Gelsmoor in North West Leicestershire

Stunning dishes, it was such a treat to return to the Gelsmoor ! The staff was brilliant and the atmosphere was lovely and not too busy for a Friday night. Our table was ready earlier than expected which was great as we got there half an hour early. We had a very pleasant night. I had the seafood linguine which was really tasty, and I had the best banoffee pie I’ve had in years. Thank you to the chef !

Had a meal two weeks previous, couldn't fault it ,when we returned because the first meal was so good we ordered the same.The chips we're burnt on ends,the fish was placed on top of a pile of chips ,awful presentation,and the fish batter was hard and fat running out the bottom. Could've got the same at local chip shop for a third of price. Won't be going back.

The best staff! Friendly and hospitable, welcoming as soon as we stepped through the door which is a change to most places. Food was lovely, male staff gorgeous, wish I lived closer.

Wonderful place to eat if you have dairy and wheat allergies as I do (diagnosed 20 years ago when I was extremely ill not a lifestyle choice)!! They offer regular starters and meals, with allergy substitutes, eg prawn cocktail, battered cod (to die for) & chips, Christmas turkey dinner with all the trimming’s with the Chef talking me thru to make sure I was happy with both the starter and the main course. The staff are extremely polite and attentive. The surroundings are very festive too. Now one of our go to dinner places. Highly recommend.

We have passed this restaurant a few times and it always looks inviting. When we arrived there was some kind a table cock up and our booking couldn't be found, after a few seconds of debate between the senior staff we were seated directly next to the main entrance door. It was a cold wet day and we found this location to be drafty, a couple of a certain age we both left our coats on. The dining area seemed large enough but the tables were crammed in tight it was almost elbow to elbow. We ordered our starters, small portions and overpriced in our opinion. For mains we both had fish and this was the star of the show. We eat out a lot and dont feel that this establishment met our expectations for a £60 lunch.

Friendly , lovely setting , very good staff, nothing is too much for them. Beautiful steak on a stone , fish the size of a whale, Visit quite often . Worth a try , you won’t be disappointed.

although the Gelsmoor is a lovely place to go and the staff are excellent ,we were a bit disappointed with the evening meal. We had the fish and chips, but to be honest didn’t find a great deal of fish in there it was mainly batter

This was our first visit here after being recommended it by a friend. Wow just wow it did not disappoint service top notch and food was out of this world , Lovely atmosphere. What more can I say. Our waitress was a wonderful lady called Anna who was attentive , cheerful and extremely lovely and helpful x We will be back

We go here about once every 10 days Consistently good and staff friendly and hospitable. Food always of good quality and great choice range from pizza through to fillet. The steak on a hot plate are great Wines are nice and beer choice good.

We have been before and will definitely go again. Nice friendly staff, nicely decorated restaurant and a great outdoor space if you smoke or just want a drink outside. Starters were fresh (prawn cocktail for me) and delicious and I can’t recommend the steak on the hot stone for enough. Can’t wait to go back!

We visited 12/07 for our anniversary which was mid week but still fairly busy. We went to the bar to order some drinks to take outside and a very nice young lady said she would bring them out to us and would we like to browse the menu while outside, when it was time to go in we were shown to a table and ask if it was ok and yes it was fine we had a starter, main,dessert and coffee which were all well presented and very tasty. It was our first visit and we will definitely be back.

I was treated to lunch for my birthday, with a dear friend. The Gelsmoor is very welcoming , all staff ver friendly. Restaurant very clean . Outside seating area , family friendly. Food excellent, Had a small fish and chips, it was a perfect size and very well presented ,it tasted beautiful. Fabulous meal for Father's day today. We had a toddler and baby with us. Great food... me n hubby had the steak stones. Our toddler had the pizza from the kids menu and nearly finished the whole thing! Lovely desserts too. Service was friendly and prompt and they accomodated us needing two high chairs. We've only discovered this restaurant recently as my husband was looking for somewhere that did the steak stones. It's a 15 min drive for us, so we'll defo be back.

