle and just a bit away from the main center of town. The service was very friendly and they served one of our favorite steak and ale pies from the last month living around the area. Beer selection was nice and the atmosphere was up to date and comfortable. We hope to go back soon.

In the area for a couple of days and booked a meal at this venue. Made the booking via Facebook and it was responded to straight away and very efficient. When we arrived the lady serving at the bar knew exactly who we were before...

Good size portions. Really nice fresh food. Found it slightly bland but sorted it with some salt. Wouldnt deduct rating as its just personal taste. Great service too.

Friendly and warm welcome upon our welcome. Upon arrival i noted the pub was mainly full of teenagers and dogs and not quite the country pub we anticipated. We booked dinner after reading reviews and online the pub looks very pleasant. Sadly it's Somewhat less desirable in the flesh. I felt over dressed despite being in casual attire. And some one remarked " he looks posh" as we found a table. The pub is well situated but is rather tired and grubby. The young waiting staff were dressed in dirty trainers and cargo trousers looking somewhat dishevelled. Our drinks were given to us on a dirty bar tray, which was then left with us whilst we looked through our sticky plastic menu folders. The view of the outside seating area leaves very little to be desired and the marquee appears to be outlined by yellow and black tape as though marking a hazard or incident. Whilst grateful for the booking and warm welcome we chose to leave after our drink and found a last minute reservation at the chequered kipper which is a few Miles away.

Waited 15 Mins before we were seated (Booked the day before) Ordered three Sunday roasts, waited 45 Mins only for the food to be overcooked & Cold, Sent it back, waited another 15 mins only to have the same food brought back out that had been Microwaved. Covid is being used as a poor excuse for very poor food & Bad service.