We visited on the last day of the EOtHO scheme (31st August) we ordered a prawn cocktail, chicken caesar salad to start and we both had the fish and chips for our mains. We haven't been to the Gelsmore since last November and on that visit we also had the fish and chips. On that occasion they arrived wrapped in a linen napkin. Which made the batter on the fish a very soggy mess. As the steam had nowhere to go and made the experience disappointing.Well, on this occasion there was no napkin involved. The batter on the fish was soo crisp, light and delicious. A good decision to get rid of the napkin. The overall presentation of all the dishes was good too. Even in the table next to us had the steak on a stone, even that all looked great presented nicely on a board. Staff are always friendly and helpful and the service is always brilliant. It's currently strange times for everyone, but support the Hospitality industry. We are all in this together. We shall definitely be back, soon. Thank you Gelsmore x

This was the first time eating out with family and this place was great.It has a good clear system, plenty of hand sanitising stations and spaces out seating.They have options for my lactose intolant mum and gluten-free grandad whoch made the experience much easier and happier.I had an Angus burger and it tasted incredible. Full of flavour without being over the top and "exotic". Would be great for a picky eaterHad a Belgium Waffle for pudding and it was a wonderful sized serving. The ice cream was so smooth and tasty, and it had additional tiny biscuit balls which added to the texture.The whole experience was wonderful and definitely recommend

First things first i have never been so impressed with the safety precautions put in place here. We felt safe from the moment we stepped into the place. We signed in & were taken to a table. You view the menus off your phone.. Another way of keeping safe. Jack, who was delightful, polite, & helpful came across to explain the set up & take our drink order. 5 minutes later we has ordered our meals. My daughter chose the homemade steak pie & I ordered the chicken ceaser salad. Both meals were lovely. 2 pinta of coke, 1 pint of line & soda, 2 meals all for £13.50 in the eat out to help out scheme. The decor was lovely. The food gorgeous but we were so impressed with Jack. He is a credit to them. We will definitely be back to enjoy this lovely find again

Tonight was our first experience of dining out since lockdown.We had a great experience at the restaurant with friends who we haven’t seen for several months.Prior to going to the Gelsmore we went on the website to look at the menu and decide so we didn’t need a menu on arrival to prevent the possibility of getting the virus from handling the pub menu.No need, they had it sorted, on the entrance you take a photo of a poster using our phone and you get a menu downloaded on your phone. The next stage you enter your name and post code and that’s it.The professionalism within the restaurant is unbelievable from the staff under the current restrictions.The staff all have protective face masks and plastic visors on at all times.Like I said, it’s the first time out for us and we felt very protected and safe at this restaurant.Well done and thank you to the staff and the owners for investment in our safety.Phil

What a really beautiful restaurant/pub.Was on a bike ride with my brother and called in for a light meal, we had a warm friendly welcome from the owner and his team.Inside its really beautiful with high quality, very clean and smart.Service was great, food and drink awesome especially the chips best I've had in years.Even though it's 30 miles from where I live I will definitely be back as it's that good.Thank you to the owner and your team for a great place

Had such a fab evening last Saturday. Restaurant seemed busy and had a nice atmosphere. Menus have been removed in place of a digital menu. We enjoyed some bread and olives then each went for either a pizza or the fish and chips which by the way is humungous. Bill was reasonable enough and we can’t thank staff enough for such a fab time and we will be back!!

We went to the Gelmoor in January 2020 to celebrate my sisters 40th birthday. It was an amazing evening - the staff were very pleasant and excellent at their job, the atmosphere in the restaurant was fab and the range and quality of the food was outstanding.

Our first visit on recommendations from friends. From the minute we walked in the door the staff were friendly and efficient and genuinely welcoming. We really enjoyed the food and service and will be visiting again on a regular basis.

Have been twice to this pub/restaurant. Good dining area and lovely attentive staff, take your drinks order, and main order from a big menu; cook on a stone' if you choose.Food cooked to perfection, desserts and luscious puddings as well.Easy parking and, truly good atmosphere.

First time for an evening meal and decided to take our dine and girlfriend with us and we weren’t disappointed. Steve and the Team are superb hosts and the food is to die for especially the 10oz Fillet steak on a stone at £29 and smoked haddock mornay. We had three courses each and drinks including a bottle of Prosecco at £21 and the total bill was £202 for four. Looking forward to returning already.

Visited this restaurant after just stumbling over a web search for restaurants near Ashby-de-la-Zouch. And what a find it was. Lovely restaurant and really friendly staff. Nothing was to much for them. Will definitely be visiting again in the near future. A* rating.
